Dad's Dog & Burger

Delicious Burger joint with quick service and friendly staff. The burger was seared with a perfect medium and the fries were crispy and light. I'll definitely need to come back and try the breakfast items as well as their shakes.

Finally had the chance to stop in and eat at dad’s dog and burger. I have to say they have a good cheeseburger, hot dog, and fries! Cheeseburger was comparable to the hot dog shoppe (very thin, crispy, and juicy)! Fries were hot and fresh and the hot dog was excellent. It’s all worth the price, especially with them being a new small business. The only reason I am giving this four stars is I HATED the chili. It tasted like sweet mushy beans and totally threw off my burger and fries since I got it on everything. I suggest getting a side of chili vs putting on the fries/hot dog/burger or whatever you choose to go with unless you’re 100% sure you like broth monger who they get it from. Overall, the staff was nice. Went at lunch and it was busy! The team was efficient, pumped orders out quickly, and there was minimal wait. Facility is clean and offers a couple booths and breakfast counter seating. Street parking only! I highly recommend but remember to get the chili on the side as it’s definitely an acquired taste.

Ran in here to get some lunch to go and left with a new favorite spot in Pittsburgh! I got a chili dog, a hamburger with all the works, and a side of fries for $18. The hot dog had a great snap and the buns on the dog and burger were perfectly buttery without being too bready. The burger has a nice char flavor and the fries taste like they were made just for my order; crispy, salty, and fresh. Overall I had a great experience and got my order in about 10 minutes.

Made it out to Dad’s dog and burgers in Bloomfield for lunch yesterday. This place is just a really cool vibe, down to earth place. No frills burgers and dogs that are just damn good too. The fries were crispy and salty. The burgers had a nice crispy edge to them, the onions were nice and fried, and the beef was really good. The hot dog was so good, snappy, and had great flavor along with the grilled bun giving it an extra bite. This quickly became one of my favorite spots in the city and I want to come back soon. Really awesome place and definitely suggest hitting it up! The place is small so be ready for a wait and tables are first come first served but it’s definitely worth it. Everyone was super nice and great.

Hot dog was ok. Wait time was too. Good portion of fries but there was so much salt on those fries. My very first experience was not pleasant due to that fact.

The bacon egg and cheese with an added hash brown is sooooo good. Quick and fresh! The staff were so friendly and the prices are pretty good! Great quick breakfast sandwich

Old School feeling with great food. I got the burger and fries, both were cooked to perfection. My wife got the hot dog and said it was good. Food was cooked quick. Place is small so be prepared to wait for a table or somewhere to sit but it clears up quick. Would definitely go back. Prices were fair.

A yinzer-millennial retro-cool burger joint. A wonderful experience and a breath of fresh air in a sea of other over priced cash grabbing restaurants in the city In general it’s like a fast casual thing w a twist on a 1950s/60s classic burger diner. Has a fun lively playful feel. Service was beyond friendly. Not a lot of seating but that also added to the lively feel, it was busy. In some ways it reminded me of a local millennial cool twist of the west coast in and out model. The food is 50s traditional and done well. Burger was cooked well an outside crisp yet still tender. Crisp onions added a wonderful bite and sharper flavor. Loved the potato roll which also added. Thin crisp Fries reminded me of in and out, but a bit better and not as cardboarded-y. Portions were nicely good and w a value. I like they aren’t trying to be desperately creative with the food, having to overly ‘elevate’ something or rename basic things in order to charge 50% more. It’s basic and classic and at a reasonably fair price. I believe pgh will respect this heavily Overall this place is great. I hope that more places try to be like this instead of just another meat and potatoes model restaurant, or another restaurant trying to push the prices even higher. 100% in everyway recommended

Sometimes in life the best things are the most simple. Dad's does an incredible job of creating a no frills burger that knocks it out of the park. The menu is reasonably priced and service is really fast. I truly love that you can get counter service and watch everything happen behind the scenes. This burger is the closest I've had to In-and-Out on the east coast and that is a high compliment coming from me.

