Damenzo's Pizza

Old school restaurant, located on the corner of the block. Parking not the easiest, but I was fortunate enough to park right in front. Let me tell you, Damenzo's is not shy with cheese. Everything is absolutely blanketed with mozzarella here. Slices were cut in like 6 oddly shaped pieces, but definitely a sizeable portion. The "pizza puff" here is not what you think a pizza puff is. It's a calzone. And it could feed 2 people easily. The Gym Shoe was an average sandwich, it came with gyro meat, italian beef and corned beef, topped with grilled onions and you guessed it, more cheese baked right onto the bread. But there was too much going on here to really have one of the three meats stand out. Damenzo's was a nice place to check out. Wasn't exactly what I thought it would be, but I liked it.

There is always something for everyone. Damenzo’s is by far one of my favorite pizza spots in Chicago. Great quality food. Italian style sauces. Love this place. I grew up in the neighborhood and now I live far away but I always like to come back to building new memories while also reminiscing to my little ones about all the special moments I had here. I’m so happy to see Dominic’s restaurant still here. Only very little changes. Just how I like it.

My husband and I are in our home town doing big back activities! We ordered a jumbo beef, dipped sweet and hot peppers with mozzarella cheese and a cheese fry. Did I say hand cut fries? The only way a restaurant should serve fries. We dined in and enjoyed everything! The table next to us had the biggest pizza that I’d ever seen! 10/10 would recommend!

The Italian beef is excellent! They load you up with meat and cheese. It’s way too much for one person to eat but it’s well worth it! Would definitely recommend! Some of the staff seemed kind of rude but I think it’s just their personality and background but I won’t let that stop me from going.

I usually love Damenzo’s but I was lied to today. I asked when there would be fresh pizza out, he said “Yeah the pizza is fresh” I get to work and it’s old, the cheese and bread is hard and burnt at the bottom.

I ordered a combination with no peppers and no cheese. Plus a juicy Italian beef with American cheese, no peppers and a small French fries. I asked to shred the beef and was told it's already shredded as good as it could get. When I got home to eat the cheesy beef. It was full of peppers 🌶 😕. I pulled out as many as I could because I didn't want to drive all the way back to return it, plus I checked to make sure the combo didn't have peppers on it. If it had, I would have definitely taken everything back. I could only eat a portion of it and stopped because my stomach started hurting 😫. I normally have no issues, but yesterday's meal was horrible. Damenzo's isn't Damenzo's anymore. 👎 I'm diabetic and can't eat spicy hot foods, so that's why I'm righting this review. Spent $30 and some change.

Highly recommended this place if you trying to get what your money worth pretty larger pizza for the family and 🤤delicious.

Been around for years. It's a west side classic. The huge pizza puff is a head turner. Their Italian beefs....oh my goodness. Get one and thank me later. There's nothing I don't like. When you have a tasty for good stick to your ribs food this is where you should go.

I called for delivery for a STUFFED pizza and the guy on the phone said "We dont make stuffed pizzas"(its in their menu) Then delivery got here 2 hrs later and driver said "were at the corner. your address doesnt exist can you walk to the corner" I waved him down n made him come to my home. Driver dropped the cc machine and they had to call the restaurant to get my card to go through. I open the pizza n the pizza was cold and cheese was shifted over. I called the restaurant n the same guy who took my order wanted me to place a NEW order instead of passing the manager the phone. I tell him why i needed to speak to the manager and he translates. I tell him I speak Spanish and want to speak to him directly and not have a translator. Manager was like ill give you a discount NEXT TIME I said no I want a refund. They said the option was theyll send a new pizza or they come get our current pizza for refund. Ive ordered many times before and understand if its busy but TWO hours for delivery is unacceptable. Also, this is NOT a stuffed pizza. Not even close

Stumbled upon this place and I'm glad I did! It's a nice little pizza/mexican place. The entrance leads you to the ordering area. We got a peperoni slice and a sausage slice with cheese fries with a blackberry Dr Pepper and a strawberry cream Dr Pepper. The pizza was great, nice and cracker thin. The staff was very friendly.

I visited the store on November 2. I am Korean and went with my mom and dad. I was scared because it was late and it was my first time on a trip to Chicago. But the pizza tasted fantastic. I was going to take it, but I felt the warmth of the pizza and decided to eat it. A really sooooo cute staff member gave us plates and gave us more cheese (actually wanted to get his Insta ID!!!!!)

