DAGNY Astoria

My boyfriend ordered an iced mocha and they forgot to put espresso in it. You can see in the picture that the color is lighter than normal. He also asked for extra chocolate but she didnt really put much. The barista looked very busy to accommodate the incoming orders coming in. We usually come in often but the drinks being made have been inconsistent. Paid 8$ for a chocolate milk.

Updating my 5 star rating from 3 years ago to 2 stars. This place is truly fumbling itself into the ground and is completely oblivious to what the demographic of their customer is: people looking for a nice space to get some work done solo or in small groups. They seem resentful of this demographic. Everyone here is with their laptop looking to work, study, or connect with 1-3 other people with coffee and pastries. Yet, they are blasting reggaeton and tiktok songs with free Spotify ads at *truly* incredible volumes throughout the place – they can see everyone is using noise-cancelling headphones to try to get work done (and it still isn’t enough to block the noise). They close at 3pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends for some reason, forgoing many primetime hours for their young working demographic with a dearth of “third spaces” in the area, but serve wine & beer? And there are not nearly enough outlets for all of the people on their devices. They are charging $18 for a small omelette with spinach and tomato. You pay $9 to wait 15-20 minutes for a single employee to make a pretty bad coffee for you along with the 7 other people on line. They used to ask if you were staying and give you mugs; they used to have more food and quality drinks in the to-go area – now it’s just sodas and beers and the food is often empty. And the pastry quality/selection is so bad. They completely removed the back glass-enclosed room for public use, and roped off more than half of the back area as “dining only” (the only area that has any backs to any of the chairs). And they’re all empty/unenforced anyway. The manager will pressure you to try ordering something from the menu (the kitchen stops serving at 3pm and the places closes at 5pm, but the place is still mostly “dining only” from 3pm to 5pm. It makes no sense.), but will make sure to let every single table know at 3:45pm that the place closes at 5pm and try to take a cup you are actively drinking from. It used to be a great “third place” I would recommend to everyone. Now, it reminds me of a chain hotel lobby. The place doesn’t know if it wants to be a café, a bar, a restaurant, or a venue, and it is doing all of them badly. I truly loved this place so much, and it is a shell of the potential it once had. [Entirely my own opinion: just abandon the entrée food entirely. Lean more into café and bar as the only other major option nearby is Chateau Le Woof and that is a very distinct niche/demographic. Turn down (or off) the music. Add extension cords. Make it so you can order with a table number with a QR code directly from the table instead of the confusing system currently in place. Maybe experiment with a ‘day/evening pass’ if you cannot be profitable with that alone and you don’t want people using the space without larger purchases – Astorians are desperate for the type of place you have the potential to be with some thought & care.]

My husband and I love DAGNY! Diego makes amazing lattes! Staff is so nice and the environment is so cozy and welcoming.

I really want to love, support, and patronize this place, but they make it so hard! Let's start with the good. The space is very clean, organized, comfortably furnished, and generally elegant. There are few spaces like it in Astoria. Most other cafes and restaurants around here are small and crowded. The menu is elevated comfort and diner food. The food is consistently good, and there's something for everyone. It's a good spot for brunch, or lunch, or a very early dinner, because they close pretty early, like 5-7, that seems to change often. Now the bad. Every time I have been there, the music is excessively loud, converting an elegant space into a hostile atmosphere. And every time I have asked the waiter or manager to please consider turning it down, especially when there are few other customers, they have deflected in one way or another. One time, a very friendly waiter said it was unfortunately not up to them, and she profusely apologized that the manager would not turn it down. Another time, a male server behind the counter said he would turn it down, but then he did not. My friends and I could not enjoy our conversation over there, the music was so overbearing, so we went back home to hang out. So long story short, 1) great space and 2) solid menu, but 3) excessively loud music creating a hostile atmosphere :-(

I visited a charming cafe that offered a cozy ambiance, perfect for working, reading, or sketching. Their coffee and breakfast options were top-notch. I’m planning to return to experience their evening vibe, where they host live jazz performances and movie nights, all while sipping on a cocktail.

Food is definitely overpriced for what you’re getting. Side salad is just a box of spinach. nothing else. coffee is okay!! syrups taste a little artificial. vegetarian/vegan options could use some help. other than the menu, staff is great! Super kind and nice experience with them.

The vibes are definitely off in this place. The more recent reviews describing the rude behavior of the staff are accurate. There are separate areas and ordering systems for eating and drinking coffee which is confusing, and they seem angry if you just want to order a coffee? The whole place just felt a bit hostile which is a shame because it looked so cozy online. The coffee itself was mostly lukewarm milk. Had high hopes this could become a regular spot for me, but will not be returning.