You're walking into sometime between 1968 and 1974 when you visit Dad's Dog and Burger in Lawrenceville, across the street from West Penn Hospital. Three formica booth/table sets that will seat four each and six seats at the counter. Order at the front, pay, and they'll run the food out to your table about ten minutes later. Ketchup and mustard in squeeze bottles at the table, along with napkin dispenser. T had a plain single cheeseburger and was entirely pleased. I had a double cheeseburger with everything but tomato. A double burger is generous: next time I might do a single. These are solid diner burgers. Nice soft bun, good garnishes. Dad's isn't pretending to be a gourmet joint with some magical secret mojo -- they sell burgers and dogs plain and simple. You will like your burger. The fry basket is enough for two people. These are Very Good Fries and will remind you of that place with the arches and the clown. The onion rings are frankly amazing. These are battered (yay) and relatively thickly cut. They were cooked perfectly: no sad slimy extraction of the onion from the batter when you take a bit with these rings. The portion is huge: easily enough for you and two of your friends. We are looking forward to going back to try the dogs.

My wife and I went to Dad's Dog & Burger for diner. The place is very small with very limited seating. I ordered a hamburger and my wife and I shared fries and onion rings. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food came out pretty quick. The hamburger was really good and so was the fries. I did not care for the onion rings. I would definitely recommend this place. I would also go again in the future.

This is the type of burger you need to eat alone so no one hears you moaning. It was completely satisfying and I have no notes whatsoever regarding any way to improve it. Fries were also delicious, well salted, and a great texture. I visited around 11am on a Wednesday and there were a few counter stools and one table available when I arrived.

I know it's a newsflash for most people, but Pittsburgh is a FOOD CITY. The competition is fierce, so your food needs to be extra special. A Pittsburgh 3 Star review would be a 5 Star in most places. Anyway, Dad's is great place to grab some good, fresh burgers - made to order! Added Bonus: The staff and atmosphere are fantastic!

I recently met a friend here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 1:30 pm to try to avoid the lunch rush since the space is small. When we arrived, a booth opened up so it was good timing. You place your order at the counter and then your food/drinks are brought to you. I ordered a hot dog with cheese, ketchup, and pickles. I also ordered a side of fries and a vanilla milkshake. The food came out quickly. The kitchen/grill is out in the open so you can see your food being prepared. Overall, my food was good. It tasted like a nostalgic old school diner, which I liked! The staff were all so so sweet. They also have complimentary match books and stickers which is a fun touch. Overall, I'm glad to have Dad's in the city and I'll def be back to try some other offerings.

What a great addition to Bloomfield! Being inside Dads, a tiny, old school burger and dog spot, makes you feel like you're not in the city, but at a small town dive. Prices reflect that feeling too. All of the employees were super nice, trying to make connections with anyone who walked in. It's small and gets busy, but they seem to be managing well. Food was tasty, definitely scratched an itch for a simple cheeseburger and fries. I highly recommend the onion rings, maybe my favorite thing out of what we ordered. We'll be back soon.

I wish I would've tried this spot sooner! They just recently adjusted their hours and are now open til 6 pm! I arrived around 4:30 pm on Thursday and it wasn't too busy! It is a small space so seating is limited, but we were able to snag a table! We got two double cheeseburgers, shared a hot dog and onion rings, and I got a strawberry milkshake. Everything was amazing! We were too full and couldn't finish the onion rings, so when we asked for a bag to-go, they also topped off our ranch, which was a pleasant surprise! This will definitely be my new go-to for a fast diner meal. It has a classic diner feel and the staff are so friendly! We met Dad himself and he praised his daughter for all she's done for the diner!

A very solid, quick, smash burger. Despite the place looking busy, our food was ready in less than 10 minutes, and you can see them cook it right there. The sauce is great and they do not skimp on it so you have the flavor with each bite. The caramelized onions on top were a highlight for me. Sweet and a tad tangy, this is what was unique to this burger in my opinion. Way better than raw onion on top This is what I want when I say I want a smash burger

