One of the best Italian trattoria (like Italian homecooked food) in Singapore. My favourite is the spaghetti al nero di seppia (squid ink pasta), my son love the spaghetti alla carbonara (pasta carbonara in egg cream sauce and bacon), my daughter love the spaghetti aglio olio e funghi (pasta with sautéed mushroom and garlic) while my wife favourite is the spaghetti alle vongole (pasta with fresh clam in white wine). If you have a craving for Italian food, this is the place to go !!! Bon Apetito !!!

Yelp
Usual order of my Al Granchio didn't disappoint. It was however the service behind this 2 stars rating. I could redeem a 1-1 offer with my check in through Yelp but the manager easily dismissed it away saying it's an old offer. That would have been fine, save his rude and sarcastic service for the rest of the night. I would just skip this branch and head to Holland v for my Al Granchio craving next time round. P.s it was not even crowded at all.

Yelp
Highly overrated... Or maybe they don't do fine dinging well? since most of their outlets are casual takeouts (pizza, pasta, gourmet desserts...) 1. Rissotto with beef - This was ok. My friend ordered it and liked it. - I am not a big fan on Rissotto so I might be impartial towards it but the beef was pretty good. - The presentation was sorely lacking though. It looks like canteen food (for a fine dining place). 2. Fish soup - My friend ordered a fish dish that came served in a soup. Basically, it was pan fried then served in a clear broth with some vegetables inside it. Kinda reminds me of yu mian (fish noodles dish served common at the hawker centre for like $5 per bowl. except this was $40). - It wasn't very tasty as well. the crispiness of the pan-fried meat was gone, it was just soggy in the soup. - Totally not worth the money. 3. Pan fried fish - This was ok. I ordered it. However it tasted kinda blend and boring although the fish was fresh and not overcooked. - The vegetable that came along were steamed (no sauce. boring) - The potatoes were nice though, small (the size of of two thumbs) and slightly sweet. - Overall, the dish looked like a diet meal or something. Super blend although healthy and fresh ingredients were used. 4. Zucchini and cheese appetizer - Ok. The cheese didn't really go well with zucchini though (wrong paring of cheese). Service - Super slow (10-30 minutes) and they got my fish order wrong too. They gave us 2 fish soup dish initially and when we pointed it out the waiter tried to coax me into taking the dish (even though it was his mistake) by warning me that exchanging it will incur additional preparation time. He wasn't even apologetic that he got our order wrong. Maybe I would have taken the fish soup dish except if it wasn't so unappealing. Thankfully, the pan fried dish came out faster than it took the rest. Ambiance - Good but it hardly makes up for the below average food.

Yelp
I am a fan of Da Paolo's "Gastronomia" at Paragon which is a take-away in the basement with pizzas, pastas and salads. Da Paolo at Club Street is (I'm assuming) the sit-down version of this, and sells standard Italian fare. We went on a Thursday evening at around 8pm and it was pretty quiet. We were served complimentary starters of olive-bread with olive oil and chilli dip which to be honest tasted pretty stale. I ordered the Lamb Ragout which was standard and not very exciting. The pasta was somewhat lukewarm, the sauce was mediocre and drowned the flavour of the lamb and it just felt a little pricey for $27+++. My friends ordered the Lobster / Asparagus pasta and Truffle Porcini mushroom pasta dishes, both of which looked amazing and apparently tasted really good. As the smell of the truffle floated over I wish I had chosen that instead. This actually made me head back the next night to try the truffle porcini pasta (my friend went back to eat the Lobster / Asparagus dish... cos it was apparently that good). I wasn't disappointed! It was much better than my initial Lamb Ragout option - the cream sauce wasn't too heavy and the truffle not too overpowering. However, at a total of $120 for two on the second night, dinner here is pretty pricey for a random night out. Good option for a date though.

Yelp
Went to Da Paolo to celebrate my friend's birthday. Situated near Chip Bee Gardens, it took quite awhile to find the place. But other than that, the food was just fantastic. Tried the risotto with lobster and spinach on a friend's recommendation and I'm glad a did. Although a little pricey at more than $30, it was worth every cent. The portion may seem small at first glance but is actually more than enough for such an intense flavour. The risotto was prepared to perfection with sizeable chunks of lobster and soft spinach mixed in. The sauce was heavenly, featuring a rich and creamy cheese flavour that went perfectly with the lobster and spinach. That being said, it wasn't overdone like some cheesy dishes whereby you get sick of the taste after awhile. I found myself scrapping the plate clean of every grain of rice. If you're a cheese-lover like me, this is definitely a must-try. The decor of the restaurant was also pleasant, offering both alfresco and indoor seating. Use of yellow lighting created a soft glow which complemented the wooden furnishings. The restaurant is definitely a versatile place that can be for a date night out or a cozy place to catch up with friends. My only complaint would be the service staff. Although they dutifully completed what were expected of them like promptly taking orders and refilling our glasses, they were indifferent and somewhat arrogant. Regardless, this is not something that will deter me from returning to the restaurant. The risotto alone is a good enough reason to visit it again.

Yelp
The new Da Paolo HQ is in a prime location right on Club Street. I went there with my girlfriend for dinner and overall the experience was OK. The one really good thing about this place was the service; very attentive. The food was decent enough... we had an appetizer, a pasta entree and and a pizza, then dessert. The pizza crust could've been crispier in my opinion though, not really a fan of a soggy crust where the toppings fall off and you have to eat with a fork and knife. We had a few drinks as well and those were fine. The problem came with the bill. Unfortunately I didn't notice it at the time, but later when we got home I noticed that there was an additional $38 charge for sangria that we didn't order. Wasn't really too happy about that but I was leaving the next day for a trip so I didn't take the time to go back. Overall the experience was fine, but the additional charge left a bit of a sour taste so I probably wouldn't go back. If you do decide to go just make sure you double check the bill before you pay.
