Ducks Eatery Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"We ended up at Ducks Eatery a while back after reading all kinds of business on the internet about how amazing their chicken wings are. After a few visits, we are ready to report back that a) the chicken wings aren't that good, and b) we have absolutely no idea what is going on at this place. This "restaurant" (it's really more of a bar with a small menu) is so random that here's how our first visit went down. We popped into Ducks on a Wednesday night for some wings, and ended up eating home made beef jerky, St. Louis Ribs, some trail mix (?), a bite or two of brisket, a giant bowl of mystery noodle soup, and exactly zero wings. Why? Because we had to throw in the towel before the wings arrived. By that point there was a vicious sectarian battle between rival spices raging inside our stomachs, and we were too confused by what we had just eaten to carry on. A second visit dedicated to wing consumption was also unsuccessful. The hickory smoked jerk chicken has way too much rub on it, and the wings are huge like they came off of a condor. No thanks. For some reason, everything in this place is so over spiced, over smoked, and overthought that none of it works. The beef jerky has squid ink on it. Why? If it's wings you're after, do yourself a favor and hit Pok Pok or Pork Slope. If you're looking for some BBQ, get out to Fette Sau. We don't really know what to tell you to come to Ducks Eatery for...except maybe to have a drink and some trail mix. Or you could just go camping. Chicken Wings As we mentioned before, these wings are too big, too hard to eat, and way too heavy on the jerk seasoning. A little restraint would go a long way. So would a smaller chicken.Beef Jerky Another menu item that's really more of a bar snack, this beef jerky has been cured in squid ink, which does...something. Maybe it makes it darker. It certainly doesn't make it taste much different than the rest of the beef jerky that we've eaten over the years.Yakamein This vaguely Asian noodle soup is apparently popular in New Orleans, and our waitress insisted that we order it. It looked a lot like ramen, but had more of a lime/lemongrass flavor to the broth. It was probably the best thing we ate at Ducks, but we wouldn't order it again.St. Louis Ribs These were big, dry ribs that tasted like they spent too much time in the smoker. Go eat ribs somewhere else.Brisket This is definitely our highlight from the menu at Ducks. Probably because it was well cooked and properly seasoned. It seems to be a limited menu item, so if you're there, ask about it. Food Rundown Dee's Nuts Yes, that's the name for the trail mix here, which consists of cashews, bacon, dried cherries, and Cocoa Crispies. All the dudes from your fraternity will definitely think it's awesome. Maybe have some right before you butt chug a drink or two." - Chris Stang

My husband and I were in town for my annual Smart Set convention. We found this place on the last day of our visit to New Orleans. I wish I had gone here earlier because I would’ve been eating here almost every day. I ordered the black and fish and gumbo in both of them were very good. I also got a side of grits! Let me tell you about those damn grits! They were perfectly cooked! Our server was fantastic and the atmosphere here is very cozy with beautiful artwork on the walls! The only thing I did not like is that the fish was swai instead of red fish or catfish. I’m not a big fan of swai fish but the flavor and the seasoning were good. My husband had the seafood omelette and he absolutely adored it! I would totally recommend this place, especially for breakfast.

This place was so good The food? Chef's kiss. The vibe? Awesome. We had Lisa as a server/hostess and she was absolutely amazing! I wish she could have sat down with us and helped celebrate our besties weekend! Thank you Lisa! If I could give more thank 5 stars, I would!

Had breakfast here and really enjoyed the whole experience. The place has a relaxed, classic New Orleans vibe with friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere. I ordered the seafood omelette with hash browns and toast, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. A great spot to start the morning, especially if you want something hearty without feeling too heavy.

We had a fantastic brunch here and our server: Nora was FABULOUS! She brought out a sauce for my seafood omelette that enhanced the flavor sooo much! It was not asked of her, she just thought I would like it and I would say, it made it better! Great place!!

Staff were very attentive and kept my coffee full. I went with the Alligator sausage omelette with creamy cheesy grits and toast. The alligator sausage was mild with a hidden hint of heat. Definitely a great place to grab breakfast.

We had Megan as our server and she was great! We had quite a large group and she was attentive to our orders. She’s amazing and I hope the restaurant recognizes that! I had the shrimp and grits. The grits were very buttery and delicious! The shrimp was also seasoned perfectly and it meshed with the greats so well! Def would come back here!

Excellent breakfast option close to the Canal street and vicinity hotels. Their service is top notch. Very attentive staff. We ordered the regular 2 egg breakfast, Cajun Omelette and beignet. Everything was great.

