I come here for one reason to have some soup dumplings when I am in town. I am flight attendant and when layover across the street and I crave some soup dumplings these is the spot I frequent quite a bit. I can only speak on the soup dumplings because that’s all I get here and they are excellent.

A little bland and doughy for my taste but some people love it. If you like delicate flavors and textures, this place might not be for you. Shrimp and shishito peppers had sickeningly a thick sauce, but tasted fine. Dumplings seemed doughy. Scallion pancakes are enjoyable if you like deep fried stuff. Their veggies however are delicious. I also recommend you ask for a side of mustard if you like spicy. Service was nice and attentive and they only forgo lt one dish.

The service was fast and good. The waiter gave us some additional time to go over the menu and returned promptly when we were ready to order. The food came out fast and was hot. Fried rice was not greasy. Restaurant was clean and no wait time. Definitely will come back and try the noodles.

First time trying this place. Took a while to be seated even though there was plenty of open seats. Ordered the Dan Dan noodles and honestly that was the biggest disappointment. For $7 it was the smallest portion I’ve ever had. And it was served in a big bowl. I finished it in 3 bites and it was not good. The greens overpowered the peanut sauce. That’s hard to do. The other items were bland. Honestly Panda Express tasted better. I would definitely not come back. Service was pretty bad too.

I saw this restaurant on IG and live relatively close and wanted to try. Dan Modern Chinese did not disappoint me. Every dish and the dumplings were flavorful and delicious. I'm definitely going back to try other dishes on the menu 😋

We love Dan Modern. The spicy soup dumplings are so yummy bc and we ALWAYS get the short rib DanDan noodles. The vegetable dishes are healthy and fresh. We literally love everything we have ever tried.

I know about Dan from the one in Playa Vista, I think I like both but prefer this branch better. In terms of the restaurant setting, this one is very spacious, clean and well-lit (not too bright nor dark). 👌 Customer service was top-notch, very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. I much prefer that the waiters/waitresses know if there are onions on any given dish, and this branch didn't disappoint. Thank you for training your employees well. 🌟 In terms of pricing, I thought they did price their dishes fairly, so cheers to that! Anyhow, it's time to talk about the food! These are what we ordered on our last visit (I will state if I recommend the dish or not: - Dan Dan Noodles: flavorful, noodle textures are chewy and tasty, mushrooms and steak are juicy. (Recommended) - Popcorn Chicken: Good appetizer, crispy and flavorful. The sauce taste kind of like honey mustard mixed with mayo? Yummy! (Recommended) - Pea Sprouts w Garlic: This is my dish of the day. Pea Sprouts are hard to find (in grocery stores as well as restaurants), so I was hoping this would be great and it didn't disappoint! (Recommended) -Shrimp Fried Rice: What makes a good rice plate? Not the soggy ones. Thankfully these aren't, very flavorful and I enjoyed the shrimp! I enjoyed their fried rice so much that when there were 2 spoons worth of fried rice left I still asked for to-go box for it. 😏 (Recommended) - Pork and shrimp dumplings: Taste pretty good. My girlfriend loved it. I just personally find dumplings to be alright. However if you love fried dumplings, this is awesome! (Recommended for dumpling lovers) Overall, my dining experience here was great and if you happen to be shopping at the Manhattan village, you must try this restaurant and then you would be coming for more! 😁

Coming here just screamed "if a rich non-Asian person went to Din Tai Fung and said 'I could do this' this is the result". Food was overall mid. The sauces were good and they can cook vegetables, but the noodle quality was bad. Somehow just not the right texture. The tea was super watered down. My friend got the black sugar milk tea. It was just a very sweet milk. Where's the tea? And no black sugar syrup. I can only guess they think the boba makes it a black sugar milk tea, but that's not the case. Our server at least had a good personality but the service itself was slow, and one of our dishes was forgotten. I'd come here in a pinch if I was in the area and wanted something similar to Din Tai Fung, but if given a choice in still going to go to the real deal.

