The 14 Best Things to Do in Dallas, From Fine Art to Next-Level BBQ | Condé Nast Traveler

"For years, the Dallas Farmers Market was mostly a wholesale market with purveyors primarily selling goods to restaurants. But a more recent emphasis on close-to-home farmers (and a major facelift of the site itself) has made it well worth a visit during any trip to the Big D. Check out The Shed—a breezy outdoor pavilion behind the main building where you can buy all kinds of fresh produce and delicious street food—before browsing everything from quirky housewares to artisanal jewelry in the main hall itself." - Priya Krishna, Jonathan Thompson

9 Must Visit Dallas-Fort Worth Food Halls

"The Farmer’s Market is a favorite of the neighborhood, servicing the apex of Downtown, Uptown, and Deep Ellum. With so many stalls, it offers more choices than almost every other food hall in the area. Grab a coffee at Market Provisions or do the weekly shopping at the multiple on-site butchers—or Rex’s Seafood. And, of course, the Shed is open on weekends for a proper farmer’s market shopping experience." - Courtney E. Smith

"As proof that Dallasites aren’t all about the carnivore life, this downtown market has been peddling farm-fresh veggies, dairy, and more since 1941. What started as a small horse-and-wagon wholesale market is now a 26,000-square-foot hall lined with farm stands, artisan food vendors, and specialty purveyors, plus food hall–style stalls and four permanent restaurants. From fresh baked goods to gourmet cheeses, globally sourced spices to locally grown produce, and seafood to spirits, you’ll find everything you need to stock your pantry or picnic basket. After shopping, grab some coffee or lunch to enjoy at the indoor or outdoor seating areas—the latter facing views of the downtown skyline."

"In 2016, the Dallas Farmers Market underwent a major renovation, and one of the unused buildings was transformed into the Shed—an amazing indoor local food hall. We love nourishing bone broth from Stocks and Bondy, Mexican furniture at the Dallas Antique Company, truffle-infused cheese from Scardello, and, of course, the fresh local produce."

I recently visited the Dallas Farmers Market on a Wednesday, and while I was excited about the experience, I found that many shops were still closed during my visit. This was a bit disappointing, as I was hoping to explore more of what the market has to offer. However, I did discover a hidden gem—the bookstore! It featured an impressive collection of old books with custom book covers, which was a delightful surprise. The character and charm of the store made it a standout. I also enjoyed some breakfast tacos while I was there, and I have to say, the homemade flour tortillas were fantastic! They added a wonderful touch to the tacos and made for a satisfying breakfast. Overall, while my visit was somewhat limited due to shop hours, I found a few highlights that made it worthwhile. I would recommend checking out the Dallas Farmers Market, especially on the weekends when more shops are open. This way, you can fully enjoy everything the market has to offer!

Lots of food options and everything tastes great! I especially love coming on Sundays when they have vendors set up outside—it adds such a fun, lively vibe to the experience. There’s always something new to try!

Google
A nice collections of eateries and shops, spreading out in a newish area. The produce is on the weekends. The area feels yuppie. Because the Rex's seafood in the corner is showing French Open, so we stopped there and watched - very decent oysters and better radish: they grind it fresh.

Absolutely Love the Dallas Farmers Market! This place is a gem in the heart of Dallas! From the vibrant local produce and artisanal goods to the delicious food vendors and community vibes, every visit is an experience. The market is clean, well-organized, and full of friendly faces. Whether you’re shopping for fresh fruits and veggies, grabbing lunch, or just enjoying a weekend stroll, there’s something for everyone. I especially love supporting local farmers and small businesses. Highly recommend for families, foodies, and anyone looking to experience the best of Dallas culture!

Google
Very cute place. Plenty of street parking. The inside market is really a giant food hall with maybe 1-2 retail shops. The outdoor market is thankfully under a tent with fan for airflow (thank god) Lots of vendors from gourmet pudding, to mushroom coffee, honey and books.

