"Family-run Dairy Hill Ice Cream originally opened in 2015 and now has three locations throughout the Portland area. Milkshakes come in three sizes, with three pre-set ‘house shakes’ available. If the Extreme Coffee Shake, which includes Kona coffee ice cream and a shot of cold brew, is too much of a caffeine commitment, Dairy Hill Ice Cream offers a shot of cold brew espresso that can be added to any shake for $1. The Black Forest Shake, featuring Bordeaux cherry ice cream and hot fudge, is a lovely blend of chocolate and cherry." - Maya MacEvoy

SerpAPI
Amazing little ice cream shop. Great staff and fast service, tons of flavor options. They even do "family sundae kits" to take home.

Spencer Hunter

SerpAPI
Pretty standard fare ice cream shop. Nothing special, not super clean or friendly, but prices are okay, selection is fine, and hey, it's ice cream! Local shop, so definitely better than some of the chains. Worth a visit if it's close by.

Joan Hay

SerpAPI
Good ice cream selection. The kona coffee is too mild and the expresso coffee was too heavy so I got two junior scoops for my cone wish they have a better coffee ice cream.

Nicole B

SerpAPI
I gave it 4 stars because of the customer service. However it's just Umpqua ice cream and way over priced for just a scoop. I didn't know that that is was they served, or I would have just bought a gallon at the store.

SerpAPI
The ice cream is good and I appreciate vegan options (though would love more) but their labeling is bad. They had a chalkboard/menu with all the flavors with labeled vegan flavors on one side, and they had a flavor that wasn’t vegan listed under it. I ate it and felt pretty sick which is why I asked about it next time I went (which by then they had changed the sign so they must have noticed the mistake) and they said it wasn’t vegan and was never written under the vegan side (though I had a photo from that day showing it…) Thankfully for me that’s all that happened but could’ve been a horrible outcome as the result of carelessness for someone with a more severe dairy allergy, and it would’ve been nice for them to take accountability.

The people working here were so friendly! They made sure that they got my whole order perfectly right even though I made it a bit complicated. It was all very delicious. Their vegan options are really yummy too! I'm a fan of salted caramel chip

SerpAPI
the vegan ice cream here is really good. even better was the service though, i was helped by a delightful lady with blueish hair and she was so incredibly sweet and just radiating positive energy. she put time and care into something as simple as scooping ice cream but the delicacy and effort in which she put sprinkles on my ice cream just… made my day. thank you!!!

SerpAPI
What a fantastic experience! We walked in late on a Friday night and were greeted by two joyful humans behind the counter. They were kind and helpful. The ice cream is always good. Get a milkshake! I tried a vegan cherry flavor that was awesome. Thanks Dairy Hill!

Yelp
Nice little ice cream place. Toddler approved Lots of coffee ice cream choices - made it hard to decide Great service Steady busy place

Carol P.

Yelp
Same yumminess has the multnomah village ( what's the name- the one close to there) location kids love it. They offer tastes of all the yummy flavor. Wasn't too crowded and easy to get. Tons of parking which makes this better than multnomah / other locations

Michelle B.

Yelp
Simple and creamy and a wide variety of flavors. They even have dairy free options. Cool place to hang out. Friendly service.

Yelp
Our granddaughter's birthday cake ice cream, 15 years old came from here, ordered by her mother. Luckily, her favorite ice cream is Chocolate Mint Ice Cream, and she got the cake with that. The reason, why I'm writing a review! I may not, if it didn't include a layer of Chocolate Mint Ice Cream. LOL I think that was the best ice cream CAKE I've eaten, and I think it's been a very long time (86's), when we bough one for the kids' birthday cake at another brand: Baskin Robbins. Come to think of it, it was the same granddaughter's DAD, when he was 10 years old, that we got the Cake Ice Cream!

Yelp
Great place, ice cream is yummy. The guy who helped us is so nice and friendly. Had the Cherry ice cream, yumm. Try the black licorice ice cream, such a wonderful surprise. We all Loved it

Megan C.

