21 New San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant Openings to Get Excited About, April 2025 | Eater SF

"Restaurateur Janet Soh opened her third Danbi in Los Altos, described as the city’s first Korean restaurant by the Mercury News; the menu features staples like bibimbap and kimchi pancakes, and Soh has said she’d like to have five total down the road." - Dianne de Guzman

Danbi Korean Restaurant Los Gatos

Google
Fresh ingredients, but no flavor. Probably the least flavorful soft tofu soup I have ever had. Much better flavors in other places near the area.

Mark H.

Google
Exciting to see a Korean spot in Los Gatos! But honestly, it was just okay. It was easy to make a reservation and reserve a table - thank you. The meat dishes were a bit pricey, and the bibimbap wasn’t hot enough, I was hoping for that crispy rice at the bottom. The egg came already fried instead of raw, so you couldn’t mix and cook it in the bowl. It’s an alright place, but nothing special.

Google
Finally the first Korean restaurant in downtown Los Gatos opened!! The first impression of the restaurant was modern and clean, the food was so delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I loved their traditional but modern gold dishes and gold lightings. The servers were very friendly and I can't wait to go back to try other dishes.

Jerri W.

Google
Tried for the first time today. Asked for recommendations as I’m newer to Korean food. The recommendations were amazing! Tofu soup came with an egg to crack at the table. The kimchi rice had a nice crispy bottom. Glass noodles were tasty. Recommend and will come back!

Google
Food is not super authentic and taste is mixed. Seafood pancake was actually pretty good, I had to return the galbi tang because it was hard to chew, the chef said it’s supposed to taste like that but that’s my favorite dish so I know what it tastes like. I changed to bibimbap and it’s just ok, sauce was too sweet.

Hannah R.

Google
Everything about this place was so awesome! The owner Sunny was so incredibly kind and attentive, the food was really good - although I wish the cheese on my cheese tteokbokki was a little more melted - but that was the most of my problems. The food was delicious, service was spot on and the atmosphere was modern and lively. Will definitely be returning!

Google
Delicious fried rice for a quick lunch. Kimchi was also very tasty.

Google
I’ve not eaten much Korean food so I was looking forward to getting some recommendations and enjoying my meal. I wasn’t disappointed at all. The staff were all well presented, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The portion sizes were very generous, I needed a few boxes to go home with.

Yelp
Is Danbi my fave local Korean restaurant? Maybe it Can Be? I have other faves in Cupertino and San Jose that are different concepts but this one's a Dandy. Everything we've had here has been great so Danbi is hardly a Plan B. In fact is I'd say the food here is Outstandy. I kinda crave Danbi like Candy. My best loved dishes are the Vegetable Pancake and the Bi Bim Bap with tofu. My son loves the Korean Short Ribs, the Soft Tofu Soups and the Korean Fried Chicken. My wife is more focused on all the wonderful side dishes including their amazing Kimchi. If I get too hot from the spicy I can Fan Me. The first time we ordered my wife routed it to the N 1st location by mistake so that left me Cranky. We used to go to the prior restaurant in this space so we don't want to lose Danbi too - that would be a Calamity. Great place. We wish Danbi great resilience and Longevity!

Yelp
Good Korean food located at the Los Gatos Town Plaza. My wife and I had dinner here tonight for the first time. I say first time, since we were impressed and will be back. We had the Beef Short Ribs ($38.95). On the recommendation of the waiter we split the plate since it was a generous portion that was indeed enough for the two of us. It was very tasty! The short ribs were tender and were served over cabbage with a delicious sauce. This was accompanied by several small Korean side dishes (spicy Radishes, Kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, another pickled dish, broccoli, and rice). There is outdoor seating, but it was too cold tonight and nobody was out there. The decor is basic. The service was very attentive and friendly. The people seated next to us had been there many times and recommended several dishes that we will try on future visits.