Google
So many food options! Such a good vibe, live music, someone was playing the flute. Tons of fresh produce but also a lot of little craft tables and adorable shops along the strip. I think this is a Dallas must. Parking is ATROCIOUS though, at least on a Saturday when I went. There’s a lot of parking but it’s just so busy you’re lucky is you find a spot.

Google
There was a solid mix of smaller mom and pop stands as well as some larger shops sprinkled throughout what was a pretty big area. There are a couple of different areas that make up the farmers market, some inside and some outside. It was pretty busy and some areas were a little hard to get around, but overall it was a lot of fun and the atmosphere was great. Certainly a lot to do, see, and eat.

Google
Great place to chill on the weekend or any time of the day period! Catch some great vibes, listen to some good tunes and sample some of the great food. Don't leave without trying the Jamaican Patties!

Yelp
I stopped by here after work yesterday, just to check it out since I drive by all the time. It's a really cool spot! I picked up a few things from Kelly's Produce--strawberries, bananas, kombucha, and two avocados--and it came to $24, which made me chuckle. The service was great, and the cashier was super friendly. While I probably won't be buying produce here again (it was the same brands you can get at Costco, just a bit pricier), I'm definitely looking forward to trying out some of their restaurants and juice bars. I also loved the store with unique, funky decorations and candles for the house. Overall, it was a nice experience, and I'd love to return when it's busier--I've seen so many people posting about this place online, so I'm excited to come back and explore more!
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
While this is a nice food court, it's hardly a farmer's market. The only produce I saw was at Kelly's produce and some of it looked decent but extremely expensive. $4 for ONE mango is insane. $6 for ONE pineapple is crazy. The $2 price for a fresh bunch of herbs was pretty reasonable. As a first time visitor, my expectations were pretty high until I realized this was not a true bonafide farmer's market.

Yelp
Truly enjoyed the indoor/outdoor setup of the farmers market! Vendors did begin closing up shop early when I went, so do try to get there at least 2 hours before they close. Setting: Under an awning outdoors, with stalls and vendors lined up near each other. Indoors, there's a food hall. Service: The various staff I interacted with were so kind. Food: Delicious and affordable! The options were the freshest you could find.

Yelp
It's an okay farmers market. I was definitely expecting more since it's every day, but it's fairly small. I like that the produce is from local farmers, but it's hard to support them when I'm only visiting for a few days. The handmade items were mostly jewelry and weren't very unique. I did end up buying one item though: it's a heat resistant tile for the kitchen to place hot pots/pans on to protect your counter. What makes this one special is that it's Halloween themed (my favorite holiday and his birth month) and has a portrait of a PON. It looks exactly like my sweet PJ who passed away last year. I actually teared up when I saw it because it was just too perfect (tearing up a little now just writing about it). I'm giving this review an extra star just because of how amazing this was.

Yelp
I AM OBSESSED WITH THE DALLAS FARMER'S MARKET! This farmer's market is the most thoughtfully curated one I've ever visited. It's divided into two sections: The Shed and The Market. The Market is open daily and features boutique shops around the perimeter, along with several food vendors and scattered boutiques inside. The Shed is only open on the weekend, and offers a more traditional farmer's market experience, showcasing small businesses selling a variety of items, including fresh vegetables, boutique apparel, soaps, jewelry, and a few smaller food vendors. I visited during the fall and while the temperature may not fit the season, the Farmer's Market team absolutely nailed the decor, complete with beautiful photo ops. Plus, you can even purchase your very own pumpkin!

Yelp
I can't believe so many ppl have lived in Dallas all Their lives and never been to the Dallas farmers market! Def missing out!! Rex's seafood is really good! Actually all of the vendors serve tasty food! There's even a halal Trinidadian spot that makes delicious curries and drinks! There's a macaroon spot and coffee shop that are very yummy!! Something for everyone, run don't walk here!!

