Best Restaurants in Seabrook and Kemah, Texas | Eater Houston

"This humble stand offers an understated pairing of coffee and pie. Damn Fine Coffee roasts its beans on site in its next-door roasting room and features a menu filled with various espresso and coffee drinks and teas. The handheld fried pies nearly steal the show, with savory options like sausage and gravy or the vegan soyrizo and potato that are a go-to for breakfast, while others are stuffed with comforting fillings like chicken and dumplings, macaroni and cheese, and crawfish etouffee. The sweet pies filled with chocolate pudding, strawberry rhubarb, and caramelized apples are especially hard to resist. On cool days, enjoy your coffee and pie out on Damn Fine’s expansive patio, or take it all to go, with a bag of roasted coffee beans for later and an extra pie for the road." - Brittany Britto Garley

Phenomenal pies, great coffee, and excellent service. I forgot to add photos until the pies were already gone, because we inhaled them so quickly. What I ordered: peach cobbler fried pie, bananas foster fried pie, strawberry rhubarb fried pie, and an iced peanut butter latte. The strawberry rhubarb pie was our absolute favorite. 1500/10. The cashier mentioned that it was a new item that was not yet listed on the menu and I’m very glad she recommended it because it was perfect. I used to be a pastry chef. I’ve eaten a lot of sweets in my time. The crust is great, flaky and buttery. Deep frying it obviously makes it more awesome and gives it that Texas state fair touch. The strawberry rhubarb filling was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. I really loved the contrast. Peach cobbler pie tasted like someone’s grandma made cobbler and then a heathen said “You know what would make this phenomenal dish more amazing? Deep frying it.” The heathen was correct: it’s awesome. It tastes like love and home and summertime. 10/10. Bananas foster pie was kind of reminiscent of banana pudding to my husband and I. He commented that it might be improved by switching the powdered sugar topping out with a glaze. 9/10. Peanut butter latte was pretty good. I don’t usually love the liquid coffee syrups, so I probably will opt for a more plain flavor like sugar free vanilla next time, but that’s entirely user error. I could still taste that the coffee was great underneath the syrup flavor, so I’m happy to get a different drink next time to better suit my preferences. I’m very much hoping that other people in our area discover this hidden gem and help to support this awesome small business in a time when many are struggling. Hopefully the photo of the empty takeout container gives everyone an indication of how we felt about the food quality.

I visited this restaurant last week and was extremely disappointed in my experience. I sent 2 emails to the addresses provided and have yet to receive a response. I gave the owner a chance to respond before my review. I was there around 12:30 and only saw a couple inside who were on their way out and a lady waiting outside. I waited 20 minutes before I was asked to place an order. I ordered 6 fried pies, a snickerdoodle latte on ice, and king cake Gelato. I was able to take the Gelato outside and waited. After waiting a while my coffee was brought out but was told by pies exploded in the fryer and had to be redone. I then waited even longer before my pies were delivered. I had already been there an hour so I chose not to look at the pies and much to my dismay they were extremely overcooked and some burnt! My mother and I attempted to eat the least overcooked peach cobbler pie. spent over $50 and was very disappointed. I live in Cypress and had gone to buy shrimp and visit my mother. I will not be visiting this establishment again.

Had a Chai Latte and Peach Cobbler Pie and they were delicious. I would have loved to see the staff more happy and friendly. Very quiet.

Google
Everything about this place was great. Service was great and the workers who I believe are the owners were extremely nice. I ordered a lemonade, Bacon egg and cheese pie, Carmel apple pie, and a peach cobbler. Lemonade was great. The breakfast pie on it's own was amazing, added with their sauce it was just 🤌. I would give both pies a 10/10. They also add some powdered sugar on top which adds to how great they are. It's outside eating and a nice cute little area with squirrels as entertainment lol. They also have some cookies that are amazing as well. All around great food and would definitely come again 10/10

Google
What a cool spot! The ice cream flavors looked like fun. We got an iced white chocolate raspberry latte and the electric voodoo cold brew which were both perfect. Bonus points for the disc golf basket in the yard!

Very nice employees. Beautiful outside patio to enjoy the DELICIOUS pies and coffee!! LOVE IT!!