Yelp
New Korean spot in Los Gatos. Food, service, and ambiance were all great, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. The place really gave off the vibe of being in Korea. We ordered the spicy fried chicken, budae jjigae (army stew), and osam bulgogi (octopus and pork stir fry). Everything was delicious and hit the spot on a rainy fall night. I'm not drinking right now, but the dishes would've paired perfectly with a bottle of soju. They also had a nice selection of local Asian craft beers and other drinks that I'll check out next time. Overall, a solid Korean option without having to drive all the way to El Camino.

Yelp
The more distance I get from eating here, the more fondly I remember it and it was good the first time we went. Danbi is a great new Korean restaurant in Los Gatos. The selection is great and the service is even better. While this isn't an AYCE Korean BBQ, it's quality and quantity are worthwhile. FOOD: We tried the spicy pork and the bulgogi and I had to have the mandu and all of it was terrific. Great flavor all around. The banchan (little plates of mostly pickled veggies) were all tasty and fresh. They weren't sitting around endlessly as some places have them. The flavor of each dish was nice (hopefully they took our advice and added more of their yummy sauce). SERVICE: Exceptional! They were so friendly and the portions were really nice. Very clean surroundings. The ambiance was spacious and stylish. COST: Really good! For what you get, it was worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Rare Korean gem in downtown Los Gatos. Good food but on the pricey side for the portion Food Quality Mandu: Excellent fillings with crispy (not overfried) skin Spicy Fried Chicken: Absolute hit! Flavorful and addictive Beef Short Ribs: Good flavor but quite fatty Kimchi & Pork Soft Tofu: Average, nothing special Side dishes could be more generous for the price point Service Experience Friendly and attentive staff Got complimentary seafood pancake samples! Value for Money Definitely on the pricey side. Likely reflects the prime downtown Los Gatos location Cleanliness & Atmosphere Very clean and family-friendly environment

Yelp
This was our second time trying this restaurant - the first time was takeout but this time we ate on site. We had the Galbi Tang, The Soy Glazed Chicken and the Bulgogi Fried rice. The food was excellent and so was the service. Eating the food fresh out of the kitchen made a positive difference, especially for the soy glazed chicken. We look forward to returning.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Really good, wholesome Korean food with a very friendly & down to earth owner. Located in downtown Los Gatos with ample street parking or a lot nearby. We got seafood pancake, bibimbap, kalbi tang and bulgogi and everything was very good. Highly recommend and looks like you can even call ahead to make reservations for big groups.
google avatar

Neikan M.

Yelp
Food was really good. Unfortunately, I've had much better Korean food so it's difficult for me to give a 5 star rating. Short ribs were good but a little rough, not ideal. Side dishes were good and the edamame was steamed well. Again, this is a great option for people wanting Korean food, but is it the best Korean food I have ever had? No. Service was good, establishment was clean
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
Danbi is a decently authentic Korean restaurant in downtown Los Gatos. The location is great as it's peaceful and overlooks the park. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. The service is friendly and quick. They acknowledged the spicy food wasn't very spicy at all. You can order here without any "dragon ball" concerns. Anyway the food was good. We got the KFC (Korean fried chicken) with the soy glaze which was delicious. The meat was perfectly tender and flavorful. It was fried but not overly breaded. The Mandu tofu soup was good. We ordered medium and it was really really mild. There were plenty of ingredients including the beef, tofu and dumplings. The banchan was fine. It seemed like it came straight from H-mart but I don't have any complaints.
google avatar

Tracy R.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Love the outdoor seating. Every dish is good especially the tteokbokki.