Yelp
The Dallas Farmers Market is a fantastic spot to spend a weekend! From the moment you arrive, you're surrounded by an inviting atmosphere filled with fresh produce, unique goods, and a wide range of vendors offering something for everyone. Inside The Shed, you'll find farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, handcrafted items, and specialty foods. The vendors are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to answer questions or make recommendations. I especially loved trying the local honey and baked goods--they were outstanding! The outdoor area adds to the experience with food trucks, live music, and plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the day. The staff and vendors go above and beyond to make sure you have a great visit, providing excellent service throughout. If you're looking for fresh ingredients, one-of-a-kind gifts, or just a lively and enjoyable outing, the Dallas Farmers Market won't disappoint. Highly recommended!

Yelp
There is some limited street parking between the Shed and the food court building. There is parking in the parking garage - the 1st 2 hours are free when you scan the bar code. Depending on when you arrive the parking does fill up fast. There is my 5 or 6 visit, we enjoy stopping by when visiting Dallas. We have some favorites Trouvé cookies, the sea moss toothpaste and a body lotion and when they are there the puzzle table. Lots of variety and food options. It is a nice stroll around the booths and in the food building.
google avatar

Temina C.

Yelp
The last time I came here was in 2016 and so much has changed since then! I highly recommend you come early and park in the garage because parking on the street is always full. Parking is free up to 2 hours then $3 per hour after that. There are hundreds of vendors, indoor and outdoor eateries and local artisan shops. I enjoyed the fresh produce stalls around the area and I bought some of the tastiest cherry tomatoes and fresh eggs. Most vendors take cash or card. Breakfast spots are lacking except if you want breakfast tacos or sandwiches which was a bummer. But the food we got was great! I highly recommend visiting at least once in the fall and spring since it's way too hot in the summer. They do a great job keeping the shed cold with fans so it's not unbearable.

Yelp
Busy on a weekend so it was two blocks away where I was finally able to find a meter. Inside on a Saturday afternoon, pretty much shoulder to shoulder with browsers and people balancing a meal while looking for a place to sit. I did okay browsing and finally found the right spot. After a sample from Bellatrino, I was able to order a pepperoni pizza and caught a seat at The 2nd Tap to order a beer (and then another beer) while I watched the people go by. Lots of shopping here, not just "farmers market" but coffee and clothing and food and drinks and yes, fresh veggies and flowers and such. [Review 786 of 2024 - 542 in Texas - 21817 overall]

Yelp
I am a sucker for a good farmers market and this is one of the good ones. I am glad I got to go on a weekend. I guess during the week part of this huge farmers market is open but you don't get to experience the true greatness of it until the weekend. So we went Saturday morning and just walked around browsing the different shops and tons of pop up booths that were there. Plus the fall decorations made it even better. I wish I lived in Dallas just so I could go to this farmers market on a regular basis. The variety of vegetables, honeys and other craft products was amazing. The food options were amazing also. I got to sample Nigerian food , fresh brewed sweet teas, wagu beef pot stickers. Like I said I really wish I lived closer I really enjoyed this farmers market. The service was also incredible. Almost everyone was pleasant and welcoming and eager to have you try the samples they were offering. So if you're looking for something fun to do give this a try.

Yelp
Overall, the food, service, and ambiance are all great! I went to the farmers market on a saturday morning with my boyfriend. The parking does fill up fast, so I recommend preparing to pay to park closely by the entrance to the farmers market. There are amazing vendors of all kinds and I enjoyed getting to browse through all of the differnt local vendors. The food is also great, and there are restaurants that anyone will like, ranging from thai food, to italian, mexican, and many more. Definitely a great place to take your family

Yelp
Don't really understand what's special about this place. It feels commercial in the lamest way possible. A lot of shops and eateries in a hauntingly empty building on Labor's Day Weekend. There's really not much to do other than buy food-court style food and browse at some plants while traversing through the buildings. IMO not worth a stop if you're traveling around Dallas.
google avatar

