"Dotonbori’s takoyaki stands tend to be noisy chains crowded by tourists, who can put a damper on the vibe. Instead, follow Osaka’s teenage fashionistas to Daigen, a bare-bones vendor in Amerikamura, the district of vintage clothing and vinyl records. For decades, an elderly couple has been doling out octopus balls topped with mountains of green onions, as well as takosen (takoyaki sandwiched by two thin, crisp, shrimp rice crackers). Daigen’s batter strikes the right notes — soft inside, crisp outside, and not too heavy — adding nuance to the street food staple." - La Carmina, Michael Sosnick
Takoyaki Is More Than a Street Food in Osaka, Japan - Eater
"If the crowded food carts of Dotonbori aren’t your speed, head to Daigen in the laid-back hipster district of Shinsaibashi. The elderly owners have perfected their takoyaki recipe over the decades, doling out balls with a crisp exterior and oozy interior. This mom-and-pop shop also specializes in takosen: octopus balls mashed between light pink shrimp crackers, a favorite on-the-go snack for young Osakans." - La Carmina
100 percent authentic takoyaki made by a sweet old japanese couple. They couldn't speak much English, but we were able to communicate anyway.
The takoyaki was excellent and very affordable!

The best. Super soft style. You’ll notice the only bad reviews are people who got yelled at for loitering rather than people who ate here.

Best takoyaki in Osaka maybe! The batter is so flavorful, I don’t know what it is but it’s so addicting.

The owner (as seen in other reviewers pictures) refused to let my wife and I sit inside. First time it happened ever in Japan. At least the takoyaki was decent but you can find better elsewhere.
