Daddy’s in South Padre Island has a solid reputation, but our experience was a bit mixed.
We tried a variety of dishes, starting with the Dirty Sampler, which sounded exciting but ended up being underwhelming. For $25, we expected a decent spread, but it was surprisingly small—especially with just a few stuffed shrimp jalapeños, some calamari, and cheese sticks. Honestly, not worth the price at all.
On the brighter side, the shrimp Alfredo was really good—creamy, flavorful, and the shrimp were cooked well. The shrimp tacos were also enjoyable, and the shrimp po’boy was generous in size and had a nice kick to it. However, we also ordered the Lila Special, which is supposedly award-winning, but it didn’t live up to the hype. It left a strange aftertaste and wasn’t something we’d recommend.
One thing to note: don’t drink the water. It had a strange, almost chemical taste that put us off. Also, be aware of the 20% service charge for parties over six, which is automatically added—and then you’re still expected to tip on top of that.
Overall, it wasn’t a terrible meal, but for the price and the uneven quality of food, we probably wouldn’t go back. There are better options on the island.
