On the Grid : Dancing Goats Coffee

"Great spot for getting that daily cup of joe and even better for taking a second to drink it on their screened-in patio. Serving Batdorf & Bronson Coffee, it's crystal clear that Dancing Goats not only cares about the coffee you're getting but also the experience with which you sip it." - Steven Johnson Studio

9 Best Coffee Shops in Atlanta

"Located a few steps from the Atlanta Beltline, Dancing Goats Coffee Bar feels like the "Cheers" of coffee shops. It was the first business to open at Ponce City Market while the historic building underwent a herculean transformation, and it has since become a favorite hangout for the residents of Old Fourth Ward and Poncey-Highland. Owned by local roaster Batdorf & Bronson, the joint offers all the usual suspects—macchiatos, cappuccinos, lattes, pour overs, cold brew—plus out-of-the-box seasonal creations like, recently, a turmeric-ginger cappuccino." - Jennifer Bradley Franklin

Absolutely captivated by Dancing Goats. From the moment I walked in, I was charmed. The atmosphere is truly excellent – a perfect blend of cozy and vibrant, making it an ideal spot to relax or get some work done. The attention from the staff was outstanding; they were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to enjoy making my visit a great one. And the prices? Surprisingly good for the quality you receive! But let's talk about the coffee. Wow. Seriously, this is one of the best coffees I have ever tasted. Rich, nuanced, and perfectly brewed – every sip was a delight. Dancing Goats has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite coffee shops. Highly, highly recommend!

Google
Enjoyed our time at Dancing Goats! A clean location with super friendly staff! Absolutely loved everything here. We got Traditional Macchiato, Chai Latte and an almond croissant! Yummm!!! Really love the croissant 🥐 do give it a try! Coming back here now :)

Google
AMAZING. Helped me perfect my drink whilst in town for a training. When traveling, going to a "different than usual" coffee place is definitely an adventure~ some places just can't do it. And then you have Dancing Goats-Decatur. Kind & competent staff. WONDERFUL atmosphere (I cannot tell you how perfect the sound in there was on Friday & Saturday) SO GOOD I returned Friday PM and Saturday AM!!!!

I'm always on the hunt for a cozy Cafe that's close to home to go do some work. The Dancing Goats in Decatur is definitely ideal to meet up with friends or just go by yourself. I like that it's near some good restaurants such as Chai Pani and Farm Burger. If you don't like those restaurants, the cafe is only 3 blocks from the " heart of Decatur " where you will find more restaurants and other stores. Atmosphere: The cafe is much bigger than it seems from the outside. There's different types of sitting from communal tables to comfy single armchairs to high top tables by the windows. There's a comfortable and lively vibe. You will see students and professionals there. Just be for warned that it's not the quietest place to study or work so bring a headphone. You will hear music and a lot of conversations going on. Service: I have never had bad service in there. All the barristas are friendly, nice, and patient, especially Jade! She makes delicious drinks and gives the best customer service. She's very patient when you ask her questions about the drinks. Kudos Jade. Food: I really can't talk much about the food because I only had a bagel. It's just a typical bagel. Nothing fancy. So if you are looking for a comfortable and friendly place to go do some work, hang out, and drink some good coffee, stop by there.

Google
The Dancing Goats Coffee Bar is alright. The environment there is nice, but the actual quality isn’t much to write home about. The latte was okay, not great. The milk foam was kind of sloppy, and the flavor wasn’t amazing. Plus, the food options aren’t spectacular either. You have to heat up the breakfast sandwich yourself. Overall, there are better lattes, from better coffee shops, with better food elsewhere. That being said, it isn’t like Dancing Goat is bad. It just isn’t something to go out of your way for.

Google
Fun coffee shop with great service. My family got tea, and all the varieties were good, but all for extra chai in the latte. Staff does an extraordinary job of making everything to your liking and modified the sweetness of my tea until it is just right.

A friend and I visited the Dancing Goat for a quick after-lunch snack. When we entered, I noticed the place was much bigger than I expected.  There were a few tables outside, but there were places for indoor seating everywhere. I walked up to the counter and asked the staff member what this specific pastry was behind the glass and the answer was “A DONUT”.   The response was not very warm or descriptive. In fact, I felt it was a little sarcastic.  I ended up ordering the Cherry Scone, which was a little dry and not very sweet.  This place has a cool layout, nice for grabbing some coffee and maybe working remotely.   I will return to try some of their other desserts and coffee choices.