Yelp
We stopped by Dan Modern Chinese in since we were craving dumplings and veggies! We ordered one item from each section on the menu and it did not disappoint! We ordered the: Cucumber Salad Popcorn chicken XLB Pork and Dungenous Pork and Shrimp in Chili Oil Steamed Chicken Dumplings Beef Roll Mapo Tofu with Crab Shrimp with Crab Sauce String Beans Bok Choy Short Rib Dan Mein Shrimp Fried Rice My favorite items were the cucumber salad, shrimp and pork wontons, shrimp fried rice, and the green beans. All the ingredients are super fresh and all the dishes came out fairly quick. What I like about this place is that you can order your dumplings how you like them, whether they're steamed or pan fried, and they have a good variety of filling options. Their chili oil isn't that spicy though, and I definitely needed more of a kick. They have locations all over Los Angeles, and it's a great place to share a meal with some family and friends. Everything is served family style and there's something on the menu for everyone. I loved how open the Manhattan Beach location was, especially since you can go shopping around the Village before or after your meal. Stop by and let me know what you think.

Yelp
As a last moment decision to LAX, we decided to have a nice warm dinner here before going to the airport. The location is in a nice shopping area and the ambiance is very clean and modern. The serving staff were friendly. It's the first time trying this place and we didn't know what to expect. I had the spare rib dan mein: a stirred fried thick noodle dish with spare rib pieces. The sauce was on the sweet side, and it might have started to burn as it had the taste of a slightly burnt sugar sauce. My beautiful dinner companion had the oxtail beef noodle soup. She said it was a bit plain and the oxtail meat was already stripped from the bone. Her friend ordered the vegetable dumplings and the chicken noodle soup. I heard the dumplings were pretty flavorless and wasn't good. For her chicken noodle soup, she removed the chicken from it as she said she couldn't eat the chicken meat when it's cooked that way. The wait staff brought the wrong items to our table and seemed confused when we said we didn't order that item. Overall, I'm not a fan. The food was very disappointing and that would be the main reason for going here.

Yelp
CS is the Best in MB. Kimberly is our waitress and she does a marvelous job, very personable and attentive. Fried Rice, Dan Main Noodles, Green Beans are all excellent! Price is right!

Yelp
This is probably one of the closest thing you can get to Din Tai Fung without the crazy wait and the lines! Definitely come with reservations, though! I will say that the food was just OK to my taste! But I did like the option that you could minimize the salt in the dishes! The ambience is great. It seems that there's a lot of families that come here for dinner! This is also located in the Manhattan Village shopping plaza where there is plenty of parking!

Yelp
Our first time was an eye opener. It was fantastic, the food and. The service. The next visit did not drop in quality, it was just as good.

Yelp
Ordered a takeout, just one oxtail beef noodle soup with extra noodle..... waited for 50 mins lol. The oxtail beef noodle soup has no flavor at all. only Three pieces of meats and they all loose. This is probably the worst noodle soup I ever taste, and I have diarrhea after eating it. Not recommended at all
google avatar

Yelp
Worst. Food is greasy expensive and doesn't even taste like Chinese food. Ordered four entrees and they charged me and last minute after waiting for an hour they said the ran out of the food to make that dish and the Chef would NOT modify to make a similar dish. Horrendous. Don't charge me, make me wait and hour and then not resolve a simple issue. Then I get home and they forget another entree in the bag.

Yelp
The green beans at this location are as yummy as expected. This is my first time at this location. Their Playa Vista location is nice as wells The staff here is VERY good.... Friendly and helpful. Their fried rice is fluffy and flavorful. Their scallion pancakes, although a popular item with the clientele (was told by server)... I believe I will skip next time. Parking is easy. All in all.... I do recommend and I will be back

Yelp
This place has some of the best up scale Chinese I have ever had. The beef rolls, WOW, XLB, amazing, the cucumbers are spicy and fresh. We took our parents from out of town and they called us the week later to tell us they were craving it again. We also had the pork chop fried rice and short rib noodles, which are MUST GETS. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The ambiance is welcoming and modern, and very clean. The service was fast and attentive. Be warned the chairs are uncomfortable.
google avatar

Juan F.

Yelp
I have to say the service was great, the two main dishes we ordered were Panda Express compliant. The only one set back was the scallion pancake, don't get it. We actually sent it back. It was flavorless, kinda dry and doughy. No dipping sauce could save it. The restaurant is great for Manhattan Beach, but would not last in Monterey Park. Just Ok...

