21 New San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant Openings to Get Excited About, April 2025 | Eater SF

"Restaurateur Janet Soh opened her third Danbi in Los Altos, described as the city’s first Korean restaurant by the Mercury News; the menu features staples like bibimbap and kimchi pancakes, and Soh has said she’d like to have five total down the road." - Dianne de Guzman

Exciting to see a Korean spot in Los Gatos! But honestly, it was just okay. It was easy to make a reservation and reserve a table - thank you. The meat dishes were a bit pricey, and the bibimbap wasn’t hot enough, I was hoping for that crispy rice at the bottom. The egg came already fried instead of raw, so you couldn’t mix and cook it in the bowl. It’s an alright place, but nothing special.

Finally the first Korean restaurant in downtown Los Gatos opened!! The first impression of the restaurant was modern and clean, the food was so delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I loved their traditional but modern gold dishes and gold lightings. The servers were very friendly and I can't wait to go back to try other dishes.

Google
Food is not super authentic and taste is mixed. Seafood pancake was actually pretty good, I had to return the galbi tang because it was hard to chew, the chef said it’s supposed to taste like that but that’s my favorite dish so I know what it tastes like. I changed to bibimbap and it’s just ok, sauce was too sweet.

The food here is solid. The Korean short ribs, rice cakes and soups were great! I also highly recommend the seafood pancake. However, the service here was pretty slow. It took so long for the food to come out and they rushed us out at closing :( Good food but probably won't be back

Danbi is a delightful new addition to the downtown neighborhood that just did a "soft launch" less than a week ago. They don't have signage or interior design completed yet, but they DO have delicious, authentic Korean fare under the careful eye of owner/operator and deliberate chef, Sunny. She claimed it was "just simple fare", but we very much appreciated the thought and careful consideration of all her choices. We tried the seafood pancake and basic fried chicken with a pot of jasmine green tea and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavors and textures. The pancake was out of this world - thick and hearty in the middle, loaded with seafood and absolute crunchy perfection on the outside. The chicken was also so sharply crispy all over and super moist in the middle. You might think two fried dishes would leave us feeling heavy, but the ultra fresh fermented or barely-blanched veggie banchan left us with such cleansed palates that we felt great even after eating all the generous portions. The dressings and sauces were spiced and salted *just right*, so it didn't leave us feeling like we had overeaten or had a post-salt thirst. The spices never overpowered the flavor of the ingredients, allowing us to really experience the freshness of everything in each dish. Small details also made a big difference - the fried foods and cold dishes are served in hollow, insulated stainless steel plates, so the crispy fried foods remained piping hot even seated next to an open door on this blustery, stormy day. It wasn't a race against time to get to all the hot food first because it just ...stayed hot and crispy... which wouldn't be the case if it were served in standard stoneware. What a delight. Clearly this is just second nature to her and she takes her own fine taste for granted. We can't wait for other neighbors to try out this new spot and get to know more of the beautiful creations on her menu, especially as the weather warms up and she's able to open the patio soon. Thank you Sunny for sharing your own bright spot in the heart of town!

Google
Really great Korean food, would definitely go back. We got the seafood pancake and bulgogi beef clear noodles. They tasted so good! The place had a great atmosphere and really nice staff.

Google
It’s the best Galbi tang I’ve had in my life! So good to the point that I went there 2 days in a row while visiting Los Gatos. Danbi please tell me which part of the beef it is made with, I’d love to try recreate it!

Google
I just had a delicious dinner at the Los Gatos location of Danbi Korean Restaurant (there is another one on First St, SJ and another in Santa Theresa Sq). The food was excellent as was the service. The server (owner this time) explained the dishes, how important color and variety are in Korean cuisine, and how to eat the dishes. We shared the seafood pancake and Hot Stone version of bibimbap, which the server mixed up for us and explained you eat it with the spoon. The side dishes were fresh and yummy. I recommend Danbi highly!

