Damo Tea House - Review - Arts District - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One of our favorite matcha spots in Koreatown is now expanding with a second location in the Arts District. This one has the look of an industrial loft with white brick walls, stone counters, wood panelings, and lots of potted greenery. The menu remains mostly the same, with matcha lattes, einspänners, tonics, financiers, and Korean tea snacks, but now there’s way more room to lounge and hang out. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Cathy Park

Google
Super delicious matcha! 🍵 Wasn’t expecting this place to be this insanely huge. There are lots of people with laptops so I’m assuming there’s WiFi. Also since this place is so large and with this amount of people it was pretty loud there (in case you’re looking for a quiet space) Cute photo corners at the entrance. Lots of baristas as the bar so orders are prepared fast.

Google
Da-mo offers delicious and refreshing high-quality drinks!!! I had the strawberry matcha latte extra stronggggggg and also tried the yuzu espresso tonic. Both were tasty! I’ll definitely be back to try their einspeners!! Cannot wait.

Google
I’ve always liked DAMO, but damn this space is so much nicer and bigger. Such a huge difference from the ktown location which is always packed and crowded. Very aesthetically pleasing. Matcha is great.

Google
Been a big fan of Damo in Ktown as their tea’s surely high quality ones. You could totally tell when the place has been constantly busy since the early hype opening days up until today. It’s always kinda annoying when you feel like having it yet need to stand in the long line just to grab a cup. Not to mention the Ktown outlet’s kinda petite so unless you’re coming on weekday, it would be so so hard to get a seat. Thankfully, they recently expand into Downtown with much bigger space. The venue gives that industrial vibe and in a way looks like a co-working space setup with large sharing tables. As you can imagine, having bigger space doesn’t mean it’s quieter at all. Still long line but good news they can accommodate more guests for seat-in. The venue’s nonetheless packed with people sitting on their laptops and you can see not moving for hours. The menu offered is pretty much similar to Ktown one, and TBH everything on their menu don’t fail. My dynamic duo from there will defo be their matcha and hojicha. Those like cream top, go for the Einspanner. Super bold tea flavor without bothering earthy taste at all. The nibbles are kinda pricey for the size. Recently I tried the Mugwort financier and it’s just okay IMHO, nothing that special to call out. Will stick with the drink!

Google
The place is huge! Tried one of their matches and it was tasty. Very good esthetic and vibe inside. Employees were friendly. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Google
Happy to be the first review💚 I’m so glad that damo opened a location in the Arts District! Their matcha is always always good. I’ll be back for sure.

Google
Great staff, enjoyed my hojicha Einspänner (9/10: nutty flavor with subtle amount of sweetness from the cream), cool benches in the back, nice tables, and stools weren’t too bad to sit on for long hours. Woulda been cool if there was music to fill the space. Overall, the space is nice, much larger than the other location, more seatings, and the Einspänner is great as usual.

Google
Black Einspanner: my favorite here. the cream isn't overly sweet and the Americano pairs well if you like stronger coffee taste Hojicha Einspanner: I should have asked for less sweetener since I preferred the hojicha to be more like the strength of the black Einspanner Seaweed Financier: I loved this subtle umami flavor and the buttery quality of the pastry Fig & Cream Cheese Financier: my favorite Financier and i loved that it had a mugwort base It's a much bigger space than their ktown spot so there is lots of seating available but the benches are without backing so it might not be comfortable for working though we definitely saw people with laptops. Free street parking is available and wasn't bad on a Friday morning around 9am, but I could see it being tough on a weekend.

Yelp
Ambiance - Drinks - Service - Has easily become one of my favorite coffee shops. Love the vibe and the drinks were made very well. I would be here everyday if it was closer to me.