Yelp
Never a bad experience when I visit the Dallas farmers market. Always something new and a great atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Very awesome Farmers market with food trucks and many items to buy. There are parts that are shaded, but definitely wear a hat, fan, and sunscreen.
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
This is a great way to support local farmers and enjoy different food options. We brought our daughters here and found it was great to have the different food types available at the nearby food hall and even in the Farmers Market area. Be prepared for crowds on weekends and scouting for open tables. You'll find neat little shops around the area to walk around. For food, three of us had tamales and spicy margaritas. The sauce you they had for dipping was really spicy. I went to another food vendor and got the Texas Cuban sandwich and it hit the spot!. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. Consider public transportation if possible for less hassle.
google avatar

Channa T.

Yelp
This is my 2nd year for the Watermelon Festival!!! I had an amazing time again. I'm not able to stay for all the activities but the vendors are always so nice.
google avatar

Caroline Z.

Yelp
I forget which shop we got these nachos and margs from at the Dallas Farmers Market, but these were solid! Exactly what I was craving!!
google avatar

Iliana E.

Yelp
I'm not from Dallas so going to Dallas is always an adventure. But this farmer's market was way bigger than I expected! I love all the fresh organic produce and the fact that they had all the things I love like raw honey, zucchini, berries, peaches, watermelons! They have it all and it's well organized well kept the place is clean and the service is always friendly! Definitely recommend bringing a big bag or even a small cart they have a lot to offer! I will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
A bit busy, but a really fun way to see a little bit of what Dallas has to offer! There wasn't nearly as much fresh produce as i was hoping for, but what was there looked fantastic. There were lots of local vendors selling their goods from breads to oils to plants and more! Parking in the parking garage is free for the first two hours, but pretty busy. Still, it's worth a trip! Go hungry and check out the food hall as well. We sampled some of the pizza and we'll be back to grab some.
google avatar

Tamilah K.

Yelp
I was a bit disappointed in the fresh produce selections but the food vendors were excellent. Parking is a bit of a mess so do not prepay for any lot as they oversell the spaces. A lot of arts, crafts, honey and specialty snacks. I ended up grabbing a few beignets and a beef bratwurst near the exit.
google avatar

Erin F.

Yelp
Here's a glimpse of our fabulous day at the Dallas Farmers Market! From unique vendors with handmade treasures to indulging in wine slushies and mouthwatering treats, every moment was a delight for the senses. Check out our homemade bestie trucker hats--because why not add a personal touch to our adventure! If you're in Dallas, you've got to experience this market. It's more than just shopping--it's a whole vibe!
google avatar

Shari Y.

Yelp
There's plenty of parking. A nice variety of vendors indoor and outdoor. Bought a few different items can't wait to try them out.
google avatar

Alycia M.

Yelp
There's always at least 1 vendor that I want to buy something from, food or skincare.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
LOVE the Dallas Farmers Market! Always such a great variety of home grown meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies, honey, jams & wine from locals. Tons of yummy eats inside of the main building and they also offer great shops for cute clothes & Texas goods. I love to visit during the Fall because of the wide variety of pumpkins and fall goodies.
google avatar

Minji K.

Yelp
They had a variety of shops both indoors and outdoors with lots of local vendors! They even had a guitarist playing some live music today! Tried a few pieces of tuna sushi and a spicy salmon roll Ginzaro sushi. The worker was super sweet and service was quick. The fish was god quality although the rice could be better in terms of flavor and consistency. Taqueria La Ventana had street style tacos and elotes. I tried the chopped brisket taco and al pastor taco, which were decent. The elotes were flavorful but a bit too watery. Parking was paid at the parking lot or street parking, and there were definitely a crowd of people on this beautiful day. Very family friendly and fun place to look around if you're looking to get some local food and goods.
google avatar

Jasmine J.