Yelp
Great Korean comfort food. I got the Budae Jjigae (Army Stew), and it was delicious. I liked that they offer a single serving because lots of other places usually offer Budae Jjigae only as a 2+ person serving. There's plenty of seating and service was really good. Great place for casual Korean food!

Yelp
As a Korean American, I'm always a bit cautious when trying Korean restaurants, but this spot in downtown Los Gatos truly impressed me. I recently visited with my mom, who is visiting from Korea, and she also really enjoyed her meal. They have many options and the flavors were authentic and delicious. We ordered the spicy pork hot stone pot, yookgaejang and dukmandu gook dupling soup. All very tasty! It's wonderful to see diverse food options in Los Gatos. Highly recommend if you're craving real Korean food or looking to try something new. We will add this restaurant to our local rotation.

Yelp
Danbi is a decently authentic Korean restaurant in downtown Los Gatos. The location is great as it's peaceful and overlooks the park. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. The service is friendly and quick. They acknowledged the spicy food wasn't very spicy at all. You can order here without any "dragon ball" concerns. Anyway the food was good. We got the KFC (Korean fried chicken) with the soy glaze which was delicious. The meat was perfectly tender and flavorful. It was fried but not overly breaded. The Mandu tofu soup was good. We ordered medium and it was really really mild. There were plenty of ingredients including the beef, tofu and dumplings. The banchan was fine. It seemed like it came straight from H-mart but I don't have any complaints.
google avatar

Yelp
We tried this for the first time the other day. It's nice to have a Korean place close by in Los Gatos. The food was good, no complaints. But I wouldn't say it was special or outstanding compared to other good Korean places, but it was solid. For what you get, it's on the pricey side. I kind of get that because it's located right in the heart of downtown Los Gatos. But nevertheless the value for your $ was not quite there. Service was just fine. Would we come here again? Maybe, for convenience sake. But it didn't really make our go-to/recommend to friends list.

Yelp
Great newish korean place in Los Gatos serving authentic Korean dishes without crazy LG pricing. The portions are generous, the side dishes delicious and servers nice and friendly. Definitely stop by when in town.

Yelp
3.5 STARS Danbi had me at Cheese Dolsot! Oozy, stretchy cheese has me feeling some type of way...as a lactose intolerant. But worth it! Opening last month, this is Danbi's third location in the South Bay. Takeout, delivery, indoor dining, and outdoor dining (dog-friendly) available. No wait for weekend dinner. Rezzies accepted. M E N U Korean Cuisine Staples: Mandu (dumplings), Jeon (pancakes), KFC (K fried chicken), Tang (soup), Soondubu (tofu soup), JJjigae (stew), BBQ Meat, Ramyun (K instant ramen), and more. Liquor license pending. F O O D * Complimentary Banchan: Kimchi cabbage, kimchi radish, bean sprouts, fish cakes, and soy sauce pickles (daikon+onions). Fresh, good quality but I felt the flavors were lacking. Fav: fish cakes, least fav: bean sprouts (needed seasoning). Kimchi looked great but was mild and lacked fermentation (tang). * Soy Glazed KFC (8 pc-$23.95): https://tinyurl.com/yhz49j6b - Includes bowl of rice (didn't receive) Meaty, juicy wings but batter had softened from the soy glaze which didn't have much flavor. Prefer the style with garlic. * Cheese Dolsot w/ rice, spicy pork (not spicy), bell peppers, cheese, egg, banchan ($23.95): https://tinyurl.com/38juwrw9 My fav part was the scorched crispy rice on the bottom of the sizzling pot with the stretchy cheese. Some of the cheese got crispy and carmelized..so good! Unfortunately, there was sparse amount of diced spicy pork that was bland and not spicy at all. We should of asked for gochujang to season it. * Galbi: Beef Short Ribs ($38.95): https://tinyurl.com/e5d56atm - Includes bowl of rice I liked that that the LA cut short ribs had prominent grill marks but the thinner than usual cuts were overcooked so it was missing that rich, lush texture. Also, 1/3rds were merely bones with attached connective tissues/tendons hidden underneath the larger cuts. Served over a bed of cabbage versus the usual onions which adds more flavor. S E R V I C E Staff was very friendly and kind but no check-ins. Food took quite a bit to arrive. A M B I A N C E Modern and spacious indoor dining area with open kitchen. Nice, shaded parklet with lawn views of the town plaza park. P A R K I N G Street, lot, and garage parking. We easily found parking a block away. Overall, we thought the K food was just ok, maybe it's a matter of working out the kinks. I haven't tried Danbi's SJ locations so I have no basis for comparison. IMO, the flavors/heat seems toned down for the western palate, at least compared to the K restos in Santa Clara. Rounding up for the dog-friendly patio and for being the first and only K resto in LG.

