I was already craving Italian as I was on my way to Via Locusta but their kitchen was closed from 3-4pm on a Sunday so I found my way to DaMo which has been on my radar for years. All homemade pastas and sauces, and I was watching their chef make the sauces in the back as I enjoyed my meal.
Upon walking in, I was greeted with friendly smiles and the menu is clearly posted up, as well as easy to use Kiosks to order from this fast casual spot. I opted to create my own pasta using gnocchi, cacio e pepe and added pecorino romano for $1.5, total with a side salad of $4 came to $20
The cacio e pepe sauce is creamy and rich already, I wouldn't recommend to add on additional cheese, it's not necessary. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy, I was pleasantly surprised and would 100% order it again! The pasta isn't cheap, ie the gnocchi w/ mushrooms at Gran Cafe is $16 so they're honestly comparable pricing - but I think Damo is a great option if you want good quality pasta but don't feel like sitting down for a long meal. I do wish you could add some protein or vegetable items, but I can see how that would affect their turnaround time and may not match their business model.
I wouldn't recommend the salad - for someone that makes their own dressing at home, the lemon vinagrette was mostly just olive oil, couldn't taste the lemon at all - and was a really oily overly dressed, flavorless salad.
Lastly, unfortunately they use plastic containers to serve- which I can understand as a fast casual spot - but the waste personally bothers me and does affect the frequency that I would visit the establishment.
Overall, I had a solid first experience at Damo and would certainly recommend it if you're craving Italian in the area!
