The food is not everything: the cuisine is great but the poor service is far from what such a place should have. You don't feel good. To make the Daalder experience worthwhile I would suggest: the wine shouldn't have been served 45 min after we have arrived, after the 2nd course; the 15 min to 20 min wait between courses is too long. We took 3h15 min for the shorter menu experience - it is clearly too long and tiresome; the employees forgot the last dessert and I had to ask twice for lemon for the water. The ambiance is okay. A huge improvement would be noise management. The place is too noisy - many solutions exist to reduce sound reflection. The paintings in the wall are a bit outdated as well. Overall, such good food deserves better entourage

This place has a great atmosphere and view of the water. It’s lovely to catch up with friends, but that is about it. The service was bad, food came without utensils, we had to ask for them plenty of times. Food came late, we had to ask for the sangria as i think they forgot to bring it. Had to ask for the bill 2 times, also everything was very slow. The food was bad overall too. The lamb fries had quite a nice flavour but they were soggy and floating in a pool of greasy liquid at the bottom of the plate, unsure what that even was. The bao bun was tiny, but the stroopwaffle dessert was extremely tiny and 5€ and not what we expected at all. The blueberry pancakes tasted like pancakes made from boxed batter, and the portion came with 2 small pieces for around 10€. We took everything to share but were still hungry after. This would have been ok as i know that the menu is street food inspired, however the prices seem too high for what you get.

I didn’t know Daalder had a street food kitchen. I stopped by here for a quick cup of tea, and a vegetarian Caesar salad. Nothing really stood out to me in any way, service was ok, food was ok, and the ambiance was ok. Not sure if it’s worth going back.

The service of the waiters is lousy, they forget the orders, they don't put cutlery and the attitude leaves much to be desired... unfortunately if the service of the staff is bad, finally you find everything bad... The food was quite good and the beer was cold.

Google
I had high hopes for this place as the setting is lovely, and the food that we had was good, but the service was absolutely atrocious, our glasses were empty 90% of the time we were there, nobody asked if we wanted refills, they brought the wrong food which was quickly swapped to the right dish, but we wanted the gnocchi, and must have asked for it 5 times over 3 hours, and they never brought it, I also asked for the bill 3 times and they never brought it, so annoying, I asked to speak to the manager and he offered to make us some free food but we were over it, he then offered to take my number and promised to message me for a free bottle of wine for our next visit, that was two weeks ago and I’ve heard nothing, terrible service. Won’t go again, there are much better places to go in the area. Had to go to McDonald’s after as we were still hungry.

Absolutely fantastic and our waitress was wonderful. I highly recommend anyone to go there :)

Sometimes you read reviews and you think 'well, it can’t be that bad…'. But no: there’s really something wrong at Daalder Streetfood. The division of 'tables' among staff was adjusted three times during our 2 hour visit, as if it is so difficult to control a half-full terrace. The service is poor. Waitress completely ignored dietary restrictions, even when they are presumably and repeatedly indicated. Result: food waste and the right dish far, far after the group had consumed their food. They also completely forgot about a side dish. This was ordered from what seem to be the floor manager, who was too shy (?) to apologise himself. Interestingly that also applies to the first incident, very odd. I’m sure that next door (the Michelin rest.) they can explain how to handle such unfortunate mistakes accordingly. I am also very surprised to see so much feedback here without any response from Daalder Steetfood itself. You would expect the team to be grateful for valuable guest feedback and them to be eager to work on improvement. Get yourself together, Daalder Streetfood :-)

Yelp
This restaurant is set on the canal in a beautiful spot. They have a great outdoor space for drinks. The service here was great. I went with the favorites menu and each dish was beautifully plated. The space itself is quite large with lots of tables spaced apart so it wasn't crowded. I'm not sure I liked the different colored lights - seemed a little tacky lol but the space was nice. The flavors were for the most part very good but none of the dishes were outstanding imo. The oyster was delicious and very creamy. The butter was excellent. The desserts were a bit lacking.

