From the very first time I ate here to now, they have expanded their menu largely, leaving me spoilt for choices. They even offer sashimi. However, I was looking to try more of their own cooking as sashimi can be found elsewhere. So we ordered their popular Hamburg, add on $1 for a bowl of rice. The meat holds together well and the sauce elevates the taste. Wedges are abit soggy, not crispy but it might be on purpose. We also ordered the chicken katsu don. The katsu was surprisingly refreshing! Mentaiko fries was huge at only ~$7! I also ordered an add on of tempura mushroom. They're not as soft as the other higher quality ones I've tried but for just $2, it's worth it, though I hope they would have given some sauce to dip with as it can be dry and oily because it's fried. Lastly, the taiyaki looks underwhelming but my friend said it's delicious and it's only $1! Looks can be deceiving I guess! Do take note that their portion can be very filling for someone who doesn't eat much so I would advise to share and order desserts! Looking forward to coming back here to try more of their delicious goodness! :)

my go-to place for food in SMU! Whenever my friends visit I would bring them to Daijobu. The food is pretty affordable and good quality, plus the vibes r super chill. Portion size is also just nice :D the miso soups were complimentry as well! Definitely give it a try if u happen to be at bras basah mrt or smu! Food in pics: Yamakake Udon w/ Ebi Fry, Mixed Salad, Seared Salmon Mentaiko Soba Salad, Egglet with Icecream

a japanese cafe tucked in SMU (bras basah mrt) that offers discount to SMU students. no GST & service charge and very good ambience with cute anime-themed decorations :P think the owner likes anime quite a lot we ordered the mentaiko cream pasta ($8.9) and curry katsu don ($10.9). the spaghetti has a pleasantly bouncy texture and is tossed in mentaiko cod roe sauce, but the sauce could be slightly watery 🤔 flavour wise it would suit those who prefer sweet pasta sauce. the toppings are really satisfying - an jiggly onsen egg and dancing bonito flakes, all well-integrated in this recipe :) the curry itself is good, having the unique spice of japanese curry while not being overpowering, it also goes well with the QQ rice, but the chicken is not as pleasant because the skin is a bit annoying, luckily the shell is very crispy.

Second time coming. Had the soba salad with salmon mentaiko. Very good. Last time had the hamburg steak steak which was very flavourful, strong beef flavour.

Perfect lunch option in SMU. Authentic Japanese food with a bold taste. Hamburg is moist and tasty. Curry katsu was crispy and tender. Curry gravy was flavourful and thick. Order and pay at the counter or order at the table. Had a great lunch here. Will be back!

When I first started coming to Daijoubu, it was just to cuddle the Barbara pillow, and I affectionately called it "the weeb café". I mean, look at the place, it's full of posters and has a full backdrop! But having spent more time here in my graduating semester, I've found so much more. I've met friends here, gotten to know the staff and some regulars, and experienced so much warmth. The food (why you're probably reading this) is lovingly prepared and of course delicious, at portions that match and often exceed their value. From the egglet to the mix and match to the mains, there's something for your hunger level and price point. They also provide seasonal additions and events/collaborations that show that the people who run Daijoubu aren't just here to take your anime loving money, they actually care for the ACG properties that you see in the café. They understand the ground that they're catering to, have ideas for how to keep their market engaged, and are determined to make your time here a satisfying experience. They're also open to suggestions for fun things to do, so feel free to have a chat with the staff if you've got ideas. I know my time here will decrease after I graduate, and I am sad about it. But I will do my best to keep coming back. I'll always cherish these hours I've spent at Daijoubu, and I hope the team here continues to serve the SMU anime fan community and beyond.

Came here for the Arknights event. Would have been nice to see more creatively themed items for the Collab menu, as the stuff was mostly generic and just associated to the respective operators by colour/name, and quite overpriced. Also, not a weeb btw I was forced to come here

Great place to have a bday party. Such a fun experience . Owner Lena is absolutely friendly, food is amazing and the cafe is so cosy, it created a celebratory ambience. Wonderful easy going vibe. Definitely recommend for lunch / dinner and bday party too. The Tamago was to die for. A must try when you are there . Great place to meet with friends for a catch up meal.