Yelp
A super fun thing to do on the weekends with kids, families or even on a date . The vendors are all so sweet . Plenty of great food eateries inside and out. Try the bratwurst outside across from the sweet tea food truck! Both were so good . Can't wait to come back

Yelp
During a work conference, my coworkers and I wanted to walk around town to get our minds off work. I've been to Dallas Farmers Market previously back in July 2019, this past Oct 2023 we wanted to check out the Texas Pumpkin Patch and it did not disappoint! There were so many varieties and it was so fun to check them all out. Afterwards we decided to grab dinner at Beyond The Butcher as our dinner. I'm not sure if it was because it was a weekday, but it was fairly empty and quiet. I remember it was so crowded (at hot!) when I visited during the summer. Nevertheless we enjoyed our time here and it was a nice way to wrap up a work trip. It was an easy walk from the Sheraton Downtown Hotel where we stayed.
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
This place gets really crowded on the weekends. Still nice selection of shops. Couldn't find honey sticks which is my staple at farmers markets. Very noisy and long lines for the women's bathroom.
google avatar

Erica S.

Yelp
I LOVE the Dallas Farmers Market. Both the inside and the shed have great local places that I frequently visit. The inside is open 7 days a week with restaurants and shops. My go to places are Rex's for tuna nachos or tartar (so good) and BellaTrino for pizza. During the week BellaTrino has a great pizza lunch special that includes a pizza, salad or chips and drink. The sushi shop is also a must try place. The owner is so friendly and the sushi is fresh. For the actual farmers market, I try to make it to the outdoor part in the Shed once a weekend. I specifically go on Saturday to get OakCliff Bread, Sunday for Smithspot BBQ, and either day for farm fresh eggs, Brothers pita chips, jams etc. It is a great family and animal friendly environment.
google avatar

Mystery S.

Yelp
Really nice farmer's market. Had a nice mix of fresh vendors, food, and some products. Liked how there is a dining area and separate area for other vendors and street foods.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Dallas has an indoor and outdoor farmers market with plenty of vendors. They have vendors ranging from specialty honeys, juices, dips, crafts, coffee, and much more. One disappointing thing about the farmers market is the lack of fresh produce. There is plenty to do and see here on an early Saturday or Sunday morning. If you are staying in Dallas within walking distance from the farmers market I do recommend walking.
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
A nice little place to visit while in Dallas. Depending on what you are looking for depends on your experience. There is an indoor section with a lot of stores and food options. On the outside it's different places for you to sit and variety of food for you to try. Not to many places to purchase produce and plants for your home. But it's definitely a nice area to come and spend some time at. Until next review Kisses
google avatar

Sheilicha S.

Yelp
Stopped here for the first time and truly enjoyed the experience. We tried Caribbean Cabana they were totally out of Jamaican Pattie's and I can see why. My Curry Chicken was delivered incorrectly and I received the Jerk Chicken with three sides and it was DELICIOUS!!' Thanks to the owner, Robert. I'll definitely return.
google avatar

Sandra B.

Yelp
Great open space to get some delicious food from 1 of the many dining options. There are also shops you can browse. There is a large shaded area that has vendors on the weekends. I went on a Wednesday night, so nobody was set up. I had food at the Mexican food stand. The bowl didn't have any spice. However, there was bottles of salsa available to spice up the food. I also got a margarita during happy hour. The drink was delicious. The attendant at the counter was patient and helpful in choosing a food item.
google avatar

Drina R.

Yelp
Great experience. First time visiting a farmers market. My husband and I walked around and there were so many vendors, which was awesome. Purchased some fruit (watermelons were delicious) and freshly cooked beignets. Also, stopped and chat with one of the vendors who wrote children's books and purchased one for our granddaughter. Just so much fun. Although it was extremely hot I will definitely be returning.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
I come here quite a bit. Every Saturday and Sunday, this venue is packed with people walking around. They also do special events for big holidays (Cinco de Mayo for example). You will def find at least one thing to buy to eat or take home. The only con I can think of is parking. If you arrive too late, you will be forced to drive in circles until a spot opens up. There is garage and street parking but fills up extremely fast.
google avatar

Katya P.

