I discovered this little gem traveling to Austin from Katy. Absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish! The bacon cheeseburger was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had — perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. The bacon was crispy, the cheese was melted just right, and every bite was delicious. The fries were hot, fresh, and seasoned perfectly — crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. And the mint chocolate chip milkshake? Incredible. Thick, creamy, and loaded with Oreo pieces — the perfect sweet finish to an amazing meal. On top of the great food, the staff was outstanding. Super friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. Even better, the wait time was impressively short — we got our food quickly without sacrificing quality. Great food, great service, fast turnaround — I’ll definitely be coming back! 🍔🥤

Small town burger place Dairy Queen inspired has good food. Food was fresh and the junior burger was big! Chili baked potato was large and delicious appreciated the jalapenos and the fancy burrito was good the fresh lettuce and tomato was liked. Good ice cream chocolate soft serve shake was thick. Outside seating had some insects circling trash.

Real hamburgers that are fresh ground daily. It is good but a little pricey. Staff is very friendly but my waitress didn't listen to my order and my order was wrong and after I had to correct my food it was soggy and very messy! Wait time was a good while and this is with only a few customers. Good old fashioned place but they are slowly going downhill because of lack of concern for customer service and lack of pride in their work/job!

I used to visit this place regularly when my grandparents had a weekend place in Columbus back in the early 1980s. I stopped by the other day for my first time in over 40 years, this time with my city girl wife and kids. Place honestly hasn't changed much at all and that is what I like about it. Staff are nice, they take their time to take your order and make it right (regardless of how many people are waiting). Burger was great, milk shake and malts where great, onion rings were great. Prices were a little on the high side but that is no different than anywhere these days and I don't mind paying when the product is as good as it was here. The whole family enjoyed their meal, and I have a bunch that is usually all hard to please. Somethings are better left they way they are, thanks Dairy Cone for never changing!

Food was delicious 😋. Employees were super polite. Food came out hot and on time. Sweet Tea was amazing! I even got a free French frie in my onion rings basket. That's a win in my book. Good luck Cardinals next weekend 🙌.

Damit I like burgers and this double meat , double cheese burger was delicious almost couldn’t finish it. Customer service at the window was great, with a smile and friendly attitude. Seasoned just right, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Mustard and mayo. With a side of fries and a cold Dr. Pepper. Ahh excellent burger. A great place to eat some excellent fast food, and excellent family time for All. Hurry up it’s Good eats🍔🍟

Old school 70's goodness! We always stop at Dairy Cone on the way to San Marcos. Never dissapoints! Frito pie always good along with Soft Serve Ice Cream and Burgers.

Saw this place while passing through the town. I love places like this. I only tried the shake this visit. $5 for a small shake is not very Texas friendly but hey, I don’t know your overhead. The real problem was the strawberry shake was a little bland. It was not very sweet at all. The clerk said they use Blue Bell ice cream but this shake seemed watered down. I’d come back and hopefully this was a one time problem.

After a quick day trip to the hill country & headed back to glorious Houston (ugh) - I was craaaaving a burger. Not just any burger, a roadside burger! Roadside diner food just hits different. It's hot, fresh, made to order & has a distinct homemade taste versus your franchised fast food burgers. I had seen Dairy Cone on Apple Maps before & thankfully it pulled up as we were heading home. Husband & I got into a friendly debate over it. I won & he admitted it was a good choice. The food was hot, fresh, and hit the spot with that roadside diner taste.

Good burger! Great value! Favorite place to get a great burger. One of the things to look forward to when traveling from San Antonio to Houston!!!!

Food is really good, the service is also awesome! It has a hometown feel to it. Definitely worth a stop.... Support your local small business. Burgers and soft serve ice cream cones always hit the spot!

We came across this little drive in cities after a drs appointment and man we were glad we did. Cute old school vibe great prices great food great customer service we will be back to see y'all!

A great hole in the wall burger and onion rings spot. I'm forever a fan of this spot for sure. The service is great, fast and welcoming. The burger was spot on and I'll recommend the grilled jalapeños for sure. The fresh onion rings are amazing and a must have.

Went for the ice cream and round ordering hamburgers they looked and smelled so good. They did not disappoint. Seating is only outside at metal tables but the food made up for the lack of atmosphere.