The over weight dude tried over charging me on a pop and a grilled chicken sandwich lol. Been coming here for a min talking about " the guy just changed the prices right now" 17.80$ for a grilled chicken sandwich and a can pop? new ppl ,looks filthy in there. No gloves grabbing my chicken.

They're food has been great value for me, for more than 35 years. But I only eat at the original location. my favorite food is a Calzone

Ok-So, who substituted pizza-hut for my Chicago-style pizza order? I don't know, but anyone who's familiar with double-crust style pizza knows that if you order Chicago-style-stuffed pizza, you are ordering a meal. I'm Swedish, but like most people from Lincoln Park 60614, I know my way around a pizza menu. But being practical, I do like to have more than one pizza option, so I decided to order a stuffed pizza from a different restaurant than the usual suspect Giordano's while delicious- they skimp on some of the vegetable fixings, so you won't be very happy if you order anything other than cheese-stuffed-chicago-style-pizza as there weren't much spinach in the spinach-stuffed-pizza from previous orders so I simply started ordering the pizza in plain cheese although I have tried the mushroom and also the spinach to give other flavors a try- And being a Chicago favorite, I ordered a Cheese Chicago-style stuffed pizza, very specifically in the wording and request based on the menu options from the restaurant, Damenzo's which being near the UIC-downtown campus in UICvillage/tri-taylor in Chicago, IL located near west-campus near the medical library, etc. But unfortunately what was delivered was more of a pizza-hut-style-cheesey-crust flatbread-looking-type- pizza. Even focaccia-style-tomato bread would have been better, but it was so disappointing that I didn't even want to try the pizza that arrived, at all, although the manager was eventually able secure a refund based on the complaint. It was still early so I went ahead and ordered the stuffed favorite from Giordano's also near downtown-Chicago, but as typical with usual success as they deliver- despite the complaint being that the current 2024 chicago-style stuffed pizzas are no longer following the original double-top-and-bottom-crust recipe, but you will get a bottom crust stuffed pizza-pie but without the top- I don't know how long this has been going on exactly, as some restaurants will custom cater special orders including for stuffed pizza, but as is at present, it's kindof like getting a vegan potpie without a bottom crust- and anyone who likes potpie knows that a real potpie, even/especially vegan, has a double crust feature also, btw- but that is another rant/complaint for another issue. So, unfortunately grade D-minus for wrong order processed. And it looked awful, so I didn't risk trying it, however Thank you again for the refund. I am simply very disappointed that I will have to look elsewhere for alternative pizza options in the downtown area than the established local eateries near university.

I was very leery of ordering because there's some tough reviews. I decided to give them a chance because location was important. Pizza was piping hot when I picked it up. Looked great, tasted good too. Workers were nice and friendly when I went in to grab it. I'd def order again.

Pretty authentic tacos rice and beans, friendly staff, really fast service, great hours, perfect for after perfect for after Riot Fest My friend and I went to Damenzo's after Riot Fest, as it was one of the only food places near Douglass Park that open late and wasn't a fast-food chain. I wasn't really in the mood for pizza, but thankfully Damenzo's is much more than a pizza restaurant! As we walked inside, we noticed they had a full menu of classic taqueria menu items. Burritos, rolled tacos, tacos, etc. It was so awesome to see that people craving either pizza or Mexican food could be satisfied! I went with the classic 3 tacos with rice and beans. The folks who took my order behind the counter were clearly very busy, but also polite and eager to help. After ordering, the food arrived promptly. These tacos gave me a vibe of basic/essentials, done well for a restaurant that has 'pizza' in the name. There was nothing groundbreaking, but it was just a perfect meal after a long day. The salsas were definitely on the spicier side, which I really appreciated! The rice wasn't as soft as homemade rice, but still had a really nice flavor. Overall, I would recommend place is great for late-night munchies if you're in the area!

Been going here for years. Though,recently the customer service has been piss poor!!! I called to order a pizza on a Sunday afternoon. Someone answered. Then hung up on me! I called back to order and address someone hanging up on me. They then hung up again!!! I went to the store! Spoke with a manager!! He was very dismissive and almost didn't acknowledge I was complaining about someone clearly working at the counter!!! Don't spend your money where you're not respected!!!! Period!!! Foods been sloppy lately as well. Not the pizza though. Presentation has been poor and doesn't taste like they even care about what they give to customers!!!