Google
Great lavender latte and my friend had a cold brew she loved. Peach cobbler fried pie was great! Outdoor seating only.

Google
What a great surprise this place is. I'm always looking for a great coffee spot and this place delivered. From the gelato to the conversation with the owner to the coffee, I had a great experience here. I will definitely be back. I didn't get to try the fried pies, but I am really looking forward to it. The outdoor seating area was epic, such a great place to relax and enjoy the coffee.

Yelp
No indoor seating. Outdoor seating on short grass under beautiful oak trees. Had a spinach and artichoke fried pie (a fried thin-crust empanada). Noise from the interstate freeway, drive-on lawnmower, and an idling SUV engine. Couple of flies liked our food. Think this would be a great concept without the noise

Yelp
I just recently tried their food truck, and had a lovely experience. The staff is more than helpful and friendly. They answered all my questions, and I barely had to wait at all for my order The food truck itself has a clean and sleek exterior. The signage and menu are visible from the outside. They have plenty of tasty offerings. I would have liked to have seen the ingredients listed out for their signature coffees. I'm told the brick and mortar offers even more delicacies like king cake stuffed beignets Some tips: I didn't get a chance to order it, but the king cake latte sounded delicious. I will say the queso tots said they had hatch chilis in them, but the queso was bland and tasted almost like velveeta Cheers!

Yelp
This place was a fantastic hidden gem. Serving up all manner of coffee drinks (flavored and unflavored) alongside sweet and savory hand pies, this is a great place for breakfast, light lunch or snack. The pies are 5" in length, so order as many as you want depending on hunger level. The pie pastry is flaky and buttery, and fillings are made with love. No seating inside but tables outside if weather is nice.

Yelp
Awesome coffees and pies! Love the variety of desert and meal pies. Got to go back for some of the other meals too. Loved the outdoor tables and benches. Fun little renovated house that is a specialty shop!

Yelp
When I first arrived in Houston, I was looking around for some good looking coffee shops to go to and this place caught my eye! Here's what we ordered: **Electric Voodoo Cold Brew with Oat Milk: HANDS DOWN, best cold brew I've ever had in my life. Oat milk was a perfect addition and I was offered more oat milk if needed but it was perfect as is. (5/5) **Boudin Pie: HANDS DOWN, best savory pie I've ever consumed in my life. First time having boudin and it was amazing. The dipping sauce included was absolutely delicious! (5/5) **Peach Cobbler Pie: HANDS DOWN, best sweet pie I've ever consumed in my life. The peach cobbler was amazing and the pastry was amazing. It was piping hot and the powdered sugar sprinkled on top was the perfect addition. (5/5) A+ service! A+ ambiance! A+ coffee! A+ pies! Out of all the places I've eaten and had coffee at during my 32 years of existence, this place is easily in my top 3 of favorite places of ALL-TIME. Absolutely amazing and I 100% recommend this spot whether you're looking for something to munch on or something to drink. There's a small bench inside and plenty of seating outside. This is a hole-in-the-wall you don't want to miss out on!

Yelp
The coffee, food, & customer service was amazing! I tried 2 of their specialty coffees. They roast their own coffee beans on property. I forget what iced coffees I got but they were amazing. Cool antiques to look at as well

Yelp
So they bring their food truck up on El Dorado at the Union tavern sometimes. They have an amazing chili dog poutine tater tots made by a Canadian a bunch of fried pies coffees Italian sodas. Super great staff super good people. The variety of fried pies is awesome. I've only had the sweet ones but every one of them is good
google avatar

Yelp
Saw this place as I looked up directions to another local spot and knew I had to make a stop before returning to Houston. I purchased the boudin, green chile and jalapeño boudin meat pies along with the nutella cheesecake and chocolate pie for dessert. Of all the meat pies, I enjoyed the green chile the best. I think in this form it just had the best opportunity for the flavors and slight spice to come through. The other two boudin pies were ok, but didn't have a strong flavor profile that made me want to keep eating the pie. The dessert pies were good. We actually had to reheat them because we ate them hours later and the crust still held up. My favorite part about this place was the staff. From their attire to the cashier greeting everyone -especially the regulars, it felt like a place you'd want to frequent. Which seems likely given they have w nice patio with a stage. They have a brunch menu which others were ordering from but I declined because I'd just finished brunch but if in the area, I'd return to check it out.

