26 of the Best Counter Service Spots in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Dabba, from a former French Laundry chef inspired by Sausalito’s popular Indian mash-up restaurant Avatar, is a choose-your-own-adventure quick service spot. Select pork, veggie, chicken, or lamb to fill your taco, bowl, or burrito; all come with rice, pickled carrots, chutney, yogurt, and chickpeas. Hummus, curry popcorn and mango lassis are excellent additions. Stay tuned for a second location headed to the Marina." - Caleb Pershan

Nice South Indian restaurant with authentic cooking straight from the heart. The flavours are bold, colourful and well balanced. The menu is interesting and has great options. We loved everything we had - the tiffin boxes with breads, rice and salads were just right. The venue is well designed with a low-key but thoughtful vibe, the service was friendly and attentive.

Very delicious food. I had a very informative chat when I mentioned my numerous food allergies and was advised accordingly. The special family recipe soup I had was superb and a must-have, but everything I ate was excellent. At first, I thought the portion size was small, but I left stuffed and will return (for a bucket load of the soup). My only small gripe was some of the artwork, but that is purely down to my personal likes. I travel whenever I can solely for food, and in the future, when asked for my fav places in the world to eat, this will be amongst them.

One of the best Indian meals I've ever had, with wonderful friendly service too. Everything was so well-executed, with harmonious flavours in every dish, plus piquant chutneys as a complement. And the paratha was excellent, which is always a sign of a place that knows what it's doing! Very much looking forward to going back next time I'm in Chester.

I've always wanted to try a tiffin box. This place did not disappoint. Very attentive service. The food came out promptly. I was very pleased with the flavour and seasoning of the overall dish. They were experimenting with a new chutney (peach & nectarine). I felt this worked really well. Sadly, too full for pudding.

Visited Dabba Restaurant recently and tried their Masala Dosa and the recipe of the day. The Masala Dosa was decent but didn’t quite hit the mark for me – it wasn’t really spicy 🌶️, and the texture was just okay. It felt like it lacked the bold, authentic flavors Indian food lovers might expect. On the brighter side, their recipe of the day was enjoyable and flavorful, which made up for the dosa experience. For those craving authentic Indian spices, I’d recommend asking the staff to add more while preparing, though the results might still vary. Overall, it’s a 3.5 to 4-star experience. A good spot if you’re looking for a casual Indian meal, but there’s room for improvement to cater to those seeking a truly authentic taste.

Starters good but let down by my main course Cooking venison has to be carefully done otherwise it dries out. Sadly this venison curry the meat was very dry. Add to that the lack of sauce and it was a challenge to eat. It's unfortunate because the flavour was there it just needed a little more thought and attention from the chef.

We’ve been wanting to try dabba for so long, and it was worth the wait. We have Indian family, and to find an authentic South Indian restaurant is a rarity. The service was incredible, they were busy (which we were happy to see) and were so kind about the wait times, which we didn’t find long at all. The masala dosa was incredible, and a special mention to the smoked haddock and sweet potatoes curry - amazing! One of the owners also came around at the end to say hello, which is such a special touch. Highly recommend, thank you for having us

I love this place. The staff are exceptional! They've recently started a wine board....If you like red, go for the Spanish red, which is fantastic and super clean. I really like the food......but my only request is, if requested, to make the spice level traditional, local Indian hot. We are not asking for 'as hot as you like' but having holidayed and worked in India many times......local spice level is the only thing that hits the spot. Hope to return soon!