Worthwhile burger spot off the the freeway. Tried this place as we were heading from Houston to Austin. Cheeseburger is extremely good and the bun is on point. Fries are super good and worth getting Onion rings are delicious and really raved about, which I would agree Ice cream - got swirl and was a really nice treat Note: Long wait time. First time we tried it was 50 min and we had to come back on our way back from Houston and it was 20 min on a tue at 5 Definitely recommend checking this place out if you are on the road looking for a good spot. Just make sure you give yourself time...

Small town vibes, with delicious soft serve cones wonderful customer service and friendliness. My Sweetheart (husband) and I stopped in Columbus on our way back to SA. It was an extremely hot day, we saw the sign and decided to oblige, so glad we did!

If you are looking for an old fashioned flat top grill burger...this is the place. The burgers are hot fresh and full of flavor. Onion rings and fries are always made to order so you're never going to get a soggy fry or greasy onion ring. There is no indoor seating but there are tables outside to sit. I normally order through the drive thru and they have a designated waiting spot in the back for them to bring out your order when it's done. There is always a small wait but you have to understand you are getting freshly made food so it's TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Food was fine but we waited an hour in a parked spot to receive our food. Not a ton of flavor but it did the job.

Unfortunately we cannot comment on the food since we sat there for 30 minutes waiting in food which we never received because??? We aren't sure, but they couldn't find our order. Manager was super rude. Tried to refund us less than what we paid. A bummer way to end our night. Also, get a hand washing station, somewhere! You have a sink in the back that could easily have soap and paper towels.

We drive from Austin to Columbus. This is the half way point. We meet for my grandson. I yelped for a good burger. I ended up getting the steak sandwich and onion rings, so did my husband. We both enjoyed our meal on their tables outside. We will definitely be visiting this place again.

This place has the best hamburgers. It's worth the wait for them to make it fresh, just like that other chain does, but this is way better. They can get busy at times so call your order in if you do not want to wait. I don't order much from the rest of the menu, but the fries...those are nice and tasty.

The cutest little burger joint with all the small town vibes. My sister and I stopped here on a recent girls trip and were both blown away. The burgers were dynamite and the onion rings were so crispy!

Burger was average. Not very hot. Chicken sandwich was pretty good. Tots were average and the fries were not good. Very limp and not warm. We waited over 30 minutes for our food, which would have been okay had it been good but it felt like the order had been sitting around. Definitely the fries were not fresh. It seems like a cute burger joint but the food definitely needs to be improved. Plus side: the staff was friendly.

This place is perfect for take out especially in this time of Covid. I love the mom and pop burgers stands that echo an older era. This is one... thank goodness a traffic tie up on I-10 had the GPS tell me to take a different route. The route took the same amount of time IF I HADN'T STOPPED at this little gem off the beaten path. It was so good we stopped on our way to our destination AND on the way back. So what's great about this place? Fresh ground beef cooked to perfection on a toasted bun complimented with fresh crunchy lettuce, ripe and flavorful tomatoes, sliced onions, and the perfect slather of mustard/mayo combo so perfect it did not overwhelm the burger in taste and it did not dribble out on my shirt. It is the perfect burger and the size is just right too. Not to small and not huge. Kind of a Mary Poppins burger-- perfectly proportioned in every way. Fries- perfect 10. Hand cut or so they seemed. Not over sated.,crunchy on the outside and potato-y on the inside. The kicker! They have FROSTEES! These are hard to come by and many people don't even know what they are! It's simply a soft drink mixed into ice cream. Imagine a root beer float that someone has whirled up for you and the ice cream is still frozen. That describes a FROSTEE. I think I'll be exiting before I get to I-10 and 71 interchange more often when I make this trek. Now if only the patrons would were their masks and stay 6 feet from me. That would be perfection. The Employees are doing their best to do that.

Good food! Good people! I usually call my orders in 15 minutes prior to pickup. Always on time, hot and fresh!

We waited over an hour for our food. Tacos were fine for fast food tacos. Nachos were just tortilla chips with the fake-cheese you get at the ballpark. Burger was fine, but nothing to write home about. Nothing worth waiting an hour for. Won't be back.

We stopped by Dairy Cone in hopes of getting something local. Since they are doing take out only, I read the sign that said to wait in my car after I ordered. This is what I did for 20 minutes, wrongly assuming someone would come deliver my food like sonic. I even told the cashier where I was parked. After a while, I went back up to the window and they had my food ready. I'm not sure if this was miscommunication on my part, or if they had taken 20 minutes to make a burger, but it left me annoyed. Wish they had clear instructions on what to do after ordering or more communication from the staff. But this is not a fast food place. Burger was ok - the patty was quite large but not a huge difference compared to What a burger or other fast food places. We also got the ice cream which boasted it was Blue Bell, but tasted like normal soft serve. Won't be coming back due to slow service and mediocre food.

