I think there's a lot of cool stuff happening here, but a Sunday afternoon is not the time to visit. The food selections were varied and plentiful, but every place had either no one standing out front when it was open, or only 2 people working. It felt slow and sleepy which are sometimes the vibe, but not what I'm looking to get out of a food hall. We ate at Maizal and the food was good, although dripping with oil.

Busy food court with lively vibe. We tried the pasta place and the pizza place. The special pasta was outstanding. The service was very nice and prompt. The ranch bacon chicken calzone was also amazing. Nice ice cream place too

A unique venue for eating, drinking, shopping, and exercising! Hours of some establishments may be less than the Dairy Market itself, so check individual sites for hours.

Absolutely loved the food and the options here! We'll definitely be back again very soon. Highly recommend if you have a group who all wants something different.

Went here to see the inside of where my Dad worked for 20 years. Pretty cool what they have done inside. Lots of food options. Very clean inside including the restrooms. I will be back soon to try some of the food options

Google
Interesting food court. Clean and spacious, with several diverse and non-chain food choices. Lots of families with free-range small children running around. One little tot went to the ice cream pick up spot each time someone was waiting for ice cream. Made me wonder if the tactic ever worked for the child. We did not find the food "great" - but it was a nice rest stop. Restrooms are way in the back corner, but were clean.

Awesome food awesome service great selection we come every time we visit.

Let me start off by saying the atmosphere is awesome! Now let’s get to some of the restaurants. We went to the Jamaican restaurant. The food was very unseasoned, but service was excellent. We also went to citizens Burger, where we placed an order and waited for it to be cooked, while waiting for our order, we saw the cook eating something while he was preparing our food. I have tried to contact the restaurant through email and their website to no avail. No one has responded. We also went to the pizza place where an employee was eating while preparing spinach for the pizzas right in front of everyone. I did contact that restaurant, who in fact responded immediately and asked if I had a picture in which case I did and I sent it to them, I never heard back from them after I sent the Picture. There is also a bar in this establishment where the person did not know how to make a long island and put almost half soda in the drink when it’s supposed to be a splash and was going to charge $16. There is no way someone would pay $16 for half a glass of alcohol and the rest soda I hope. You never know when a health inspector will come through and see the actions of the employees of these Restaurants. A week later, we tried to give citizen, burger, another try, and the bun was burnt. If you zoom in on the second picture, you will see it’s either a calzone or a slice of pizza that the employee was eating while prepping the spinach.

Yelp
This is one of the best ice creams I ever had! We tired cookies & cream and cake batter in a waffle bowl. Perfect creaminess and sweetness. Can't wait to try other flavors next time. They have a daily special flavor, today's was apple pie. Service was super fast!
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
One of the best ice cream I've ever had ever! You need to stop by if you like cream. It's creamy, cones are solid, and the amount's generous

Yelp
I ate the best ice cream bite of my life today in Charlottesville VA. We were brought here by our dear nieces whom we were visiting who claimed this was the BEST ice cream in CVille. They did not mention this was the best ice cream in the world. We got the vanilla chocolate chip in a waffle cone called something else. The vanilla was so incredibly fresh and flavorful, creamy and delicious!! It brought vanilla to another level! There are delicious, chunky, flavorful, high-quality chocolate chips. The homemade waffle cone was delicious as well. The service was warm and welcoming! The ambiance was lovely, the ice cream shop centered in a modern funky loft space wherein was an international food court with multiple delicious food options reminiscent of similar spaces in manhattan or brooklyn

Yelp
Consistent and solid ice cream spot. Our team came here 3 nights in a row and they never missed a beat. Great waffle cones and a good array of flavors. I love their dark chocolate because it is so rich. Workers were nice and very efficient as well.

Joe B.

Yelp
Never have I been so disappointed by such great ice cream. The ice cream was excellent, but the experience was dreadful. Ordered a scoop of cookies n cream in a cone, and was given a small scoop of ice cream plopped on top of a completely hollow cone (see pic). To be able to see the bottom of the cone before you even take a lick is just wrong. And the servers were completely non-responsive when I pointed this out! Will be taking my business to Chaps next time :)

Yelp
We visited here while visiting Charlottesville for a team game. With our large party, they served us fast and efficiently. The ice cream was flavorful and very creamy. The flavors and toppings weren't anything extravagant/extraordinary. If you are looking for specialty flavors or options, I wouldn't recommend, but if you are looking for a creamy traditional ice cream shop, this one is for you and does the job while being located in a really neat market place!
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
Great ice cream. Fast service. Service was friendly. Add a peanut butter selection though... Delish!
google avatar

Melanie T.