Yelp
TL;DR: Come here for the food, but only if you have 4+ hours to kill. Hot tip: book a later reservation if you don't want to be digesting faster than the dishes come out. I booked a 630pm reservation and was promptly seated. The first few courses of the tasting menu were served fairly quickly, but eventually it became clear that the kitchen staff began focusing on the dishes of the 730-8pm guests so that eventually everyone's dishes were coming out at the same time, regardless of when you started the meal. As a result, the first 3-4 dishes came out in 30 minutes, and then it took 30 minutes for the next 2, then an hour for the next 2, etc. When all was said and done, it was almost 11pm and I had to hastily get the check and run out, almost missing my flight. Food-wise, most of the dishes were quite delicious, with subtle and unique blends of intriguing flavors. The only dish I would say I didn't particularly like was the "sweetbread" dish, which had a slightly gamier texture/taste. Highlights: -Beetroot w/ caviar: crispy beetroot was a nice complement to the savory and soft caviar -Lobster: in a very tasty leek/dashi foam sauce -A5 WAGYU (!): this was by far the best part of the menu and probably worth the entire price difference between the standard and deluxe menu Skip: -Sweetbread -Tables near the counter/kitchen (it gets quite hot the closer you are to the cooking, which is done in front) Overall: Food: 8.5/10 Everything else (service/ambience): 5/10 (ambience was unique, waitstaff was nice, just the pacing was hair-pullingly slow)

Yelp
Save your money and go somewhere that's truly a fine dining experience. While a few dishes were delicious, the service was consistently mediocre to bad throughout the meal. They try to upsell you at the beginning and end of the meal when the prix fixe options are already 125-225 EUR plus per person, not including drinks. Food shows up at varying speeds and water and drinks are not refilled. Has potential but an overall big miss. Mostly tourists which should have been a big giveaway.

Yelp
Daalder restaurant excels at accessible fine dining. Located in the charming Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, the space feels welcoming with understated elegance. A marble top bar is the focal point of the small dining room, a throwback to the prior iteration of the space. A diner could easily walk in for lunch and enjoy the tasting menu at the bar. Chef Dennis Huwaë executes his vision of a relaxed, yet elevated experience with a flexible modern tasting menu. The layered flavors and presentation reflect his strong background cooking in many two Michelin starred kitchens. Daadler offers the five or seven-course menu at lunch, or the option of a shorter menu. I went with five courses, and they let me substitute the langoustine supplement with a small surcharge. A glass of dry Cremant d'Alsace, with soft bubbles went well with the seafood focused meal. I appreciated the presentation of the amuse bouches, which were in line with the quietly refined ethos of the restaurant. A salmon meringue bite was a play on nigiri. The Daadler fish and chips looked nothing like the traditional English dish but rather a tangy bite of salted cod salad on an airy potato cracker. My favorite was a spoon that held a delicately crisp blackberry cracker, filled with tuna, radish, and creme fraiche. A flavor burst that tasted almost Thai to me. The first course was a chilled Spanish aji blanco soup topped with cobia, cold tofu sorbet, and contrasted with crunchy green apple and cucumber. I enjoyed the refreshing dish which was both bright with hints of dark umami, though the fish had some stringy parts. Next was a creamy and runny egg, green asparagus, and morel dish that was satisfying to mix together. The morels were over seasoned, but the fresh asparagus worked to offset the sodium. The croutons were too hard for my taste. Following this was turbot with razor clams in a tangy mustard sauce, with tarragon and a pop of lemon gel. This dish was perfectly balanced. The five-course menu came with one dessert. I was pretty satisfied, though I regret not asking for their take on the classic stroopwafel as an add-on! The white corn dessert was beautiful. Shaped like an actual ear of corn, the coconut ice cream was very subtle in flavor and just a little icy. I wanted stronger popcorn flavor as well, but I did like the bergamot gel accents. Overall I enjoyed the leisurely-paced lunch at Daadler, with five courses spread out over two hours. Small missteps like hard butter and stringy fish were easily forgotten with the wonderful flavors, textures, and presentation. Service was very good as well.

Yelp
5 stars for the food; 2.5 stars for the service. The pacing of the plates were pretty uneven - everything started out at an even pace and once it came to the mains, it almost seemed like the server(s) forgot about us. They definitely forgot about our dessert (last course) such that we had to ask for it (a first in this type of dining experience). The waitress had to ask us if we got our dessert yet (wtf) and then proceeded to bring our final plates to another table. The waitress was apathetic about her mistake. The "wine guy " was extraordinarily rude (one of his standout responses: "I *really hate* when people say 'dry wine' ... that's not specific enough"). When you have a wine book of at least 20 pages of regional varietals that you've hypothetically curated and you know the flavor profile of the food that night - your job is to recommend something based off of the diner's preferences (not "oaky and dry" gives you a large playing field to present options). Literally the worst response / treatment I've had from a fine dining establishment. If you want wine, do the pairing and don't ask him to recommend anything on the spot unless you want an unnecessarily bad attitude with your wine. Truly it was the food that saved the night - the "Waldorf Salad" and monkfish were standouts. The cocktails were also fantastic with the standout being Lady Luck. I came to Daalder for the first time in 2019 (different location) and was blown away by the entire experience. Unfortunately the second experience last night did not live up to the first experience. There's no doubt the food is amazing and unique - Michelin Star well deserved. The service and "wine guy's" poor attitude left a bad aftertaste at the end of the meal. I will not be coming back.

