Dalston Jazz Bar

Delicious fresh seafood and great live jazz music! We had an amazing time and I would certainly come back. The only negative I would say is the lack of ventilation.

What an incredible place. The seafood, the amazing service, the live jazz, the atmosphere. It was all on point. Such a unique experience and doesn’t feel like you are in London. We celebrated my birthday and after our dinner we were taken to the place across the street to continue the evening. The owner also sent us a bottle of sparkling wine and the waiter came in singing and dancing, even if no one had requested this! I had only mentioned that it’s a birthday in the booking. Such a gem of a place - I will definitely be back!

celebrated our friend's birthday here for dinner & were served a set menu that consisted of good seafood! we had oysters, mussels, trout, haddock, & king prawns. 🦐 there were also peas & chips as sides 🍟, and cheesecake & carrot cake for dessert. 🍰 it was a warm night, so we were sat outside. the jazz music added to the atmosphere, although there were times when they took a break & it was quiet. still, excellent vibes! 🎷 the price of the food is pay as you wish, but they do have a drinks menu that you have set prices. overall a good place for a meal in east london. would definitely come back again.

First of all, we thought we were going to the main restaurant, but we were led to another location across from it because there was no space, even though we had a reservation two months in advance. The atmosphere of the other place was completely different from the main restaurant. The jazz band was not the same, and it was too bright to feel like a jazz bar. We had to pay a minimum of £30 per person. The menu did not state this minimum requirement, and we felt taken advantage of. Please avoid making the same mistake; this place clearly states its pricing policy is according to how you feel the food and experience are worth. The musicians told us they were not even paid a portion of what we paid. The food arrived randomly (not in the order it appeared on the menu), and it took a while for all the dishes to arrive. We had to leave early because it was taking so long, yet we still had to pay £30. The seafood was nothing special; the flavours were bland and unexceptional. The oysters were not fresh which was concerning... I have had better seafood at home. Oh, and the bread was stale and hard to bite into, so overall, would not go here again or recommend this to others.

Loved the atmosphere; the jazz was cool and the seafood was delicious and very good sized portions! We had the seafood tartare for a starter and it was delicious. We enjoyed the fresh oysters (could have done with more lemon but that's not a big deal) and the large portion of clams hit the spot. For the next course we got two very large pieces of fish in very tasty seafood sauce, potato and some of the best chips that I have had, to share between 4 people, which was definitely enough and delicious. The last course was tiger prawns which were very tasty as well and by then we were pleasantly stuffed.The only thing that we didn't enough so much was the cake for dessert which was very heavy and a bit claggy. But we went for the seafood and they definitely delivered! My hubby is allergic to shellfish and he had a bit of a wait for his fish course but it was worth waiting for and as it is a seafood restaurant we appreciated the staff were accommodating. It was a very busy service but the staff, though rushed off their feet were pleasant and courteous. All in all a very good experience and we would definitely return if we are in London again!

Had the best birthday meal here. 4 of us shared the shoal and you get SO much food. We were all stuffed and we can eat! They also check you’re full at the end and bring more food if not (the table next to us did). Every course was delicious. Favourites were the smoked haddock with butternut squash and the fish stew. Bread and chips great too. Tried both the white wines they were both great. It’s more about the vibe than immaculate service, they could do with a couple more waiters to clear etc but you’re there for the music and the incredible food. Also the band break for a bit during food so you can actually chat which was nice too! Pay what you feel, we did roughly £30 pp plus drinks

I've been here twice before and it's always been a very special experience, but this time I left the restaurant with disappointment. - As we sat down we were told there was a set menu and we couldn't pick what we wanted to eat. This was not highlighted on their website, email confirmation or text. Extremely disappointing as we wanted the shrimp which was not even on this set menu. - None of the waiters smiled. It was creepy. The warm feeling of the kind staff I remembered so fondly was gone and it was a sterile environment. - the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. No words. They had a lamp plugged in on the floor and a drizzle of watered down soap. Shocking. I hope they get the warm amazing atmosphere back I remember from previous visits, but as of now I wouldn't recommend anyone going.