Yelp
This new restaurant is situated right by Parkside, facing the lawn where the LG Farmers Market occurs. Services was friendly and warm. Our delightful dining experience began with a delicious tea (not sure what kind, but wish I knew). Husband got bulgogi rice and I ordered seafood ramen. Both were scrumptious, and we would get them again. Veggies were spectacular, and the zucchini was the best I've ever had in my life! The kimchi and radish were also packing lots of flavor, while offering a crunch that contrasted with the softness of the noodles. Portions were good and we felt the menu offered a variety of dishes. My dish was a little spicy, but not as spicy as the medium salsa at Trader Joe's for reference. Atmosphere was a little underwhelming, though it was very calm. Husband and I were able to relax instantly. We will for sure be back!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
This was quite mediocre to be honest. It was an exact clone of the seafood tofu stew from SGD Tofu House in Santa Clara (which has gone downhill fast over the years). It's basically tofu stew out of a kit, that's the vibe I get. 2 small clams, some cubes of squid, two small salted shrimp (not even proper prawns). At least SGD gives you purple rice, this place was just plain white rice. Banchan was nothing to write home about. They need to ditch the soft tofu stew premade kits and do a facelift if they are to survive in this Los Gatos area. My friend ordered the hot stone bowl rice and was similarly not impressed. Am not coming back.

Yelp
Was very excited that we now have Korean food in Los Gatos. Was able to go for lunch at this restaurant today. It's a pretty big restaurant with outside seating too. The service is good as well. However when it comes to food, we were sorely disappointed and would go back to our old haunts. The fried rice was an actual "fried" rice with no flavor and lacked salt. The bibimbap was okay and the mackerel was the only thing that was liked by my kid and husband. It was served on bed of badly chopped cabbage which didn't look very appealing. There were just 5 accompaniments and they were okay. Three stars coz everything was okay and nothing was bad.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
I have been to their OG location in San Jose many times and rated it 5. I was surprised to see that they had a new location in downtown LG. We do need a Korean place and a good one at that. Danbi fits the bill. As expected, the food was great. Everything we ordered was delish. Service was great, the owner was super nice. They are not fully set up yet...they don't have permanent signage or their beer/wine license yet so don't be surprised when you go in. This location has not been lucky for the previous businesses and I really hope Danbi does great and is here for the long term.

Yelp
The soy glazed korean fried chicken was delicious - a savory sweet treat with perfect external crispiness and internal tenderness. The mandu tofu soup was good. The side dish offerings were limited compared to similar restaurants in the area. Service was efficient, attentive, and friendly. The restaurant is well maintained and located in a cozy spot across from a small park.

Yelp
Delicious as ever! Have eaten at all three locations of Danbi. 4 of us had lunch here. We ordered several dishes and ate family style. Korean short ribs, spicy chicken and Meat Jun. Plus two pancakes (seafood and veggie) and Jap Chae noodles for appetizers. Everything was delicious! The service very attentive and the ambiance was excellent too! Glad we have such an awesome place like Danbi in the Los Gatos Area!
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
So delicious! The service was very attentive and the food was so tasty! I really liked the short rib and the radish kimchi. The regular cabbage kimchi was a bit too sweet, but I know some people prefer it sweeter. The hot stone pot made crispy rice at the bottom and it was so good! The interior was clean and comfortable, despite it being a bit warmer inside since it was a hot day. Would come back!

