My son was having a horrible day and wanted a cinnamon roll. The gentleman who helped us was very friendly, and we ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie and raspberry brownie in addition to the cinnamon rolls. My son said, "This is the best cookie I've ever tasted!" I have to agree--it was perfectly crispy and buttery on the outside and chewy on the inside, with just the right amount of chocolate. The brownie was so moist without being underdone--right between cakey and fudgy--so good! The cinnamon rolls were heavenly. We could smell them the whole ride home. Definitely recommend this bakery!

Just before the holiday, I found myself in WB wondering how I was going to fly back to Arizona and get ready for Rosh Hashana. It occurred to me to buy my challah and a honey cake & take it home on the plane. ( Honey cake is a MUST in memory of my Poppy ) Best move ever ! After decades of dry, nasty honey cakes purchased elsewhere, Dakota’s was the BEST I ever ate ! Sorry I didn’t buy 2 !! Thanks Dakota !

I have been following this bakery for while since I have a dairy allergy but it was hard to visit since they are not open on weekends. Anyhow bought a Whole wheat and regular challah, both were pretty good. I also bought Cranberry muffin and lemon bar, these were super super bad, doughy, was super disappointed.

Google
We are all obsessed with this cinnamon babka! It is fantastic! Run,don’t walk, to get it!

Google
You want some warm fresh homemade bread, this is where you go. On Fridays, they even make a chocolate chip Challah, that is lethal it's so good. You need to get there early to snag that. Not only all types of bread, but other baked delectables like muffins and the like. And again, it's all made fresh daily, they'll even slice the loaf to whatever thickness your heart desires. Or leave that to you.

Google
The ordering process is already so easy, but Tara remembering my preference of challah makes it even easier! Super friendly every week and my kid's fav challah.

Google
Fantastic kosher (pareve) bakery with an excellent range of products. A variety of challot include whole wheat and chocolate chip, as well as a solid selection of pastries and cookies. They regularly have pizza dough in their fridge, which is a great time saver.

Google
Want here to purchase sweets from a local bakery. Challah bread was very good, but the desserts like the lemon bar and brownie were too sweet and not the right texture.

Yelp
Best Challah anywhere. You won't find better in New York or LA. Kosher. Place is filled with various baked goods as well, including very good pies ($18, very reasonable).

Yelp
If you're looking for incredible Challah, Dakota Bread will make you happy. It's amazing. But while you're there, make sure to pick up the pull apart everything Challah rolls and my very favorite item, the Babka rolls. Seriously amazing. Loved photographing these delicious baked items.

Yelp
My first visit to Dakota Bread. I purchased a loaf of "rye bread." It was moist, almost wet like it was not fully cooked. The loaf was as soft as a loaf of wonder bread or a loaf of, say Meiers white bread. There were few if any caroway seeds in the bread, and it was lfavorless and tasteless. Rye bread should be a dense flavorful bread. This loaf was neither. I cannot recommend this bakery

Yelp
Dakota has the very best challah bread and is on my list to get every time I'm back visiting family in Michigan. On this trip, I needed to order a sweet tray for a funeral, and was impressed with the service when I called. They were able to prepare the sweet tray the same morning (on a Monday when many other bakeries were closed) even though they usually have a 24 hour turnaround.

Yelp
The bomb! Soooo good! I do suggest they offer a tip option when paying in store, via credit card.

Yelp
There is no challah better than Dakota, especially for the New Year holidays. Baked goods are always fresh and delicious. I love the sugar cookies and the cinnamon buns. The service is friendly and it always smells good when you enter. it is worth the extra mile for fresh baked goods especially breads.

Yelp
This review is based on customer service, I was in today simply to pick up a loaf of bread, as I walked in no one was at the counter so I approached, there was a woman looking at the baked goods on the other side. When the person working walked up to me and rudely told me rudely " take a step back for me" that's when I noticed the woman was being helped by him and had walked away and now was back next to me. He could have said it nicely words like could you please and thank you, it's horrible when a man talk to a woman like that, especially coming from a white man helping a white woman to someone who is not white. Rude!

