The Most Underrated Restaurants in Denver - Eater Denver

"With Damascus Grill’s three locations across the metro area, finding traditional Middle Eastern food is no longer a chore. The Kassir family, owners of the trio of restaurants, hail from Syria and bring the flavors of their home country to Denver. On the menu: hummus, baba ghanoush, stuffed grape leaves, kebab, falafel, and more favorites from the Middle East." - Rebecca Treon

On our first visit to this charming establishment, my family and I were filled with anticipation. The interior was aesthetically pleasing, and the warm ambiance was evident in the decorations. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a not so friendly attitude, as we were unfamiliar with the menu. When we inquired about the specific ingredients in certain dishes, the staff responded in a manner that seemed condescending, treating us as if we were incapable of understanding. We ordered an avocado smoothie, requesting that it be prepared without honey due to my mother’s diabetes. However, the staff expressed displeasure when we asked for honey on the side. They responded, “Why don’t you want honey inside? I guess we can do that?” Our entire experience was marred by this incident. While we waited for our food, other customers were greeted with kindness and friendliness. Upon returning home, my toddler eagerly tried the cheese sticks. Unfortunately, she began gagging and spit out the food, revealing hair inside. This discovery caused us significant disgust, as we were horrified to find hair in our food. Consequently, we decided to discontinue consuming the remaining meal.

Kaya our server was wonderful, her smile lights up the room! On a hot 90•+ evening we came for gyros, garlic dip with pita and their famous Dubai chocolate & pistachio drink. The food was fresh & fast to arrive, we ended the meal with a yummy baklava. You can tell this place is awesome because before we finished dinner there was not an empty table!

Google
The food was delicious food. Tasted home made and kitchen fresh. The portion sizes are great. Definitely enough for two. Eat my fill and had some left over.

Google
Overall good experience. Food was delicious, especially the hummus which is done two ways essentially and I highly recommend. The gyros are standard fare, good, and filling.

Google
An unexpected gem. Great middle eastern cuisine. We had the Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, stuffed grape leaves & harisssa soup. All were fresh and authentic. LOVED IT!!!

Google
I was going ti give this place 3 stars because we personally didn’t like the food but other might. Our issue is the way the gyro meat and the falafel was spiced (something sweet like cinnamon or…?). The falafel was also really overcooked and dry. Well when we got to the baklava there was a giant hair sticking out from the nut layer. Gross and disappointing. We won’t be getting food again.

Yelp
Glad to see this delightful place open up in such a convenient location for us, on Littleton Blvd! We were sad to see the previous place close in this location a while ago, so having another middle-eastern place in the same spot is highly appreciated. We shared an order of Chicken Shawarma, a sampler plate, and a Greek salad, and enjoyed our meal quite a lot! It was fun to have a nice sampling of several different delicious foods in our meal. We loved being able to just drive up and park in their cozy parking lot out front

Yelp
This is the worst restaurant I've been to in Denver. 1. Chicken wings appetizer was so small. They used the most anorexic chickens and put them out of their misery. 2. Entrees are the so small I thought that our nation was at war and I was given meager rations.

Yelp
Probably one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants I've ate at. My favorite used to be Jerusalem's near DU, now it completely pales in comparison. First, we had a cucumber salad which was amazing and fresh. Followed by a kofta kabob and gyro plate. Both had the freshest softest pita. The baba ganoush was also one of the best that I've had. The meat was super juicy and moist without being dried out and like I've had at other places. The white garlic sauce had an amazing flavor and even the rice really hit the spot. My 4 and 6-year-olds loved everything about the meal including the strawberry drink they have and the lemon mint is extremely refreshing. And this is my new favorite restaurant..

Yelp
Had a sensational Greek meal at Gyros Town today. Loved the huge salad that comes with the entree full of fresh cucumbers and tomatoes with a nice light dressing. Everything tasted very fresh. The gyro entree came with hummus that was creamy, well seasoned and plentiful of olive oil for pita dipping. The gyro meat was tasty and nicely spiced. Don't think I have ever seen the French Fries style meat cut but didn't take away from the flavor. The yellow rice under the gyro meat was a complete miss for me with an off taste I could not identify. It may have been the water it was cooked in. Nonetheless I loved the meal and great service

Yelp
I miss Damascus. Food is so overpriced and poorly prepared. We paid over $60 for 3 ridiculously small sandwiches and a salad. We also order hummus which had way too much tahini in it and came with one single piece of pita. Not going back.

Yelp
The location makes you think it's going to be fast food. It's nice inside with nice décor. They make things fresh, so it is not a quick meal. It took quite some time to get a soda. Some of the servers weren't sure what the ingredients were, but someone with knowledge came to answer our questions. The food was tasty and plentiful.

Yelp
Love Gyros Town in Denver. So glad they opened one in Littleton. Food delicious, and friendly service ordering my to go order. They are newly opened and renovated. I ordered the gyros entree and a side order of french fries. So good!

Yelp
Based on reviews from the other locations I thought this was going to be a sure win. Three things were ordered gyros sandwich, Fatoush gyro salad and the appetizer sampler. Lets be clear nothing was bad but nothing was good either. Appetizer hummus was good but not nearly so as the gyros and grill up at Southwest plaza. Saffron rice had little flavor, falafel ok but seemed like it had been fried quite a while ago. The other dips were just not very interesting Main courses. The gyros disappointed. They say rotissery cooked and sliced so why did all of our meat came out cut in steak french fry like chunks. Gryos is supposed to be shaved in say 1 in by 2 inch slices ideally about an 1/8 of an inch thick. One side should have a lightly crispy carmalized side. This looked and tased like it was cooked as a loaf and cut into the strips. Pita, onions sauce all quite good. Sorry when Renizios product is superior as at least you can see them cook it and shave it you have a problem. I was even told that for serving they take the cut slices and heat it up on the flat top... Thats an epic fail.

Yelp
Food was good, but did not blow me away. Service was polite but slow. Pita seems store bought and portions were small; asked for a refill and received only a single piece. They had no ice, served bottled waters instead which was weird. The space itself lacks ambiance; very basic, but clean.

Yelp
Had the chicken gyro and it was perfect. The place is a lot nicer inside than the previous biz that was there, but it's still just casual. I also ordered the hummus which is great but you are going to want 2 or 3 extra pita. Prices were good and they were really fast with my takeout order both times I ordered. Only took 5 or 10m for chicken shawarma.

Yelp
Just had an Gyros and it was excellent. Look forward to trying other items on their menu. My to go item was made quickly Ambiance - Well its cozy and definitely a neighborhood restaurant.

Yelp
Went there for lunch, and the food was so good we ordered dinner to go as well (and yes, it was excellent too). Hat's off to our server, Kaya, who managed a full restaurant and still got the food to us quickly and very kindly. We'll be back!

Yelp
Food was tasty with plenty of it. A great to addition to Littleton, polite, pleasant, and timely service!