This was our first stop for breakfast. Our flight landed early and this location drew us in because of the time it opened 7 am. We were seated right away and were able to get out food just as fast. Our server Pamela was super friendly and very solicitous, checking in on us a few times. The food is fabulous, I got chicken and waffles and the Daisy Duke's hot sauce is so good 😊. My sister got the shrimp and grits and loved it too. The grits were so yummy.

The bartender, Jojo, made this such an enjoyable happy hour. She was personable, attentive, and even polite to the homeless people who kept coming in the restaurant. While you are there get some pancakes thank me later. It was clean and staff were consistently spraying and wiping the tables to ensure consistent cleanliness. The mural on the wall was beautiful.

Let me begin by saying I didn't "dislike" the place but there wasn't anything special for me. I ordered the Country Fried Steak breakfast meal with a side of Alligator Sausage. The country fried steak was very thin and mostly breading. The gravy was okay, the hash browns were only good on the outside, inside was basically mashed potatoes and the eggs were simple scrambled eggs. It was pretty busy for a Thursday morning but we didn't wait long for table or for service. I was offered a to-go cup of coffee which was a nice gesture. Overall the place wasn't super loud or fancy but just right. Good for a slow morning breakfast for some generic food.

Second time here this location. My order was not as good as last time we ate here. The quality of the meal seemed to drop since our last visit. Ok, let's go. My eggs seemed very dry. My hash browns were definitely over cooked and crunchy dry. The biscuit was ok. My GF like the shrimp po boy was good and I had the gumbo and it to was good. The ambience was on the darker side with a good ole New Orleans flare style paintings on the walls. Our waitress was very nice and informative. She knew the menu (17 years there). She was nice to all the tables she went to. I'm on the WALL on this one guys. Our first time visit the food was great this trip the food was Nor here, Nor there. Our New Orleans tour guide spoke about a lot of the original Bourbon St / French Quarters restaurants have been sold to new owners and kept names. Tourists don't know difference (ie Cafe Du Monde all new owners except the main park location- original owner per guide). I will try one more time. Stay tuned to see how it ends... Tried this restaurant on my trip to New Orleans. The food is delicious out here. We had chicken & waffles and Homemade Pancakes which were tasty. Our server Lisa was super polite, attentive and warm. The ambiance was chill. I would definitely recommend this place!

We had breakfast here during our first morning in New Orleans. The exterior is unassuming, while the inside is what I would call rustic casual. This can be a busy place, but we didn't really find it crowded. Our table and kitchen service was spot on and our food was tasty and in relatively big portions. Here's what we enjoyed: - Gayle: Shrimp and Grits and a Bloody Mary and Coffee. My dear Wife is pleased that Nawlins breakfast places all seem to have a bar. She also makes a healthier Shrimp and Grits at home, but here in NOLA, what would be the point in that? - David: French Toast and Orange Juice - Eric: Plain Jane Omelet (with Bacon), with a Biscuit, Fresh Fruit, Coffee and Orange Juice. For what we were served and the price, this first breakfast excursion was a good value.

This is the one place in Nawleans that I repeatedly go back to when in town. This is a no frills place, with decent prices and good, solid food. Most of the dishes I have had there have been good and repeat orders for me. I love their green fried tomatoes and try to eat as many of them as possible before heading back to Chicago. I noticed that the number of slices had been reduced from the last time I was there. But, the number that were on the plate was more than I would get at a restaurant in Chicago and for twice the price. Gator Po Boy and Chicken Finger Basket (served with Cajun fries & biscuit) are my go to sandwiches. The Gator Po Boy was sausage with good flavor and was quite tasty with the fries and bubbles. Those biscuits are great and make a nice addition to the chicken tenders, which ended up going back with me as I could not finish it all. There is plenty of food for any dish, so you will not leave hungry. The Country Fried Steak w/ Gravy (served with 2 eggs your way, hash browns or grits & toast or biscuit) is another solid meal. Gravy is nice and smooth, with good flavor. I would say this is a rib sticking breakfast and a good one if you are planning to do tours or walk around....it will hold you well pass lunch. Another reason I like this joint is that they have bubbles. Funny side story, we had already been here 3 times and had the same server, Nora, who was adorable. I always ordered prosecco with my meals. Fast forward on the day we went and she wasn't working. The gentleman waiting on us promptly told me that they did not have prosecco and I respectfully disagreed with him as I told him I had been in here three times already that week and had ordered it. He went to check, then came back to tell me that they had champagne, not prosecco. Just for the record, ain't nobody serving $8 big glasses of champagne, but whatever you want to call it Boo Boo, I am drinking it :-) If you are a Bloody Mary person, they have bottomless ones for $15. Our friend loved them, so that worked for him. As I said, this is a no frills place with good solid eats, but come early as they get crowded real quick. Although they use to stay open late, they now close at 2 pm, so it is definitely a breakfast and lunch spot. Unless they closed down before I return to Nawleans, I will be back.