Yelp
Almost four years since our last visit and if anything Daalder is better than ever. It was a beautiful warm evening and our outdoor seats were perfect. We opted for the five course tasting menu with wines, it turned out to be the perfect amount of food. And the food, it was exquisite, every course better than the previous. Rather than go through each dish, I will post some photos that show in great detail the quality, refinement of the food and presentation. Service is friendly, helpful with each dish described in full detail. The wines that came with each course matched the food perfectly. If you want a first class dining experience (tasting menu), I can highly recommend Daalder. While not inexpensive Daalder is actually a great value given the quality of food, wine, service and presentation. Don't miss dining here next time you are in Amsterdam!

Yelp
Probably the best meal that I had in Amsterdam. Had the 7 course meal with half glass wine pairing. The evening started with essentially 5 different amuse bouches. Highlights of the evening were the seafood courses. The lobster and fish were well prepared and nicely seasoned. I would have preferred less foam on the dishes, but that is my own preferences. The lamb and tenderloin were well cooked, but didn't necessarily have the wow factor. The white corn dessert was one of my favorite desserts that I've had. The corn was actually yogurt and was very refreshing. I actually preferred that dessert over his signature Stroopwafel one. The wine pairing was excellent and each one was quite unique and paired well with the dish. They are also very generous with the pours. One criticism that I have is that service can be on the slower side, but that tends to be the case everywhere in Amsterdam. Our meal took almost 3.5 hours despite being one of the first to be served in the restaurant. Coming from the Bay Area, the prices were fantastic!

Yelp
Double Michelin stars so well deserved. Absolutely incredible dining experience. The 7 course wine pairing was seriously one of the top (and booziest) meals of my life. The service was impeccable and so thoughtful. Also the restaurant itself is very low-key and understated, allowing all of one's attention to be placed on the food itself. The 7 courses included amuse, cobia, langoustine, cod, sweetbread, tenderloin, cheese, corn, and stroopwafel for dessert. I think the creative amuse were the best - 3 to 4 tiny delicacies that set the flavour profile for the meal. I'd recommend booking in advance, especially during the peak Amsterdam tourist season. Also buckle up for a long night - our dinner lasted about 5 hours so I wouldn't plan anything too extensive other than dinner. You'll certainly be full afterwards. No children recommended, keep parties small.

Yelp
What a wonderful surprise Daalder was! We showed up without reservations (having no idea this was such a fancy place - not sure why it's categorized as a "diner" on yelp - they have white tablecloths) and they were able to seat us at the bar, which was lovely and perfect for two people. It is a prix fix here - starting with 4 courses for around 50 EUR and going up to 7 courses for around 80 EUR. No menus - they ask you if there's anything that you don't eat and go from there. There's also a wine pairing, but we opted just to have a glass each instead. They have limited wines by the glass on the menu, but let me select a glass from the open bottles that were being used for the pairing. My expectations were low, as Amsterdam just isn't generally known for it's food scene and i had just come from Copenhagen which is known for it's food scene, and we had just randomly selected it off of yelp before walking over. Well, I was completely blown away by how good everything was and tempted to change my opinion of the Amsterdam food scene.. but perhaps I just got lucky because my friend who lives in Amsterdam was also shocked how good it was. Four courses was more than enough, as they also give you an amuse bouche and bread with butter / olive oil. Everything we had from the amuse bouche all the way to the dessert was not just interesting, but also extremely flavorful and delicious. The perfect combination and what makes a restaurant really stand out in my mind. Every bite was truly a treat. Our four courses consisted of ahi tuna, gnocchi, duck, and ice cream. They rattled off so many ingredients for each course that I couldn't even pretend to remember what they all were, but I can tell you that each dish was very complex and the combination of ingredients just worked in the best possible way. I can't imagine being able to eat more than four courses as it was a considerable amount of food, but at the same time I'd love to be able to taste seven courses as each course was amazing.

Yelp
You MUST come here if you are ever in Amsterdam. By far the best meal I had in the Netherlands! The 7 course meal was worth every Euro. Every course delicious, creative, and so well presented. We sat at the bar and enjoyed conversation with all the staff. The drinks were surprisingly reasonably priced. We left satiated and very happy with our meal and overall experience. If you are a foodie, you will love Daalder.

