16 Small Luxury Hotels Around the World Worth Visiting
"This nine-room refuge might be hidden away deep in Portugal's bucolic Alentejo region, but it's as sleek and stylish as any boutique hotel in a big city. Owners Vitor Borges and Franck Laigneau re-imagined a former olive mill into an artsy retreat with museum-quality decor — from marble pieces in a rainbow of colors (sourced from local quarries) to sculptural furniture from the Jugendstil movement. Everything beckons to not only be studied but also touched. The nine guest rooms were meticulously decorated and each features a unique architectural blueprint, which means one comes with a massive pink-marble bathroom while another has a private plunge pool." - Travel + Leisure Editors
The beauty of this place cannot be described by words. It must be experiences. The attention to details is off the charts. The architecture alone is worth the trip. The garden landscaping is art. Vítor and Franck ( the owners and designers) are delightful. Cannot wait to be back!

Beautifully unique experience. The owners and hosts were wonderful and very hospitable. We were warmly welcomed. We were provided extremely personalized attention, which made the experience very luxury feeling. The design of the entire complex/estate was very well thought out. The furniture pieces and ceramics were so beautiful and unique. It was like staying in an art gallery or in a museum. Two things that we’d suggest to improve the experience: a) clearer signage at entrance for cars to be directed to the reception; and b) easier key access system for the front door and the back door into the pool area.

This hotel was absolutely amazing. From the Staff to the incredible rooms to the Hosts and meals. What a very special experience that made our trip to Portugal even more wonderful. I can't say enough good things about this property. The sky was so big you could touch the starts. One of my favorite places I have ever stayed!

The second we drove up to the property we realized that this was the best decision we made for our trip. The grounds are absolutely stunning and the design of the hotel itself is unparalleled. Every detail is accounted for, and the owners and staff made sure that everything we needed was provided.

Dá Licença is hands-down one of the best hotels I have ever experienced. It is intimate and special in every way. The attention to detail is unparalleled. The staff was friendly and warm. Unusual use of natural materials and architectural features set this property apart. The art collection throughout the property elevates every space. I highly recommend it.

The worst welcome if I could give 0 stars would have been just the hotel was open but he would not let us see the place for a possible future booking .
As we were leaving the guy started yelling at us and threatening and threw a stone at us!!!!
We were with a baby and he did not stop cursing and yelling the guy was shaking with anger for no reason
Very traumatic experience and a luxury place should not Perret such an image of 0 hospitality
I travel all over the world and never was treated with disrespect by any hotel employee
I ask for identification but he refused to give us his name with a strong French accent
Be aware when you book this place stay away