My visit was a nice surprise. I was dining solo so I didn't have to wait for a table. My waitress was so nice (I didn't grab her name). The cafe was crowded and loud, but since I was alone, I didn't have to shout across the table for conversation. I ordered the po'boy and gumbo combo. Listen when I say this....The gumbo was slap! It had the perfect amount of spices which such bold flavors. The bread on the po'boy was soft and buttery. The shrimp was well seasoned and fried perfectly. I decided to go with a classic lemon drop, which wasn't lacking anything. I'm happy with my visit and I would recommend it to you if you're considering visiting.

Hey Now, I had a taste god a good New Orleans Breakfast and 'the place to be' was Daisy Duke's. It had two other locations in the New Orleans area, but one is closed. They close at 2:00pm & are pretty much always crowded so get in early. I had a 25-30 minute wait, but ended up waiting not even a minute before a table became available. Yoooo Hoooo! I had THE Sweetest server ever & the other employees were very friendly & hospitable as well. This kind of treatment/service made my dining experience so much more enjoyable. I was impressed by the knowledge of my server of the menu as well as everything about the food. The ambiance was cool. It was Uber crowded, but a nice crowd which was managed well. The server brought out a complimentary cup of spicy seafood gumbo & shortly after my breakfast arrived. The gumbo was 'THE Best' I've had in NOLA & is made in-house. Absolutely 'FIRE' in a good way. My traditional fried eggs, bacon, French toast topped with fruit, sausage, homemade biscuit & Gouda creamy grits were just as delicious. The southern twang in the grits is second to none. I thoroughly enjoyed everything & would highly recommend going to the location in the French Quarters next time you're in the NOLA area.

We were looking for a breakfast place during our recent trip to New Orleans and chose Daisy Dukes based on their reviews. Let me tell you they didn't disappoint not only was the service awesome (they truly work together as a team to serve their customers) but the food was amazing! My son had their egg breakfast (eggs, sausage, hash browns, and toast) , my daughter had their pancakes with bacon, my husband had their Cajun omelette, and I had their biscuits and gravy everything was so good! Their biscuits wow best I've ever had. We already decided to have breakfast there again tomorrow!

This is a very typical cheap dinner, but it's good food and no fuss. I got the meat lovers omelette and it was stuffed with meat, duh. It usually has a line, so expect a wait upwards of 15 min even on Thanksgiving, usually it's probably 30+ min wait.

I came into Daisy Dukes one morning during a business trip to New Orleans. They have this really nice early bird breakfast special that I wanted to take advantage of. Seating around 830AM was quick. I had a small little table. Service was quick and friendly. The early bird special consisted of sausage or bacon, eggs, hash browns, a biscuit, and pancakes. Everything was okay except for the biscuit which was really tasty. This spot had the bar busy in the morning and folks were already drinking some cocktails. They looked tasty but I was of course working. This is a nice spot. I don't think the early bird special is something I would order again, but they had a lot of other items that may be tastier.

This is a great little gem in NO off of Canal st in the Quarter. Have been coming here for many visits over the years every time I visit NO. I love the Breakfast here. The ambiance is quaint, the service is excellent and the prices are quite reasonable compared to other restaurants in the French Quarter. Highly recommend eating here.

We came here for breakfast because we had eaten at the place next door, and it was wonderful. This was also not too far from our hotel, so we gave it a try. First off, I always order a bloody mary for breakfast. I thought I'd be impressed because they bottle their own mix. They really should stop bottling this, it's nothing but pepper. No spice to it or much flavor. But at $15 for all you can drink, it's not a bad price but make a better bloody. On to breakfast. Hubby orders eggs, sausage, and grits. They were pretty good. The eggs were done just right. I, on the other hand, had a slight hangover and needed grease, so I ordered a burger. I like my burger medium rare. I'm not totally mad when it comes out medium, but well done? It was horrible. The waitress (who was very nice) asked if I wanted a new one, but we waited over 1/2 hour for the original one, so no thanks. Hubby gave me half his breakfast. When the bill came, the burger was on there even though I'd only taken a bite out of it. I was told you ordered it. WTH???? Never again to this place. There are too many places to eat in NOLA.

Food came out pipping hot in under five minutes. I used their own hot sauce and loved it! Another hole in wall place that I can't wait to get back to!