Yelp
Fun little place in Seabrook that serves up some tasty coffee and gelato. My wife made me drive here almost every day during our 5-day trip while staying in Seabrook. Lots of unique and creative drink choices, I really liked the CocoMo (chocolate and coconut) and Fluffer Nutter (peanut butter and marshmallow) iced espresso drinks, more like dessert than a breakfast pick me up but hey, no judgements here. We also stopped by one afternoon to have some ice cream and take a break from our busy afternoon of fun. The gelato was very good. Once again, fun variety of flavors to pick from. Just eat your ice cream fast because it doesn't last long in the Texas heat! Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Lots of seating outdoors and it looks like their is entertainment offered at certain times during the week. We were mostly there to just quickly grab a coffee but getting off and on the road was a breeze. Find this place and give it a shot!

Yelp
Friendly service when I walked in. After my 15min drive home, it was still warm to eat. Bacon Egg & Cheese Pie was AMAZING with the sauce on the side. Peach cobbler is also yummy, not too sweet. I also got an iced latte and wooh that caffeine hit me hard, but it was also good. Definitely will come back to try more fried pies. Only downside is the parking lot but I came early on a weekday so it was empty.

Yelp
This place had delicious food and the outdoor seating is sweet to chill outside on a nice day with a cup of coffee. Everyone was nice except the one young girl who had just a sour attitude from the time we walked in. Can't tell me she's not racist because I was with a Hispanic and Asian group and she just gave side eyes and didn't even acknowledge our times we said thanks. Yet when 2 other groups came in and were non- Hispanic or Asian , she had that smile and asked how can she help them. The other staff members were so nice , so yes I would still come back and not let the one person ruin it.

Yelp
What an awesome eclectic atmosphere ~ great coffee, will come back for the food soon ! Hidden gem!!!

Yelp
Very customer service orientated. 3 people/orders in front of me and 3 after. They were able to answer all the questions by everyone that was thrown at them. Ordered a Pepper Jack Breakfast pie, made fresh so it takes a few minutes. Ordered this of her recommendation it was very good, Tasty, fresh. They have a very interesting menu, defiantly will be back again to try others. Check their hours before you drive up to this hidden gem. Seating only is outside to lunch date in the rain not idea, but on a nice day you have sun, shade, breeze.

Yelp
First timers. Sadly don't think we'll be going back. The place needs a good cleaning inside and out. Went first thing in the morning and leaves covered the entrance, like could they not be blown away? Went inside to the very small interior and the floor was just filthy! From dried spilled coffee at the entrance to some kind of crumbs/litter ALL over the floor- first thing in the morning and it looks like this? I've cream cooler Was full of handprints and not clean either. Went outside to more trash and silverware under our table, litter, and fallen dead branches everywhere. The place wreaked of lazy employees and perhaps an owner that just doesn't care. Ordered a coffee, which was as good as 7$ coffees are, but no food at this point- we were not getting good vibes at all on the cleanliness of the place. Very disappointed. I had wanted to go here for a long time.

Yelp
Literally one of the best coffee shops I've ever been to.So much variety on the menu both with coffee and food, you could start and end your day here! The staff you can see as you walk in inside the lab making magic happen,I love that. Tucked off in a quaint little neighborhood with cute houses everywhere. If I'm ever in Seabrook this is my place!
google avatar

Claudia L.

Yelp
Service: quick and friendly (I've only been for to go orders) Mac n cheese hand pie: 8/10, I loved it. It's not very cheesy or heavy. If you're a Mac lover, you'd enjoy it. The sauce is a must have to dip in Chicken chili verde hand pie: 10/10. No notes but it did disappear quickly Boudin hand pie: 6/10, it was ok. Tasted like boudin kolache but fried. Nothing I'd write home about. Horchata latte: 9/10, it wasn't overly sweet. Disclaimer: I was told that having the pies "smothered" takes it to another level but since I ordered for take out, I didn't want to risk them getting soggy.