⭐ 1 star - Do not listen to Tiktok hype! Extremely disappointing experience. We arrived on time for our 8pm booking and were told to wait outside for 15 minutes while other guests were asked to leave. When we were finally let in, the staff were rude and unwelcoming. We then waited another 10 minutes for a menu, and I was served my wine in a dirty glass, which was honestly shocking. Only after being seated did a staff member explain that the menu was a set menu where you are required to eat and pay for every dish. This was not made clear at all on the website or Instagram, which is where we booked after seeing the venue promoted. We had planned to have a few oysters and a bottle of wine, especially as I don’t like fish and we had already eaten. Despite explaining this multiple times, we were repeatedly told it was a set menu, making us feel pressured and extremely uncomfortable, as the food would clearly have been wasted. Eventually they agreed to let us order just oysters, but by then the atmosphere was already stressful. The entire evening felt tense and unenjoyable. We were anxious the whole time that we would still be charged a minimum of £20 per person for food we didn’t want, which completely ruined the experience. While we were still halfway through our wine, we were brought the card machine and asked to pay. At the end, when paying for the oysters, we said £15 for the single portion we had shared. The staff member questioned whether this was £15 each and had to ask the manager if that was acceptable, which was incredibly awkward. We explained several times that we were unaware it was a set menu and had eaten beforehand, but this was ignored. Since leaving, we’ve also discovered the venue has a hygiene rating of 1, which is very concerning given the dirty glass. Overall: poor communication, rude service, pressure to spend money, and a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Do your research before visiting and don’t rely on TikTok or Instagram hype.

A jazz bar with no jazz after 10pm on a Saturday night ?...in London. Maybe they should change their name or just make it clear. Save yourself a trip if you expect jazz hours for jazz

I remember this place fondly. We had all been drinking in central London after a friend's gig. It was a really successful night and we were enjoying ourselves. One of our party lived near The Dalston Jazz Bar and suggested we go there to carry on drinking. One of the reasons for our little detour (The Dalson Jazz Bar is really far away from where we actually stay) is because he said it was open pretty much all night long - result! It was already well past 1am and the place was jumping. It's pretty tiny inside but the atmosphere is absoloutely electric with DJs spinning some really cool jazzy tunes, lots of people around 25+ chatting, grooving and drinking. This was the perfect place for a late night retreat for the all-nighter party animal! I think we ended up leaving around 4am and it was still pretty busy and going strong. I wish there was a place like this near our flat, it would be perfect to be able to have a drink in a cool, hip kind of place, without being pretentious and not getting kicked out really early either. Awesome...

It might be to its credit that I have never actually heard any jazz in the jazz bar, I mean there's a time and a place for contemplative chin stroking and 6am on a Saturday morning in Dalston is definitely not it, anyway for hardcore fans there's the Vortex Jazz Club just around the corner. I think the jazz aspect is more in the atmosphere, name and decor than the music policy but either way this a great bar for any occasion. With its glass fronting, this bar is like a little fishbowl just off the high street, great for watching the strange goings on of Dalston (I once saw a huge police bust of the flat opposite whilst sitting safely inside, sipping a beer). The windows steam up on the super busy weekend, as the minuscule bar gets completely packed with locals and late night Shoreditch immigrants. Early in the evening, friendly bar staff in crisp white shirts and black tie serve up cheese and biscuits for free and it's a great place to chill out, with a usual selection of soul classics and a well stocked bookshelf. The low bar and random assortment of sofas and chairs give this place a really cosy living room feel.

It's 2 am, you're thirsty and still have 2 hours of dancing left in you. Where are you going to go? JAZZ BAR! This place is perfect. Roger the owner has great taste in furniture (20th Century) and Music (40's-Current) The mojitos are great and only £5 Its open in the week too and they give you free cheese and biscuits, and sometimes cake! Don't go if you are claustrophobic and don't like very close bodily contact with strangers, don't like it when places get a bit warm, don't like queuing for the loo. Also, good for people on the prowl for a new 'friend'...

The service was extremely poor. We bought a wowcher and the only way to redeem the voucher was booking the table via email. He refused to take bookings over the phone. Robert Beckford which was dealing with the enquiry and took about 4 days to respond to the email, if at all. When I asked to deal with someone that was willing to respond to my email/ inquiry he responded with this email: From Robert: Excuse me ! I have responded to your email: I think it's best for you to get a refund. The refund you get from the person you buy the voucher from: there you are I have dealt with your inquiry: have a nice day. Needless to say we attempting to get a refund.