Yelp
Maybe 3.5 stars is better. Very glad to see a Korean bbq place open in Los Gatos. Service was very friendly and attentive. Restaurant is spacious, clean and modern largely benefited from the last restaurant that was there. I was pleased to see the banchon were quite on point, which is always one of the first things to check. They are spicy pork was very good. What brought the restaurant down to three stars was the jap chae was a little too greasy and lacked flavor. And the meat jun also was a little too eggy and cut of meat was a little tough. Also not a large serving. I think it's great to have a local joint in town now and and hope they get good business

Ethan L.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! There's never been a good Korean restaurant in Los Gatos so I would always have to drive down to Cupertino but I'm so happy this place opened up! The service and food is spot on and the staff is very friendly. I also enjoy the outdoor seating right by the park. The Banchan is amazing and they have a big menu. I recommend the dol-sot bibimbap, chicken wings, and the beef short ribs. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Mik K.

Yelp
The service was very attentive and quick and the food was super delicious!! All the marinades and sauces were very very flavorful. We had galbi, bulgogi, and two different types of dol sot bibimbap. A definite highlight was the dol sot bowls were hot enough to toast the rice nicely. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Jianming L.

Yelp
Don't see other Korean restaurant in Saratoga- Los Gatos area, Danbi filled the gap. This is my first visit, It is right by the parkside, environment is very good. Only one dish is order this time, price is reasonable, taste is ok, don't expect it is a fine food with its price tag. Give 4 star to encourage a new restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
So excited about Danbi in Los Gatos! I use to go to their older location closer to the court house in San Jose. The location is great if you want some excellent Korean food. They give you a good amount of Bon Chon (picked radish, Kim chee and other small bites) the food is delicious as I got the rice cake with cheese thokbokki and my buddy ordered their Meat Jun (If you've been to hawaii IYKYK) thin cuts of beef coated in egg and fried with a dipping sauces (bomb) must try this new Korean spot in Los Gatos. We also shared a Tofu shop Excellent family run business highly recommended

Yelp
Great food, friendly service, clean and inviting ambience. Need I say more?? Oh perhaps just one more...If you haven't gone yet, please GO and check it out.

Shana L.

Yelp
Fantastic new spot in Los Gatos! The bibimbap was excellent! Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Loved that all the fermented sides (banchan) are made in-house, super tasty and authentic. Great selection of Korean beers, warm and friendly service, and a lovely patio right next to the park. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Tasha S.

Yelp
Such a welcome addition to the neighborhood! We found parking right away, the restaurant is bright and spacious. The food was delicious and the service was great - everyone was so friendly and helpful. I found the spice level very appropriate for Korean food and we loved everything but especially the stew. All the banchan were tasty and plentiful. Can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
We went with another couple and tried the new south SJ location. Ordered our favorites to have family style, and everything was soooo good! Ended up going the next week to the new Los Gatos location with family of 5 and again, it did not disappoint! Delicious!
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Very cute new restaurant with a great location by the town plaza. The Dol Sot is excellent. I'm also a fan of their vegetable pancake. I have eaten there twice now and look forward to going back.
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
New still but the food is pretty good. Service is nice and friendly and this restaurant has lots of seating. Parking is a bit of a pain but that isn't the restaurant's fault. I enjoyed my yookgarjang.
google avatar

Serafina A.

Yelp
Food was really good! We ordered a multitude of entrees and just shared with the table. The owner who took our order is super sweet and friendly and was very accommodating and helpful to us. The short ribs were delicious and the fish cakes with cheese were also amazing. The ambience of this place is definitely casual nestled into the downtown area of Los Gatos. Will definitely be returning here!
google avatar

Lewis C.

Yelp
Four of us had dinner to go from Danbi on a recent Friday night. Since it was our first time, we tried a wide array of dishes, including Mandu (dumplings), Japchae, both types of Korean Fried Chicken (plain and soy glazed), Bulgogi fried rice, Beef short ribs, and Danbi Stir Fry vegetables (special order). The Beef short ribs were particularly good - lots of nice flavor and the meat was tender. People also really liked the Bulgogi fried rice. Of the two KFCs, I preferred the one that was soy glazed. Overall, the food was well prepared and tasty. We look forward returning and eating at the restaurant next time. I'm sure the food experience will be even better.
google avatar

Jiyoung O.