I really wanted to love this place but I didn't. It's just a burger. You can make it better at home. I'll give it to them, they don't advertise as a knockout burger. They just call themselves a hot dog and burger spot. I rank the burger a step above In-N-Out and a few below Shake Shack. The hot dog is terrible. I hate hot dogs. Cameryn likes hot dogs and hated these. She says a good plain hot dog needs to have grill marks which wasn't happening on this one The onion rings were awesome. By far the best thing there. But at the same time, the same onion rings I can go get at any bar or Chili's Inside was super small. 3 tables and about 6 barstools. If you go, don't plan on eating inside. You'll be lucky to get a spot. But I do love that about this spot too If this was the 60s this place would be awesome but in the burger game today this doesn't do it for me. Theres too many fire spots in the city to pick this one over them

Really enjoyed my first meal here! My favorite was the chili hot dog with onions on it. The dog had a nice snap to it. The double cheeseburger was also very good. Chocolate milkshake and fries were also solid. The place itself has a throwback vibe and so does the food. I went within the first week of opening so wasn't the fastest service, but I expect with time they will have a better process! With that said the owners and employees were all great. Set expectations on the wait and were super kind Highly recommend this business not just for the food but bc of the people too!

4/11/25 Ate List: Cheeseburger - 9.5 Chilli Cheese Dog - 9.0 Onion Rings - 9.2 I've fallen in love...again. First, everything about this space is very "me." It made me nostalgic. It felt like places I grew up going to. Love the vibe, music choices, quaintness, branding, everything. Let's go Chili Dog first. SUPER good. Cooked with a Smith's Dog (huge bonus points for me) and one with the casing so you get a snap with your bite. Cooked perfectly, loaded well. Oh, and Brothmonger's chili is EXACTLY what I want a dog. Onion Rings were PERFECT. Crispy in all the right ways. The Onion wasn't falling out and the breading stayed in tact. It wasn't burnt, it was crisp. Dipping sauce was ideal. Impressed there. Then. The Cheeseburger. I will dream about this burger. I bit into it and Bill Withers' song "Use Me" came on (both in the store and in my head). This is the SINGLE BEST SMASHBURGER that I've had in years. Perfect ratio of everything. It is in conversation for top 5 burgers all time for me. Dad's welcome to the neighborhood. You are the ideal neighbor. I went during the soft open so I avoided the hundred people in line for the grand opening. But I do seething spot getting busy. So, want to note two things. One, if too crowded, just get it "to go." There are 3 booths and like 7 bar chairs. Also, Dad's if you read this, very very small suggestion. Purse/coat hooks under the bar for the stool seats. They'd go a long way, it gets crowded sitting there quickly. 4/13/25 Ate List: Ham, Egg, and Cheese w/ a Hash Brown - 9.2 I've fallen in love...with Dad's again. You know when you're early into a new relationship and you're like "I have to see them again." Yeah, I just couldn't wait to find out what their breakfast was like. So I returned in less than 48 hours. The breakfast sandwich is the real deal. Perfectly cooked. Hashbrown was the best I've had in some time. The ingredients together create this perfect bite that is what dream breakfasts are made of. Pricepoint here for netting out at like $8/9 for just the sandwich is "a little" on the higher end of what I'd like to pay for it's size, so don't think I can plan to enjoy these every morning. But there are other spots charging this or more for much weaker food.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I'm a South Hills resident and typically partial to Moonlit. However, I would definitely drive to Bloomfield just for this smash burger and crispy fries. Those cartelized onions and better than McDonald's Mac sauce is worth the hype and drive. I'll be back for more!

Good decent burger! People inside were really nice and the aesthetic of the place is really cool. Love the way they give you some matches but fries were just a little too salt but could've just been one of those days!

I stopped in a little while ago just by chance when it started raining as I was waiting for the bus around the corner, and I don't think I've ever been so thankful for the rain. I ended up grabbing a cup of coffee and one of their breakfast ham and egg sandwiches and it was absolutely delicious. The coffee wasn't anything out of the ordinary but the food along with the setting made for an awesome, nostalgic diner vibe. I've been back a few times since to try their hot dogs and burgers and I'm more impressed each time. I always leave excited for the next time I'm able to come back!

OMG! If you're into an old-style diner experience, this is your place. With kind service even during busyness, the staff adds to the atmosphere. The smashed burger had lots of flavor without being overly greasy with salty shoe strings. The hot dog, also not too greasy, tastes like a ballpark hotdog. Perfect stop after a day at the Bloomfield Saturday Market. Note that there is limited seating and there is no public restroom. I will be returning as soon as possible as it is also pretty affordable!