Yelp
One of the creamiest ice cream I've ever had! I got the Holstein flavor and wish I was able to stop by again. Definitely was one of the highlights of my first Charlottesville visit!
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Fresh made ice cream and you can taste the difference! They have some special flavors for valentine's day right now too!! Great place to go with family.
google avatar

Cassie M.

Yelp
The dairy mart itself is a wonderful concept! The moo thru itself wasn't anything special. I saw pictures of their red velvet flavor but unfortunately they didn't have anything too unique. And I was especially disappointed that they didn't let you sample any of the flavors. Also, when we first got there, the credit card machine was down so it added to the wait as none of us had cash. I ultimately choose the cookie dough flavor but it simply didn't stand out compared to other brands I've had at the store.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for an after dinner ice cream treat and got a cookies & cream sundae. Ice cream was as great as always and the hot fudge on it was really tasty. Service from the cashier was decent, but the nasty look on the face (and attitude to match) of the lady making and giving out the ice cream definitely wasn't necessary. They were moderately busy, but took care of reducing the line rather nicely.

Yelp
FOOD We ordered the cookies and cream and strawberry single scoops on a cake cone and cup respectively. It was $3.25 per scoop and the amount given was well worth the price. I will say that the scoops given on the cone were a little larger than in the cone, so if you're craving a little more ice cream, a cone might be the way to go. It was sweet and creamy, and a great overall treat. SERVICE The hours on Google don't align with the actual hours, at least on the day we went. We came in on a Saturday after 11 am, but the shop wasn't open until 12/12:30. LOCATION + PARKING Moo Thru is located within Dairy Market and they also have another location about an hour away. They offer a wide variety of classic flavors (e.g. vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Holstein, cookie dough) and seasonal flavors as well.
google avatar

Camryn K.

Yelp
I absolutely love Moo Thru! I almost always get the cookie dough in a cup when I come here, and it is the best cookie dough ice cream I have ever had. The ice cream is super smooth, not too sweet, and very milky tasting. It tastes very high quality. The only complaint that I have is that it is a little pricey for a single scoop cup.
google avatar

Justin N.

Yelp
I love Moo Thru! Every flavor that I've tried is solid. Their ice cream is creamy, fresh, and consistently good. I also love that its handcrafted and slow churned by dairy farmers in Virginia. Mint Chocolate Chip is my favorite ice cream flavor of all time. And their take on the flavor is great. The ice cream was creamy, and the chocolate chips were the perfect size in my opinion-- not too big but not too small or oddly shaped either. Overall, Moo Thru is consistent and has creamy ice cream. The cups are also reasonably priced-- under four dollars for a "small" cup that's packed with ice cream and almost triple the portion size of a small cup at other big ice cream places. Moo Thru has become a must-visit for me whenever I'm at the Dairy Market. And I can't wait to go back and try a milkshake.

Brittany Anne O.

Yelp
I love Moo Thru and have stopped by the original location (outside of Cville) on the drive down from DC, many times! This location is small and located within a larger food court at Dairy Market. The first thing you notice when you walk into the food court is the smell of waffle cones -- YUM. STOP. (DONT STOP.) I knew what I wanted before I even ordered -- a scoop of Holstein. If you're not familiar with cows, Holsteins are black and white, and beautiful! This ice cream is a nod towards the animal: vanilla ice cream with big chunks of semi-sweet chocolate. As always, the ice cream did not disappoint. It was smooth, creamy and not melty at all (even in 95 degree weather!) The employees were friendly and efficient. Unlike at the original location-- this location has ample seating available and air conditioning. Win, win!
google avatar

Lindsey V.

Yelp
As an ice cream fanatic, this place has my stamp of approval. I only gave 4 stars because it's a little pricey (especially if you like to add toppings), but the quality of the ice cream is 5 stars! I always get chocolate and dark chocolate with a few toppings and it's amazing! I can tell their other flavors would be good because the chocolates are very flavorful, so I assume the same goes for the rest. They also offer unique toppings such as the marshmallow cream and raspberry syrup. Just be warned, the line can get long sometimes! If you love ice cream, it'll be worth it.
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
We finally have a great, local ice cream place in Charlottesville!! The ice cream is just excellent. Sweet, creamy, and a fun variety of flavors. The Holstein has huge chunks of chocolate, its delicious! You can even take a couple scoops over to Eleva -- the coffee shop beside this at the Dairy Market -- and get an affogato! Super fun, great ice cream, really fast. Must stop!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
It's ice cream. It's delicious. There are now two places to get it- at dairy market in Cville and in Remington VA at their original stand. The portions are enormous and worthy of the price. It's special. I highly recommend a visit.
google avatar

Loren M.