Yelp
Our guests wanted to have Chinese food. We gave this restaurant a try. The food was good, quite authentic. But, the portion was really small for the price they charge. Is it a fine-dining? Not really. It's expensive for what they serve. The service definitely has room for improvement.

Yelp
The service was great and the food fresh and tasty at don modern chinese! Excellent menu and well prepared food.

Yelp
Tried this place with the fam for the 1st time for lunch on a Labor Day weekend. It was not busy at all. Just know lunch price on their menu does not apply on a holiday or holiday weekends. You pay the dinner price for lunch on holiday weekends, which didn't make sense. Anyways, we wanted to try this place out regardless. The Food: We had ordered the (1) Xiao Long Bao regular pork/spicy pork soup dumplings, (2) Short Rib Dan Mein Noodles (3) Pork Chop Fried Rice (4) String Beans with Garlic (5) Pickled Cucumbers. Overall, portions were generous. (1) Xiao Long Bao regular pork/spicy pork soup dumplings - The baos were def. bigger than Din Tai Fung. It had your meats and soup filling. Taste-wise, it's ok. I wouldn't say it's the best I've tasted but still good. I wouldn't order the spicy pork one next time and stick to regular. (2) Short Rib Dan Mein Noodles - Ordered this based on popularity via Yelp review. My wife thought this dish was more on the salty side. Mainly because the amount of soy sauce base sauce was overpowering. I personally liked this dish. The short rib was tender. Noodles were cooked well. It was savory and sweet imo. The flavors reminded me of a Korean style marinade for short ribs (kalbi). Pairing this dish with the Pork Chop fried rice balanced out the saltiness. (3) Pork Chop Fried Rice - My kids really loved this dish so much that we had ordered another one. The pork chops were incredibly tender, not dry. The fried rice was flavorful and fluffy. Flavors of the pork chops and fried rice paired well together. (4) String Beans w/ Garlic - If you love green beans, try this. Very flavorful with the garlic. Portions were sizable. (5) Pickled Cucumbers - I thought this dish could have been a small side. They gave a lot. If you like spicy and anything pickled, try this one out. It does pack some heat. TBH, I didn't like it at first but it grew on me. This pairs well with fried rice. I brought some home and ate it with rice. So good. The Service: The maître d' seated us promptly. She gave us a heads-up that the AC wasn't working. I appreciated her letting us know beforehand. It was hot that day but it wasn't hot inside so no biggie. Our waiter was very attentive, polite and prompt. All the dishes came out promptly. The Ambiance: You def. get a modern feel with the overall decor. Very spacious enough for groups. It's fairly clean as they had recently opened. There's no loud music so it's a great place to chit-chat over a meal with family, friends or co-workers. Overall, some of dishes may be a hit or miss. I've certainly tasted better baos and noodles at Ding Tai Fung and Northern Cafe. I shouldn't compare as this place has its own modern twist to it. I would def. come back to try other dishes. You're welcome.

Michelle H.

Yelp
Food is good but definitely priced on the higher side. Portions have definitely gotten smaller now too. If you order takeout, expect to wait longer than what is listed when you order or when you receive a text message telling you the order is ready.

Yelp
From LAX we came here after we picked up one of our friend from Philippines We enjoyed the place because it was clean, and with Asian ambiance. I gave 5 stars for their staffs , (they are all friendly), and the Food was hot and delicious. We ordered beef roll ( Crispy and not dry), the oxtail noodles was so good, their salt and pepper tofu very satisfying and the chicken Xiaolongbao was the best.

Yelp
After a day perfecting (or butchering) our golf swings down the street at Topgolf, we headed to Dan Modern Chinese in Manhattan Beach, hungry and ready for some solid eats. Lucky for us, this place delivered. Our crew had a mix of dietary preferences, so we covered our bases with a good range of dishes. Here's the lineup: scallion pancake, mapo tofu, bok choy (my personal favorite--simple but so good), xiao long bao with pork and shrimp, steamed vegetable dumplings, and pan-fried veggie dumplings. For drinks, I grabbed an iced matcha latte, and we kept the Sapporos flowing. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and served with a nice balance of texture. The dumplings, especially, had that perfect bite to them. Service was efficient, friendly, and on point, making sure we were never waiting too long between plates. Ambiance-wise, don't expect cozy corners and candlelit tables. Dan Modern Chinese is one big, cafeteria-style room, which could use a few tweaks to soften the vibe. But for a casual hangout, it works! We came hungry and left happy--worth a visit, especially if you're in the area already.