Yelp
Not sure if I get the hype but the matcha was just okay. I remember trying the ktown location and it was way better but maybe they changed their recipe? The matcha was a bit watered down and not as concentrated as the ktown Damo location. Granted that the cups are bigger here so you're getting more but it doesn't really feel like it because it's watered down. In addition to that their logo on the cup is literally masking tape with their name on it. It wasn't bad matcha but just not as good as people hype it up to be. I think stagger and Rok have way better matchas with cream tops.

Yelp
Omg I loved their matcha so hard. I tried my friends but I also got their hojicha & it was very rich!! The cream top was def one of my faves! They're also dog friendly!! They gave my puppy a treat & she loved it so much! The shop gives warehouse vibes but that's kind of the aesthetic of the place tbh. Nice place to chat & catch up because it's lowkey hidden in the arts district

Yelp
This Damo in the Arts District is one of my favorite cafes to visit. It's just an okay study spot since it is usually pretty busy and loud, but the Hojicha and Matcha Einspanner are both really delicious. I love how earthy and nutty the Hojicha tastes, and the cream top adds the perfect amount of sweetness. Definitely check this place out if you're near the Arts District.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
Yummy and authentic tasting matcha, def not sweet but there is little sugar packets by pick up if that's what you like! :) also tried their Nutella pastry it was good but not worth $6 it was so tiny so maybe skip that.
google avatar

Cathy H.

Yelp
Damo was a great addition to the Arts District area! The original location in Koreatown is quite small, compared to the new space in AD. The interior is spacious with several smaller and larger tables with outlets, and there is free wi-fi available for customers. Service is quick. My go-to drink is their hojicha einspanner which hits every time! I haven't tried their pastries yet, but would definitely return to try other menu items.
google avatar

Yelp
Glad to see a newer and very spacious location in Arts District. Very clean bathrooms too. Parking was hard to find in the morning at opening so had to just hazard it Love both the matcha and Hojicha eispanners!
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a Monday around 9am. Found parking right in front! The store front was quite humble and little advertisement. Kinda like that! I kind of like that! The interior was very simple and spacious. It was quiet inside. I felt a bit odd in talking, but all good :) The two people behind the counter seemed quite nice. I got the matcha latte. I can taste that the matcha was quite fresh! I wish that they opened earlier or opened later, because of my work it's difficult to get here because of the hours. But, I would come back here again!!

Yelp
/)/) ( . .) ( づ my fav matcha place in la. Love their strawberry matcha. Their servings are also generous. Ambience and location is amazing. Spacious with lots of seating. Love the aesthetics as well. This location is def better than the one in ktown because it has more seatings and the vibe just hits more here.

Yelp
Heard so many great things about the Damo in ktown checked this newer location in the arts district since I was in the area My sister and I just came back from Korea and were missing the cafe culture there and let me tell you.....Damo made us feel like we were back in Seoul. Parking is street but there are a couple of lots near by. The space is HUGE, very industrial, but still is warm and inviting. The staff is kind and friendly We ordered a matcha einspanner, and my sister got the jeju black tea. there is a big table that is shared with people and on the wall various nature shots are playing via projector. We got our drinks pretty quickly and enjoyed them. The space is good for meeting friends to talk/catch up, good space for big groups, maybe do some work. My matcha was perfect, creamy, nutty but not overly sweet. My sister enjoyed her hot tea and the process of brewing it. I will be back and recommend this place to everyone. bonus: This place is dog friendly so many cute pupps came in!

Yelp
I have always wanted to check out Damo Tea House but always give up at the last minute since the parking situation at Oxford Plaza is pretty bad. I heard they recently opened up another location over in Arts District, and you bet I dragged my friend to finally try out their viral matcha latte! What I tried: Matcha Einspanner (4/5) - Now I get the hype. Their matcha leans on the stronger side with a touch of bitterness, but not in an overpowering way. I actually prefer this over the regular matcha latte (which my friend had), since the cream top adds a nice richness that balances everything out. Vibe : This new location is gorgeous. It's super spacious and feels like stepping into an Arts District furniture showroom with industrial loft vibes softened by greenery and fresh flowers. Honestly, they nailed the aesthetic, and it matches the neighborhood perfectly. Staff here are super friendly and very fashionable! They all got drips for days with their fits!
google avatar

Franceli I.