Yelp
If you are craving a banana split, this is pretty much the only place to go (literally hah). I looked all over Charlottesville and only found Moo thru does banana splits. The place is located pretty much right when you walk into dairy market. Don't be surprised if there is a bit of a line... you know because the ice cream is great They have a good selection of ice cream, including occasional "special flavors." I'm not sure if they have dairy free "ice cream," but think they should definitely think about implementing it! If you are looking for banana splits, or just good ice cream... definitely the place to go.
google avatar

Jennie A.

Yelp
This was the best ice cream I've had in years! It was extremely creamy and full of flavor. Would recommend any flavor!
google avatar

Yelp
MUST STOP ON YOUR WAY TO CHARLOTTESVILLE, for all the Hoos and visitors out there. They are just simply the best best best - creamiest, exploding flavor, and just creative menu. I used to get the flavor of the day every time I stop by to try out a new flavor each time, but hands down the best flavors are blackberry and coffee. Love them so much!
google avatar

Yvonne Z.

Yelp
What did we order: cookies and cream ice cream, mint chocolate chip ice cream and coffee ice cream shake. Smells: dairy, creamy and milky. Visual appeal: cow galore! Food quality: top notch, high quality 'farm to table' style ice cream, whereby they use the milk from their own cows that they breed. Other comments: can buy pints, flash freeze and take home to store in freezer.

Yelp
I've never had the chance to visit the actual Moo Thru location on 29, so hearing that they were coming to the Dairy Market was great news! The Dairy Market itself is in a really great space and there is so much room for social distancing. Moo Thru is in the front, so it was easy to spot. I ended up getting a double of Mint Chocolate Chip and Cookie Dough - the Mint Chocolate Chip is AMAZING. The Cookie Dough was pretty good too, but I'll definitely be getting the Mint Choco Chip again. They have rotating daily/weekly flavors which are pretty interesting, such as Red Velvet or White Chocolate Raspberry. I tried the Red Velvet and it was very unique! Also, their portions are huge so make sure you are ready before getting more than one scoop.

Cathy B.

Yelp
Excellent quality ice cream from local dairies, and sorbet. About 20 classic flavors. The waffle cone double scoop was about 8 bucks but almost had a pint of cream on it, more than enough to share. The pavilion outside has plenty of tables with umbrellas, and flowers. Enjoyed going outside and watching the world go by with our cones.
google avatar

Caroline F.

Yelp
Update: tried the strawberry cheesecake and red velvet (two specials). The red velvet was a little icy, but if fixed it has the potential to be a very good flavor. The strawberry cheesecake on the other hand was excellent- creamy and lots of bites of cheesecake! My friends and I have been several times now and specials seem to be hit or miss, but most classics like blackberry and coffee are very good.

Yelp
Best place to hit the Cville Dairy Market, woo! I have seen their drive-by location to and from D.C. a zillion times, but never had the time or heart to stop. Boy, was I missing out on some incredible ice cream. Hindsight is 20/20. When I saw Moo Thru coming to Cville, I had to give them a try. Worth all my money and then some! I ordered banana ice cream in a cup and cookie dough ice cream in a waffle cone. Mind you, the flavors are incredible, but the best part is the sweet, cinnamon taste of that waffle cone. Yummy. Do me a favor and check them out ASAP

Matt S.

Yelp
The freshest ice cream ever. Coffee flavour is subtle yet flavourful. Chocolate chip cookie dough had the right proportion of ice cream to dough pieces. And the chocolate pieces in the Holstein flavour were high quality. And did I mention how fresh this tasted? Send this stuff up over the border, please!

Susan S.

Yelp
Don't miss it! 2 scoops is enough for 2 people to share unless you have a lot of room for dessert! Had dark chocolate with vanilla ice cream and cherries great combination because the chocolate is very rich like a Belgium chocolate. The vanilla has flecks of bean in it, creamy delicious! Dog friendly patio with large dog dish

Angel C.