Yelp
The good: I got crispy pork and shrimp dumplings, pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings), steamed spicy pork dumplings, noodles with shrimp and mushroom, scallion pancake, and beef roll. My daughter really enjoyed the scallion pancake. I liked that it wasn't as greasy as other scallion pancakes but I think as a result it also is a little less tasty. My mom really enjoyed the beef rolls. It has tender meat. I really liked the crunchy shell on the crispy dumplings. I also liked how you could opt for dumplings in 4 styles: crispy, steamed, pan fried or chili oil. The xlb had a nice thin wrapping and many pleats. I like the modern interior with golden metallic light fixtures, high ceilings, sleek chairs and bright light. The restaurant reminded me a lot of Din Tai Fung but with better prices! The food came out in a timely manner. There's a parking garage adjacent to the restaurant. The bad: There's no outdoor seating. The interior is very cold. Bring a jacket! The interesting: I came at 11:30 am on a Thursday and was the only group there. I was worried at first that perhaps I chose a bad restaurant but people started coming after we got seated and the restaurant was at least at 50% capacity.

Yelp
If you are looking for tasty dumplings then you need to go here. I am a picky eater and even pickier with my dumplings but these knock everything out of the park. My son and I loved going here so much we are looking forward to going back. The service was very attentive and so friendly. The restaurant it self is very pretty inside and I loved the lights hanging from above. Can't wait to go back

Yelp
Overall tasty but not standout Chinese food. Dishes were hit or miss for us. Service was excellent. Beautiful restaurant with casual ambiance. Dishes we tried: * pork and crab soup dumpling - 3.5/5 Tasty, couldn't really appreciate the crab, good amount of soup filling, perhaps getting the crab may not be worth the extra money * short rib noodles - 3/5 Great noodle texture, can tell these are hand made, but the sauce was too salty and overpowering. Short rib was tasty, overall portion was on the smaller side for the price * mapo tofu - 5/5 Delicious flavor, hearty portions, comes with a side of rice * beef rolls - 4/5 * salt and pepper tofu - 2/5 Not our favorite rendition of this dish: Crisp exterior but inside was dense, also has a sweet taste which isn't a listed ingredient on the menu

Yelp
Heard from a few South Bay'ers this was a decent substitute for Din Tai Fung (aka DTF). Is it? Short answer is no. I went to the Manhattan Beach location and I can see this being a place for locals who don't want to drive to Del Amo. So, we ordered the cucumbers, Dan mien noods, fried rice, pan fried wontons and some XLB. The cucumbers were a bit too acidic. I still ate them. The Dan mien noods were okay. The fried rice was just okay. I like Lunasias and DTF's more. The XLB were juicy but needs more flavor. The accompanying ginger was muted. The broccoli with garlic needed more garlic. The pan fried dumplings were great but the sauce was thick, sweet and gloopy. Would have preferred a spicy option. Soda - still giving a can? Come on. It's 2024 and you are a modern restaurant. Time to give refills. Service - friendly but short staffed. Water refills took a while. Bottom line, would I go back? I wouldn't suggest the place but wouldn't block it either.
google avatar

Briana G.

Yelp
Quite literally a dupe for din tai fung! Broccoli is incredible and if you like garlic, it's a plus! Surprisingly the Thai tea with boba is so goood! Love bringing my family here when they come visit.
google avatar

Sheryl F.