Yelp
3.5 STARS Danbi had me at Cheese Dolsot! Oozy, stretchy cheese has me feeling some type of way...as a lactose intolerant. But worth it! Opening last month, this is Danbi's third location in the South Bay. Takeout, delivery, indoor dining, and outdoor dining (dog-friendly) available. No wait for weekend dinner. Rezzies accepted. M E N U Korean Cuisine Staples: Mandu (dumplings), Jeon (pancakes), KFC (K fried chicken), Tang (soup), Soondubu (tofu soup), JJjigae (stew), BBQ Meat, Ramyun (K instant ramen), and more. Liquor license pending. F O O D * Complimentary Banchan: Kimchi cabbage, kimchi radish, bean sprouts, fish cakes, and soy sauce pickles (daikon+onions). Fresh, good quality but I felt the flavors were lacking. Fav: fish cakes, least fav: bean sprouts (needed seasoning). Kimchi looked great but was mild and lacked fermentation (tang). * Soy Glazed KFC (8 pc-$23.95): https://tinyurl.com/yhz49j6b - Includes bowl of rice (didn't receive) Meaty, juicy wings but batter had softened from the soy glaze which didn't have much flavor. Prefer the style with garlic. * Cheese Dolsot w/ rice, spicy pork (not spicy), bell peppers, cheese, egg, banchan ($23.95): https://tinyurl.com/38juwrw9 My fav part was the scorched crispy rice on the bottom of the sizzling pot with the stretchy cheese. Some of the cheese got crispy and carmelized..so good! Unfortunately, there was sparse amount of diced spicy pork that was bland and not spicy at all. We should of asked for gochujang to season it. * Galbi: Beef Short Ribs ($38.95): https://tinyurl.com/e5d56atm - Includes bowl of rice I liked that that the LA cut short ribs had prominent grill marks but the thinner than usual cuts were overcooked so it was missing that rich, lush texture. Also, 1/3rds were merely bones with attached connective tissues/tendons hidden underneath the larger cuts. Served over a bed of cabbage versus the usual onions which adds more flavor. S E R V I C E Staff was very friendly and kind but no check-ins. Food took quite a bit to arrive. A M B I A N C E Modern and spacious indoor dining area with open kitchen. Nice, shaded parklet with lawn views of the town plaza park. P A R K I N G Street, lot, and garage parking. We easily found parking a block away. Overall, we thought the K food was just ok, maybe it's a matter of working out the kinks. I haven't tried Danbi's SJ locations so I have no basis for comparison. IMO, the flavors/heat seems toned down for the western palate, at least compared to the K restos in Santa Clara. Rounding up for the dog-friendly patio and for being the first and only K resto in LG.

Eric I.

Yelp
We tried this for the first time the other day. It's nice to have a Korean place close by in Los Gatos. The food was good, no complaints. But I wouldn't say it was special or outstanding compared to other good Korean places, but it was solid. For what you get, it's on the pricey side. I kind of get that because it's located right in the heart of downtown Los Gatos. But nevertheless the value for your $ was not quite there. Service was just fine. Would we come here again? Maybe, for convenience sake. But it didn't really make our go-to/recommend to friends list.
google avatar

Will C.

Yelp
Great Korean comfort food. I got the Budae Jjigae (Army Stew), and it was delicious. I liked that they offer a single serving because lots of other places usually offer Budae Jjigae only as a 2+ person serving. There's plenty of seating and service was really good. Great place for casual Korean food!
google avatar

Yelp
This new restaurant is situated right by Parkside, facing the lawn where the LG Farmers Market occurs. Services was friendly and warm. Our delightful dining experience began with a delicious tea (not sure what kind, but wish I knew). Husband got bulgogi rice and I ordered seafood ramen. Both were scrumptious, and we would get them again. Veggies were spectacular, and the zucchini was the best I've ever had in my life! The kimchi and radish were also packing lots of flavor, while offering a crunch that contrasted with the softness of the noodles. Portions were good and we felt the menu offered a variety of dishes. My dish was a little spicy, but not as spicy as the medium salsa at Trader Joe's for reference. Atmosphere was a little underwhelming, though it was very calm. Husband and I were able to relax instantly. We will for sure be back!
google avatar

Debbie L.