Yelp
AMAZING customer service! I've been upset lately over the fact that you can't find great, friendly, helpful service anywhere (even Nordstrom!) but my experience today made me so happy. Please give this wonderful woman a raise!! She helped me out today afternoon. The ice cream selection is good. All Umpqua brand. Regular scoop is $4.75 and it's pretty large. Spacious store. Definitely going to come back again :) 4 stars because I was hoping for a bigger ice cream flavor selection and maybe some unique flavors.

Mariko K.

Yelp
Staff are friendly, the decor is nice, ice cream is pretty decent (they mostly have Umpqua, which is better than Tillamook IMHO). Has a fair amount of seating indoors and some benches outside. I was lured in by their Asteroid City promotion, which was a fun themed sundae topped off with starry sprinkles. A great neighborhood ice cream shop.

Ben C.

Yelp
Real ice cream, yes. Hard ice cream, no. When handed to, my scoop was already drooping and melting in the 60° evening. Wish I could have complimented the flavor but 'warm' and soft are hard to taste pass through. Had to lick it up quick to keep the drips from oozing down. Two employees noticed me while they were conversing and after finishing their chat one finally addressed the waiting customers. Unemotional face service was eh.

Juli N.

Yelp
Great experience! Looked for an authentic ice cream cake. Found Dairy Hill in Hillsdale. The website was easy to use. The choices were immense, and the service was superb. The cake was made on time and to my specifications. I highly recommend this company from start to finish.

Kim R.

Yelp
If you are in need of an ice cream cake I highly recommend Dairy Hill! The prices are cheaper than Baskin Robbins and they have a better selection of flavors. Mary the cakemaker was quick to respond to my emails and did a great job explaining all of my options. I told her what I was looking for (tropical colors for a luau party) and let her choose the design and I was so pleased with the results. The cake was as beautiful as it was delicious and it was a hit among my guests!

Riki Renee L.

Yelp
i worked with the 2 most delightful, problem solving (I needed a specific ice cream cake on short notice for my kiddos 10th birthday), amazing humans. The cake looks amazing and the taste was out of this world. The customer service couldn't have been better. They rescued the day, saved me tons of stress, time, and best of all made the birthday kid's day beyond special. This will be my go to destination for holidays, wedding cake recommendations, when my bestie needs a pick me up, or anytime I'm craving a treat! i cannot recommend them enough. The ice cream is stellar too!

Richard Z.

Yelp
The ice cream was very delicious and has a good balance of flavors. The arcade machine is free and the controls are, I'll let you figure that out. Beat my high score in pac man on the tenth page (4940) The person working there was very nice. Decoration was very roomy. 100% recommend.

Mariela D.

Yelp
This place is a jewel. We go weekly with out young children and get great ice cream in a wonderful, family friendly, environment. There is almost no line and there is not much hip as in salt and straw. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. We love this local business.

Madeline S.

Yelp
The employee in there Liam was such a delight!! He gave us wonderful customer service from the moment we came in!! Def will be coming back because of him! Great ice cream as well!

Aberdoodle S.

Yelp
Good clean and AC interior. The graphic design of the menus is top tier. However it was misleading today. They have a variety of house floats. Ice cream or sorbet with a soda. They all sounded delicious. I love cherry coke or Pepsi so I had to get that float. When one hears the words "cherry coke" the flavor is a regular cola plus cherry. However this was a black cherry flavored soda. Which is good but not what I ordered. So there is no cola profile or taste. And I am not a brand snob but it is Shasta soda. So not name brand if that is of any concern to you. Shasta does sell a cherry cola too!!

Hailey D.

Yelp
I went in and grabbed a pint of the chocolate brownie flavor and was pleasantly surprised by how creamy and well-mixed everything was together. I can't wait to use their rewards next time I go!

Amanda M.

Yelp
I'm impressed with the amount of flavors they have here. I thought one scoop would be tiny, but man it's big! The pistachio almond was delicious.

foodfoodfood f.