Sleek and modern lounge-esque cafe with big tables. Would definitely be convenient for working remotely. I got an oat latte and vanilla donut which were nice and standard. My friend got the grilled cheese which she said liked too. The baristas were friendly and the service was fine too. I plan to stop by for one of their jazz nights at some point!

Dagny is one of the few cafes on the western side of Astoria near Socrates Park. While I've only been to the takeout side, the cafe space looks spacious and beautiful, and they also host events like live music and movie nights. They are plenty of tables outside so it's nice spot to walk your dog, grab a drink, and then chill outside. The door might be a bit hard to find as it's right next to the Astoria West building entrance. At the coffee counter, the drinks are pretty standard cafe offerings. My go-to is an iced strawberry matcha, which is matcha with a bit of strawberry syrup at the bottom. There are also some pastries such as croissants and lemon loaves.

DAGNY is marketing itself as Astoria's only waterfront cafe, and they are somewhat correct. The only minor issue is that they are around the corner and part of a new mixed use condo that popped up along Vernon Boulevard. Inside are an array of special mixed-use tables and chairs, a quick pick up, a takeout spot with cold beverages, and further back, a large dining area which is very spacious with lots of seats.large-screen DAGNY reminds me of one of those restaurants you find in a large hotel with a large screen TV, wine bar, and professional waiters all dressed up. In terms of food, I ordered their specialty burger and can honestly say it was decent, not excellent. DAGNY is a little expensive, as you would imagine, so was the burger worth it? Probably not. As an entertainment center for those who like to drink beer and wine, it might have got a better rating from me. Would I recommend it? No, for dining out. For social gatherings, yes. Will I be back? That depends on the event being organized.

Came here for brunch on the weekend and the first thing you noticed is how chic and modern the designs are! There's a cafe part where you can order to go and there's seating for just the cafe part. There's also a brunch section where you wait to get seated and the servers are super friendly and attentive to anything you need! We enjoyed our avocado toast and breakfast burrito and my partner got a cappuccino which was perfection! We really enjoyed coming here and plan to come back again! Great place to meet up with someone or just come on your own and get some work done!

Ordered: 12oz Iced Lavender Matcha (~$6): with oat milk (+75¢) Aya's take: Not many cafes in the area so I found myself at Dagny. Only the grab and go portion was open when I went around 11am on a Saturday. It seems like a decent spot to study or work from if their seating area is open. I'm a sucker for lavender so this Iced Lavender Matcha immediately caught my eye. It was good but nothing out of the ordinary. It was really floral, creamy, lightly sweet, and gave me that mild caffeine kick I wanted. Good try!

Lots of seating! Plenty of outlets! They have wifi! I love this cafe for working! There is so much space and it's literally the perfect working cafe! We got the lavender matcha with oat milk! The staff was kind enough to make it less sweet for us and even gave us the option to add more sweetener if it the sweetness level was too low. I will definitely be coming back in the future!

Ambiance is chill and cozy. Service was good, staff was friendly and helpful. You pick up your order from the counter if you dine in. Coffee tasted rich and was made to my liking. I got the macchiato and my partner got the cappuccino. Wish I could try the almond croissants, but they were out of them when I went.

Ordered a lavender matcha latte. Taking off two stars because the cashier really wasn't listening and the taste. I specifically asked for a small hot lavender matcha. He placed a cold order which I called out for adjustment, and the drink still ended up coming out cold, which they did remake. I also ordered a small and he put an order for large and I was trying to tell him that I wanted a small but i don't think that message was getting through so I gave up (ended up costing $1 more). The drink tasted pretty bad and I threw more than half of it out bc I couldn't force myself to drink anymore of it . Don't recommend.

The coffee was delicious. I ordered a lavender cappuccino and wish I had got a bigger size. Will return to try the pastry. Dagny is cozy and it's the perfect spot to bring a book and read or get some work done

Pros: The view is great, there is a lot of comfortable seating, and a lot of outlets. Cons: The service sucks and the food/drinks are okay. I ordered for the ham & cheese croissant with the gentleman at the counter and it came out completely cold. I asked him to warm up again and it was still cold. The only reason I'm not giving it a 2nd star is due to the recovery: I asked another barista to warm it up again and showed her the cold cheese. She let me know that it may burn the croissant a little and asked if that was okay with me. I appreciated her informing me and she made sure that I was happy with it before I went back to my table. It wasn't super melty but at that point I was starving.