Yelp
I'm finally ready to leave them a review after they worked out their grand opening kinks from a few months ago. I've been here three times already in the last month and consistently found their nurungji (That's the crunchy rice at the bottom of the hot stone dishes) is crisped to perfection and ingredients always very fresh and flavorful. They also put a perfect runny egg on top of your hot stone pot dishes (tip: you need to tell them in advance you want it run since a lot of people like it fully cooked). Their soups are very flavorful too. Large restaurant for big gatherings possible and now that there's free parking next to the post office it makes parking in downtown Los Gatos easier! They are located to the right of Parkside Café if you need a landmark location for reference.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
This was quite mediocre to be honest. It was an exact clone of the seafood tofu stew from SGD Tofu House in Santa Clara (which has gone downhill fast over the years). It's basically tofu stew out of a kit, that's the vibe I get. 2 small clams, some cubes of squid, two small salted shrimp (not even proper prawns). At least SGD gives you purple rice, this place was just plain white rice. Banchan was nothing to write home about. They need to ditch the soft tofu stew premade kits and do a facelift if they are to survive in this Los Gatos area. My friend ordered the hot stone bowl rice and was similarly not impressed. Am not coming back.
google avatar

Nith V.

Yelp
Was very excited that we now have Korean food in Los Gatos. Was able to go for lunch at this restaurant today. It's a pretty big restaurant with outside seating too. The service is good as well. However when it comes to food, we were sorely disappointed and would go back to our old haunts. The fried rice was an actual "fried" rice with no flavor and lacked salt. The bibimbap was okay and the mackerel was the only thing that was liked by my kid and husband. It was served on bed of badly chopped cabbage which didn't look very appealing. There were just 5 accompaniments and they were okay. Three stars coz everything was okay and nothing was bad.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
I have been to their OG location in San Jose many times and rated it 5. I was surprised to see that they had a new location in downtown LG. We do need a Korean place and a good one at that. Danbi fits the bill. As expected, the food was great. Everything we ordered was delish. Service was great, the owner was super nice. They are not fully set up yet...they don't have permanent signage or their beer/wine license yet so don't be surprised when you go in. This location has not been lucky for the previous businesses and I really hope Danbi does great and is here for the long term.
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
Great newish korean place in Los Gatos serving authentic Korean dishes without crazy LG pricing. The portions are generous, the side dishes delicious and servers nice and friendly. Definitely stop by when in town.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING and I could really taste the authenticity of it all. We ordered the Bi bim Bap, tteokbokki, and seafood pancake. The seafood pancake and tteokbokki were our favorites. Service and presenwas remarkable. The waiters were very accommodating and kind. Was not loud at all inside, Korean music was playing but not loud and conversations were easily heard. Overall I give this place a 20/10. Definitely coming here again, my new comfort food lol
google avatar

Nata M.

Yelp
Amazing food! Super delicious! Ambiance is inviting, very clean and great vibes and music! service was excellent!
google avatar

Eliza C.

Yelp
As a Korean American, I'm always a bit cautious when trying Korean restaurants, but this spot in downtown Los Gatos truly impressed me. I recently visited with my mom, who is visiting from Korea, and she also really enjoyed her meal. They have many options and the flavors were authentic and delicious. We ordered the spicy pork hot stone pot, yookgaejang and dukmandu gook dupling soup. All very tasty! It's wonderful to see diverse food options in Los Gatos. Highly recommend if you're craving real Korean food or looking to try something new. We will add this restaurant to our local rotation.
google avatar

Elsie Y.

Yelp
The soy glazed korean fried chicken was delicious - a savory sweet treat with perfect external crispiness and internal tenderness. The mandu tofu soup was good. The side dish offerings were limited compared to similar restaurants in the area. Service was efficient, attentive, and friendly. The restaurant is well maintained and located in a cozy spot across from a small park.
google avatar

Glenn M.