Ha ha ha! The Jazz Bar in Dalston is a gem of a place. I say this as it is open until 6 am and when the party has ended everywhere else it continues here. You can find a whole host of characters, and quite a few dodgy ones on the weekend but generally the crowd is friendly. This venue is almost always packed and with no 'door charge' its one in one out after 12pm. The bar serves drinks in plastic cups and only has 2 toilets, which considering the amount of people they cram into this place is crazy. I think I really like the place because it doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It's a grubby bar that plays decent enough jazz, soul and old skool R n' B to keep you dancing for a couple of hours. If you want to go somewhere late at night and dance in complete strangers personal spaces, as so often I feel the need to do, then please go. I will see you there. NB. I have marked this place as 5 stars as it is beyond any expectation that you may have of such a place.

I've heard about this Dalston institution - But never seem to venture enough east and tend to stick to the haughts of Camden and with the central Shoreditchians but I'm glad I went on the hike to the Dalston Jazz Bar because it didn't disappoint. I would describe it as a fun-filled sweat box with lots of odd-ball characters thrown into the mix. No entry fee. Mojitos were served in large plastic pint glasses for only a fiver [My fave cocktail!], music was great and the barmen were dressed as sailors hahaha brilliant! if you seek - you will find...and probably won't leave until 6am the next morning. I'll visit again - Just for its randomness.

I've only been here once, but this has to be one of my favorite bars anywhere. The first time I saw this place I thought it was a crack house masquerading as a bar, as it looks pretty dodgy in daylight (eg one of the windows was smashed in). However, when I walked past later that night there was a total transformation. This place gets totally pumping, and when I was there the ambient air temperature was 5 or 10 degrees higher than outside due to the number of bodies they cram in. I wouldn't want to be here during a fire. The music is great, the people are cool (and the bouncers are good at kicking out the retards), the drinks are reasonably priced...it's just awesome. Don't plan on doing much except drinking and dancing.

Jazz Bar I love you so. If you were a boyfriend (which by the way I know a building cannot be a boyfriend, but let's pretend), you would be be a very foxy friend with benefits. I look you up every once in a while for a good fun time as we get on like a house on fire, but know that a long term relationship just is a very silly idea! I say this because although I adore Jazz Bar, I just couldn't go there every week. It's a tiny little heaving sweat box filled with happy drunk dancing people (or maybe it should be swaying people as there is just no space to throw shapes). Plastic pint cups of cocktails that are strong enough to kill a large horse served by bar men dresses up in sailor suits are just what the doctor ordered to keep the heaving masses merry. And you get very merry. It's just how it works in there. Down sides to the place is the lack of toilets and the fact that you look like a sweaty marathon runner after you leave. Oh, and the fact that they are charging £2 entry fee now. Don't go if you like a nice spacious classy bar full of refined banker types talking about SAT results and tax breaks though, because that just soooo isn't what this place is about. And that's why I love it so.

Total time there = 5 hours. Remembered time there next day = 10 minutes Amount of bacon needed to recover = lots Awesome

What a treat this place is. Live jazz over dinner and wine. It's a small place so it's quite loud if you sit in front of the band, conversation can be difficult. The service was friendly, the wine was good (£25 p/bottle) and there are no prices for food, you pay with a donation. On arrival we got some lovely focaccia bread, followed by non-stop food... I'm serious... Goats cheese tart, exotic vege platter, king prawns, crocodile, ostrich, some other meat stuff and couple of cakes for dessert. My food coma started after the first round, you don't get to choose what dishes you want other than vegetarian or meateater, so it's a surprise. The food has a home cooked feel rather than fine dining. Would come again.

I had a fantastic night here! Easily one of the best dance 'n drink experiences I've had in London. Why doth I love Dalston Jazz Bar so? An excellent soundtrack for one, starting with soul, moving to motown and then later (alas) some Cypress Hill. A slightly indecisive DJ at times, sure, but I guess that just added to the charm. Space to dance was another reason. We arrived sometime between 11 and 12, and there was plenty of space. A few punters too, but admirably dancing away in one part of the bar rather than standing around hiding behind drinks like a school disco. I mean, let's face it, dancing is far more fun when one has space to... 'express yourself' fully, something which in one's typical rammed club/pub one doesn't. It did fill up a little later but there was still space to move. Great crowd. By that I mean non-sleazy and there simply to have a good time. And friendly too - I got to know most of them, which just stoked the fun levels yet further. Add to that the friendly bar staff and door men and, wow. I confess I was hitherto a little unsure of Dalston's cool factor. Now I'm beginning to get it.