Yelp
So excited to try this first Korean restaurant in town of Los Gatos! We had Kbbq, kimchi stone pot rice, beef bone soup, and spicy tofu soups. The Korean BBQ is always good in any K restaurant, but generally it is not my taste because it's too sweet for me. However all my friends loved it. Beef bone soup is mild traditional Korean soul food. The soup was not really seasoned. If you are not a Korean you probably don't know what it supposed to taste like. So they should have some seasoning for non Korean customers. My friend think it was too blend. Not much flavorful. The tofu soups were all pretty good. If you are not good with spicy food you should order it as mild version. The stone pot kimchi bibimbob was a lot of portion. Love the way they serve as very hot. They refilled the side dishes. Overall it's ok.
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
Very fresh food. Authentic Korean food with nice tastes and good service. Went for early dinner and the staff was super nice. Place has a low key vibe. Food came quickly was of good quality. Love the diversity for Losgatos.
google avatar

Siyeon J.

Yelp
The Korean food was very authentic and it tastes just as good as what you can eat in Korea. The army stew the was definitely the standout item I had. I will surely come again soon.

Yo M.

Yelp
We have gone here for years. We ate tonight paid $120 and it was terrible. New owner . The seafood pancake was especially bad. Think mushy and tasteless. Shame . Avoid
google avatar

Monique P.

Yelp
So glad there is finally a Korean place in Downtown Los Gatos! Not only that, but the dishes are super authentic. Every dish we had was fantastic and some of the best Korean we have ever had (that's saying a lot since we just came back from a trip to Korea). The service was wonderful even at soft open. They were super kind to us and our son. It will definitely be one of our local neighborhood favorites going forward!

Yelp
Just opened 3 weeks ago. We love Korean food and were excited to have a Korean restaurant in Los Gatos. The decor is simple and the dining area is filled with natural sunlight facing the park. They have an extensive menu with all the traditional favorites and more. The food was delicious and freshly made to order. Nice variety of traditional pickled vegetables to go along with your food. The dishes are easy to share if you go with a group. The food was mild, and came with a squeeze bottle of sauce if you want it spicy. They have outdoor seating, which is perfect for spring and summer dining. It would be fun to pick up some food to go during the Jazz on the Plazz series. Very friendly staff and quick service. All in all a fun place to eat and a welcome addition to Los Gatos.

Ann R.

Yelp
Very good meal over the weekend with my grandson who just returned from South Korea. He rated it "great, and very authentic ". As grandparents who have not eaten Korean before, we were both very pleased with the food, the friendliness of staff, and the beautiful and simple ambiance. A heads up...the servings are large so bring shared appetites and try several dishes.

Yelp
Korean food... in Downtown Los Gatos?!? YES! FINALLY! And it's really really good! Having recently moved into the old Montebello cafe's place, this authentic Korean restaurant has hit the ground running. Spacious, clean and bright, it's a family-friendly place that can accommodate parties large and small. Wide selection of noodles, pancakes, soups and BBQ will please virtually every lover of Korean cuisine. We had the japchae (glass noodle beef), kimchi jeon (fried kimchi pancake), BBQ galbi (marinated short rib) and sunbudu jjigae (kimchi, pork and silken tofu soup) served bubbling in an iron bowl. All served with a good variety of banchan (appetizers). Everything was amazingly delicious and served quickly with a smile! Fantastic service. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yvonne K.

Yelp
One of the best authentic Korean restaurants in the Bay Area. Everything is so good. They e been open two weeks and we have been there 4 times. My son and his friends have been there so many times I've lost count. If you love like or haven't ever had Korean food this should be your place. The ramen is excellent. So so good.
google avatar

Suejin K.