Yelp
We were looking for a nice meal at the end of our trip. If you can splurge, food was great and they worked with us on our schedule since we didn't realize we didn't schedule enough time. Wine selection and cocktails were excellent, food was great and service as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
While we have enjoyed a number of Michelin 1,2 & 3 star restaurants, Chef Denis Huwaë and his staff at Daalder really impress, with friendly, relaxed service, and food that is the very definition of culinary creativeness, with precise and complex flavor combinations, and presentations that surprised and delighted our eyes and tongues. If living in or near Amsterdam, indulge yourself with this very personalized experience. If visiting from abroad, make this a "must do" and it will be the highlight of your trip.

Yelp
Loved the food and the asian influences in the flavor. Beautiful presentation. As an American, I found the service to be slow, but realized that this is a common thing in Amsterdam, as everything does not always have to be a rush. Overall, we had a great meal and I recommend this restaurant to those who are foodies and want something good while visiting Amsterdam.

Yelp
Review summary: Somewhat pricey but does deliver a lovely culinary experience with modern European style flavors. Overall 4/5 due to a couple of dishes that missed the mark (see below) but don't regret going at all! Went with my wife we decided to do the five course tasting as we had just landed in Amsterdam earlier that day The meal started with a selection of amuse many pictures on yelp already of their signature Meranger sashimi which did had a very interesting Weston to standard Japanese cuisine very unexpected but not unpleasant. The cougere had a fantastic stuffing inside but sadly was cold which made it not so successful. There was an additional amuse which was a play in curries salted bonito but presented with creme fraiche and curry ice cream- absolutely phenomenal very well executed dish! First course of the night was a tuna tartare mixed with kimchi and red beets cabbage very well executed and very tasty once again Asian spice overtones excel with the cuisine. 4/5 Second course was a very traditional scallop dish prepared in a French style with beure blanc and cauliflower. The scallop was perfectly executed (although only seared on one side). 3/5 The third Course was a so lasagna build using celery root thin slices that had been blanched and a vegetable base lasagna with some Parm foam although the dish worked well, the focus was slightly too much on the technique and as such the flavor profile seem to lack salt. 3/5 The last dish was by far the best evening with every component having a raison d'etre! It was a thin sliced wagyu beef served with crispy seared onion liver mouse and potato purée - but the star of the dish was the amazing pan sauce!!! 5/5! The restaurant was rated by Michelin guide 2015 and 2017

Yelp
I came to Daalder as my choice for fine dining in Amsterdam and it was quite the experience. My group decided to go with the 7-course chef's tasting menu. We had made reservations ahead of time and wondered if they could accommodate us earlier in the day and they happily obliged. Service was exceptional from beginning to end and I liked that we truly got the chef's take on each and every dish. Pair that up with having a great open window seat on a beautiful day and it was set up to be a great meal. Getting to the food, although we went with the 7-course meal, they actually included some extra dishes so it was more like a 9-course meal! All of the dishes felt very unique and experimental and that made the tasting menu a lot of fun. So, you may be wondering why only 4 stars with all the positivity in this review? Although we got extra dishes, I did not find every dish enjoyable. Some very great, and some I remember not liking at the time and don't even remember anymore. The general trend I remember is that I really enjoyed the 2 extra dishes they gave us at the beginning of the meal including the sushi. The meal kind of started at a peak to me and it was a slow decline from there. If I went back to Daalder I would therefore go with the 4-course menu to save money especially since that includes all the best dishes in my opinion.

Yelp
Beautiful and transformative meal! I loved everything about it. The food was incredible, and the service was top notch. I'm not much of a seafood person, but the crab and sea bass dishes made me rethink a lot of my life choices to this point. They brought me to the seaside in an instant. The wine pairings worked like no pairings I've ever had-the wines didn't "go with" the dishes as much as the dish and wine changed each other and made both different and better. The one issue I would mention is communication within the reservation system - I sent 2 emails with special requests (asking if they could handle gluten-free restrictions and if we could finish quickly to make an appointment), and I didn't get an answer. The information did get to the staff and they did an excellent job with gluten-free options, but it would have been nice to be sure of that ahead of time. We also asked to be done with 3 courses in an hour to an hour and 15 minutes, and we did not get dessert until 1 hour and 30 minutes into the meal. We ended up missing an appointment afterwards. These issues aside, the food and service during the meal was fantastic. This meal was my absolute favorite part of my visit to Amsterdam.