I'm a huge huge fan. There is little to no pretentiousness here despite being in the heart of Dalston and the music had us dancing all night long. They were splicing Lionel Ritchie with Sister Nancy and ABBA, then hitting up some Bob Marley and before you know it some French parlour music. Obviously that might just be the DJs we saw but any place that hosts such an eclectic mix is a fave of mine. They served some good rum. What let them down however is only having 2 toilets and they ran out of certain drinks pretty quickly and near the end switched to only selling bottles of beer for a fiver...a fiver!

Fantastic, even when you come on your own. For shure a great place and last reminecent of another time is this venue a jewel in old fashioned dinner-and-jazz etablisments! You order drinks and get fresh cooked food with it- whatever the chef likes to cook that day. And he does very nice african inspired experiments! As the bill shows only the drinks make shure you rise your tip high up. Very casual service, friendly and convinient. You can sit in their unique garden and watch the gangsters and hipsters strolling by or enjoy life music inside. Great decoration! After dinner this turns into a serious club until early morning and the chef turns into a DJ.

A brilliant space just behind Kingsland Road. It's a really unmade up venue that looks straight out of Berlin. The bar has bottles of beer in ice ready for you to take and the cocktails are brilliant at £4.50 before midnight and £5 afterwards. Comfy chairs and great funky music. Totally recommended.

Despite the fact that it has progressively with time, stopped playing jazz and mutated its music policy into a curious mix of electro pop and outright cheese, I still have a fondness for this establishment. Back when I first moved to Hackney it was the only place you could find a late night drink if you didn't want to go to a bashment club or try and ingratiate yourself into one of those private Turkish men's members' bars (you know the ones where the lights are on all night, and if the door is ajar there are always people playing pool?). The guy who owns it apparently has other ventures (but sadly, no website where you can find them!) and is the kind of person that you end up spending quite a lot of time talking to, despite the fact you came with a group of friends. Now, it's a well established drinking den for people who are on their way from other bars in the area but just want to go for 'one more drink' (famous last words). From the outside, it does look a bit like a university library or sixth form common room. Luckily though, it isn't crammed with teenagers. It's still Dalston's best kept secret for the nightcap brigade. The crowd is always a mish-mash of whoever has managed to stay up until the small hours; 'tourists' from Shoreditch, clubbers decompressing out of their hyper excited stage, ready for the ride home, people who have just come back from gallery after parties (of which there are many in Dalston), sleazy lone men, hoping to use the bar's diminutive to get a quick bit of female-loving frottage in before they go to bed. Don't be worried if you see a large queue on approaching. The 'crowd turnover' rate is quite high. Probably because of that sleazy guy

The smell of mojitos first alerted me to the presence of this bar - you can smell them from down the road! Tucked away nicely, cosy inside, delicious mojitos and good tunes means this bar is a great place to hang out! As it is quite small you are in danger of being squished when it reaches busy times (usually about midnight) so good luck gettign a table!

Could this be the best place to shake your tail feather in all the land? Possibly. It's hot, sweaty and sounds delicious with a super funky crowd. And the best thing about it? It doesn't close until the birds start atweeting. Prepare for a 6am homecoming. Too much fun.

Dalston Jazz Bar is situated at the very heart of the Dalston cultural renaissance. Nearby are the vortex jazz club, café oto, servants quarters, and the relocated CLR james library adjacent to the overground station, and across from there is the curve garden. Recently, arcola theatre has moved to Ashwin street next door to café oto. So all this and the new apartments going up. All this and also the cross-rail construction locally amounts to upscale development and urbane sophistication. So Jazz Bar Dalston has been very much a pioneer of this whole dynamic, opening in the area well-before all the aforementioned venues. Jazz Bar Dalston is a well-established jazz restaurant, which caters to the french model of plate du jour menu, which varies, offering dinner with wine and live jazz. After two sittings for dinner and the two sets of live jazz, the venue then transforms into a late club with djs, and room for dance floor. This formula along with the interior design etc and welcoming and professional staff, make this place a very popular draw within the hive of activity that Dalston has become. It is advisable to book early by phone to avoid disappointment, as the jazz bar Dalston is often fully booked.