Yelp
Damo is such elite coffee. Their latte einspener is my absolute favorite, the signature cream top is rich, silky, and just the right amount of indulgent. It balances the espresso perfectly and feels like a little treat every time. Worthy mention is their matcha einspener, too! You really can't go wrong with either. The space itself is clean, minimalistic, and bright, with plenty of open space that makes it feel calm even when it's busy.

Yelp
Good matcha, trendy, study spot in a big lot space I love Damo in Ktown and wanted to try the new location. Parking was horrendous but we all know arts district esp near these streets are terrible with street parking. There were a couple people in front of us in line, no big menu to be found except in front of the cashier. When I got to the front, it took me a while to see what was seasonal and if I wanted to stick with the usual. The gen z stare was getting to me and I ordered the matcha latte oat milk with strawberry cream top. It feels disconnected, people don't really talk. Great study space if you don't want anyone bothering you. If you sit at the big communal table then you are sharing with a bunch of people, no outlets in the communal table though. If you had to choose a damo, I would choose the ktown one. Matcha is good either way. :)

Yelp
Hojicha einspanner is a must order here! So creamy and delicious. Love the ambiance. Parking is difficult.
google avatar

Yelp
Parking can be hectic but a gorgeous expansion for Damo. Very aesthetically please and spacious at this location! Staff were also very swift and quick when it came to churning out the lattes as well. Def recommend this spot but or has to be lucky with parking or grab and go

Yelp
I ordered a strawberry matcha w/ oat milk & it was delicious! Matcha was earthy, good quality, hoping for a bit more nutty notes, but yummy nonetheless (4.5/5) Service was pretty quick, received my drink in about 5 mins of ordering. My friends and I waited by a windowsill where you could still sit at since there was no seats on a Sat afternoon. They have a huge space where lots of people are studying and seats to hang out w friends. Packed with so many performative people & it was great HAHA! The cafe is super spacious, but minimalistic. Near the entrance there is a mirror and artistic space for pictures and when you walk down thats where the cafe is with seats & tables. We found street parking blocks away but it can be a bit of a hassle since it is downtown.

Yelp
Airy, clean, and so aesthetically pleasing. Lots of different types of seating. Great place to work. I found it can get busy on the weekends but the crowd didn't deter from the experience. Hojicha einspanner - not too bitter or too sweet. They're generous with the hojicha einspanner cream top. Loved how they added hojicha power too. I'm definitely an einspanner type of gal, but if you don't like cream tops, I'm sure you'd be satisfied with the hojicha latte alone. Loved seeing this unique item on the menu. Must try! Black einspanner - This is definitely tough competition with Maru's cream top. 100% recommend. Yuzu espresso tonic - so refreshing on a hot day! You'll taste the espresso but if you don't like espresso shots, no worries. It mixes well with the tonic and yuzu puree. It's sweet, sparkling, light, and a great alternative for a milk based drink.

Yelp
Really solid matcha and it's so cute inside! Great place to get some work done, lots of tables and seating area.
google avatar

Yelp
Damo oh how I love thee. You will undoubtedly live rent free in my mind for many many moons. Love the minimalist Japanese aesthetic. Love the community style seating. Love the vibe. Absolutely loved my matcha einspener. The service was typical LA - nothing extraordinary but also nothing horrible. My matcha einspener with almond milk hit +$8 which these days is a bit normal yet also mind blowing. Street parking is luck of the draw depending on time & day and your patience levels. Already planning my next detour to Damo.

Yelp
Damo's new Arts District location is so beautiful, spacious , minimalistic and vibey. The servers are all very welcoming and sweet. Plenty of indoor space and tables + seating, but it does get busy in the afternoons! Every drink is delightful with my favorite being their hojicha latte (best in LA imo!!) The matcha tonic is a refreshing option for the summer.