Marie M.

Yelp
Second trip to Daalder, and it's just as great as it was five years ago. The staff is incredible--attentive, funny, knowledgeable, and sweet. I was hoping to get a spot outside, and they hooked me up at the bar with a drink while waiting for a table to empty (which didn't take very long, just as they estimated). The food was fantastic--their new Michelin star is well deserved, and the dessert they served as part of the four-course lunch reflected the honor in a creative (and delicious) way. I'll continue to send people to Daalder when they visit Amsterdam, and I am already planning a third return myself.

Yelp
Delicious meal here last month! We arrived late so were told there would only be time for the 4 course menu. After our first course we were cursing our delay because we really did not want the food to end. The amuse bouche was really unique and started us out nicely. The tuna tartar was light and fresh and we all enjoyed it. Next up was the gnocchi and it was the tastiest gnocchi of my life to date. Perfect. The main event was a lovely duck breast with a jus and it had wonderful texture and flavours. To finish was a rhubarb and meringue dessert, which was a nice balance between sweet and sour. Our entire meal was excellent. Will return!

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. We loved every single course and the wine pairing was superb. We had a very pleasant experience. Our favourite dish was the crab dish

Yelp
This was hands down the best food we had on our recent trip to Europe and we are at a fantastic 2 Michelin star restaurant in Valencia Spain a few days before. The food was creative, but more importantly it was delicious. The ambiance is casual with classic rock and R&B playing lightly overhead. The chefs counter is the place to sit because the chefs are rad. Definitely go. Definitely get the 7 course. I got the 5 course but it was so good I should have gotten more.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I've ever been to- hands down. Fresh, innovative, and completely delicious, I am so glad to have found this gem while in Amsterdam. There is a menu that changes daily based off what is in season, and the chef chooses your meal for you based on how many courses you elect to have. Although this could be a turn off for some, if you keep an open mind and trust, I know you can expect a truly amazing meal. I recommend to anyone in Amsterdam!
google avatar

Terry D.

Yelp
Dayna B.'s review is spot on. I'd find myself just repeating her review. Identical experience. The amazing thing is there are several restaurants of this genre in Amsterdam and all of them are exceptional with reasonable pricing. (Johannes, Adam, de Silveren Spiegel). Each with their own unique ambiance and vibe. I agree with Dayna, the flank steak was amazing. This cut is so often overcooked, stringy and tough. They've mastered the art of preparing it to perfection.

Yelp
One of the best lunches I've ever eaten! Extremely tasty food. We chose a 3 course meal They offered us an amuse bouche with tomato sorbet and pesto, it was delicious! 1st course was scallops on a cauliflower cream. Very well cooked and fresh! 2nd course was a slow cooked veal. Very tender meat! 3rd was dessert. Yogurt ice cream with lemon cream and pomegranate seeds. Very light and fresh, The waitresses were very kind and one even them even helped us find a store we were looking for and wrote down the name for us. Great experience with a reasonable price!

Yelp
We feel we were really lucky to have eaten here. Because in a few years this place will be impossible to get a reservation. Not cheap to eat here. In fact, it is a bit pricey compared to local restaurants. But well worth the price. We had the Daalder menu. A chef tasting menu that includes 7 courses and wine pairing. 150 Euros per person. It really doesn't matter what we ate because the menus change often. But the presentation, the sensory awakenings, and the inability to keep the eyes open with the first bite of each course is what lingers in our minds. Simply stated, this place could be amongst the finest dinner experience in any major city in the world. And for the price, a real bargain... Try it. Enjoy it. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
An incredibly memorable meal and a perfect way to spend the last afternoon of my trip. When you enter, it has a casual bar bistro feel to it, and not the atmosphere of a traditional fine dining restaurant. This was a pro, in my opinion, as we were both made perfectly comfortable and welcome in our jeans. As other reviewers mention, there is no 'a la carte' menu. It's a chef's choice surprise menu, and you simply choose how many courses you would like (between 2 to 4). If you're picky about what you eat, this might not be the place for you. However, with a little open-mindedness and trust, you could be blown away. We both enjoyed every course and LOVED the surprise element. There were clearly a lot of culinary influences in their cooking style (Dutch, French, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, just to name a few that I could pick out), but the flavours of each dish and the transition between courses flowed preternaturally. Particularly outstanding was the silky sablefish with edamame in a dashi broth, but everything was excellent and the plating so beautiful it elicited an unintentional moment of silence as each plate was placed before us. The wine list isn't a giant bible, but well-appointed and the staff were knowledgeable enough to help with suggestions (being a surprise menu, it was difficult to decide which wine went best). I definitely recommend Daalder!