It's hot, sweaty and packed with a buzzy party vibe - I have always had a good time here and meet friendly interesting people, I have to say I have a bit of a soft spot for the Jazz Bar. The music is good - generally a mix of swing/soul/funk with some downright cheesy numbers thrown in. The decor is 60s inspired rough and ready with big ice bins full of beer and a makeshift bar - the barmen even dress in sailor suits, sweeet. But be warned it can get so crowded that you can't move, and there is generally a massive queue for the loos.

Dined this evening for a friends birthday, on arrival the place was not as the website had lead us to believe but we took our seats anyways. The server was new but very friendly. The band were playing already and really they were amazing! We ordered some cocktails to start us off, we had not dined here before so didn't understand why we had not received menus but later realised this is due to the courses being a set menu and being brought out to be split across the table (myself and a friend have allergies and the manager was accommodating to these) however I stated I was vegetarian as well at this point and thought nothing more of this. The firsteal was a soup, very delicious but then the birds started to come. I waited for my veggie option but nothing came. The next bird course came out and again, no veggie option... I asked my waitress when mine would be coming and she smile but never returned. Eventually a small sweet pats to curry came out, it was clearly a side order and as it was the only vegetable dish on the table we could tell this wasn't in fact my main. The curry was very well done and one of the best I have in fact ever had, I would have loved to have had a main course of this it alas thT was not the case. Lastly came the brownie dessert which again was amazing. All in all the rest of the table loved their meal so for any meat eaters the place seemed amazing but as a non meat eater I would score this a 3/10. The minimum charge is £20 which I paid and the others paid higher! I did however find it cheeky that I paid £20 for 1 Patagonia, a bowel of soup and a brownie... Over all the table loved their meal and the band really were amazing. Would strongly not recommend to any vegetarians considering.

Oh. My. God... which oneeayyaallll wants to: 1) wait 15 minutes in the line outside 2) enter to find it so hot you have to strip down to your knackers 3) discover you dont feel like wrangling your way to the bar to get a drink so you just rock on with the music (no jazz I heard), sweat it all out, and embrace the hot sweaty vibe of the #1 afterparty in the east. oh, by the way, there's a hair salon right across the street SAVVY & Something that seemed to have just as good and jammin a party as DJB. Was tempted to head over and get some of that.

This is the worst place ever. They wouldn't accept my voucher I purchased on Yelp and was shouted at by the owner for attempting to use it, and then chased me out of the bar and shouted at me all the way down the street.

They kicked us out half way through the meal and wouldn't accept our yelp voucher- and shouted at us. That's one place I wish I had never been to!

Can't remember the whole night but I do remember the music was decent and the drinks were a plenty, (only stayed an hour and a half) 3 STAR just to be safe!!!

Anytime of night (well, until 3 or 4 am at least), there always ssems to be a queue outside this place. That's partly because it's one of the few places open on this stretch of Kingsland road at such an hour, and partly because once you're inside you'll probably be bopping around to dancefloor jazz, reggae, hip hop and general party music whilst making new friends (it's always crowded, so you HAVE to make new friends!). On the downside the staff can be VERY surly, often throwing people out for no reason, and some of the punters can be horrible too (like i say it's crowded), and the drinks maybe a little too expensive, but then if you're on a mission late at night in dalstonbasically it's a place to get drunk.

Awww yeah, fail safe "HEY I'M STILL IN PARTY MODE AND DETERMINED TO DRINK TILL I GO BLIND" place in East open forever apparently. More than a couple of times I've rocked up here at an ungodly hour, being inappropriately loud while clutching an empty bottle and demanded entry. A lot of nights it is still shockingly rammed at 3am but if you're hell bent on continuing the party then go here. Probably don't go here if you're not hot on close contact, sweat, being accidentally groped and public toilet hygiene, but otherwise, all hail The Jazz Bar!

This place gets packed. It's not the biggest space though, so it's to be expected. It reminded me a bit of a garage - with big glass windows and lots of steel. Drinks were on the pricey side I thought, especially as it seems like such an amateur set up. The music was cool, a mix of reggae and hip-hop when I was there - a unique place that's worth a visit

Where else can you go at 3am for a couple of beers?