Yelp
I was in town visiting from Phoenix ( formerly from Michigan). I needed to get a Challah Bread and 7 layer cake for a family event. A friend recommended Dakota bread. My family and friends were blown away by how good both of these items were. I will definitely be back here next time I'm in town. *Best Challah bread I've ever had!

Yelp
Today was my first time here and I will DEFINITELY be coming back! The pastries are amazing, but what really made my experience great was the customer service. Highly recommend coming here.

Steven C.

Yelp
Bread, especially chalah are wonderful. Other baked goods are also great. Almost always stop in when I am in the area. Service is excellent. Smell of fresh baked bread is is enticing.

Mark E.

Yelp
Very disappointed in my experience ordering a Shiva tray! Was told it would be there early at 1 and it arrived after 4:30. Did not have a lot of what I was told would be in the tray. Two Challah's took up the majority of the basket. Expected more cookies based on what I was told. Will not order from there again!!!!

Yelp
The bread is amazing. But this review is based on the customer service. I have actually called to personally complain to the manager and owner and when I spoke with the manager she knew exactly who I was referring to saying there have been a lot of complaints. There are plenty of nice and hardworking people that are looking for work. How is this person still employed? Buying fresh bread is a treat and we dread coming.

Yelp
Great bread, cookies, muffins, baked goods in general. Stopped here with my son after a Dr. Appt, and he got to choose a muffin and a cookie. He picked a coffeecake muffin and frosted cookie for after lunch. I bought a loaf is challah, and a "funny shaped cookie" for myself. The challah bread was amazing and I almost fought my kids for it. The cookies were great too but I did not get o take my usual "mom tax" from my son's cookie as he ate his at school. I will be back here whenever we visit my son's doctor!

Yelp
Excellent bread and their pastries are some of the better ones I have had. Everything is fresh and lot of innovative items. Worth a visit to carry out.

Yelp
I had heard about this bakery through a friend and thought I would go there to buy some cupcakes for my family for Easter. The customer service was rude & and not accommodating. I will never go back. There are other bakeries that are glad to help their customers & happy for the business. This is not one of them.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst. I went in to the West Bloomfield store and asked for a sugar free muffin. The counter person put the muffin in a bag and I left. Right outside I broke off a piece to was so dense I couldn't believe it. I handed it to my companion she wasn't expecting it and it fell on the sidewalk. The muffin actually BOUNCED TWICE . I took right back the response was from the sales person said "well that's the way they are". Even though I told her it was inedible. She took the muffin back and would not refund $ 1.95 I spent. I guess they don't know how to bake sugar free muffins...if they sell this stuff.. They should stop...and right quick ! The rating should be 0 for Customer Service 1 for Product

Yelp
This is the best Challah I have ever tasted. I live in Indianapolis and we have relatives in Bloomfield so when ever we come to town we stop by and stock up.

Robert B.

Yelp
Great, I mean Great Bread. Sat AM, Sept 8, btwn 11:15-11:30...One, Repeat ONE Person Working the counter!!! Line out the door. At least 25-30 people waiting. Like Dakota gives a crap! Next time, Diamond Bakery. Update: someone "may@ have read this? Within 5 min, another lady appeared, and 5 min after that, a THIRD lady appeared.

Yelp
Had a daily deal coupon that expires tomorrow so I had to go and use it. Glad I didnt wait ..there were at least four signs all over the bakery stating "Deals expire on June 3th, no extentions, no exceptions"...it set a bad tone. I looked on the website and lots of different loafs of bread were advertised but they only had Challah in stock (granted it was Friday). I was hoping to try something different, but I bought a Challah, tuna panini, salad and the last loaf of multi grain bread. The girls behind the counter are fantastic, extremely friendly. Took dinner to my husband, who LOVED the tuna and salad. In fact he said "best tuna ever". The bread is tasty as well. So to wrap up...wish they would stock more variety but we will back for more tuna and salad.