Yelp
Yummy dairy and dairyless ice cream, many types of cones (chocolate-coated cake cone with sprinkles, anyone?). The people who work here are so kind, too. We love being able to have ice cream on Hawthorne, especially with Ruby Jewel long gone.

Heather R.

Yelp
My mom and I enjoyed our visit to Dairy Hill Ice Cream. I got a regular scoop of cookie dough in a fancy waffle cone. The ice cream was delicious and had lots of big chunks of cookie dough in it. The waffle cone was delicious as well. The employees were nice and there is a diverse selection of flavors to choose from. I highly recommend going here.

M L.

Yelp
The silkiest richest ice cream we have found in Portland. To heck with Salt and Straw. I'd rather go here.

Diana H.

Yelp
I'm in love with this place! The owner is a Mets fan and is originally from the town next to mine! The Caramel Cold Brew was amazing and just what I needed! Hubby got the Salted Caramel Snickerdoodle which was also really good but mine was stellar! Highly recommended even if you're stuffed! GF and Dairy free options too!

Brian S.

Yelp
In a world full of chain ice cream places, this feels like a good, wholesome throwback to bygone days. Plus they have the little baseball helmets to get your ice cream in. Which is amazing.

Holly T.

Yelp
Like others have said, we're spoiled in Portland. This place looked good on Yelp and had great reviews. I cannot figure out why! Customer service sucked. I mean, not even a hello, how can I help you? It was awkwardly bad. Then, the flavors! They had enough choices, I guess. But exactly none appealed to me, which is fine. You can't please everybody. I ended up choosing a peanut butter chocolate one with Oreo cookies. The cookies were hard and tasted stale. It was hard to eat. There was barely a scoop of ice cream in there too. My husband got the espresso one. He also commented on the lack of ice cream in the sandwich. If you want good ice cream, don't go here. It just wasn't worth it. Plus, I heard it isn't even homemade, and that makes me sad.

Gaabriel B.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh, lots of good flavors, friendly service and a comfy place to sit and enjoy a treat. My kids, their friends and I love to go there.

Chip S.

Yelp
Best ice cream place ever never disappointed, the customer service is super amazing, nice helpful, pleasant every time. Highly recommend if you want to get your ice cream flavors in.

Jessica B.

Yelp
I'm lactose intolerant, but decided to get my sweet treat here anyway on National Ice Cream Day... ...and I'm so glad I did because I didn't get sick! It was totally worth it. I took any Yelper's advice to get the Canadian vanilla. It really is as good as he made it out to be! I got a scoop of the Canadian vanilla and pistachio almond. Mm mm mmm! No regrets! The flavors really pop in your mouth. The texture is creamy, but not TOO creamy. The chocolate waffle cone is just okay. Next time, I would just get the scoops in a cup or a regular waffle cone. Customer service was very sweet and efficient. My only other critique is the place could've used a couple more tables and chairs.

Marc M.

Yelp
I live near Dairy Hill and have enjoyed the ice cream for many years. The help was always friendly...until my experience with the owner. Dismissive, rude and very angry. Wouldn't answer any questions about the ice cream ("What you see is what you get."), and when I pointed out that the malt was only 3/4 full, he started screaming at me and throwing things around behind the counter. Serious anger management issues. I'm taking my ice cream business elsewhere.

Andrew H.

Yelp
When a neighborhood needs ice cream, the neighborhood gets ice cream. Not too long ago the local Baskin -Robbins that had been in the Hillsdale area for quite a long time closed down. Summer was coming along with the hot weather and in came Dairy Hill to fill the void. This is not a shop with fancy flavors, just good and simple Alpenrose ice cream and friendly people who do it right. The store just opened this past Friday and with the weather hitting the high temperatures it couldn't have been better. There was no grand opening, just the doors opened up and people have been streaming in ever since. I guess you can't get any better than that. My friends, who know the owners, have been to the shop four days straight. the prices are right and you can't beat a sweet treat in the high heat. They do ice cream sundaes and custom made ice cream sandwiches with either cookies, brownies, or rice krispie treats and all are gluten free. If you're down in this area you can stop by the pizza place a couple doors down and have a little dessert over here at Dairy Hill. Enjoy!

