I lived in Manhattan for 6.5 years after undergrad and kinda took bagels for granted. They were an inexpensive carby satisfying breakfast. It was only when I moved out to San Francisco that they became an event to try each new rising star, since most existing bagels in the city were pretty sad. Daily Driver isn't quite inexpensive (about $5 for a small bagel & cream cheese), but it is so satisfying! Not only are the bagels good, but the homemade cheese surpasses what you usually get in NYC (where the cream cheese is usually an after thought). Unfortunately, many of the non-bagel items aren't that great, so best to avoid them.
Garlic Bagel w/ Dill Cream Cheese: This might have been the best bagel & cream cheese I've had in San Francisco. The bagel was bit smaller than a typical NY bagel, but it packed a lot of flavor. The generous toasted garlic on top was especially tasty, adding a really nice zing. The top of the bagel was perfectly crispy and chewy at the same time. The bottom half was a tad too crunchy though. The cream cheese really stole the show though. It was way better than the Philadelphia goop often used in NY delis, having a very nice fresh tang to it. The dill mixed in was a nice touch. Overall, it was a very pleasant morning experience.
Everything Bagel Dog: I was a bit shocked that I spent $10 for a bagel dog. A bagel dog. But it is San Francisco and it is the Ferry Building. Much tastier than the grocery store version though. The everything topping was really good and the bagel tube had the nice balance of chewy and crunchy. The hot dog was just ok though, nothing wow-worthy.
Chips: These were probaly the most disappointing thing I had. Not crunchy at all. Soggy with grease. Even cheap potato chips from a gas station would be better than these overpriced homemade chips.
Everything Pretzel w/ Chevre: Not what I was expecting. It was shaped like a pretzel, but it kinda just tasted like a really dense whole wheat roll. Very dry too. The everything spice was nice though. But yet again, the cheese stole the show. The chevre was so creamy and so fresh, it really saved each bite.