This family-owned small restaurant in this small town has the BEST BEST BEST burger in the country, and I'm not exaggerating. I haven't tried their other dishes because it's so hard to pass by the opportunity to get such a good traditional hamburger since I live 2 hours away - in Austin. A family member used to work there and said they grind their own meat. It's freshly ground meat so perhaps it has a lot to do with the flavor of the patty. What differentiates Dairy Cone with other burger joints or even expensive burger restaurants is the way they sear the patty. Each patty is seasoned to perfection with the right amount of salt and pepper, simple yet so delicious. Most importantly, the patty is not too thick, not too thin, it's just the right thickness - more on the thin side. It has the perfect sear on the outside, but it's super juicy inside. Their burger comes in one size and it's a very good sized one. They slightly toast the inside of the buns so it's great. Their fries are great and crispy. They are not thinly sliced, more on the thicker cut, but good. Honestly I personally don't care for other fancy burger places where they have bacon in it, put blue cheese in it, or put extra stuff in a burger. Those are all good for once-in-a-while try. When I crave a burger, I only want a traditional burger with juice and delicious patty, toasted buns, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and diced onion. Dairy Cone burger is always the good old-fashioned one that is forever my go-to place for burger. If you travel from Austin to Houston, please stop by Dairy Cone to give it a try and you won't be disappointed. They also have very good Blue Bell soft serve. I haven't had one because the burger also fills me up. My mom tried their soft serve and gave me great feedback. The only burger place in Austin that I can compare to the greatness of Dairy Cone is Dan's Hamburger.

Good Golly Ms. Holly, this place is a legendary burger place in Columbus is a classic. Perfect burgers, awesome steak fries, and perfect salt on the fries, this place is a MUST stop for a classic American burger. They've got a drive thru and an outdoor seating area

Holy cow amazing!!! Servive, price, , size of the burger, tender chicken ! If you want a real 1950s Burger experience, this is the place to go. Even the prices of from the 1950s. They play 1950s music outside. Great seating, Overhang if its raining, And the service is phenomenal. The crazy thing is at they are known for their ice cream. I can't wait to try that! You are crazy if you go to McDonald's! Those days are over!

Not a good experience. We waited about 20 minutes for 4 burgers and two fries. The burger patty was burnt and way over salted. The girl who took our order was not polite and apparently doesn't know how to smile. Not going back the next time we are between Houston and Austin.

This place is such a gem. I feel like no matter what you're in the mood for...they can satisfy the craving. The food is always fresh and cooked to perfection. Can't go wrong!

You can ask anyone, I know my burgers!!! I've traveled all across this country and I can tell you the best of the worst of them. And this one is in my top five! Currently ranking the #1 spot! New to area and hate the chain guys! I've Been here twice in the last week, and both times met with a smile and friendly service. While the wait was quite extensive (A full 15 minutes AFTER ordering each time), I'm good with that when it comes to great food. I do wish they would hurry a little, because both times my food was only lukewarm when I received it. I just warmed it up when I get home. Highly recommend. Had the bacon cheeseburger both times and it was fantastic!

Waited 20 minutes for a hamburger and chocolate malt. Bun over toasted to the point of mostly burnt. Not a very tasty burger.

This place never lets me down! They actually form all of their patties every single morning before they open. Some favorites are the burgers, shrimp po boy, seasoned fries and sweet potato fries......don't forget the soft serve ice cream or Blue Bell!

Old fashion cheese hamburgers and shakes. They make it exactly as you order it and it's worth the wait. The fires are crispy but not burned and the baked potatoes are huge. Easily the best shakes around. How could they not be when they are made with Blue Bell ice cream! The team is always friendly and willing to answer any questions. We also stop here every time we come to visit family in the area.

Took an hour and they didn't even warn us, after 30 minutes we asked how much longer and they told us 20 minutes. waited another 30 and they told us 5 it took another 20 after that. Sad thing is the food wasn't bad, but the costumer service was horrible.