Yelp
Great menu without the long lines of Din Tai Fung. The beef roll was my favorite other than the XLB.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this place but it always seemed too busy. However, yesterday midday looked pretty slow and decided to finally give it a try. As far as authenticity goes I am not sure how on par that is but I thought it was pretty good! We weren't too hungry so we got 3 items: the pork and shrimp dumplings, pork soup dumplings and pickled cucumbers. I think our favorite were the handmade pork and shrimp dumplings. They give you the option of either steaming, frying or cooking the handmade dumplings in chili oil and we went with the chili oil option. The cucumbers were good but expensive for what they were, nearly the price of the dumplings I believe. I will say for this style of food and the quantity given it is pretty pricy so that's where I am knocking off a star but not complaints on the food or service! The service was good. Not sure if it was just because it was slow but I can't complain, we liked our waiter! The decor is clean and classy and the seating area is open concept. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items!
google avatar

Veronica A.

Yelp
Dumplings didn't make the pic but also weren't that amazing. The short rib noodles and garlic green beans on the other hand, A MUST! Service was lacking even though there was a lot of them. Very open layout of the restaurant in a cute shopping center.
google avatar

Bettina K.

Yelp
I'm not quite sure why this place has received such low ratings. The food was excellent our server was very kind and professional. The only criticism I would have is it seemed they were a bit understaffed and she was a bit oversat. She seemed really slammed but a good server. Facility is very clean and the food is genuinely high quality. Next time we are in the area we will more than likely go back!

Yelp
We came on a Friday afternoon and got seated right away. The service and the food were very quick. My friend and I decided to order a bunch of dishes to split. We got - pork & dungeness crab xiao long bao steamed (5) - pork & shrimp handmade dumplings crispy (5) - short rib dan mein (full size) - string beans with garlic (half size) First off this was the perfect amount of food for the two of us- we were debating getting a half-size for the noodles but I'm glad we didn't. I would honestly say the xiao long bao here is comparable to din tai fung's. The wrapper is super thin here and the broth is very clear. I'm not sure what happened but I feel like our xiao long bao only tasted of pork - I had a hard time finding or at least tasting any crab. I, personally, prefer when xiao long bao have thicker wrappers but I definitely appreciate the finesse that went into making these. I would definitely recommend their handmade dumplings - they taste super fresh and the crispy topping adds a nice crunch. I also really like the shrimp inside these dumplings and would recommend this filling. The short rib dan was SO GOOD. highly recommend getting this and feel like this was one of the stand-out dishes specifically at this restaurant. There was a lot of short rib in the dish and each piece was super tender. The noodles had the perfect bite/chew to them almost bordering al dente. The string beans were amazing - it was honestly just simplly prepared (sauteed with garlic). However, it was nice to have some fresh veggies at the table and the garlic flavor was absolutely delicious. Overall, I really like this restaurant and would come again. It feels very elevated without being pretentious or completely inauthentic.

Yelp
Great place for dumplings! We enjoyed everything we ordered. The waiter was super friendly and even notified me when the pickled cucumber was available. The glass wall into the kitchen helps you see the food being prepared and is a fun way to experience this restaurant. I couldn't give it a five star because waiting for the check and to go boxes took a long time. But we did enjoy our meal and it was reasonably priced!

Yelp
We came to this place as a party of 8. We didn't have a reservation and the restaurant were able to be seated in the 15 minutes even though they said we could be seated right away. We order two of most items (1-6) and got 1) Pork and dungeness crab xiao long bao 2) Pork and shrimp xiao long bao 3) Crispy pork dumpling 4) Popcorn chicken 5) Spicy oxtail beef noodle soup 6) Dungeness crab fried rice 7) Popcorn shrimp 8) Short rib dan mein noodles Our party did not like the xiao long bao as much. We only ordered 2 of these because we only got 1 of each in the original order. The pork and shrimp xiao long bao was better than the other one. The crispy pork dumpling was very confusing. It comes upside down and it was weird that we had to tear it to eat it. I feel like the dish was mostly the crispy rice than the dumpling. The popcorn chicken was very salty and the sauce was too much as well. We gave it to the kids and they didn't finish it. We got the spicy oxtail beef noodle soup because it is a very small portion. It also wasn't spicy at all... The Dungeness crab fried rice was the favorite dish amongst all of us because of the flavors but we wanted more pieces of crab (there wasn't enough). The short rib dan mein noodles was my favorite. The beef was delicious and they give a good portion of vegetables. The service was fast and our waiter was very friendly. The food portions were mostly small plates so that's also partially why we ordered more food. The food is very expensive, especially considering how much you get. It's very nice inside, but I would not recommend going here.