Yelp
UPDATE to review below: This visit was disappointing . Ordered online 7:05pm for door pick up that was given a time of 7:35pm. When I got into the store, the team working admitted that they had given my order away incorrectly. This is something they knew prior to me showing up for my order. But I had been standing outside waiting for my turn to walk in the store for my pick up. Mind you, there were 2 shakes, and a family of four who did not pre-order ahead of me so I was outside 15 to 20 mins. None of these were who got my order. I realize that mistakes happen. My issue is that they told me that I could wait as they made them now was too much. I watched one of them help the previous customers with shakes and their orders, while the other attendant switched out ice cream tubs. I feel they should have remade my order as a priority considering a paid customer was still going to arrive to pick up an order. I asked for a refund because to me this was handled incorrectly. I'm waiting on my refund. I ask for it to be processed and walked out since there were more people outside waiting. I waiting in the parking lot for an email confirming that I indeed had been refunded my $28 dollars. When the email had not come through, I called asking for it to be confirmed, I was told it was processing. Not sure what that means but we will see if it ever goes through. Two stars because I liked this place in previous visits. Ice cream was good. Pretty busy in the summers so they are pretty much going to need to crank though the customers. I recommend that they have a way to service those who pre-order. I was there 5 mins before my original pick up time, but had to wait through two different groups that ordered right then before I could try and pick up my non-existent order. Update: a minute after this review was posted I received a call from one of the associates at the ice cream shop. I received a genuine apology about the mistake and that my order was back at the store if I wanted to come pick it up. I went back but realizing that it was a return and shouldn't be redistributed due to covid and food safety, I bought a pint of ice cream instead. I appreciated the apology and the opportunity to talk it out. And increases the stars to 4 based on the follow up.

Yelp
Dairy Hill is a locally owned and operated, old fashioned ice cream shop. The ice cream is local from Alpenrose Dairy, 1 mile away off hwy 10. My favorite is the Rocky Road with a freshly made waffle cone. The owners are parents themselves, and live in, and are a active part of the community. The shop is a supporter of local schools and non-profits. They've run a few fundraisers for my kids co-op preschool. In terms of the shop itself, DH is sparkly clean, and has service with a smile. It's a happy place for kids, and adults alike. Check it out :). 2017 #1.

Scooter L.

Yelp
This shop is a little gem in Hillsdale. An old school ice cream parlor. I brought my daughter for a milk shake after she got her braces. She was so happy to get such a delicious ice cream treat after such a painful procedure. Thank you

Rachel D.

Yelp
Solid, neighborhood ice cream shop. It's not fancy like Salt & Straw or Ruby Jewel type places but it's your classic small store. They have a good selection of flavors of Umpqua and Alpenrose ice cream among the others. The servers have always been friendly when I've gone in and they let you sample the ice creams. They've got all the classic variations like (malt) milkshakes, sundaes, and even make your own ice cream sandwiches. Definitely would recommend this place if you're looking for some old fashioned ice cream treats.

Abby J.

Yelp
I love Dairy Hill. Whether you're vegan, gluten free, or even keep Kosher, there are ice creams for you. The ice cream flavors are classic and good, but the cones are the real star of the show. DH has gluten free ice cream cones, which are few and far between in my experience. Always an amazing summertime treat!

Savannah M.

Yelp
Great vegan choices!! Super friendly would come back. I got the lemon and raspberry sorbet a delicious mix. The prices are reasonable and a good amount for what you pay.

Chris L.

Yelp
As other reviewers have stated, we Portlanders are spoiled with some of the best ice cream places in the country. When we heard that Hillsboro was getting an ice cream shop, we had such high hopes but these were dashed when we visited and learned that they serve Umpqua and Alpenrose straight from the carton. And prices weren't cheap for what you could just pick up at the grocery store. I also was very disappointed in the flavors. Apart from the pralines & cream, nothing else even appealed to me. But that butter pecan - it was delicious and one of the best I've ever had! My wife had a strawberry flavor and felt that it was very ho-hum. While my wife has no desire to return, I would return again for the pralines & cream.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Local ice cream shop with fun and delicious flavors! Taste all you want then get a waffle cone (they make their own) and load up on the huge scoops here. Terrific selection for a small store, and friendly service.

