The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Notting Hill

"“The restaurant they couldn’t close’.” A traditional family-run Italian restaurant on Notting Hill Gate that was threatened by the planned expansion of next door’s Gate cinema — now defeated — it serves exemplary antipasti, and tiramisu that led Jay Rayner to write “it needs to be tried by everyone else attempting to make one.”" - James Hansen

General Election 2019 | Best Restaurants in Kensington | Eater London

"Rated across the generations, this nearly 40-year-old Neapolitan neighbourhood restaurant in Notting Hill Gate narrowly avoided closure two years ago thanks to the efforts of a local petition and some high-profile advocates. It’s somewhere in the middle of the constituency and therefore a handy option at lunch for pizzas, pastas, and other hearty Italian meat and vegetable dishes." - Adam Coghlan

A striking gem in Notting Hill. Very homey ambiance serving authentic Napoleon flavours. What feels more traditional than gingham table cloths and old photos on the walls to go with a huge Minestrone and generously cheese topped pasta? Will definitely come back.

We had lunch today and felt right at home — homemade, genuine flavors, all accompanied by Alfonso’s smile and kindness. A little piece of Naples in a corner of London. Thank you to Giovanni, Cristina, and Alfonso for the wonderful experience — we’ll definitely be back!

Went for lunch at around 12:30 on a Saturday. I was alone. The place was empty and I took a micro table near the door. The atmosphere is good enough with lively Neapolitan songs blasting away and the server and cook singing in the background. I ordered a margarita pizza and a beer. The pizza was a monumental letdown, it was grossly undercooked and not resembling at all the crispy pizza in the pics on Google reviews. Ingredients were below average with passata sauce very bitter, hard mozzarella cheese, very little oil and low quality cured meat. A single old leaf of basil adorned the pitiful and small pizza. The dough was soggy and soft, a far cry from the one you see in the pics of the others. It is also tiny. Anyway. In the meantime another table of two Spanish ladies came in and ordered pasta with some mushroom sauce. They seemed underwhelmed by the food too, the portions again minuscule. The only bright spot is the crafted beer which was superb albeit a bit pricey. I paid 21 quid for it all and it felt like armed robbery. I would not recommend this place at all if you like pizza and like to eat. The location in the end is nothing special and very crowded by the myriad of tourists who flock to Notthing Hill for some obscure reason to me. Despite a large crowd constantly walking and crossing the intersection this place was empty. That tells you all. Nope!

Napoli i Notting Hill Gate. Had a coffee with colleagues here yesterday. Nice selection of cakes. Coffee was beatiful. Staff are amazing. Very close to the tube station. One of the better places to have a coffee when in Notting Hill gate area. Had a glance at the table next to us; food looks amazing too.

Nice family run aesthetic Italian place. The pizza was on the small side for the price and little too salty for my taste but would definitely come again to try the pasta next time.

Google
Warm hospitality & delicious food. A family run business that feels homely, cozy and deeply cherished by its owners. The food tasted like it was made with care, love and meticulous attention to every detail. I'll be back ❤️ and I'll come by every time I want a pizza 🍕

I went with a friend, and we absolutely loved it! The pasta was amazing, and the pizza was just as good—full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was friendly. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Must visit in Notting Hill even worth the travel!! When I stepped in I felt like I was in Rome again. Lovely family run business and good prices too! Paid £13 for the best margarita I’ve ever had plus service which is a steal for this area. Definitely want to come back for the pasta

Yelp
Sometimes the very best things happen by pure luck! We were planning to stop into another restaurant but it turned out to be booked for the night. We had seen Da Maria before and so we decided to eat there instead. It could not have been better! The wood-fired pizzas - margherita and vegetariana - were amazing, and the gnocchi alla sorrentina was to die for! The space is small so it doesn't accommodate a lot of people; there are tables outside as well. The owner greeted us warmly and spoke with us at length, and all the servers were very cheerful and helpful. My only regret is that I don't live in the UK so I can't come here every week!

Yelp
An American in London, craving pizza is.... well, confusing. And since I refuse to deny my cravings, my husband and I popped into Da Maria during our visit to Notting Hill today. We chose this restaurant frankly because there was a table by the window available and because I was hangry. What I didn't expect was to be served the best pizza I have ever had! I'm from New Jersey where there is no shortage of authentic pizza. The owner/staff spoke limited English, but were perfectly friendly. My husband and I both ordered pizza, the Diavolo and the Margherita. I was surprised by how quickly the pizzas came out. And holy smokes, they were INCREDIBLE! The sauce on both pizzas was delicious. The Diavolo had crushed red pepper in the sauce that gave it an amazing little kick. I guess I was just surprised. I was expecting good pizza, but I was not prepared to have the best pizza of my life. I cannot stress enough that if you love pizza, and are okay without the bells and whistles of a basic tourist trap, EAT here!!! I am so disappointed that I will likely never be able to eat here again. Absolutely amazing!!

Yelp
We came for dinner and a got a free table for 4. The place is very small so we had to squeeze between other tables like Sardines. The Pizza were very standard, really nothing special. So overall there are really better places.

Yelp
This cafe' restaurant is tucked away in a corner of Notting Hill next to the famous Gate cinema. It has established from 28 years by Maria and Mario. Over the years it has boasted faithful clientelles. You will be in for a treat like a child in a sweetshop pouring over the choices on offer at an affordable price. Lasagne, Spezzatine, Tiramisu and other dishes are freshly cooked in a traditional Italian way with favour and gusto by Maria and served in a friendly atmosphere by charming Pasquale and staff.

Yelp
A little authentic Italian corner in London. I am an Italian living here in London and 'da Maria' I have tasted original Italian cuisine. Food is very good, price is cheap, place is small but comfortable. Do not miss : Lasagne and Polpette al sugo!

Yelp
Feet aching after a guided walk around Notting Hill just looking for somewhere to sit down and have some lunch. Almost fell into this little place when we couldn't get to Notting Hill Gate tube station due to the press of unwashed humanity coming the other way. What a little treasure of an Italian cafe - only 16 covers inside and a couple more on the pavement, but the food is excellent and I'm sure is home made. Recommened are meatballs with either pasta or rosemary (roast) potatoes, lemon cake and Italian cheese cake, which is quite different to the supermarket sort you might be used to. Recommended.