The ambiance here is really optimal and spacious for getting a little bit of work done. It's a coffee shop and cafe during the day and a bar at night. Definitely a gem of space compared to other coffee shops further down Broadway and Steinway - those will have competition for seats while this space will always have a table, couch space, or seat open. The waiters are attentive and kind, plus they'll deliver food to your seat if you dine in. Also their wifi is pretty speedy so I highly recommend that. Definitely a great space to basically cowork for a few hours of the day and get some delicious food. I got the elote salad which is a lot of corn ... But I LOVE corn and it came out fresh and hot which was perfect. One thing is I do wish there was maybe one other non caffeinated drink option - I think the hibiscus lemongrass drink is the only one that is the closest to having no caffeine. They do also have hot cocoa, though that can be pretty sweet for an afternoon. In the evening the bar vs cafe vibe might have you preferring not to use it as a study space at 10pm but to grab a drink instead. If you're pulling some midnight hours there isn't too much in the area, but this is the latest open place I know of in astoria that has a chill vibe, good space to study, and pretty consistent food and service.

The coffee was subpar. Didn't get any good so I don't know if it is any good. I wouldn't come back for the coffee here tho. (Caramel iced latte)

Stayed extra long cause the vibes were just perfect. Tried their mango margarita, espresso martini, and the BEC on brioche. It was all SO good and I took advantage of it being happy hour to save a few bucks.

Nice waterfront view, spacious, polite staff, generous portions. Space for studying, socializing, listening to live jazz, or movie night.

This place is pretty and has outdoor seating but I will not return for an espresso drink. The croissants look nice but I didn't opt for one in the morning. I ordered a latte but it came out pretty foamy. My "latte" was scorching hot and totally missed the mark.

Great baristas, spacious and good space to hang out. Clean tables, quick service. Great deal on croissant breakfast sandwiches as well. The coffee is solid. Nothing to write home about but I've never had a bad beverage here. Some of the specialty options are nice, and there's a nice selection of syrups for sweeter beverages for those who prefer them. It's also unpretentious which I appreciate.

Aesthetic is gorgeous, clean space, comfortable seating . Several charging points throughout the place . The food was ok, for starters we enjoyed tea and pastries as we arrived too late for lunch service, for dinner service which began @5:30 we only had the Cesar salads, we asked to add in protein understanding a possible charge was present however they refused and said it wasn't allowed despite them having entres with protein on their menu . The service was slow, poor, lacked quality . We had to ask several times for service . While it's a nice place to work at. I'm not sure I'd wanna return this is just a cute place to work .

Love this place. Ambience, food and fantastic sitting areas. I do my WFH here. Only thing is one time I was praying / meditating , and the server got in my face to take my order. I guess they aggressively want a tip but she got zero from me that day. Go though. No place is perfect.

Please note that this is a *drinks*-focused review, so I can't speak to the quality of food here! The 7 laudatory reviews for this place piqued my curiosity, so my BF and I walked over for a good drink on a chilly night. I tried one of the tea-infused cocktails (Reset Button) and my BF, who is admittedly a drink snob :D, got a Paloma. We weren't expecting necessarily Dutch Kills-type craft cocktails, but unfortunately, both of these drinks missed the mark. The Paloma tasted off...my BF said it tasted like they skimped on the tequila, and even I found it to be barely passable. It came with a lime garnish but you could tell they used an old lime! It also came in a tin container, kind of Moscow mule style...Palomas are supposed to be served in a highball glass though. That last part is a pretty minor detail, but I suppose it only drove home the idea that they weren't thoughtful about presentation. The Reset Button I got was ok, but it tasted a little too syrupy for me or like the ratio of spices to alcohol was off. Aesthetically, it's a nice space (although my BF and I always find the one squeaky table ). The lighting is a little too bright for a romantic date night spot, IMO. There are huge glass windows with views of the water, so I think this would be better as a daytime "work with your laptop" spot while having a coffee, or maybe a brunch/lunch spot. I'm willing to try again, but this is not the place I would come for drinks!

Beautiful new bar, cafe, and lounge space with amazing views of the waterfront! There's even a small market with packaged foods. This is a great place for any outing, whether it be grabbing a drink or a meal with friends, quietly getting some work done with coffee, or holding a work meeting in their conference room. The green tea margarita ($15) is absolutely a must-try. So delicious, perfectly sweet, and deceptively strong! All of the dishes were amazing as well. The super grain bowl ($15) was packed with texture. The cavatelli ($18) was fresh and cooked perfectly. The braised beef short ribs ($24) were my favorite, SO tender that the meat fell apart, and the sauce was perfect on the mashed potatoes!