Yelp
Daalder is an insider tip. Who would guess it's a classy restaurant when the name of a place contains "Café"? Really cool! Regular guests are welcomed personally by the young chefs. This is one of the places with 3 to 7 course option and a biweekly changing seasonal menu. They also have a regular menu but of course it's more exciting to try the dishes that are only available for a short time. To start we got bread with olive oil, but also fantastic smoked salted almonds and a delicious spicy version of hummus together with grissini. Unfortunately the waiting time between the courses was relatively long, certainly longer than I'm normally used to in places like this. But it's worth it. With every dish you get the awaited reward, an unusual combination of fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared and assembled. The Black Angus they served was probably the best I ever had, pure pleasure. Looking forward to the next time!

Yelp
Negative Experience at Daalder. Waited for management to contact me before posting this and did not get a response. I am offering the 3 stars because the food is beautiful. The service was also kind and attentive until WE WERE ASKED IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR MEAL TO GIVE UP OUR TABLE AND BE RESEATED AT THE BAR. This was a birthday dinner and I did not want to cause any sort of scene so we quietly got up and were escorted to a now over crowded bar and squeezed in at the very end of the bar by the entrance door. I sadly assumed that if Daalder asked patrons to give up their table and be reseated IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MEAL that 1. you would at least be made comfortable 2. perhaps offer a glass of wine 3. An explanation about why this happened. Daalder offered nothing and said nothing and did nothing. When the cheque arrived, I said to the server at the bar, "this was not nice , this was a birthday celebration and you didn't even apologize" The server took back the cheque from us and disappeared returning 5 minutes later with 20 euros off the meal and then and only then apologized. Wow. We left the restaurant feeling terrible about our experience at Daalders. To leave a restaurant and be told " I am sorry, I am really sorry about this over and over again as you are putting on your coats to leave" rather than " Please come again, thank you, we hope you enjoyed the meal. The birthday celebration was ruined. I feel awful for my guest. I am embarrassed that I didn't just say " No, I wont move from our table, are you kidding, we are eating, what is this?" To add to the insult, I believe that because we are primarily English speakers that there was perhaps an assumption that we were just tourists. No. We live in the neighbourhood and try to support all the local businesses. I would like to hear that you have corrected your procedure at your restaurant when you have late bookings arrive or whatever went on that night that would make you believe that asking patrons to give up their table is good serving etiquette.

Yelp
This is one of the best meals we had in Amsterdam. For the quality of what you get the price is quite decent. We went here with friends on a recommendation and would definitely go again. Unfortunately I can't pick out one standout dish, as my memory has faded, but all I know is that it was all really good. Most times I'm quite picky, but I can honestly say there was nothing to complain about here. It's quite a little gem.

Yelp
Simply outstanding. Make reservations and come hungry and ready to have a party in your mouth. I am glad I visited before I became a vegetarian... may have to cheat when I go back. I sat at the bar and loved the attention and service received.

Yelp
Holy cow. Definitely in my top 5 meals. And that's saying a lot, as I live in New York and eat out often. Come hungry, as the 7 course dinner is a LOT of food. Just don't come in a hurry-- the full experience took 3+ hours! At a certain point my husband I ran out of things to talk about! Still worth it though.

Yelp
Lovely. We had the 4-course (options for 4-7), which was more generously like a 6-course by the end. A real pleasure, from tomato sorbet amuse bouches, to the uber tender lamb neck, to the generously supplied double dessert (maybe because we were last in for the evening?). Nice layered textures, exciting flavors! Lots of foams if you're into that. :) Only small complaint was that in one dish the morels were a bit gritty. Don't skip coffee at the end of the meal, it comes with a little treasure box of unique chocolates and cookies. Their menu only changes every few weeks, or we'd have come back the next day!

Yelp
For every tourist reading this I highly recommend getting out of central Amsterdam and visiting Jordaan and the Daadler restaurant. Choose from 4, 5, 6 or 7 courses chosen by the chef (that's right, there are no menus) and I guarantee food lovers won't be disappointed. We had a mix of fish, lamb and asparagus dishes and each was spectacular both in taste and appearance. Our 4-couse was finished off by an incredibly delicate bread and butter pudding dish that blew our mind. Only downside was the wine list was a little over priced, however we are from Australia so are spoilt for quality wines at much lower prices, so this may influence my opinion on this.

