Da Nang is a food truck permanently (?) located outside of the Deschutes Bend Tasting Room & Beer Garden. To order, you pick your protein (chicken, steak, or tofu) and pick your boat (rice, noodles, baguette, or salad). Current prices are $14 for chicken or tofu and $16 for steak.
I tried the chicken baguette option (a self described banh mi) which came with cucumbers, pickled carrots and daikon, and garlic aioli sauce. In my experience, a banh mi is commonly made with pork and pate. Obviously, Da Nang can serve whatever food they want; I'm not making a claim about authenticity. But, I think their sandwich would have been better with these ingredients.
The sandwich was good but not great. The baguette was very good -- crusty on the outside but soft on the inside. The flavors were good, but relied heavily on the garlic aioli to pull it together. The chicken was a little dry without the aioli. When I got all the ingredients together in one bite, it was pretty good, but the sandwich size/shape made this difficult. IMO It tasted more like a "chicken and pickled vegetables" sandwich than a banh mi.
Service was friendly. It took about 10 minutes to get the sandwich and they gave me a buzzer to tell me when it was ready.
