"Da Mario is a proper old-school Italian joint in an impressive Venetian-Gothic building with charmingly rubbish decor. There are pictures of Princess Diana on the wall, and the food is home-style Italian, with big portions of pasta and great pizzas at semi-reasonable prices. It’s worth the short walk to avoid the chain-bait restaurants around Gloucester Road station." - rianne shlebak, jake missing, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"Da Mario is a spot. It’s got photos of Princess Diana on the walls and a don’t-give-a-cavolo attitude about using cream in their rigatoni. This Kensington restaurant is on the corner of Gloucester Road, in a building that loudly mixes Venetian and Gothic styles with a homely classic Italian interior. This is a loud, messy group dinner kind of spot, for people who aren't going to critique their pasta. Yes, it’s a bit lawless. But it’s perfectly satisfying, well-priced, and the chaos is all part of the charm." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
"Speaking from experience, the bigger the group we bring to this loud and proud Italian spot in Kensington, the better. Come to Da Mario with four people and you’ll be in a comfy booth upstairs. Come with 12 and it’s a party in their basement dining room. The menu has satisfying big-plate pastas and marinara-heavy pizzas. There’s always at least one birthday being celebrated at any given time, and there’s always someone louder than the Facebook video your dad insists on playing on full volume." - rianne shlebak
"This Italian spot on Gloucester Road has a homely interior, a spacious downstairs room, and a menu full of big portions of pastas and some pretty great pizza. Basically, Da Mario is a restaurant that will satisfy most. It's a loud and messy group dinner kind of spot, or lunch with a couple of friends who aren’t going to critique the fact that there’s cream with the rigatoni. While it’s not the best Italian food you’ll eat in London, it’s perfectly satisfying and the chaos is all part of the charm." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"There’s no mistaking that you’re in west London when you eat at Da Mario. This spot sits at the end of a row of expensive white mansion houses, in a very cool Venetian-Gothic decorated building. The interior is less grandiose and a lot more chintzy than you might expect from the street - there’s even a bunch of Princess Diana memorabilia that the distant American relative you’ve probably been babysitting all day will love. The simple Italian menu has a big selection of pizzas and pastas, and while they may not be the best in west London, the whole experience of eating here is so homey and comforting that you’re bound to leave with a much fonder feeling about the neighbourhood as a whole." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, eileen twum