Yelp
A definite stop if you are in Amsterdam. The entire team is gracious, welcoming and very very talented. If you only get one dinner, this should be it.

Yelp
Daalder really impresses! It is a winning combination of friendly and attentive service, food that inspires and makes you lick your chops like a satisfied cat! We enjoyed well prepared Gin and Tonics and the three course meal selection. The cuisine was complex, delicious and the presentation kept us acting like dumb millennials taking photos of our dishes, but can we be blamed? It was top notch! Highly recommend Daalder next time you visit Amsterdam.

Yelp
A simple and casual environment where the food is the star. I love a delicious meal and I want to be comfortable while eating it. Daalder hit the mark. We had the special holiday 6 course menu with the additions of Wagu beef, caviar and imperial caviar. The food was big on flavor and creativity. And the staff was lovely. I would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
We booked reservation due to previous reviews, and this place certainly did not disappoint. Every dish is perfectly balance in both taste and texture, with some most unusual combination of ingredients yet perfectly works! The price is less than half of any Michele restaurant in NYC, yet in my humble opinion the food is more impressive than most of them! People told me Dutch are very serious about their food, tasting is believing...

Yelp
How does this place not have a michelin star? Fantastic food, great wine and wonderful service. Our best meal in Amsterdam by far!

Yelp
Daalder was pretty amazing! Do not get deceived by its modest look and simple ambience. I, however, want to start with a suggestion. The restaurant needs to control some noise. Some customers with several bottles of wine on their tables were beyond reasonable noise. This was the only downside of the restaurant and almost made me give four stars instead of five stars. In terms of food, you get an Alinea-like experience with creative gastronomic dishes. The only difference is that it is so much more affordable than Alinea! I chose a 7-course meal and had no regrets. The servers were friendly and super helpful. Everyone speaks English while some servers do not speak Dutch, which should not be an issue for Yelp users. The chef changes the courses, so you might want to ask the servers about the daily course.

Yelp
Having been excited to return to Daalder after a dazzling first experience on a previous visit, I was perhaps disproportionately disappointed. Being seated at the bar (in spite of having had a reservation) was a poor choice, especially since the initially cordial staff got progressively personal and snarky, crossing the line of appropriateness on more than one occasion. The "secret menu" system is no more, which is not a big deal but does take a bit of the magic away. There are still dishes that are simply excellent, like the tasty cod and the beautifully presented lemon meringue pie shaped like an ear of corn. The tenderloin was flat-out disappointing, which, at a 35 euro surcharge for a very small dish, was a strikingly negative note. It was topped by a tasty foie gras, but the shaved truffle added nothing to the dish. With two tenderloin surcharges and two drinks each for my friend and me, the damage dinner came to 300 euros, which I would have rather spent on two dinners someplace else. Hey, you live and learn.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. Come. Keep an open mind & let the story unfold. Congratulations on your upcoming culinary experience! Sit back & be made aware of senses you haven't experienced before. Every course is precisely balanced yet delightfully unique. Staff is knowledgeable in a way that is clearly educated through both experience as well as passion. So glad we made the choice to dine here. It has been a highlight of our Amsterdam experience.

Yelp
We had a wonderful 4-course birthday lunch for my husband. I can be a picky eater and was at first deterred to go by a menu that I would not know in advance. However, I'm glad I took the chance. The waitress was lovely and asked me questions about what I liked, and they modified a dish for me as well. Our courses were started with an amuse bouche and a small starter bite and bread. So the 4 felt more like 5.5. The wine our waitress suggested was also well priced and delicious. It's a special occasion place to me because of the price, (was €125 for the two of us for lunch, not including a tip) but a great deal and well worth it! We would go back again for the longer dinner coursing!

Yelp
First time in this restaurant, wonderful food, very good and fair portions. I came for a Saturday lunch and in front of the restaurant is a very cute farmers market. I strongly recommend this place for demanding diners!

Yelp
Was in Amsterdam for a wedding. We brought a party of about 20 in for a dinner. One of the best meals I've had in a very long time, anywhere. Everything was on point and service was great for such a large group in not a huge space. Amsterdam food scene underrated and well represented here for sure.

Yelp
What a simply fantastic dinner. We were a group of 4 and opted for 2 of the 7 course dinners. Makes more sense than everyone ordering three course meals right?! Everything was so delicious - with a small exception of the fish that wasn't really good. The tartar, meat, bread, desert were each better than the previous course! Great wine list too, an amazing meal all around.