This old school walk-up / drive-thru ice cream stand and snack bar is an amazing slice of Americana and a throwback to summer nights and simpler times. My wife and I were driving through Columbus for the first time and saw the sign out front that read "freshly ground burgers" and knew we had to stop! Friendly staff that makes food to order, so allow for a little wait time, but BOY is it worth the wait! One of the best burgers we've had with a great crust from being cooked to crisp perfection on the flat top. Frito pie was delicious, old school with nicely-seasoned chili, onions and jalapeños. If I lived anywhere near Dairy Cone, I'd eat here a few times each month. Highly recommended!!

What?!!! Who knew you could find such great burgers at a little tiny drive in like this? Service was not friendly. Seemed like the guy that waited on us would rather be anywhere else, but the food was delicious.

This place is awesome. Been going there for yearssss. The burgers are never frozen and they are patted out daily (I am friends with the people who ground the meat up for them and the people who pat them out daily). Blue bell ice cream for dessert is always my go to. 1/2 Butter pecan 1/2caramel blue bell shake YES! Banana splits with blue bell are awesome too. Ask about the Case burger!!!

Wide menu - drive try thru w pick up in the back. Or go to window. We like their burgers but I love the fish basket. All good. Customer service is great.

This is such a cute little local stop with excellent food! Brought a group of 28 which was more than they were expecting but the service and food was excellent. Of the 28, 26 were teenagers who all said "we need to come back to this place it was so good." We ordered a variety of food from burgers to chicken sandwiches and strips, to milkshakes and everyone was full and happy! Success! I will be back for sure!

SOOOO STINKIN' DELICIOUS!!! We had to take a detour due to the highway being closed and found this gem. We laughed at the name and how it was a knock off.... after eating here I am thinking the other place stole the name from Dairy Cone! This is a cute little drive-in where you walk to the window and order. The people working there are so Texas friendly I could hardly contain my happiness. We ordered the cheeseburger, frito pie, chili cheese dog and french fries. After I ordered, the girl asked what I was driving and told me she would wave to me when my order was ready. So, I returned to my car and anxiously awaited her wave. OMG! HEAVEN!! All of the food is handmade fresh, no premade stuff here. The hamburger was HUGE and so delicious. The frito pie was a Southern Girl's dream and the chili dog was tasty. We left fully satisfied and only about $20 lighter in the wallet. I can hardly wait to get over there again for another deliciously cheap date night!

Every small town should have a local institution that's off the beaten path and worth a road trip. Fortunately, for those of us who travel between Austin and Houston, Columbus has such a place on US 90 going through town. Back before I-10 was the main freeway and US 90 was the main highway, this was, no doubt, the local hang out. And to an extent, it still seems to be an institution with the locals. The location looks like an old fashioned Tastee-Freeze location with only a walk-up window. There's a huge variety of burgers, various American snack foods, a bit of Tex-Mex, and an equally large variety of dairy treats. Unlike a lot of ice cream treat purveyors, Dairy Cone offers you a choice of soft-serve ice cream or Blue Bell. My tacos were as good as fast food can get. Crispy corn shell, good ground beef, and finely shredded cheese with a few packets of taco sauce. Surprisingly filling and inexpensive, too. But the nicest part of eating here is the staff. Everyone there is small town friendly and justifiably proud of everything on their menu. I almost had to beg to get them not to offer me dessert -- which my blood sugar sincerely appreciated. But I will definitely be back for food or dessert again.

Driving through Columbus we came across a large soft serve ice cream sign if front of an old style drive up restaurant. I haven't seen a place like this in years and haven't had ice cream in what seems like years, lol. They have covered parking in front of the restaurant which was great as it was raining cats and dogs. The menu is on a board on the front of the building. They have your standard lunch items, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, fries, tatter tots, etc... You place your order through a sliding glass window on the front of the building below the sign. You will pick up your food though the same window. The girl who took our order was friendly and had our cones out in a flash. The only thing that I have tried here is the soft serve Blue Bell vanilla ice cream and it was very good. If you are craving ice cream and and are in the Columbus area, this is the place to go.

My husband and I ordered the steak finger basket on Tuesday. We picked up the order and took it home. The basket includes steak fingers, salad, fries, gravy and toast. The steak fingers had no taste, the fries were so overdone that they were hard to eat and the toast was burned. The only part that was really edible was the salad and the gravy. We have eaten here often and this is really the first time that we have gotten such a bad meal. Perhaps they have a new cook or whatever, but to put burned toast on a plate is not acceptable.