Yelp
We came here in on a Wednesday morning around 11AM - I was expecting a lot of cute shops or places to eat, but the place seemed dead. Despite an opening time of 11 as per the website, most businesses inside the air conditioned building were closed. As these are mostly restaurants, I suspect they open much later or maybe not at all during weekdays? we walked through the establishment and most businesses didn't have any signs or hours listed so it was hard to tell. I knew that the actual produce market would be closed on weekdays but was hoping to find some nice shops to buy touristy stuff since we were from out of town. We found only 1 stall that had tshirts and across the street there were a couple more shops for knick knacks, but nothing really stood out to us. The good thing is that we found free street parking, and since it was so empty we basically just went in and out in less than half an hour, there really wasn't much to see. I would not recommend coming here on a weekday morning - you definitely won't get a full experience.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
I had not been to downtown Dallas since 1998 and it's definitely changed for the better! I loved the Farmers Market inside and out. Great shops and lots of food choices. Hope to come here again on my next visit to my hometown! I liked the homemade crafts outside as well as the other shops inside. There aren't a lot inside but they were fun to look in
google avatar

X M.

Yelp
You can find a variety of food here, but it closes at 7pm. When we walked in on a Sunday evening, it was about 6:20pm. Majority of shops were already closed. So we did not have many choices. We tried suchi. It was just ok. The service was bare minimum. I don't think they should charge for tips.
google avatar

JemuelnleAnne M.

Yelp
During the week this is an ok place to stop and take a look at some local food and flare. While our pizza order was lost despite us being the only order and a complete flop we were able to try some other eateries. Not a big fan of what the choices were but we certainly had a nice stop along our route. You have seafood, steak, rice bowl, pizza and more to choose from. Not bad but not great!!
google avatar

Ray R.

Yelp
Visiting from Nashville and came across this place. It's a cool little area and offers your typical farmers market items.
google avatar

Kristina S.

Yelp
Cute little farmer market. Hate that they close so early but it's definitely a place to visit. Many food and drink options and everyone has been friendly
google avatar

Adriana Z.

Yelp
Enjoyed seeing local vendors products, came during the weekend and was a busy spot, A variety of delicious food, outside and indoor space to look at different vendors, Everyone was cordial and welcoming, Great spot to visit!
google avatar

Brianna R.

Yelp
The last two times we visited Dallas we came here and it's great busy market with lots of hot food, some produce, and makers selling homemade products and crafts as well. I'm a creature of habit (and green juice seems hard to find whenever I'm anywhere in TX), so I came back to Juicebabe. Parking is hard. Inside the main part of the market there's AC to escape from the heat and clean bathrooms. Seems like a great place for the family on weekends.
google avatar

SL R.

Yelp
Im not from Dallas area so had not been there in years. I was looking forward to it. I loved that we had 2 hoyrs of free parking in the garage. The food court area was amazing as the last time i was there there were onlt a few establishment. I was though disappointed in the shed. I was hoping to see MORE fruits n veggies for sale. The last time i was there it was all fruits, veggies n a few plant vendors. So this was disappointing for me. But it was fun to walk around with friends.
google avatar

Gisela J.

Yelp
It's a pretty good size market. I am from out of town and I loved the 3 different colors of watermelons they are sweet. Walnuts brought back memories from when I was a child. The local art and the jewelry are beautiful. The pupusas were good. The drinks are so refreshing for this Dallas heat. The service of every shop was great. They all have such good attitudes to be out in the heat. I enjoyed visiting this Farmers market.
google avatar

Jamie T.

Yelp
Fun place to be at, lots of things to buy and taste! Unfortunately, I wish they had like some kind of activity here in this area but if you're okay with just shopping and eating, it's the place for you! Also be careful where you park because it can get sketchy really fast.
google avatar

Yolanda H.

Yelp
The space has evolved into a diverse marketplace over the years. Parking can be a challenge. Once you are at the market, it is worth the hassle especially if the weather is nice.