Best Italian beef sandwiches in Chicago. It's kinda expensive but it's so good!! Haven't had their pizza in years but I remember I loved it when I had it

I absolutely love this place... I subtracted a star, the Italian beef this specific evening (1-21-22) was a lil extra salty.. The beer helped wash it down a bit. Other than that, I love the variety of food options, the cooks are amazing! And the girls at the front are nice. I highly recommend, having whatever you order with a beer!!

As a child, my wife and her family used to come here for pizza. She had never tried their Italian beef until yesterday. We got 2 beefs, one with American cheese and sweet peppers. The other with mozzarella cheese and hots peppers. Over the years, we've been getting beefs from portillo's and Bueno beef. I must admit the beef from damenzos was the worst I've ever had. If you didn't know it was a beef, you'd think you were eating wet soggy bread. No flavor or texture whatsoever. The only thing good about the beef with hot peppers was it was a little spicy. Fire the cook or show them how to flavor their beefs. I'll NEVER buy another Italian beef from Damenzos on Taylor St. Ever again!!! Simply horrible!

Check, check and check one more time on prices. On Damenzo's website it lists linguini and clam sauce for $9.95. When I picked my order up at the restaurant it came to $16.40. I asked about the discrepancy and just got two shrugs from two different people. I asked who do I need to talk with to get the prices updated. One person shrugged again and the other said he talked with the owner about updating the site. I asked for a number so I could call and speak with someone about it. No one seemed to have the number available. According to staff the prices haven't been updated since "since 2004". I don't know if that's true. I'm just glad I had enough on me to pay for my order.

the restaurant that had my favorite italian beefs closed due to covid and when i tell you i ate one from demenzos today and i didnt know there could be another one even better then the one i use to eat thank you I highly recommend staff is friendly great service great prices

If you like a lot of food with left overs for at least 2 more meals, Damenzo's is the spot. Great Italian Beef, HUGE! The ravioli is delicious, my son and mother loved it. The service is adequate with plenty of seating. It's a neighborhood spot on Taylor Street, with a slightly cozy atmosphere depending on the time. Great spot for locals.

Despite having frequented Damenzo's for some time, I was taken aback by my most recent encounter there. They are really disrespectful and impolite for some reason. One day, I went in and one of the employees, the delivery driver, not realizing I knew Spanish, said some hurtful things about me and my younger cousin. Following that, an older employee left my pizza improperly cooked.

The chicken fettuccini Alfredo is some of the best you'll ever have. You definitely get your moneys worth, the portion is huge. Staff is friendly and fast! Love this place:)

Worst pizza, staff, customer and overall service ever in Illinois. We ordered a large stuffed pizza for pickup and the staff mishandled it, giving us a wrong one with sausage (we don't eat pork). My wife called to complain about it and the person talking to her, was unprofessional. Asked us to bring the wrong pizza back. He was not interested in fix the matter, compensate in any way, but to get the pizza back. We drove all the way back and my wife was there to get the refund and give the wrong product back. The woman who took the order was also present at the moment and she was talking to the coworker in Spanish and in a bad way "¿Qué?¿ No le gustó?" Not knowing that my wife is trilingual. This people not know how to run business responsible and destroy the good reputation of the italians and their cuisine . This place should be avoided at all cost

My coworkers and I were celebrating a coworkers birthday. We ordered from Damenzos . After we received our food we realized that we had incomplete food and I didn't receive my sandwich at all. I talked to the manager and he accused me of trying to steal a $10 sandwich when we purchased $150 worth of food. The Italian beef sandwiches were dry like they were left out overnight. He didn't replace my sandwich which he claimed I didn't order. The bottom line is I was a customer of theirs for years and I didn't think that I would be treated this way. It doesn't matter how long you patronize a place like Demenzos, they have no respect for the p who keep them in business. He lost a few customers today.

To be honest, as of recently Damezos's has fallen waaaayyyy off. I don't know what is happening but the quality of the food is going downhill drastically. I've tried so hard to give them chance; however, the last three times I've gotten a beef have been terrible!!! Cheese not melted, bread not fresh, and meat alllll fat!

The jumbo Italian beef is delicious. The right amount of juice, peppers, and cheese. It's huge so 3 of us shared this sandwich with fries and we were satisfied. The fries were also great. I definitely recommend them.