If you're looking for a chill, loungey vibe to grab any type of drink, this is the place for you! Stumbled upon here with friends and instantly loved it. We were so excited to find a place with comfortable seating, great music, cozy ambiance, and a good sized menu. Added bonus is a view of the water! I highly recommend the truffle mashed potatoes! So flavorful and satisfying. The staff is also attentive and friendly, which is an added plus! Highly recommend if you're in this area :)

We hosted a private party at DAGNY for my birthday. Over 25 people. The staff was caring and attentive. The food was delicious, presented beautifully, and the pasta dishes came to the buffet table steaming hot. I can't say enough about how hard the staff worked to make this party perfect and unforgettable. This place is a very special addition to the Astoria waterfront. Whoever hires the staff here manages to find the kindest people who work hard to be sure every customer has a great experience. I highly recommend using DAGNY for a special event.

Would not come again. The service I received from Maria was simply unprofessional. She tried pressuring me to buy the dessert when I let her know I was on a budget. On top of that, some of the worst coffee ive had the experience of trying. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

A very eclectic vibe and you almost forget that you are in Astoria,Queens. It feels like you're in SOHO. The space has great Decor, ambiance and a perfect view of the skyline. A must visit and did I mention they have a full bar with cocktails. I truly enjoyed my visit. Sincerely, Abdul Fox

This is the WORST cafe I have ever been to. I came here after visiting the Noguchi Musuem and should of just gone to Dunkin Donuts instead. When my friend and I walked in, there were 2 servers just standing there. After an awkward 5 minutes I asked the person behind the counter if we need to wait to be seated or if we could sit anywhere. They said anywhere. Then we waited, and waited, and waited...I finally went to the counter and asked if there was table service or if we had to order at the counter. His response was "oh yeah I'm suppose to come to you but I didn't" ...okkkkkkkkk so after another 15 minutes, he comes over with no menus and asks if we know what we want. Obviously we don't bc we don't have menus. I then asked if the online menu is the same and he says "I don't know". I asked him if he has non-dairy milk, and he says "I don't know". WTF?! I then asks he if knows anything and he just looks at me. I ended up going to the front and waiting on the line for the to-go orders. The cashier there was nice. This guy should not be a server or deal with customers. He doesn't know ANYTHING. And yes, they do have non-dairy milk, almond and oat! Even I know that!

Went yesterday to hopefully have a chill time with wife and friends in the afternoon to find out they now close at 3pm until the foreseeable future. Huge bummer. We live in the neighborhood and we had been gone for the holidays so we were surprised to see on our way back from a day in midtown that it was there and the vibes looked nice so we were excited to have a nice little spot to go to on this side of the neighborhood for drinks and light dinner bites. I really hope they open up the dinner hours again as I was really excited to go there and bring friends over. As for the stars... i guess ill give it 2 since i got there after three so i didnt get to experience it just yet. Not a coffee drinker so I'll be back when its open past 3pm.

Great wine great views and great company! We got the Pinot Grigio and it was well worth it! Has a great view of the water and Roosevelt park. Highly recommend

The place has GREAT potential and would definitely be a regular pit stop in and out of Socrates park or even better: the perfect cocktail lounge in my neighborhood... Unfortunately the hours of Operation & the services need to be updated to reflect what is actually available. So far: I sampled the tea selection and caffeinated drinks only and they are correct...Staff was professional on both occasions and explained the lunch and dinner services should be back in a couple of weeks.

Great new spot. Food was fantastic and went beyond expectations. Tea-infused cocktails great and hope they expand the cocktail list with some additional strong/interesting options (have other options, but straight-forward) Really great and comfortable space with great view of the city. While understand that during the day this likely wants to cater more towards people working, once the sun goes down, especially in back area with view of city skyline, I think dimming the lights, playing music (maybe even live if possible?) and muting TVs would be a nice touch that would draw more people seeking a cozy date night scene. Will be back and hope you guys consider the above recommendations as really enjoyed our visit and think could be even better with some small changes!

Sleek, classy coffee shop meets trendy, low-key bar vibes in this waterfront location. Great food and drink options for all times of day, whether a morning coffee run, afternoon cafe study session, or late/date night drinks.

Still finding their identity as an establishment, but the staff are excellent. Clean and upscale modern ambiance and I am expecting great things.

The person who makes the drinks is rude and doesn't get the orders right. Second time I bring my friends and the order is wrong. She has an attitude if we Complain about her mistake. Beautiful space and Nice view but...

Great place to lounge, eat, and have a drink! The space is so nice and there's an amazing view! I tried the Truffle Mashed Potatoes and it was delicious. Definitely recommend!
