Where to Eat and Drink on a Roof in London

"Beers from 40FT Brewery, natural wines aplenty, and supporting a local charity? We’re there. Dalston Roof Park not only has all the makings for a good time, all profits go back into Bootstrap Charity, which supports new small businesses, social enterprises and start-ups. As well as providing the backdrop to a great night any day of the week, keep eyes peeled for film screenings and daytime DJ sets later in summer." - Daisy Meager

Decent little rooftop bar. It’s lost a little of its charm and raised prices since the refurbishment, becoming a bit barren and bare in the process. Hopefully a few potted plants, decorations and fun events will fix it.

This was a really impressive space. The trek up the stairs took a little bit of work, but once up on the roof it's a great space. Will be lovely in the summer when it's fully opened up. I imagine it gets quite busy on nice days, but it's a relatively large space so I expect it can accommodate a lot. There also seems to be a linked venue space, which may provide for overflow from the main roof park bar. The bar was dog friendly, though getting our dog upstairs to the top without a lift took effort and patience. They were showing sport on screens when we were there (during the six Nations), but it was not overpowering. Definitely would recommend and hope to go back soon once it's sunny.

Nice venue for drinks and chatting, but the speakers were garbage. The chips from the Greek place were overpriced - £5.50 for some standard canteen chips with a drizzle of sauce on top. Wraps looked better but didn't try. Awful toilets, most of them out of order so huge queues, and the sink was blocked. Super friendly crowd, nice games to play. Good beer. Not wheelchair accessible.

Great location no booking required, just a queue out front that moves quickly! Great atmosphere/ lights/ music and really quick at the bar for drinks and snacks etc. Really comprehensive drinks menu and a unique food menu from ceviche to sausage rolls. Really great cocktail selection with classic cocktails and signature ones available. The host Gemma is extremely friendly and helpful and sets a fantastic tone on arrival (especially within covid restrictions) she made it so easy to understand how everything works!

I purchased tickets to yesterday’s music event at this venue months ago and the security have made it a horrible experience. They decided to not let me in because of traces of weed and tobacco at the bottom of my bag.. after being thoroughly searched they haven’t found anything on me (since I didn’t have anything). The head of the security called Simon, was extremely rude and didn’t care about the fact that I haven’t had any drugs on me and treated me like some sort of drug dealer at the entrance and refused entry. I understand that there is zero drug policy although other people, including my friends weren’t searched almost at all therefore I believe there must have been a different issue, possibly some sort of discrimination towards me which made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

Such a nice rooftop! Gordo's pizza is delicious and the whole place has a great buzz about it.. good tunes, cheap enough drinks and the staff are all sound!

Yelp
Dalston Roof Park feels like a tiny, well-kept secret. It sort of is. To get here, one has to navigate a confusing warren of hallways and elevators through what feels like a building full of NGO and charity offices, cross some fire escapes, and then emerge onto the roof. I'd give you directions but I've already forgotten the way. Still, it was a fun adventure, and it yielded a neat London space. There are nice views out across Dalston, south over Haggerston, east to Hackney and London Fields, and north toward Stokey. The roof itself is covered with astroturf and has little planter boxes of herbs and veggies, and a ramshackle bar with an enticing cocktail menu. There are quite a few places to sit and enjoy the fresh air and views. I went in the middle of December with a friend who was ill, so staying to hang out for a while wasn't an option, but I will definitely be back in summer!

Yelp
Drinks: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Decor & Style: 5/5 Great view at night and very casual, relaxed environment to chill with a group of friends. I still recommend going early so you can grab a table. Large selection of drinks and the service is quick! Great open area where you can sit on the ground as well for the ones that want to truly relax and even laydown! Very different rooftop bar from what I am used to. See the great view of the pic I took at night time.