Anahi S.

Yelp
It's a small little place hidden in Seabrook, very friendly and attentive people working there. Loved the vibe and the smell of fresh food and coffee as you walk in. I enjoyed the variety of coffees and lattes they had. You can even smother your pie with toppings like crawfish etouffe or sausage and gravy. They even have brunch on Sundays which I hope to get to try very soon. Thank you for the hospitality guys!
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Tiny hut with outdoor seating. Menu changes daily due to availability. I had affogato, ice cream, and tried both sweet and savory pies. There was nothing I didn't like. The staff was hard-working, but the lady running the place was so hospitable. She makes you feel like family, which is too rare. We will visit again despite the drive time.
google avatar

Krystal W.

Yelp
Staff is friendly in this little cozy neighborhood gem. Everyone is eager to help you understand how to bring your favorite damn fine coffee experience home with you, however you plan on preparing it. They've helped me choose the best of their whole bean and freshly ground coffees to prepare as cold brew, drip, pour over, and using my moka pot. Personally, their in-house roasted beans are my favorite. The depth of flavor is rivaled by NONE. Once you've had the cold brew, no other coffee house will do! Stop in and grab a coffee and support Seabrook's locally-owned small business. Cross your fingers and hope you show up on a day when they're roasting beans, the smell is heavenly!!

Joann n Rubin S.

Yelp
The crab Rangoon Boudin Balls we got today at the farmers market were delicious!! As well as our caramel Mac coffee ; hoping to try the brick and mortar next

Yelp
The food and drink and service at Damn Fine are DAMN FINE. My family is staying at a house nearby for the weekend and we have been walking over to this shop multiple times per day because the food and coffee and people are *so good*. My family wants to take the whole Damn Fine operation back to our respective homes in KC and Seattle! Highlights - the beignets and fried pies and Mexican mocha and chicken & dumplings. We also loved getting to chat with Mel, the owner, about his background and his fascinating approach to roasting coffee.
google avatar

Marilyn L.

Yelp
Gelato is sooooo creamy and delicious and Sorbet. Cookies and fried pies. Also they have great coffee. So good. I will definitely stop on the way home for the gelato. They were bringing out their Fresh watermelon gelato. Try their Tennesee drink with Whiskey... OMG so delicious ! Outdoor seating. Find this place it is definitely worth the drive.
google avatar

Alma S.

Yelp
Fried pies were excellent! Coffee was very good. Owner v was a bit rude but the workers were trying hard.
google avatar

Alexandra A.

Yelp
Bomb coffee love the beignets! The food here is always on point I wish that the customer service matched the food every visit. Unfortunately it doesn't. I'll leave it at 4 stars because 3 out of the 6 visits weren't good. I SO desperately want to leave 5 because the FOOD!!!! Owners wife though is honestly one of the rudest business owners I've ever come across and I've had the displeasure of her taking my order 3 times. This morning I told myself if she was running front I was leaving. Luckily all those cool people y'all had this morning were awesome and in an amazing cheerful mood so we ordered and stayed.....Only to watch the owners wife walk in, throw milk on the counter and storm off. Instantly the whole mood changed with her exit. I'm leaving this review for THEM. Management can ruin a business with a crappy attitude and those hard working employees y'all had there this morning.... I honestly felt bad for them to have to even deal with her to make a paycheck. No one bad mouthed her, they all went silent but you can tell She's a legit vibe killer.
google avatar

Danny S.

Yelp
There's no seating inside, so I wouldn't recommend if it's a particularly hot morning since there isn't a ton of shade. Coffee I would give 4 stars, since it was solid. The brunch was GREAT though. Couldn't recommend the Benny Benny enough though! I'm a huge fan of an egg benedict and this might be my new favorite. The beignet was unique and the boudin patty was nice and savory.
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Came here with my puppy and step daughter. The baristas were so nice and helpful when it came to helping me order. I had the dirty chai. They do charge for the espresso shot. I also had the Nutella pie and the boudin hand pie. The coffee was so good!! We sampled the gelato also so delicious. The pies were alright the boudin was dry. Other than that it's a dive! Can't wait to go back
google avatar

Lisa V.