DO GO THERE... I've been going to the Jazz bar Dalston for several years now, some people are haters and walk away others love it.. they have great cocktails for which you don't have to wait too long and are reasonably priced. Yes it does get packed and you do get to meet new people and make friends. Unlike some sterile places in Dalston where it's all about looks and style fascists.... One word of caution dress like it's summer cause it does get hot in there.

We went for dinner on Saturday after buying LivingSocial vouchers. We were worried after reading some awful reviews of the place, however we had a nice time so I thought it would be fair to write a review to let people know of our experience. We arrived at 7.30pm as booked - nice and quiet chose a table at the back of the restaurant. The cocktails were good and well priced at £6 (£4 during the week apparantly). It took a while to order, we tried 3 times, the first 2 times we were told the chefs were not ready yet - we could see this as it is an open plan kitchen (nice touch). When the waitress did take our order she would only take one course at a time - meaning after our starters she cleared our table, brought us another round of drinks, then took our main order. We didnt get out pudding until gone 10pm. The food was good - I had quail to start, followed by roast pork - both very good. I chose mango crumble for pudding which was different. Apparantly the usual price is around £20 for the three courses, so we saved approx £4.50each by purchasing the LivingSocial voucher - alot less of a saving than it claimed. Downsides were the slow service - but we had intended to spend the evening there so didn't mind too much - and the temperature of the venue. It was v cold outside to be fair, but we had unintentionally sat by the door - and the restaurant over the road had toilet issues so everyone needing the loo was coming in to use the loo in the jazz bar. Nice of the management to allow this, shame they didnt have better heaters. My friend kept his coat on the whole evening and we left because we were cold. To be fair, the waitress had asked us early in the evening if we wanted to move closer to the band - we think this may have been code for 'it will get busy and you are by the door and will get cold' - but we didn't pick up on this and thought we could have better conversation etc a little further away. Wish she had been a bit clearer! It was a good atmosphere, there was a jazz trio playing which was nice. It began to fill up as we were leaving, we left at 11pmish, however the place is open until 5am. I don't doubt that it is a good place to party and that it will warm up in due course! Bottom line, I would go again for cocktails and sit on another table. The food was nice, but slow service, so I would probably eat before going and then enjoy the awesome cocktails.

Located a mere stones throw from Dalston Kingsland Station (and come 2010 Dalston Junction Station), this tiny bar is one of Hackney's most hidden gems. A once quiet and relatively unknown late night jazz bar spinning jazz, blues, r & b and early soul classics, word has spread of the compelling ambience (and near 24 hour opening hours) of this bar. Open seven days a week, the resident DJ's know and love the tunes they play, and drink them up like the cocktails that are on 'special offer' daily and come in dangerously bucket sized jugs, and the bar staff have been known to jive on the bar come the early hours. Expect long queues at the weekends to get in, for the bar, and the unisex toilets. This is the perfect venue for those 1.00am 'I want to continue drinking and dancing' evenings. If you do manage to get a seat on the much coveted sofa, then peruse the large collection of encyclopaedias, Dickens novels and cookery books than inhabit the large bookshelf. This place has a special place in my heart as I fell drunkenly in love here one balmy summer night at around 4am; sadly that lasted scarcely longer than the rum, but the memory is still vivid. I've lost count of the many Northern European poets, artists and troubadours I've met here; it seems travellers find their way to these sweaty four walls. With bottles of beer £3 a go, and £7 cocktail jugs this place is an absolute must visit.

This weekend take a straw poll among the passengers of any bus heading up the Kingsland road after midnight and I'll warrant the majority are heading for the Vortex. Famed for its early morning closing times, a stop, a bop and a cocktail here is the perfect way to wind down a hectic night in the city centre. Invariably filled with punters way beyond a fire safety officer's worst nightmares, this little space plays host to DJs spinning jazz, soul and old school hip-hop mixtape favourites, with the crush contributing to the house party feel of the place. Another defining feature of the Vortex is the way that while standing outside for a smoke, or in the queue, the high windows on every side allow you to watch all sorts of goings-on that would normally be hidden in dark corners. A tip: ask how much a double shot would be in your capirinha and, depending on the barman you get, you'll usually get twice that for about a pound extra, plus a wink and a smile.

Well, we were having a good time (even though it smells of armpit) until the owner forcefully seperated my friend from our group, surrounded her with the bouncer and shouted abuse at her for not kissing his friend. I thought he was going to punch her. Extremely frightening and upsetting.