Yelp
This rooftop bar, mini cinema and mini-allotment is an amazing new London landmark and well worth a visit. Along similar lines to The High Line in New York's Meatpacking district, it is a long series of roofs covered with turf, plants, white picket fences and places to sit and enjoy the urban skyline. The view from the top is particularly interesting, as it gives a perspective on London you don't often see. Dalston's many crumbling old buildings alongside trendy new flats can be seen as well as more familiar sights in the distance on a clear day. I'm told there is an outdoor cinema on the roof on certain days, but it looks at present like the owners are still figuring out how best to use the space. Growbags full of germinating strawberries and other fruit and veg are everywhere, while the roof itself is solar powered - and it is clear that they plan to be as self-sufficient as possible. At present, the Roof Park operates on a members-only basis. It will be really interesting to see what happens here!

Yelp
Great atmosphere, however the end of our night was completely ruined when a bar staff was shockingly rude to us. I've never been cursed at so freely in my entire life. We were a group of 12, all in our late twenties and were respectful and obliging throughout the evening. We all left hanging our heads and with a very bad taste in our mouths. We will not be returning. Plenty of other cool bars around the area so would not bother with this one. Atmosphere is one thing, but needs to be accompanied with well-mannered staff at the very least. Very disappointing.

Yelp
This past weekend was my first time out in Dalston and I'm completely enamoured by the area so I probably have a huge bias. That being said, it's pretty hard not to love Dalston Roof Park. Entry: Went around 2200, there was a slight queue (~5 mins), and a £5 cover charge. Location: It was around 4 floors up. No lift unfortunately, but the staircase itself is charming with cute characters/phrases painted on the wall. As the name suggests, it's actually a park up top, with astro turf to boot meaning you don't need to worry about mud. In my mind, there are 2 distinct areas to the park, each with its own bar. There's the covered bit to the left (of the entrace). This is where the music was louder, and people were dancing etc. There was also a large screen and they apparently have movie screenings on certain nights. Then there's the chilled out area to the right which is pretty much just grass with some seating. I absolutely adore the furniture here. It's basically tiny plastic chairs, clearly designed for little kids, and things that resemble overturned stools (but not really...) as tables (which can double as chairs). The seating is surprisingly comfy, and just a lot of fun. Sitting on the grass is totally viable as well, and if you're against a wall such that you can use it as a backrest, ideal almost. Drinks: Fairly standard price. First ordered a beer and a double vodka ginger beer and it was 10 and change for both. Got a nice rum based cocktail with watermelon next for 7 pounds which I really liked. Notes: Shuts early (midnight on weekends, even earlier on weekdays apparently) which is annoying but at least there's lots more to do in Dalston. Bar shut around 2330 (I think), and they start to suggest you leave from around 2345. (Said suggestion went from mild to notably stronger within 5 mins) There was a long toilet queue when I went. They have 4 cubicles (unisex) which is a decent ish amount for the size of the place I would think (it's not very big) but clearly that isn't the case. (I might have just picked a bad time) Love the crowd as well. I'm aching to go back before the summer ends.

Yelp
Dalston Roof Park's Summer reopening kicks off this Friday (20th May) as a Midsummer Night's Screen presents a series of outdoor film screenings with a musical twist - they all feature outstanding soundtracks scored by well-known musicians. Before the main event itself, an independent short film will also be screened. The first in the series is 'Half Nelson' (2006), which features music by Broken Social Scene. As if that wasn't enough - there will be an al fesco barbecue, bar, DJ and decorations galore! So don those blankets and head to Dalston for an evening of fantastic Summer-ry entertainment. Yelp
Go here! That is all... but seriously its top-banana. I went here first in July last year, I booked some tickets for an evening of stand-up comedy, the weather wasn't great and I had no idea what to expect, who could! When I arrived, there was this charming roof top bar come live performance venue. The bar was a converted garden shed and at the other end of the roof top there was the performance space. They had a large inflated roof that they erected to shelter everyone from the rain and people were sat on an eclectic mix of seats as the comedy unfolded. All in all it was a great nght, it was impossible for the rain to damped anyone's spirit, not just because of the quality of entertainment, but also because of the quirky and unique-ness of the venue you can only make you smile. There programme of events always promises something for everyone, follow them on Twitter or sign up to the mailing list and get yourself to the Dalston Roof Park.