Yelp
Delicious as ever! Have eaten at all three locations of Danbi. 4 of us had lunch here. We ordered several dishes and ate family style. Korean short ribs, spicy chicken and Meat Jun. Plus two pancakes (seafood and veggie) and Jap Chae noodles for appetizers. Everything was delicious! The service very attentive and the ambiance was excellent too! Glad we have such an awesome place like Danbi in the Los Gatos Area!
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
So delicious! The service was very attentive and the food was so tasty! I really liked the short rib and the radish kimchi. The regular cabbage kimchi was a bit too sweet, but I know some people prefer it sweeter. The hot stone pot made crispy rice at the bottom and it was so good! The interior was clean and comfortable, despite it being a bit warmer inside since it was a hot day. Would come back!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Maybe 3.5 stars is better. Very glad to see a Korean bbq place open in Los Gatos. Service was very friendly and attentive. Restaurant is spacious, clean and modern largely benefited from the last restaurant that was there. I was pleased to see the banchon were quite on point, which is always one of the first things to check. They are spicy pork was very good. What brought the restaurant down to three stars was the jap chae was a little too greasy and lacked flavor. And the meat jun also was a little too eggy and cut of meat was a little tough. Also not a large serving. I think it's great to have a local joint in town now and and hope they get good business
google avatar

Charleen R.

Yelp
Had the bibimbap with tofu for lunch. Perfectly cooked crispy rice in a hot stone bowl, just the way I like it!! YUM. I will be back for more of that!!! Service was very friendly. Interior was open and bright. Outdoor seating was pleasant, right on the park. Pricing was on the high side, but comparable to other restaurants in downtown Los Gatos. Happy to have a great Korean restaurant in Los Gatos.
google avatar

Jianming L.

Yelp
Don't see other Korean restaurant in Saratoga- Los Gatos area, Danbi filled the gap. This is my first visit, It is right by the parkside, environment is very good. Only one dish is order this time, price is reasonable, taste is ok, don't expect it is a fine food with its price tag. Give 4 star to encourage a new restaurant
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
So excited about Danbi in Los Gatos! I use to go to their older location closer to the court house in San Jose. The location is great if you want some excellent Korean food. They give you a good amount of Bon Chon (picked radish, Kim chee and other small bites) the food is delicious as I got the rice cake with cheese thokbokki and my buddy ordered their Meat Jun (If you've been to hawaii IYKYK) thin cuts of beef coated in egg and fried with a dipping sauces (bomb) must try this new Korean spot in Los Gatos. We also shared a Tofu shop Excellent family run business highly recommended
google avatar

Tasha S.

Yelp
Such a welcome addition to the neighborhood! We found parking right away, the restaurant is bright and spacious. The food was delicious and the service was great - everyone was so friendly and helpful. I found the spice level very appropriate for Korean food and we loved everything but especially the stew. All the banchan were tasty and plentiful. Can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Clare H.

Yelp
Really wanted this place to be good but overall, it was ok. The meal was not memorable except for the kalbi.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Great food, friendly service, clean and inviting ambience. Need I say more?? Oh perhaps just one more...If you haven't gone yet, please GO and check it out.
google avatar

Bailey R.

Yelp
Good food and friendly service. Was delighted to find they have meat Jun which isn't common. Had an enjoyable and peaceful lunch with friends on a beautiful Saturday in Los Gatos. I think this is the same owner as the Danbi on 1st Street in San Jose.
google avatar

shira r.

Yelp
Good food and good service! Our girls are absolutely loving it, and now we do to. We'll be coming back :-)
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Great food! I stop here at least twice a month for the Bi Bim Bop and fried rice. Great sides and friendly service.

Ethan L.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! There's never been a good Korean restaurant in Los Gatos so I would always have to drive down to Cupertino but I'm so happy this place opened up! The service and food is spot on and the staff is very friendly. I also enjoy the outdoor seating right by the park. The Banchan is amazing and they have a big menu. I recommend the dol-sot bibimbap, chicken wings, and the beef short ribs. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Shana L.

Yelp
Fantastic new spot in Los Gatos! The bibimbap was excellent! Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Loved that all the fermented sides (banchan) are made in-house, super tasty and authentic. Great selection of Korean beers, warm and friendly service, and a lovely patio right next to the park. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
New still but the food is pretty good. Service is nice and friendly and this restaurant has lots of seating. Parking is a bit of a pain but that isn't the restaurant's fault. I enjoyed my yookgarjang.
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
We went with another couple and tried the new south SJ location. Ordered our favorites to have family style, and everything was soooo good! Ended up going the next week to the new Los Gatos location with family of 5 and again, it did not disappoint! Delicious!
google avatar

Serafina A.

