"Whether it’s a coworker or a particularly self-involved friend, some people will just talk at you the whole time you’re together. It’s kind of like being with a TV, so you might as well go somewhere casual with actual TVs to entertain you while you eat alone instead of listening to your dinner companion go on about their last performance review or new workout routine. Daisy's in Hyde Park has excellent po' boys and sides (like seafood gumbo) and a large dining room with strategically placed screens for your eyes to wander to." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen
"Not only does this New Orleans-inspired Hyde Park spot have the best po’boys we’ve encountered in Chicago, but it’s also a blast. The spacious counter-service restaurant has a full bar, live music, and makes boozy hurricanes that aren’t too sweet. Along with the aforementioned po’boys (like fried shrimp, fried green tomato, and a peacemaker—fried oyster and roast beef) the menu has other classics. There are boudin balls and a rich seafood gumbo that has a great amount of heat, and a little crab claw poking out of it. We'd like to think it's wishing us a happy birthday." - adrian kane, veda kilaru, nick allen, john ringor
"Daisy’s will do more to improve your quality of life than a team of personal assistants ever could. Not only does this New Orleans-inspired restaurant in Hyde Park have the best po’boys we’ve encountered in Chicago, but it’s also a blast. The spacious, counter-service restaurant has staff that makes us laugh, live music, and boozy batch cocktails that aren’t too sweet. Along with po’boys, the menu has classics like fried chicken and a rich seafood gumbo that's especially lovable because a little crab claw cheerfully pokes out of it—encouraging you to accept things as they are. And while Daisy’s is extremely casual, it’s still a great place to celebrate a birthday, promotion, anniversary, or your fictitious personal assistant’s birthday." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru
"This New Orleans-inspired restaurant comes from the team behind Virtue, another excellent Hyde Park place that knows fried chicken. But we like the version here because we can also wash it down with their refreshing and boozy Hurricane. The bird is seasoned to salty perfection, has skin that crackles like lightning, and is served with two fluffy biscuits and honey butter. You can get either a half or whole order depending on what your poultry-loving heart desires." - john ringor, adrian kane
"James Beard-winning chef Erick Williams of Virtue runs a sports bar just around the corner in Hyde Park at Harper Court. They’re offering happy hour specials through the men’s championship game with a menu including hot honey sliders, blackened chicken sandwiches, muffuletta, and a cheeseburger." - Ashok Selvam