Yelp
Cutest place ever! Owner is a chef and former rocker. Outdoor seating only or take out. Four of us went for brunch and tried the savory meat pies, the egg bennies, sweet pies, bloody Mary's, mimosas and of course the home roasted coffee. Their pecan roast is so good you don't wanna add cream or sweetener. GF and veggie options, too. Check it out if you're a coffee aficionado or lover of fried pies. The bennies are eggs Benedict over tater tots. Oh! These are good!
google avatar

Joel C.

Yelp
The coffee and pies are DAMN FINE! This quaint little shop has a pretty sweet patio outside, it's a shame it was raining so my group and I couldn't enjoy it. The interior of the shop is small, but the decorations are pretty interesting. I ended up trying the iced horchata latte, and it was delicious. You could equally taste the coffee and the horchata, which is great, since so many other places get the ratio wrong. I also tried the Monte Cristo and bananas foster pudding pies, they were both delicious! They have breakfast items, and libations as well, and they sound delicious. Very nice little shop, and I would love to return one day.

Amanda W.

Yelp
Such a fun quaint little spot! Found it randomly with google maps and so glad we did! Kids enjoyed the gelato, husband loved the peach cobbler pie and my affogato was deeeelicious!

Alyssa W.

Yelp
Coffee is amazing!! Better than any other franchise or coffee spots around! Tried hot Mexican Mocha and the kick-butt cold brew. Also had queso smothered tots, chicken chilaquiles verde, and beignet chicken sandwich. All very good. Will try the Barbacoa chilaquiles next time. We went for lunch during a weekday so there wasn't any live music, but will go back when there is a band playing. Try this place! You won't be disappointed!!
google avatar

Ava S.

Yelp
It's so good! The stuffed beignets are divine! The peaches are in season and the bananas foster was delicious! Everyone raved about their coffee. The Mexican latte was our fav.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop in the Seabrook areas I like the unique food offerings of fried meat pies and loaded tots. For coffee, I just had a standard mocha - it was pretty good but just your standard coffee shop mocha, nothing out of the ordinary. I ended up getting the chicken and dumplings meat pie which was good! Taste wise, it was delicious with the hot, moist chicken and dumplings filling inside a light pie pastry. Size-wise, it was a little small considering how long it took to come out (10-15 minutes). Atmosphere is great with ample outdoor seating spaced out across their large patio. It's really nice for a peaceful morning pick-me-up on a not-hot early morning in Texas. I'd definitely like to come back to try their loaded tots whenever I'm in the area!
google avatar

Shashikala P.

Yelp
If you like basket of tater tots for breakfast, this is the place! It looked like a house converted into a coffee shop, it's tucked inside residential neighborhood but has a catchy vibe and color, so you can find it easily. Customer service is good, we ordered 3 orders of tater tots and coffee. My husband got plain tater tots, it was perfect, piping hot, crispy on the outside, light and fluffy inside, it's a solid 5stars. I got tater tots smothered in hatch gree chilli queso, I dint like the queso, I could hardly taste and green chilli, it was too thick and gummy. My kid ordered TT smothered with chicken n dumplings, I dint taste it but he dint like it, so can't say how it tasted. My husband loved the coffee, but for me it was just okay. I felt it's bit pricey. Definitely try there tater tots without any smothered sauce, it's freaking delicious!

TL P.

Yelp
The best thing about the place is the dining is in a shady, green spot outdoors. The fact that we had rare 75° weather and a breeze didn't hurt. We were REALLY excited to try the pies, but quite frankly the food was unremarkable in every way. The pies we tried were apple, monte cristo, and bananas foster pudding. I took a bite of two and refused to eat any more. My husband helped me out and ate most of the rest; he said the apple pie was "just okay". (Apple pie is his favorite anywhere we go, so that says a lot.) The other bright spot other than the outdoor space... My hubby did say the coffee was good. We won't be back. *shrug* Maybe you'll have better luck or maybe just stick with the coffee. I almost forgot to mention that the staff was pleasant.

Melena V.