Yelp
Food was really good! We ordered a multitude of entrees and just shared with the table. The owner who took our order is super sweet and friendly and was very accommodating and helpful to us. The short ribs were delicious and the fish cakes with cheese were also amazing. The ambience of this place is definitely casual nestled into the downtown area of Los Gatos. Will definitely be returning here!
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
Very fresh food. Authentic Korean food with nice tastes and good service. Went for early dinner and the staff was super nice. Place has a low key vibe. Food came quickly was of good quality. Love the diversity for Losgatos.
google avatar

Mik K.

Yelp
The service was very attentive and quick and the food was super delicious!! All the marinades and sauces were very very flavorful. We had galbi, bulgogi, and two different types of dol sot bibimbap. A definite highlight was the dol sot bowls were hot enough to toast the rice nicely. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Jiyoung O.

Yelp
So excited to try this first Korean restaurant in town of Los Gatos! We had Kbbq, kimchi stone pot rice, beef bone soup, and spicy tofu soups. The Korean BBQ is always good in any K restaurant, but generally it is not my taste because it's too sweet for me. However all my friends loved it. Beef bone soup is mild traditional Korean soul food. The soup was not really seasoned. If you are not a Korean you probably don't know what it supposed to taste like. So they should have some seasoning for non Korean customers. My friend think it was too blend. Not much flavorful. The tofu soups were all pretty good. If you are not good with spicy food you should order it as mild version. The stone pot kimchi bibimbob was a lot of portion. Love the way they serve as very hot. They refilled the side dishes. Overall it's ok.
google avatar

Monique P.

Yelp
So glad there is finally a Korean place in Downtown Los Gatos! Not only that, but the dishes are super authentic. Every dish we had was fantastic and some of the best Korean we have ever had (that's saying a lot since we just came back from a trip to Korea). The service was wonderful even at soft open. They were super kind to us and our son. It will definitely be one of our local neighborhood favorites going forward!
google avatar

Siyeon J.

Yelp
The Korean food was very authentic and it tastes just as good as what you can eat in Korea. The army stew the was definitely the standout item I had. I will surely come again soon.
google avatar

Yvonne K.

Yelp
One of the best authentic Korean restaurants in the Bay Area. Everything is so good. They e been open two weeks and we have been there 4 times. My son and his friends have been there so many times I've lost count. If you love like or haven't ever had Korean food this should be your place. The ramen is excellent. So so good.
google avatar

Jeanne R.

Yelp
Just opened 3 weeks ago. We love Korean food and were excited to have a Korean restaurant in Los Gatos. The decor is simple and the dining area is filled with natural sunlight facing the park. They have an extensive menu with all the traditional favorites and more. The food was delicious and freshly made to order. Nice variety of traditional pickled vegetables to go along with your food. The dishes are easy to share if you go with a group. The food was mild, and came with a squeeze bottle of sauce if you want it spicy. They have outdoor seating, which is perfect for spring and summer dining. It would be fun to pick up some food to go during the Jazz on the Plazz series. Very friendly staff and quick service. All in all a fun place to eat and a welcome addition to Los Gatos.
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Very cute new restaurant with a great location by the town plaza. The Dol Sot is excellent. I'm also a fan of their vegetable pancake. I have eaten there twice now and look forward to going back.

Yelp
Korean food... in Downtown Los Gatos?!? YES! FINALLY! And it's really really good! Having recently moved into the old Montebello cafe's place, this authentic Korean restaurant has hit the ground running. Spacious, clean and bright, it's a family-friendly place that can accommodate parties large and small. Wide selection of noodles, pancakes, soups and BBQ will please virtually every lover of Korean cuisine. We had the japchae (glass noodle beef), kimchi jeon (fried kimchi pancake), BBQ galbi (marinated short rib) and sunbudu jjigae (kimchi, pork and silken tofu soup) served bubbling in an iron bowl. All served with a good variety of banchan (appetizers). Everything was amazingly delicious and served quickly with a smile! Fantastic service. Can't wait to go back!