Yelp
We picked the 6-course dinner. Food was so bad, we requested it to be reduced to 4 without the main entree. We appreciate they agreed without any problem. Loud ambience. Too loud like a fish market. for a pricey restaurant. Relatively casual. They should lower the price. We do not mind paying for good food. This is not. Amuse Bouche 1: Thin cheese crisp topped with pungent mushroom sauce. Very nice sauce. Amuse Bouche 2: Ball of cheese in sour tomato water with chopped tomatoes, guacamole , served in martini glass Course 1: Called "perfect egg". Lobster bisque with shrimp and lobster in small glass, with carrots and topped with buttery foam. Course 2: Tuna tartare topped with greens, curry ice cream. Very bad combination. Course 3: Plaice with mushroom soup, topped with coconut foam. Course 4: White chocolate with coconut custard, cranberry mousse. Dessert was the only decent course. Food lacked flavor. Weird combination that did not make sense. There are several options in Amsterdam. It was pretty packed. Perhaps it was just us that do not like this style.

Yelp
You're probably looking for a restaurant in Amsterdam. Seriously just stop looking and book a table at Daalder. Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, or a group - you won't regret it! I booked a table online - SO easy, and there were ready for me when I got there! I opted for the 5-course with wine pairing. Oh. My. God. I died and went to heaven multiple times during that meal. They asked if I had any dietary limitations and I told them the less dairy, the better. I wish I hadn't said that and just sucked it up to eat the meal as the chef intended, BUT the courses I had with less dairy were INCREDIBLE. So all's well that ends well. The wait staff was extremely knowledgable but not pretentious or stuffy at all. Everyone was in jeans and the decor was a quirky bistro feel. The wine pairings added quite a bit to my final bill, but I felt they were worth it. All in all, it was the best dining experience in recent memory and I very much look forward to returning next time I visit Amsterdam!

Yelp
We've eaten here now on two separate trips to Amsterdam, and will be certain to make a reservation in advance again if (when) we return to Amsterdam (a lovely city, so I hope we will). The preparation, presentation, and most importantly flavor of their creations are astounding.

Yelp
Drum roll please! I am pleased to announce my first 5 star Yelp Review for an Amsterdam restaurant. I'll be the first to admit, I'm hard to please. Like many Generation Y'ers - I want (and believe I can have) it all. I demand practicality in price, but creativity in cuisine, attentive but unobtrusive service. Restaurant Daalder delivers on all counts, and then some. A rather unassuming looking restaurant located in Jordaan, the interior is what I'd describe as "Dutch Standard" with a few quirks - a picture of some silly fish with hair and a bookcase-come-secret-room are just a few things there were in my line of sight. The staff were welcoming from the minute all 12 of us walked in. As our number was so large, we did the chef's menu. They kindly inquired to see if there were any food preferences/restrictions that they should be aware of. I, the resident non-seafood eater, told them as much and I had a compatriot in a woman who didn't eat shellfish. I was very impressed by the way the starter was executed - for most of the table this consisted of a beautiful bowl of fish atop an oyster cream, surrounded by a cucumber juice, swirled with dill oil. I hate seafood but this was so beautifully presented I wanted to eat it! For my no-shellfish friend, they made her this dish but removed the oyster component and I received a totally different but equally as beautiful soft mozzarella cheese with chorizo and chorizo oil. I could be wrong, but I feel most restaurants would take the easy way out and just give myself and my no-shellfish friend the same starter. Instead, the chefs at Daalder went the extra mile to ensure both of our dining experiences were optimal. The main was equally delicious - a beautifully tender black angus, surrounded by piped flavour explosions of many varieties - aioli to artichoke - served with bami and topped with lemon zest. Lemon zest on top of steak? Who'd have thought!? The next particularly interesting flavour combination came in the dessert. Ripe pineapple surrounded by yogurt and cheesecake creams, served with tarragon meringues and a Thai basil sorbet. I could have done without the sorbet but this is because it was a bit too anise tasting for my taste. Overall, this was a fantastic dessert and the lightness balanced well with the rich steak we'd just had. Despite the sophistication of the food, there was no pomp or arrogance. Service was spot on: attentive but not in-your-face, considerate, informative, and just generally pleasant and personable (which is harder to find than you'd expect in Amsterdam). The staff here either genuinely enjoy their job or deserve an Oscar for pretending to! This was the best dining experience I've had in Amsterdam. Not to mention this came in under 50 Euros a person (and yes - that is including wine). Get the Restaurant Daalder soon - word on the street is that some guy called Michelin has been hanging around here. ;)