Placed an order with a pickup 30 minutes prior to closing. Get there on time and they decided to close early. No heads up or anything. Left hungry and disappointed.

Ok I don't like to say bad things but I got a slice of pizza that was 7 dollars so I was taken aback until I saw the size of it so it's enough to share but the pizza tastes horrible like cardboard to me no seasoning just meat and cheese no flavor at all I was disappointed to say the least especially after reading good reviews I'm not sure if those people that reviewed this place are true chicagoans but I am and was really not pleased at all I actually threw it away ‍ they have to do better

I have frequented this place about five times. I have tried their jumbo pizza slices and once I ordered their largest pizza. I like their pizza, but it seems different from what I'm use, both in good and bad ways. The bad! The crust is flavorless and annoyingly noticeable. The good! The sausage balls are hugh and flavorable. The sauce is very good and also noticeable. For some reason I often find myself craving their pizza, although I can't explain why. One day soon I will try something else, perhaps the Italian beef. It looks so yummy. The staff is courteous and efficient. Thanks Damenzo's!

Hadn't been here in a few years and had never tried their Italian beef. A friend was telling me how good it was so we made the trip to my old neighborhood for a bite to eat. We ordered over the phone ahead of time. And unfortunately had a few miscommunication errors with whomever took our order. We didn't end up getting exactly what we thought we ordered, but it was fine. The food was still delicious. I got my beef with a lot of extra juice and mozzarella cheese (don't judge me). Yum :)

The food is great. The Delivery driver had a very Nasty and disgusting attitude. I won't be ordering again for Delivery.

Giving 2 star because their menu says they have gorditas and hurache but when calling the person said no just taco & burritos but when arriving states they have them but just not today whatever that means tbh Pizza was good the sauce was a bit salty the plus is the cheese in the crust. The rib tips tasted freezer burnt was weird tasting came with fries which was good flavor but so greasy the garlic bread was just simple like a butter garlic spray on bread, hot wings was a lil over cooked but the buffalo sauce was decent came with fries also. Id go back to try something else but no go on the rib tips forsure

I've been going here since my days living across the street while a student at UIC. Their pizza slices are HUGE...and that's an understatement when I say that. For just over $3 a slice, you can feed about 3 people with that same slice! Not the best pizza I've ever had but worth the money especially if you are in the area.

Worse place ever avoid at all cost. I was a loyal customer I have been going for decades but now never again. I ordered my food for pick up they said 25-30 min wait am like OK. I got there in 35min these people gave my order to some one else then told me that they did and said there making my order fresh why would they tell me that. So it's 1st come 1st serve I don't know why they have phone orders then and wanted payment after they told me food wasn't there and had to wait 25min more. And it was the older fat Mexican guy he's been there for years he's like the boss when Italian ower ain't there. Shame on you I was looking forward to my food.

Yesterday I had purchased two cheese slices and the cheese had an odd taste. The crust was hard. It was a waste of $12.

This place is pretty great, it's pretty clear why people like to hate on this place. I find it funny that people come in here expecting red carpet treatment... Leave the bullshit at home and see this place for what it is. Honestly, if you're looking to be blown away by craftsmanship or something new - Damenzo's isn't for you! It's a neighborhood restaurant that focuses on fast food, nothing more! Sure the food can be a hit or miss... just like any other fast food joint. You either Love them or you hate them and at the end of the day none of it matters because they aren't going anywhere! They are obviously doing something right and the test of time has proven that. They are always busy and there is a reason for that! If you are not a fan, there are a billion other places on Taylor St. to choose from and guess what -- Damenzo's couldn't care less! I have never been disappointed, I know what to expect when dining in / ordering out from places like Damenzo's. The pizza is good along with everything else they offer. The food is good if you take it for what it is, I haven't had anything off their Non-Italian menu so I won't get into that. Would I recommend the place - I would! Living in the neighborhood, Damenzo's is definitely on my Go-To list that never fails.