Yelp
Great bread and bakery The owners are so nice and accommodating the prices are reasonable They can do corporate events and local events for large and small businesses also

Yelp
Technically, I didn't eat there, but I tried! I walked in, stood looking at the food, nobody came to see me, so the only thing I could do is leave. I have no idea who was working or if anybody was, but it was a weekday morning and the doors were unlocked. I wasn't too disappointed, though, because nothing in the display case really caught my eye. Plum Market got my money instead.

Yelp
Dakota Bread is outstanding! The challah(egg bread) is the very best in town! Same for their raisin challah! I especially love that they have the ability to look up the ingredients of every item they sell. That way I know which products have dairy in them!
google avatar

Yelp
I was not impressed by this bakery. When I entered the bakery I was not greeted granted, there was only one person behind the counter at the time who was already helping a customer. I ordered a muffin and a cupcake. The cupcake was very cold and frozen in the center! The cupcake was not fresh and not very enjoyable. The muffin had a gooey texture and not much better than something you might buy at the gas station. I probably will not visit there again.

Rosemary M.

Yelp
Another great bakery on orchard lake in West Bloomfield! Everything is delicious!!! Great selection of breads and baked goods!

Yelp
I have tried other Jewish Bakeries and found that Dakota had the best Challah in Michigan! The staff is always very helpful and friendly. FYI: I travel over 25 miles for their Challah. Yummy

Yelp
One word: MUFFINS. Pumpkin, zucchini, banana, oh my! There isn't all that many options but it's a cute little bakery that has phenomenal products. I have only had the bakery items, so I can't attest to any of the sandwiches. Awesome challah, too.

Yelp
My rating is on mere customer service. I have bought their bread at local stores and I like it. I recently tried to make my way to their shop to grab a few gifts for my kids teachers. I was on my way (traffic was taking way longer than expected) and noticed that they closed at 6pm. I was probably going to get there right at 6pm. As a small business owner myself, I find myself after hours quite often. If someone calls to tell me they are on their way, but it is cutting it close to closing time. I ALWAYS appreciate their concern and gladly stay late for them. So...I called. The encounter was a bit rushed and my announcement that I was arriving maybe a few minutes after "closing" was rudely accepted. I then realized I had made an error and drove to Great Harvest Bread Co. instead (Christmas shopping stress at best). I wasn't happy about that mistake and instantly called Dakota Bread Co. back to apologize and say I wasn't coming and not to wait if they were planning on doing so. The man I talked to was extremely rude and seemed so bothered. I inquired about ordering a basket and was rudely rebuffed. I ended up spending my money at Great Harvest on Maple and happily did so. They were so cheerful, even if it seemed apparent they were busy.

Wendy W.

Yelp
I really love this bakery for their breads. They do have the best Challah in the city, and my family will kill for their Cinnamon Challah, which we use to make french toast. Don't wait until late in the day or there won't be much variety left as they do sell out quickly. I am less than thrilled with their baked goods - while the cupcakes are tasty, they're also kept frozen until you order one (also the Black and White cookies). With so many cupcake bakeries around, including Just Baked right down the street, I think they should focus on what they do best - BREADS (and their muffins are also very good). You can't be "all things to all people" so focus on what you do best of all, and people will beat a path to your door (they already do for your breads!)

Cynthia B.

Yelp
I love their Sugar Free muffins. They are really dense, and you can actually taste the fruit in them.

Corey R.

Yelp
Dakota makes the best challah! We get it here for all of our holidays and for regular Shabbats.

Stacey G.

Yelp
Consistently wonderful challah, especially the chocolate chip loaf on Fridays. I shop there 2-3 times a week!

Marcie L.

Yelp
They best bread ever especially their challah. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The owners are very easy to work with and happy to accommodate special orders