Yelp
Dan? More like "Damn, this Chinese food is good!" I'm consistently satisfied with the variety and quality of the food. Great for dine-in or take-out! Service was prompt and friendly.
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
I love this place! The pea sprouts are my favorite and their soup dumplings are filled with so much soup. The portions are pretty small though so you do have to order a lot and it can get pricey. But still worth coming to!
google avatar

Mylinh D.

Yelp
My family dines here often and we are always happy with the food here. Our favorites are the Dan Shrimp noodles and the popcorn shrimp. My 4 year old can finish the whole order of the popcorn shrimp by himself. However, I was disappointed with the oxtail noodle soup. I've ordered it the last two times and it was lacking any flavor and the noodles were over cooked, a little mushy. The seaweed tofu salad was delicious, very spicy. Service here is always top notch. We appreciate the attention and atmosphere.
google avatar

Scott Z.

Yelp
I really like Dan Modern Chinese. Really tasty food. Good portions. Good service. Was a good take out experience also. The steamed dumplings are delicious. Three cup chicken is fantastic and there's so many noodle options. We liked the garlic broccoli too. The food is good. Really good.
google avatar

Pavid K.

Yelp
How is this even Chinese broccoli with garlic? It looks like frozen vegetables they microwaved. I have given this place a few chances and every time I return the service gets worse and worse. You are understaffed. Your food is mediocre. The soup dumplings are the only thing worth ordering. It's disappointing that you take up such good real estate in the Manhattan Village for such crappy overpriced, Chinese food. Hire more people please!
google avatar

Lily N.

Yelp
Food is fine but service is horrible. Some of it came out cold and we had to wait a long time to get it.
google avatar

Cathy N.

Yelp
They tried to emulate din tai fung. This was by far the worst "modern Chinese" food. Lacking in flavor and texture. The pickled cucumber tastes like straight vinegar. The green beans tasted like it was microwaved. The scallion pancakes had no flavor or crisp. The pork xlb was overfilled with soup and the inside was not good and very bland. I would not recommend this restaurant other than the ambiance.
google avatar

Vivianne V.

Yelp
Food was fair with the exception of the noodle dish we ordered. Meat was overcooked and almost burnt and dish was so saucy and salty. Overall, service was good.

Yelp
5-Star spot!! dan! Which I found out stands for Dumpling And Noodle. I was a little reluctant to come here because of the Dan-name, but I ended walking by the restaurant and thought I'd take chance. Place looks very modern, and it's in a shopping strip. I had the dan noodles with chicken and steamed chicken dumplings. The Latino chefs are killing it here! The noodle dish was excellent, basic ingredients but off the chart in taste. The steamed dumplings are just as tasty. dan modern chinese have a few locations in the LA area. This place is definitely worth your time and effort. Shout-out to KJ and his peer for holding it down; only a 2-man team tonight, excellent job!! **Flight Attendant approved**

Yelp
Food was awesome! Xander was a great server great recs, great service and cool vibe . Soup dumpling was sick!!'

Dear, E.

Yelp
I love a place with options that are vegan friendly and this restaurant truly gave me the enjoyment of vegan Chinese food without feeling like there was no flavor!! This place has such a comfortable atmosphere and beautiful decor with an open kitchen concept that allows you to watch the chef's kill it in the kitchen! Super grateful to our wonderful server and the entire staff for answering questions and being very attentive to us! This is for sure a must eat place! We will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Kate U.

Yelp
Wanted to try something new and we chose this spot for lunch. The young man who helped us gave great recommendations of his favorite menu items. In addition to what is pictured, we also had the pork Xiaolong bao and scallion pancakes. Everything was tasty and the prices were very reasonable. I would come back here over the "larger chain" restaurant. There was no wait, service was attentive, and it was bright and clean inside.

Yelp
Matt is our server and this is all HANDS DOWN! Sheek, Clean, and friendly staff. Food is delicious, fresh and inviting. Server (Matt) is VERY ATTENTIVE! And the best thing of all is that I didn't break the bank for a very good lunch meal. Thank you Matt will be back! I got a zillion pictures.