Staff were heard telling people to F off. Bar was extremely over crowded and the music was at a dangerously loud level. No chill out or smoking area (other than the street, where you cannot take drinks). Generally full of very drunk 20-25 year-olds moving their heads to the music. And, naturally, no jazz!

Very unfortunate to have experienced this place - one of the most disappointing and disastrous evenings out in years! If you ever see a deal on the likes of Living Social, Groupon, et al, leave well alone, even if it's free. Took ages to book and the owner was very uncompromising, albeit he promised to sort something out. The food was very poor: bland, poorly presented and not as described on the menu. The dessert was supposed to be served hot and with strawberries and cream, but turned up cold and with mashed raspberries with a poor excuse for a drizzle of single cream - it was like the person pouring it was a tad shy, saying, "We've got cream but you're not having any and to prove it, we're just going to put a spit on your plate!" Stopped a waitress to point out it should be strawberries and cream and not raspberries and she said "Well, we haven't got any." I asked why we weren't informed instead of just being served with an alternative and what if we had been allergic to raspberries? "Oh yeah," she said, "didn't think of that." She walked off. We asked a waiter to have the cake re-heated, remove the mashed raspberries and pour a generous helping of cream over the cake. However, the cake came back cold again and by this time we were exasperated. Again, I mentioned that it was still cold and the waiter shrugged his shoulders and walked off! Incredulous. The service was horrendous. Only consolation was the jazz set during dinner which, unfortunately, didn't last that long before they took a break but we were ready to run for the hills by then. Even if I saw it offered free, I would run a mile in the opposite direction. Got to be the worst place I have had the displeasure to visit. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. I didn't want to give it any stars but couldn't post the review without one :(

People need to get over to the Dalston Jazz Bar on Bradbury St. You ge tto go on a mini safari without even leaving the dining table - Zebra steak was particularly piff.

Although I was excited and optimistic about trying out the Dalston Jazz Bar, I was extremely disappointed and really wish I would have read the reviews online. I never really write reviews for things, but I thought the word needed to be spread on this business to maybe spare a couple people their time and effort. After checking ON THEIR WEBSITE that it was free to get in before midnight, we showed up around 11 pm, where the bouncer told us it was 3 pounds... (what..?) So we asked him to clarify - he said it was 3 pounds before midnight and 5 pounds after. We were a bit confused, so we stepped off to the side with our group to pull up the webpage on our phones. Sure enough, it was their webpage, and it said it was free before midnight, as it did before. We proceeded to show the bouncer, to which then he then began to come up with a bunch of horrible, pathetic excuses ("that's not out website," etc.). We asked to speak to the manager, as these are obviously dodgey business practices, and their website was false-advertising, and he said that we couldn't. He seemed to think he was above us in some sort of way. Umm... buddy? You're working at the door. You work for a business, in which you should be trying to make the customer happy, not the other way around. Anyway, we ended up going to the Alibi, where we got in free right away. Don't go here; try Vortex Jazz Club in Dalston or any other place before you go here. The people are pricks, and the venue is tiny anyway. I just can't believe a business would operate like this.

I purchased this deal a few weeks back. Every time I tried to make a booking with Robert he said that he was fully booked. After two weeks of trying I received an email response from him. When I tried to confirm this booking I didn't hear from him for 4 days. I tried calling the restaurant and when I finally got through he stated very rudely ,"If you emailed me then I will respond to you through email" and then hung up the phone. On the fifth day of finally getting through to him the booking was made. The menu was looked at online so so knew what food they had. Upon arriving at the restaurant the waitress said that the menu had changed. Not only was the entire menu different to what was online but they only had to main course. One which was pork which for religious reason I do not eat and they ran out of chicken so made a substitute which was RABBIT. I do not eat rabbit either. I asked if there were any other substitutions or food items that I could purchase if they were not on the voucher and I was told no. I even asked if I could have two of the starters since I couldn't eat any mains and again I was told no and that they had run out of a lot of food. Robert then told the waiter that I should of arrived at the restaurant earlier and I would of got food that I wanted and that I booked for 7:30. This is completely incorrect. After him sending various people to tell us no he finally came over when my partner got very upset and stated that the voucher does not guarantee us food but an invitation to eat. He claimed he was a lawyer as well. Then he said Incan return to living social and get a refund. So I drove all the way from South East London to be told I could leave .