I was raised on Taylor street and I grew up eating Damenzo's it was the best pizza in Chicago hands down. I moved from the neighborhood 5 years ago . When I moved to Wisconsin I was driving to Damenzo's on Taylor st to eat pizza and enjoy the ride back to the city. On 10-31-21 I went to get some slices with the family but for my surprise the taste and the thickness of the pizza is gone. Th pizza is really thin with no flavor and on top of that the price on the slice went up from $ 2 - to $ 4 then to $6 dollars I do not mind the price but the quality is not there anymore. I will paY 10 dollars for a slice if it was the same quality from before

Sure the pizza here is fine, BUT here they are serving up quite possibly the LARGEST calzone that I have ever laid my eyes on. Seriously, this beast probably weighs in at 7-8 pounds and is full of delicious, gooey cheese. I recommend adding in sausage and mushrooms, which will put you back $10.99. But $10 bucks for dish that literally lasted me 4 meals, that's a steal!

I normally love going to this place and enjoyed the food every time. It has been my cheat spot for years!! However, I was eating my tacos and found a staple in one of them. I called the restaurant and was hoping that they would have resolved the matter but was accused of lying. I hope the pics show you guys the truth and thanks for losing a customer of ten years!!!!

One of the few pizza places that actually delivers to the west side. Their thin crust pizza is really good. Not too cheesy, sauce is good quality, and seasoning is on point. Ask for it well done. Also, get a calzone if you want to have food for the next few days. Fast delivery too.

I lived off of damenzos for quite some time last February, and surprisingly my GI tract had never been better. For catering to every demographic, damenzos is killing it. Pizza bigger than my head, tortas, tacos, chicken wings, sandwiches, desserts. This places leaves little to be desired. My favorites include the pizza and Mexican food; their tacos are super delish. You can spend 5-10 dollars here and be uncomfortably full for hours. It's a great bang for he buck. Did I mention that they're open late?! In review, I like this place a lot. If I could continue eating here everyday without consequence to my body, I would in a second. However, it's become more of a sometimes snack due to obesity. Go check it out!

Pizza was dry and nasty. The slice had too many sausage, very little cheese, very little sauce and had no signature taste. I wasted my $6.00. Do yourself a favor go to Jewel and get a frozen pizza for the same price and get what you want. Also, you guys need to get more customer saavy, Good Evening goes a long way.

I have been coming here for several years now, thanks to the close proximity to my job.. This place has become our go to spot when the hospital cafeteria has bored our tastebuds. When the conversation of giant pizza slices comes up.. this is the first place that comes to my mind... What is funny, is that when we mention mexican food in my office, this is probably the first place we think of as well, lol.. How can this be you ask?? well let me tell you that Damenzo's was initially an Italian staple here on Taylor street, offering giant pizza slices, yummy pastas, sandwiches and salads. A few years ago, the owner opened up a taco joint around the corner "Papi's Tacos" on Western Ave... If I am not mistaken, I think he earned best burrito in chicago honors from one of the local newspapers at one point (don't quote me on that).. Anywho.. a couple of years later, the two restaurants are now merged at the recently remodeled Damenzo's location on Taylor St. Now when I dine here, I wrestle over what I want to eat.. Do I want a giant slice of sausage pizza or a burrito?? A steak torta or a giant calzone?? Good thing is that everything here is pretty damn good, so regardless of my choice, my stomach will thank me! The owner and staff are very friendly and eager to get your order taken and served. The restaurant is clean, and has plenty of seating in the two dining areas and the outdoor patio. Must have: I say try the one fo the giant pizza slices or the giant calzone.. Both are very tasty and very big, so keep that in mind. You can easily share a calzone between two people and a pizza slice is almost too big for one person. Prices are very reasonable, $5 for a slice and a pop, About $6 for the calzone.. Fugettaboutit!

Pros: open late, large cheap portions cons: everything else Wings are dried up and chewy Meatball sandwich could feed a family as it's a pan with 3 giant, albeit flavorless meatballs on a layer of cheese and bread. Pizza is dry and flavorless If you're drunk as a skunk you'll enjoy. If your taste buds haven't been eroded by smoking black and milds, give it a pass.

This banquet hall is just hands down amazing!! I just attended a wedding there this past Saturday. Although I never even knew this place existed because it is well hidden between other buildings, the inside is just gorgeous! It brings a chicago urban vibe along with gorgeous architecture plus intimacy. The bar was big, although they probably should have had two bartenders. The fettuccine alfredo and chicken parm were soooo good too. Loved the layout and brick walls. Friendly staff, great for a wedding or party, awesome mezzanine level for a dj so they aren't in the way.