Yelp
Check out girl was rude and ice cream is just ok. You cannot taste before you order like most ice cream places so if u don't like it your out of luck. Waffle Cone is fresh so thats s plus but nothing makes up for rude customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
So happy Moo Thru is now here! Now I don't have to drive so far to Remington! This coffee ice cream sundae gave me so much life!! Excited to come back!

Jimmy V.

Yelp
There was this boy workin the register who 14 a joy to to talk to. he seemed about 15 years old and his joy and love for ice cream was unmatched with his co workers. he recommended me a brownie Sunday with cinnamon and it was the best 10 out of 10. If you have the pleasure of talking with this boy then you will understand what I mean. No other workers there had the passion of this boy for ice cream.
google avatar

Andy N.

Yelp
Ice cream was incredibly thick and creamy! I am always down for ice cream and this place never disappoints. It always satisfies all my cravings and more. However, the service was a bit lackluster. But if you ever want phenomenal ice cream, this is the place to go!
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
Moo Thru is the best ice cream you can get around charlottesville. Serving size are really huge and works best if you get it with a waffle cone. Two scoops is enough for two people. Their flavors are really good and you can never go wrong with any one of them. They also have a branch outside Charlottesville which is their original branch. This one doesn't have the soft serve though however we haven't tried that one yet. We would love to come back.

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Waited on line for AT LEAST 5 minutes. A young blonde worker came up to my family (only 5 people... not a huge party!) and said extremely rudely that the party in front of us were the last customers. She angrily slammed the closed sign down in front of us without looking at any of us and stormed off when there wasn't a single person behind us. I've never left a review before but have NEVER been treated this way by an employee before. Will never be coming back here again.

Yelp
I was very excited to hear about moo thru coming to the dairy market in cville as I always seem to be passing the location on 29 when they're not open. First of all, good location and great to have a dedicated ice cream parlor in town (why do there seem to be so few ?) Secondly, all the ice cream we tried was tasty, especially my husband's coffee ice cream. My banana cake cone was good but I was hoping for real banana ice cream made with real bananas, and this was not that, it's just artificial banana flavor; still good if you like that but I won't get again. The main issue I have is that my kid got chocolate ice cream and my husband with a nut allergy only sampled a spoon or two of it but after eating it he became violently sick the whole way home, so we realized there must have been some nut contamination. It baffled us as we read no signage saying any of the three flavors we got were nutty. My husband reached out and was told point blank "yes the chocolate contains hazelnuts." So that's the first issue: it's not hard to add a small asterisk or sign on your flavor board or somewhere to notify customers of "hidden" allergens. Second issue: the response my husband got was that if he had mentioned his allergy, the staff would have "told him which flavors to avoid and followed allergy protocol" which is good to know they have protocol, however my husband is 35 years old and we've eaten ice cream out many times and he has never had an issue ordering any "no nut" flavors in the past, and never has to mention his allergy because he has found flavors have always been labeled if they contain a nut not obvious from flavor title. I don't understand why moo thru can't make that very simple, seemingly obvious change. And why their customer service wasn't a bit more understanding when our issue was raised politely? Luckily my husband only had a small taste of the hazelnut chocolate otherwise he may have been much worse off. Still, he lost all his ice cream and dinner and it definitely was a buzzkill to our night. Overall, fine ice cream, cool location; less than impressive customer service and folks with allergies beware. I would recommend moo thru to others still but because of our personal experience I'm unfortunately not sure if we'll return.

Aquilla J.

Yelp
Came in w/ a big group (30 people). We called before hand and gave a heads up. One person in the group had an issue w/ their order and only tasted the original cup of ice cream and asked one of the scoopers if they could trade for a plain scoop of ice cream. The other scooper (Hannah) jumped in and rudely said that because that was what was ordered she can't change it. We spent 200$ there and she wouldn't even listen to what was wrong with the order and try to accommodate one scoop of ice cream.

Julie G.

Yelp
Decided to get some ice cream after dinner while staying overnight in Charlottesville. It is a tad difficult to find if you're not from the area, but it's in the Dairy Market and you have to pay for parking. They have indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor tables a tad wobbly and need to be fixed. Walking in to the building smelled like fresh waffle cones!! My whole family ordered mint chocolate chip and were not disappointed. The ice cream had great flavor and was very creamy. The prices weren't bad either for the amount you get. Warning: a DOUBLE is a lot more than your normal ice cream place gives you. Would definitely go back if ever in the area again!
google avatar

Priscilla S.