Yelp
I had no idea that Damo opened a new location besides their Koreatown cafe, but I was drawn there for a meet-and-greet signing* with Keshi before his L.A. performance of his Requiem tour. I found free parking about a block away near this recreation center/apartment complex (?) with no parking signs, assembled my work bag, and arrived into the clean, minimalist cafe to order. The drink of choice was a strawberry matcha einspanner with easy ice and almond milk--PERFECT choice for a day that eventually got really hot!--but they have a lot of amazing options. There is also a lobby with a large mirror with some couches and a tree table/stool, friendly service, some pastries, free Wi-Fi, a restroom in the back, and a long table for people to work as well as a waiting area with cushions. *Waiting outside for Keshi's signing didn't impact my actual review of the cafe, but it would have been nice for the workers there to offer cold water around the peak hours of heat because a lot of us waiting in the long, long line were super hot and didn't want to leave their spots in line. While the signing was pretty rushed, it was amazing meeting him and getting a signed card!

Yelp
Love the space! Plenty of seating and the feel of the shop is calming and airy. Visited during their soft opening and got lucky to be welcomed with no line. The cashier was friendly! Ordered a matcha latte and a latte einspanner. The matcha had strong flavors poking through. Overall, great space! Excited to try the hojicha latte next time.

Yelp
I don't come out to the heart of LA too often so I haven't heard about their OG location. I was searching for new coffee shops to try nearby and this Damo location popped up. I'm not a matcha connoisseurby any means but my gf is a huge fan so I like to try her drinks since I'm more of a coffee fan. Parking is terrible here as it's located in the Arts District. There's a parking option across the street that charges a couple bucks but there was nobody nearby and very few cars. We were going to risk it and park there for a short time but decided to just stay put nearby while I went in to order the drinks. Ordered their Matcha Einspanner and Black Einspanner. The matcha was a good choice obviously since they specialize in matcha drinks but the americano was very sour. They were quite busy at the time but I decided to stay for the ride. It took a minute or two to put in my order but I was acknowledged by the front of house staff even though they were slammed so it's okay, no problem. The guy taking my order didn't rush me and had a very friendly attitude so that's a plus. There was one person that was dedicated to the matcha station which was nice to see. Even though I waited a good 10 minutes, it was not too bad considering how many orders there were before me. The matcha was good but not spectacular. If I lived or worked within walking distance, I would probably return. If you're coming with a group, I'd recommend because there's so much seating available inside.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Glad they opened a new spot in the arts district! Spacious and aesthetically pleasing interior! Can't go wrong with any of their drinks. I believe their regular sweetness is perfect! My friends and I got drinks in regular sweetness and half sweetnesses. Personally, I'd go half sweet with the einspanners as the cream top makes up / adds sweetness to the drink. Their hojicha and matcha lattes are good halfsweet jf you want to enjoy the more natural taste of the product, but the regular sweetness is perfect as well! The drink tasted a lot more enjoyable / addicting to drink, but it was not overwhelmingly sweet as a dessert-like drink would be. Damo's got the best matcha in LA!
google avatar

Wendy Y.

Yelp
Went around a saturday morning and parking was a bit hard to find. There is only street parking or a paid parking lot. If I remember correctly, it was $5 for 15 minutes. There wasn't a line when i arrived but all the seats in the cafe were all filled up. I love the aesthetic of the cafe. They do have free wifi if you do on planning to study here, but the outlets might be limited if you are not sitting at a mini table. I think their matcha is aight. I personally think that the matcha from the other damo location taste better than this location.
google avatar

Yelp
Support your local small businesses! Love that this place opened up in Arts District. They're currently closed on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Very spacious interior with a super friendly staff. Street parking is limited but there's a parking lot across the street or additional structures within a block of walking distance. Our group tried the following: -Strawberry Einspanner: Very good - tastes like fresh strawberry milk with strawberry jam and a creamy top. No caffeine in this one. -Einspanner Latte: also good, not too sweet and still creamy. -Hojicha Einspanner: The best drink we tried. Hojicha base with Hojicha cream top. It's like nothing I've ever tried - highly recommend this one! Definitely will come back soon!
google avatar

Anh L.