Yelp
Food is amazing! You have to try the pies and tots. Mimosas pair amazing with them. Come and try this place out. Owners are beautiful people and I will 100 percent come back.
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on a Thursday afternoon. The outside vibe seemed nice and chill-until the mosquitoes started to attack. I probably got bit ten times within a few minutes as I waited on my order. The horchata latte was pretty exciting. Not too sweet and not too bitter. Wish it had more spice rather than sugar. The chicken abs dumplings pie wasn't my favorite, even though I wanted it to be. The smothered tater tot fries were pricey but warm and filling. All in all, I'd probably just come back for the coffee and not necessarily food. Perhaps in the spring/winter/fall
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
I purchased a 5 pound bag of Geaux Bold. The owner roasted the coffee while I waited. It's bold AND smooth without bitterness. The roasting technique minimizes acidity. Peach cobbler ice cream is a must. I suspect that it is seasonal as they make their own peach compote and sugared crust (crust is, also, made fresh for hand pies.) I suspect that the sugar glazes the crust bits and keeps it from getting soggy. It is an extremely small store front that has fun decor. The bathroom is clean. The negative is Texas heat without an outdoor cooling station. Shaded tables are fabulous in the spring and fall. The patio is spacious and nice. Dining is outdoors. It's laid back vibe is great for hanging out with friends when weather allows. In scorching temps, we order our scoops to go.

Roy L.

Yelp
AMAZING place. Loved the food and the conversation. If you're in the area and don't stop by, you are missing out!
google avatar

Amie M.

Yelp
This place NEVER lets me down! From coffee (with or without alcohol and multiple sugar free syrup options) to savory meals to delicious sweet treats (even a "dogleto" for your dog while you order a in house made gelato for yourself) they put love and so much passion into each dish served!! OH! & They even do BRUNCH!!
google avatar

Kayla K.

Yelp
The Vietnamese coffee was life changing! Great service and such a cute location! I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This is a great local spot serving up amazing coffee all week and delicious brunch on the weekends. The staff is friendly with top notch customer service. If you are anywhere near the Seabrook area this is a must try.
google avatar

Valerie G.

Yelp
Wonderfully food! It was such a cute little place that was really convenient to get to. The staff was really knowledgeable about the menu items. Can't wait to come back to check this place out again. We'll go here every time we're in town.

Yelp
Love this place ever since it opened. Great coffee, great atmosphere, and great food as well. Had a king cake latte today and it was so good!

Yelp
Love our sweet and delicious Coffee Shop. Locally owned and so great. I have enjoyed being 10 minutes away from this little Gem. It's so nice to enjoy delicious home brewed coffee and enjoy the outside and near the water. Ms. Diane and her husband are awesome and so accommodating. My Pup Bella, loves to come out too and have their pupachinnos. Thankful and blessed to have this coffee shop near me.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Customer service was great! The gelato was a 2 out of 10. Honestly, my homemade gelato is much, much better. The sweet potato fried pie was ok. The problem is the crust of the pies. The crust was just regular. They put powdered sugar on top to help it but it just wasn't that good. Also had a banana cream or foster fried pie. It was alright to. The pies aren't flakey or fried crispy. It's kinda like filling placed in a dry pie crust. Sorry but true
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Stopped in for my first time this morning... The Barista had 4-5 sugar free Monin flavor syrups to offer! :-) Great vibe... hippie friendly! Lots of morning regulars stopped in while I was there.... she knew everyone's name. I'll be back! Had a sugar free Almond 4x Shot Latte with Almond Milk... yummy!

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops!! The coffee and the food is always so good. The London fog gelato is a must have!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Food, service and ambiance is amazing. I ordered their birria chilaquiles from their brunch menu. DELICIOUS!

Mike S.

Yelp
Very cool eclectic place. Bought the roasted beans and used them at home. Excellent quality beans. Meats pies are fresh and tasty. Beignets where also very good. We ordered a Hot Chai and a cappuccino. Chai was very good. Cappuccino was just ok. Way too hot and not really a cappuccino. Being a coffee snob My expectations might be too high. The staff was fantastic and loved every thing else about it. We had samples of the gelato which I plan to go back and get. It's really more then just coffee. Out door seating was nice and shaded.