Yelp
I was excited to see that a Korean restaurant open in Los Gatos! The food was excellent and authentic. The service was friendly and approachable. The restaurant was nice and clean. If you haven't tried Korean food before, people generally like Bulgogi and one of the savory pancakes. There are hot stone pots are fun too with Gochujang.
google avatar

Soheil M.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere, service, and food. We will definitely come back. We have been to other Korean restaurants and Danbi is definitely at the top of our list.

halen y.

Yelp
I would give 10 stars if I could. Extremely kind staff who were quick yet not pushy with customers. The inside of the restaurant is so nice and open, as well as clean. The outside seats had a great view of the park and were also very clean. My boyfriend ordered a spicy ramen but they had no problem making it without spice for him. All food had lots of flavor and came out hot and fresh. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants fresh and flavourful korean food!
google avatar

Carol A.

Yelp
OMG! This is seriously good food! Went for lunch and had their spicy calamari which was amazing their kimchi is excellent, the service was stellar they took there time to explain the dishes

le n.

Yelp
It was good but not great. Good: decor was above standard for Korean restaurant. Service also fantastic. Most of the food tasted authentic (kalbi, for example was seasoned well). Not good: portions were small, including the side dishes. The yookkejang was mostly soup and hardly had any actual food inside. It was fine. Expensive for the amount of food. Would not go again on my own accord. Edit: I am well aware banchan should be refilled. However, we were a large group and our banchan was never refilled. Nobody even came to our table to ask. That's great that you have a policy, but if it isn't put in practice, what's the use? Also, I have been to many Korean restaurants and jjigaes in fact do have lots of food inside the soup. If this is what passes as a lot of food, then I guess I'll go elsewhere.

Bing Y.

Yelp
Please avoid this place.. this restaurant is nowhere near any Korean restaurant in Santa Clara. I guess they opened here for a reason. I ordered dwen jang jjigae, and got three pieces of tofu, four pieces of zucchini, 6 pieces of rice cake and some tiny beef trimmings in it. They sell it for $25.95.. it's just ridiculous. The picture is pretty much what I started with.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Food & service here are outstanding! Authentic Korean fare & owner operated. She came to visit our table & you could see she took pride in her food & appreciated our business.. We had the beef hot pot with crispy rice, bulgogi ribs & kimchee pancakes. Absolutely delicious!

Johnny B.

Yelp
Went yesterday for the first of what will be many visits. Extensive menu, outdoor seating, and friendly and able service were big attractions. Stone pot with beef was delicious and kimchi side was spicy without being over powering. Could view town park while eating which was a plus.

Linda E.

Yelp
Food was all delicious, service was good. It looks to be a go to place, I know it will be for us locals. It was almost to capacity for a Wednesday night by 7pm. Nice clean and bright setting and even though it was an open dining room we weren't drowning in noise from other tables.

Pat B.

Yelp
We just finished a fabulous Bi Bim Bap meal, one tofu and one beef. All of small accompanying dishes were such delicious additions. The inside is airy and lovely and service friendly and so helpful. We are anxious to return with friends and sample more dishes.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Today my husband and I had lunch at Danbi restaurant in Los Gatos, as we had seen a positive review on Next-door, and thought we'd try Korean food for our meal. The restaurant has a clean and airy atmosphere and Janet and Sunny were extremely helpful in assisting us as to what the various dishes were. They checked on us often and we ended up having a great meal at a good price with some very friendly people. We learned that they have two other locations other than this one: downtown San Jose and Blossom Valley. We'll check those out when we are in those areas. We will definitely return and feel as though we made new friends. Andrea S.

Mari B.

Yelp
Good is great! We need a yummy Korean spot in the neighborhood. Korean seafood pancakes and short ribs are delicious. I like the glass noodles and radish kimchi is best!!!

David J.

Yelp
Very good food. Excellent service. Enjoyed eating outside. It was a surprise to find a Korean restaurant in Los Gatos. Glad to see it.

Joe N.

Yelp
The kalbi and spicy chicken wings were awesome. The service was great and the owner was very welcoming.