Yelp
I liked it! Their matcha is a blend from different farmers they said. Their hojicha is good. I'd get that over the matcha here. Good space Big table to study I like that it's not in ktown so I don't have to drive far. They don't have much food yet but I'm sure they'll add more soon
google avatar

Audrey F.

Yelp
Cute cafe located in the Arts District -- cool decor (minimalist, wood, chrome, etc.) and a decent amount of seating to hang out with friends or to study at. There was a lofi DJ there as well. Service is friendly and drinks are made to order so you have to wait a little longer than other spots. Tried the hojicha einspanner and enjoyed the smooth, toasty flavor. What makes their einspanner special is that the cream on top is hojicha flavored instead of just cream or vanilla flavor.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
So excited that Damo opened a location a lot closer to home! I arrived first about 40 minutes after soft opening day, and there was a good amount of people already, so I waited in line a bit before ordering. Matcha Latte - got mine with whole milk & loved that I can taste the matcha, and that it wasn't too sweet! Hojicha Einspanner - personally for me, I'd mix up the drink that way I can get a better overall taste instead of sipping. Other than that, I really enjoyed the roasted flavor and pairing with the coffee. Also not too sweet either! I also got to try a small cake sample, and I believe it had mugwort in it, and it tasted so good!! It would definitely be a great pairing with coffee. The workers are also super friendly and welcoming. I didn't order any adjustments to my drinks so it's nice to know I don't have to worry much about sweetness. The entire space is also very large, and great to hangout and do some study or work. Parking may be a bit of a pain but I think it's worth it to try this spot.

Sara F.

Yelp
Damo has an open floor industrial vibe. There are a lot of banquet style tables to study on; with outlets near the end pillars. Circular tables are available near the top entrance. There are benches also available to just sit and chat. The hojicha einspener was very flavorful and definitely something I'd get again. I also found out it is water based and dairy free (minus the foam on the top), so no alternative milk options were necessary.
google avatar

Jackie L.

Yelp
How cute is this place! The large open space with its cute minimalist designs and furniture made the place so serene and inviting! Wish I could just bring a book next time and enjoy the space instead of rushing out like I did the past two times I've been there. I got the iced matcha latte (no sweetness and with almond milk) and boy, is it perfection! The matcha-forward flavor was a hit and the matcha-to-milk ratio was perfectly balanced. After trying so many different matcha spots, Damo is hands down my fave spot for a matcha latte!
google avatar

Susie D.

Yelp
Excellent excellent matcha until the last drop. Perfect matcha to milk proportions, strong, earthy flavor, can't ask for anything more. Loved the location, the design, would've liked some food options, but it's a tea house and there are plenty of other spots in the Arts District to go for that. They let us bring our bikes in. Great experience.
google avatar

Justin A.

Yelp
First time trying Damo and I can see the hype. Ordered the matcha einspanner with oat milk and it was delicious. I love the quality of their matcha and that cream top was perfect. It's also a great portion size. The inside was very spacious and minimalist. Great spot to meet with a friend or go solo and get some work done. Only downside is the parking in arts district can be tough. Aside from that, I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Katherine T.

Yelp
definitely top 3 places to get hojicha omg!! very cool space, lots of seating and fairly quiet for studying or work. hojicha einspanner (5/5) - genuinely so good, perfect amount of sweetness for me and i liked the thickness from the hojicha cream top. matcha tonic (4/5) - very good and refreshing, i usually don't like matcha tonics but i didn't mind theirs
google avatar

Tammy L.