Sari P.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious and comes in a variety of great flavors. I really like that they have non-dairy section and are certified Kosher, opening themselves to a whole other market. I always want to stop there

Jenn B.

Yelp
I love this neighborhood scoop shop. I like it better than Salt and Straw. The service is personal, they have specials for kids, and my son regularly stops by. Thank you for our replacement to Baskin Robbins!

Molly B.

Yelp
A cool treat on a hot day? A local place using a local dairy? Yes please!! We went to DH when temperatures were in the high 80's and it was amazing. This place couldn't have opened at a better time. Dairy Hill has already become a neighborhood name and we're excited to go there all summer long. Clean, cool and priced just right, with friendly staff! I can't wait to go back to try a custom ice cream sandwich. Welcome to the neighborhood, Dairy Hill!

Martha L.

Yelp
I went on line for an ice cream cake for my son's 12th birthday. The staff at Dairy Hill were so nice and amazing to work with. They made us a specialty cake for our son, since we were having a "Nerf War" party. The cake was beautiful and delicious! Thank you so much. Martha

Jacob D.

Yelp
Dairy Hill is the type of ice cream parlor you go to after a long day on the little league field. Your team got smoked by the kids who look like they shaved and rode their motorcycles to today's game. You went 0-3 and struck out three times. Not only that but your coach caught you picking the flowers in the outfield again. After the begrudging "Good game" high fives you end up at Dairy Hill with your teammates. Everyone gets their favorite scoop of ice cream in one of those mini baseball helmets with their favorite team's logo on it. Suddenly, frowns turn to smiles and silence turns to laughter. You start forgetting the game and everything is ok again. You may not have been the MVP of the game but your parents are the true MVPs for taking you to Dairy Hill.

Elsie H.

Yelp
So good!!! I love ice cream and am always looking for a yummy cookies and cream (No, not all are created equal)! Great taste and will definitely be back if I am in town.

Minh 5.

Yelp
Great customer service from beginning to end. I ordered the chocolate chip ice cream cake large sheet. It was delicious, not too sweet and the cake was moist. Thank you to Mary the baker for the detailed attention given and the young fellow who took my order, thanks for caring, it shows.

Kelly H.

Yelp
Fun stop on our way to Portland. Yummy milkshakes and a nice selection of ice creams to choose from. Super nice staff.

Ethan B.

Yelp
Exactly what you'd expect of an ice cream shop, with one big exception. The prices are actually reasonable. The shakes are good (and the sizes are huge). The selection is mostly alpenrose and some Umpqua. There are some good vegan options as well as some rather hard to find flavors. I'd definitely recommend this place over coldstone or Ben and Jerry's

Shayna R.

Yelp
Looooove this local ice cream shop! My favorite is the cotton candy! Definitely recommend if you are looking for something besides the traditional baskin robbins.

Brenda S.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream!!! Definitely recommend. I had a scoop of pistachio almond and a scoop of praline caramel too! Yummy.

Haroun K.

Yelp
The only thing you need to know is that they have a flavor called "Canadian vanilla," with (purportedly) 12% butter fat. And it tastes just like real Canadian ice cream, which is the best ice cream in the world. If only they had more "Canadian" flavors... Besides the holy grail, they also have a great variety of other flavors, such as peanut butter fudge, blue bubblegum, and even some dairy-free flavors. $3 a scoop, I believe. Unlimited samples. Ample parking.

Justice R.

Yelp
Kyle is the best! This is my go to ice cream shop on my way home from work! Service is amazing the staff is amazing and it's an warm place for family and friends to get together

Ian F.

Yelp
Our favorite ice cream shop in town!! Always fresh and service is awesomely consistent. I recommend this place to anyone looking for some great sweets!