Yelp
Perfect for a hot, summer day! I had the Holstein ice cream and it had such a different flavor from what you would get at the typical, big chain ice cream shops. Their unique flavors were incredible. You also get a LOT of ice cream for what you pay! I deducted one start because there seemed to be a lack of organization and efficiency; perhaps because I visited Moo Thru during peak hours on a hot, Saturday afternoon, but there's room for improvement on the staff side. Would still recommend if you're in the Charlottesville area!
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream at reasonable prices with a good selection of flavors. I would highly recommend Moo Thru for your ice cream needs and I'm glad I don't have to drive up 29 to get Moo Thru anymore!
google avatar

Jessalyn L.

Yelp
This is basically located in a little foodcourt near campus. We made the mistake of going on a hot Saturday night 30 minutes before closing, so it was definitely packed with a line. But, it's a cute little place and the ice cream is above average. I would avoid busy times in the future.
google avatar

K. Anand S.

Yelp
Went Friday evening with family. There was a long line wrapping around the place. Well, after eating the mediocre ice cream, I can say the place is overrated not worth the wait or money. We tried moundz (so so), dark chocolate (tasted like tooth paste, chemical like), cookie dough (this was fine).
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
Really, really good ice cream. Fresh from the Udder. A bit expensive, but worth it. Beautifully repurposed space that has other food options and a chill vibe. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Aydin K.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream. Worth the wait if line is long. We had coffee and cookie dough - both too quality.
google avatar

T. S.

Yelp
Flavorful and creamy ice cream at the Dairy Market. Unfortunately they ran out of mint chip so I had Holstein which is vanilla with rich dark chocolate chips and it was excellent. My wife and son also loved their dark chocolate ice cream and my daughter loved her cookies and cream which had big chunks of Oreo inside. Highly recommend on a visit to Charlottesville.

Aleeza L.

Yelp
Now I love ice cream, so let me start by saying that the ice cream is pretty decent and any ice cream lover will be satisfied. Additionally, the single scope serving is pretty generous and I was happy with the amount of ice cream I received. That said--both my guest and I got a decent (tasting spoon size) amount of ice cream flavors other than those we ordered. She got the blackberry and additionally had a portion of raspberry sorbet, I got the moundz which had a portion of mint chocolate chip. Now, I do not enjoy mint flavoring so it interfered with my ice cream eating experience. I also think the ice cream itself was a little icy for my taste and for the price as well as the flavor selection was somewhat lacking. The location in the diary market provides a nice ambiance with places to sit, however it would've been nice for there to be a little water station at the ice cream booth. All in all it was pretty decent ice cream, I really enjoyed my flavor but the consistency and quality was just decent, which, hey, it's still ice cream so it's great!

Frank H.

Yelp
It's 8:45 pm. This place closes at 9 pm. There are 5 people in front of me in line. One of their employees stood at the back of the line of 5, and as I tried to join the line in the 6th spot, she said, "Sorry, we're closed after these 5." I asked her "y'all close at 9, right?" She confirm that my understanding was correct. I looked at the 5 people in front of me and then back at her, incredulously, I said "okay then, thanks," and I walked away. This was absolutely ridiculous. What kind of a business turns away customers who show up during operational hours on the flimsy basis that it won't make it through 6 customers in 15 minutes? If you're there before 9 pm, you should be served. This place has lost my business permanently going forward, and I will be sure to go out of my way to tell everyone I know about the shoddy service I received here today. I could have gotten better service from McDonald's employees -- what a joke.
google avatar

Resh S.

Yelp
Just give it a try and you will not drive by this place without stopping next time! No overly fancy flavors, but any you try will be memorable.
google avatar

Ariel W.

Yelp
First time trying this establishment at the Dairy Market. I got a double scoop of mint chocolate chip and blackberry in a waffle cone. It was quite large! The mint chocolate chip was not very minty or chocolaty, and I have had better. I found the blackberry too sweet with not many berry chunks. The texture of the ice cream and the waffle cone was very good though. My partner got a root beer float which was tasty.

Tara R.

Yelp
Really nice ice cream place on the way to UVA! Love the many flavor options especially the banana! Miss coming here occasionally

L F.

Yelp
We were expecting the price but the quality just was not there. The price needs to be about half to match the quality of ice cream.