Hot dogs that SNAP! They are the best of course ;-) Great tasting chili burgers as well the SNAPping chili cheese dog! Service is fast as fast as they can make it so be patient if they are busy. I'm not a shoestring fry kinda guy, but that's what they have when you 'make it a combo'! This place is legit and is the best (so far, I've found) around. GREAT JOB guys & gals at Dad's!

I perpetually suck at taking pictures at restaurants, maybe it's cause we have a toddler?!?! I really loved the old school diner vibe! The staff was literally the most friendly and kind (even after working along day). It wasn't super busy, but we went closer to closing time. I will admit, traditionally, we prefer smash burgers over regular, but these were pretty good! Everything was fresh and delicious. Even though we don't go out to eat burgers too much, we had to come try Dads! I would definitely recommend them!

DELISH. Loved everything about Dad's! Visited on a Saturday for lunch and it was bustling but it didn't feel overcrowded. It's a no-fuss space with counter seating and a few booths. The menu is small but perfect! Some breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, chili, milkshakes, and a root beer float. I always struggle with deciding what to pick at a restaurant, so this is helpful! Upon ordering at the counter, we snagged a booth and our food arrived at our table in just a few minutes. The cheeseburger was phenomenal. The bun was so soft, the lettuce was crisp, and the patty/cheese were perfectly hot and flavorful. Everything tasted nostalgic and familiar, but I can't pinpoint anywhere else in Pittsburgh with this style of burger! It's reminiscent of In-N-Out, perhaps? The fries are salty and crispy. The strawberry milkshake was an old-fashioned treat! My husband throughly enjoyed his hot dog with peppers and mustard. Next time we want to try things that feature Brothmonger's chili from down the street! Can't wait to return ASAP!

Looking for a $16 bougie burger to go with your craft beer? You've come to the wrong place. This is Dad's Dog and Burger, just like it says. Nothing fancy, ust dogs and burgers. All served in those red and yellow plastic baskets. Nice squishy buns. Just Choc-Van-Straw milkshakes, Killer onion rings.All the charm of a fake-wood-paneled diner.The guys were super friendly and hard-working. Not sure how they can get so many people working in that little space at once, but they were all moving quickly and clearly trying to provide a good experience. As a Chicago transplant I have a little grief with their dogs (where are the sport peppers? And you put KETCHUP on the dogs?) but all-in-all, solid and a good price.

Just left breakfast at Dad's. Perfect little spot on Liberty for classic diner feels (greatly lacking in the Burgh). Only a few tables inside so be wary of a wait! But worth the wait for a burger and milkshake!

Breakfast sandwich is 10/10 make sure you add the hash brown! Service is fast and the staff is so nice!! and pretty affordable too.

First visit went with the Bacon Cheeseburger and onion rings. Tough to beat. Want to try a dog but that crisp bacon, great soft bun right ratios on meat to ingredients. It will be tough not to get a burger again.

Popped in for the "soft opening" a few days before the Grand Opening for a hot dog w/chili and fries. The hot dog was natural casing (a rare treat these days) and they don't skimp on the chili. Fries are of the shoe string variety and perfectly crispy. I couldn't be happier with the food. BUT, even more noteworthy was the staff. What great people, so friendly and likeable. The parking can be a bit tricky but I can't wait to make this place a regular stop for lunch. Look forward to trying the burgers and whatever else they come up with. PS: Back a week later. At 1:30 I was lucky to grab one of the stools at the counter. Service surprisingly fast considering the standing room (waiting for take out) only. If things remain so busy, I may opt for take out. This is my kind of place. Oh, the onion rings are excellent.

Takeout was not hot. The burgers were mushy and not hot. Just not feeling it, sorry. The hot dog didn't seem cooked thoroughly. I know they are new and trying to accommodate everyone, but they need to check. Ended up throwing it in the trash

Good ol' diner burger. The fries are thin and delicious. The chili dog is THE BEST I've ever had. Natural casing, grilled bun and phenomenal chili. So happy it's right in the neighborhood.