Service: not awful Ambiance: solid Food: serving frozen food as if it's fresh is wild. -pancakes: clearly frozen at some point -eggs: dry. how do you even do that..? -biscuits: the best part! light and fluffy -condiments, including salt & pepper: all in individual containers for some reason. the salt and pepper were wet so nearly impossible to use. -hash browns: served loaf style and not exactly "cooked" all the way through -toast: solid. -drinks: 10/10 ice. beverages were fantastic. -bacon: pre-cooked. warmed in microwave. rubbery. -fruit cup: literally only bananas and strawberries. strawberries aren't ready.. they're still too tart. -chicken fried steak: not bad but under seasoned and mushy would literally only come back for drinks, toast and biscuits.

Came here for breakfast cause all the good reviews! The prices are good, but the wait was long, but the food was so good. We got 4 things. First thing was the Breakfast sandwich. And added a gravy, which essentially made it biscuit and gravy with some egg and ham! The alligator omelette was decent sized but I did not try it. The shrimp poboy was a bit dry so i would pass on it. I got the Cajun omelette with biscuit and the split the gravy with the sandwich. The hot sausage definitely had a kick to it and just as tasty and cheesy. the Grits that came with it was really really good. Buttery and tasty!!! I would def come back for breakfast if I was back in NOLA

I had the spicy Cajun gumbo with a strawberry mimosa and boo got an omelette with bacon and spicy sausage. We were both surprised by how quickly our dishes came out. The food was great! I finished my bowl pretty quickly--boo usually eats faster than me but I beat him this time. He used the excuse "it's a LOT of food!" Which it was. Our server, Pamela, was awesome. She gave us to go cups for our drinks and was polite and attentive. I'm glad we came here and that our Uber driver from the airport recommended it.

This place is everything you want for breakfast and brunch! The food is absolutely delicious- everything we ordered was just what we needed! The southern grits- OMG I could have just sat down and ate a whole big tub of those Let's talk about service- when you go in ask for Pamela! Pamela invited us into her home that day she made this family from California feel right at home! We talked about our small restaurant back home, she talked about how much they were like family at Daisy Dukes - we REALLY loved our experience there! In fact we have friends visiting in a few days and told them to go and ask specifically for her! I hope they do The ambiance of the place is just as you would expect in New Orleans! We don't drink, but we did get a Virgin Bloody Mary and the mix is delicious! You gotta try!

This review is regarding takeout. Ordered food to go, and it took an hour to come out. If we'd been told that they were backed up and it would take a while, we would've gone elsewhere. The food and the service are worth a trip to Daisy Dukes. I had shrimp and grits, friends got alligator sausage poboy and fish poboy. I'm not an aficionado when it comes to grits or Cajun food but I loved my dish and cleaned my plate. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce was probably a roux with a little kick. Excellent. The service was excellent even though it was packed. Perfect for lunch with work colleagues. I wish I took a photo.

Heard this was good. Had dinner here a few years ago, liked it. However, with a long wait for a table, we opted to eat at the bar. The bartender bellyached that she is a bartender and not a waitress(!), was clearly annoyed when one in our party wanted to change one fruit for another with breakfast. Then, the food took an inordinate amount of time to be served, as the "slip didn't print in the kitchen." Food was okay, not worth the wait. Bartender refused to discount the meal after at least 30 minutes for food. We won't go back.

Went there for breakfast!.. Pamela was our server, and Alesha was another server that helped us.. They were AMAZING!!!! Not only as far as work goes, but on a personal note as well.. It was our daughter's 14th birthday, and they both treated her like ROYALY!!.. Pinned $ on her, made her an iced coffee that looked like a sundae, and gave her some chocolate kisses!!.. Pamela introduced us to Fried Green Tomatoes!!.. DELICIOUS!!!.. She gave my husband a sample of their Gumbo, and he said we WILL be back!!.. Thank you ladies, for going above and beyond for a few out of towners!!.. We'll be back a few times this week!!

The whole family enjoyed this eatery located just a few short blocks from our hotel. Super friendly service and excellent breakfast staples. Reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

Unbelievable food and Bloody Mary's. Our hostess even showed us how to eat crawfish from the shell. Aleshia was so awesome! Atmosphere could not be more perfect!

Had a burger- shared one actually along with fries. Very good burger. I also had the Bloody Mary with critter. The decor, atmosphere is ok, typical bourbon street vibe. Our waitress was very nice.

The service was so slow. Got the shrimp basket. The shrimp was fresh and the batter was well seasoned. Tasted pretty good with the hot sauce and shrimp cocktail sauce.