Yelp
So the food itself is pretty average. Noodle dishes are not bag but it's a place where you should expect one or two xiao long baos in the tray to be popped by the time it comes to you given carelessness. Would give 3 stars on this But the reason I'm giving it one star is because I've experienced here that I've NEVER experienced anywhere else. We're at a table thats 3 smaller tables pushed together with 3 adults and 4 kids. We've just finished most of our order but, while we were eating, ordered a few additional dumplings and were waiting on it. I'm standing up holding a baby so one part of the table has a bunch of empty dishes as well as a jacket, my car keys, and a bag of kids stuff. Someone who I assume is the manager (not a server, hasn't come by before) comes by and says "can I clear this?" and points to the one side of the table that has all the empty dishes. We say sure. She proceeds to take the jacket/keys/kids bag and put it on the other side of the table (still live with some food and pretty messy given...kids), clears off the table she pointed to, and then pushes that entire table to another party. She doesn't see that she puts my personal items onto a part of the table that has soy sauce and my stuff gets dirty. So I'm left standing, I don't have a table to sit back at, and I have my stuff with soy sauce on it. I'm in shock so when she comes by again I just tell her she got my stuff dirty and she says "i'm sorry" and wipes it off with the table rag (its already soaked through) and walks away. Never asks if we were still eating or if food was coming, doesn't ask about my personal items, and just walks away. She doesn't clear the rest of the table so its not like they thought that we were finished. No other interaction with the manager rest of the night. W T F

Yelp
I was very surprised at how much I liked dan modern chinese. My friend and I were iffy about trying this place because I saw some bad reviews on Yelp but was glad we tried it for ourselves because we loved coming here. There are a bunch of different Chinese and Taiwanese food here. We got the short rib dan mein noodles, pork xiao long baos and bok choy. They were all very good, but I would definitely say that you have to get the short rib dan mein noodles because those were the best! The only thing I would say is they seem short staffed because the workers looked like they were working very hard, handling many tables. Just have to be a little patient waiting for a check or more water. Dan Modern Chinese is located at Manhattan Village near alo and Sprinkles Cupcakes outside. There is free parking in the structure nearby. I would recommend this place to other people.

Yelp
Something changed, portions are smaller and the quality & service have declined; crab pieces were smaller, green beans were soggy and small, we requested the dumplings well done & crispy and they were basically steamed, chopsticks missing, our takeout order was 20 minutes late this is after waiting 1 hr. An overpriced disappointment... not planning to return.

Yelp
The service was off the charts. The server was attentive, kind, prompt and thoughtful. The soup dumplings were good, as were the potstickers... but the cucumbers did not taste good. The sauce was hardly palatable. I really wanted to like it... I usually love cucumbers in a spicy sauce, but this was doused in something that was hard to stomach. And the cucumbers looked old. The service saved the day as the food was mid.

Yelp
We came here for a quick dinner on a Sunday evening. The soup dumplings were good - we tried the spicy and regular pork and enjoyed both. They came out fast after ordering! They were extremely understaffed and only had two servers for the restaurant. When you go, be prepared to wait but it is worth it.

Yelp
Could be better! Now I say this primarily because our oxtail soup came out lukewarm. It was flavorful still but not quite hot like soups should be. I did however very much liked the xiao long bao or xlb. I got the pork and shrimp while the wife got chicken. Impressive and had more broth than other dimsum places in the South Bay. Will be back again soon and hopefully my next visit will be a better experience.

Yelp
Came here for a working lunch with a couple of other colleagues on a Thursday around noon and were seated immediately (no reservations needed). Indoor dining only. Free garage parking available. Credit cards accepted. Food is family-style sharing. Definitely get the short rib dan mein - the noodles are thick and chewy, which are my two favorite adjectives when it comes to noodles. The pan fried and pan fried crispy dumplings were different in that the latter had a flatter surface area so there was more crisp. They do have vegetarian options. The crispy green beans are also a good accompaniment. The xiao long bao was alright; not enough of the broth inside the dumplings stayed. The iced jasmine tea is really refreshing (and unsweetened).