Yelp
Super spacious place to work or study. Street parking. Tried the matcha einspanner and my friend got the hojicha einspanner. Both drinks are 10/10. definitely will come back.
google avatar

Misa T.

Yelp
There was plenty of street parking and the interior was so modern and clean! The matcha was 10/10! It wasn't too sweet and you could actually taste the matcha which I enjoy. This is an authentic matcha cafe and I appreciated the quality matcha tea. Service was good and the barista recommended a drink for me since it was my first time.
google avatar

Yelp
Genuinely so bad, I'm like blown away I come out to LA for good and genuine matcha and I get another minimalist coffee shop that has matcha that tastes like oat milk, and the coffee was straight syrup not even a hint of actual espresso, cute for like two pics but it was bad we left 4 drinks near the road in hopes another individual would enjoy it
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
The lines have been long every time I've gone, but it moves fast and the drinks are worth it! My personal favorites are the strawberry matcha, or the strawberry Einspanner. Don't forget to make sure your drink has the cream top! I always see people studying or getting work done in the middle table as well. Since the cafe is really calm, I'd recommended coming to do so if you're into that. I had to find parking on the street. Luckily we got a spot, however, it can be difficult to find some at times.
google avatar

Young L.

Yelp
Spacious yet minimalist. There's always a line but it goes by quickly. There's many seats to work from but they're typically full. Parking is a little difficult but honestly damo needed a second space because that ktown one was nearly unbearable. I can't wait for the official opening. I hope they expand their drink menu and bring that seasonal mango drink they had last year. Mmm
google avatar

Mari K.

Yelp
I really love the matcha here, it's super strong and tasty. The strawberry is not too sweet and the service is good. The prices are a bit steep, but in this day and age, nothing is really cheap anymore. The ambiance is good as well, lots of tables to sit at.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Only tried damo this past week and then saw they opened up another store in arts district so i had to come back!! Beautiful store, spacious interior, tons of place to sit. Matcha einspanner is delicious. One of my new favorite spots in La fs
google avatar

Diane T.

Yelp
Best coffee shop in town, though these past couple of weeks it's been tasting watered down and the Einspanner not as thick as it used to be. Used to go almost everyday but less often now. I would appreciate consistency.
google avatar

Gil L.

Yelp
i am addicted to hojicha lattes and this visit helped fuel this addiction. my sibling and I got the einspanner and the regular latte to see what the difference is, and they were both pretty good, main difference I got was the latte is obviously more milk/creamy bc there's milk base. Perfect for my sibling who is a dairy boy, self proclaimed ofc. I thought both were very good and would come back for it. The vibes of the place gives modern coworking space, so it is good for getting work done! But it is pretty busy so spots are a bit limited. Parking is arts district so you just gotta hope for a good street parking spot and be ok at parallel parking
google avatar

Jaden L.

Yelp
I love this location!! Everyone gave a great experience, came all the way from Vegas to try this place.
google avatar

Phuong T.

Yelp
DAMO art district just opened last week. Tried their matcha einspanner and their hochija latte and both were amazing! The hochija was the perfect roast with strong tea flavor and not being too watered down and the matcha also had good flavor without being too sweet. Was pretty busy but service was quick and there's plenty of seating.
google avatar

Wesley C.

Yelp
Da-mo offers delicious and refreshing high-quality drinks!!! I had the strawberry matcha latte extra stronggggggg and also tried the yuzu espresso tonic. Both were tasty! I'll definitely be back to try their einspeners!! Cannot wait.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
I'm so happy they have made a second location in Arts District. I loved DAMO from the OG Ktown location. They have one of my favorite cream tops and drinks. I would put their cream top on all of my drinks. This new location has plenty of more open spaces for people to come work, study, chat, have quiet time. There's long benches or community tables to sit, there's plenty of street parking if you get one, there are a good amount of parking lots around but will need to pay for them. My only downside to this is the parking situation, but not too bad.( if you know LA)