Google
Grabbed a cappuccino and chocolate croissant at Dancing Goats in Decatur. They got my cappuccino right. But they served my croissant on paper! The cappuccino was nice. However, the croissant was a rubber mess!! Will not return. 50% is no passing grade.

Yelp
Scratch that, I'm not sure if I want to come by again for their coffee on my own volition. I got their peppermint mocha, one of their holiday drinks. The staff was nice and friendly when taking orders and making drinks. They ask if you want whipped cream with it, but it tasted like a regular coffee, no hints of peppermint or chocolate. It was warm and had a cute dollop of whipped cream, which was nice. The only way I could drink it was I added a few peppermint mint candies to it for that minty flavor, and it tasted way better.

Yelp
3.7/5 Food: Came on a Friday afternoon to try them out since I was in the area and have seen multiple locations. I ordered the 16oz iced white chocolate matcha latte with almond milk and a slice of banana bread. The matcha was very disappointing, it lacked the white chocolate flavor even after asking for it to be "extra sweet". I also could not tell if they actually used almond milk, as it kind of had a thick consistency like it was made of oatmilk or whole milk. For $17 (plus tip) I truly expected more. However, the banana bread was phenomenal, i could go back for that alone! Service: I was greeted upon walking to the register. I was very indecisive at first and the cashier and other worker were extremely helpful in answering any questions I had. While also making some suggestions, which I appreciated because the banana bread was a hit. Ambiance: Very nice sized coffee shop with decent amount of seating inside and out. So there's plenty of places to sit and work on your laptop or enjoy a drink with friends. Overall: I am unsure if I will be back. But if I do it will definitely be for the banana bread and maybe a different drink.

Yelp
I used to love this place. It has comfy chairs, good coffee, good wifi, and plenty of outlets. They just started charging for parking. The first 2 hours are free, but it's rare that I'd want to go to a coffee shop for less than 2 hours.

Yelp
We came here to spend some time to have a nice cup of coffee with a beautiful view. The atmosphere is very laid-back and relaxed. The person behind the counter was very helpful and gave me some pointers of some different places to visit in the Decatur area since I'm new here, as for the coffee, it is traditionally made fresh coffee. I got a mocha with oat milk and it came with a frothy heart on top. The prices are reasonable. Overall very nice vibe with great views and a lovely coffee to sip on on a nice fall day with traditional holiday music playing.

Yelp
Dashed in to work while I waited to go to an appointment in the area. The coffee shop is located in downtown Decatur but, thankfully has a parking lot best to the shop with ample spaces. The shop is a nice size with different seating options ranging from co-working tables and sofa areas. Though a nice size, it does get pretty busy which makes the place fill up fast. I grabbed a holiday speciality, the Brown Sugar Rosemary Latte. After a short wait and snagging a seat, I was able to enjoy my drink. The drink was delicious and I ended up spending about an hour and a half at the cafe.

Yelp
I was really excited to try dancing goats because I had heard good things about it from several people. We went around the afternoon and there were quite a few people in line. After waiting in line, I approach the register and the cashier asks if I cut in line. I was standing with a friend the entire time and didn't cut anyone off so I was very confused. He was very rude. I ordered an iced strawberry matcha and the really nice woman who gave my drink told me that they had run out of strawberry syrup but that there was some still in my matcha. My matcha tasted really good just wish there was some more strawberry in there. The shop itself wasn't very cute and kind of felt like a knock off barnes and noble coffee shop, but I did enjoy my drink. Maybe next time I'll go to a different location.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. Not a lot of seating for a family, more community seating and random areas facing the parking lot. You have to microwave your own pastries and my husband got an extra hot latte but still had to microwave it, it was not even warm. The special brown sugar rosemary latte was tasty. My only big concern was the person taking our order had dog or cat hair all over her sweatshirt and she was getting our pastries. She was very friendly but baristas seemed annoyed.

Yelp
Popped in and was greeted with a warm welcome. I must say, the service is exceptional! There's many options to choose from, however I was slightly disappointed that they did not have any matcha. Therefore, I substituted matcha for Hojicha sparkling lemonade. It wasn't bad, just not my preference, but I was open to trying something new. Also, ordered the quioa, kale, broccoli bowl which was delicious! Another bonus, is the parking lot, and the ambiance of this location. If you're in the area, give it a try!

Yelp
Superb service and even tastier Coffee! I wish i could remember the kind person that took our order, so kind! Our order ranged from a White chocolate mocha(extra shot), Peppermint mocha, the featured special drink(iced) and a Hot chocolate. We will return!

Yelp
Huge cafe, clean bathrooms, nice workers, and lots of work space with a medium to loud setting. The drink I got was their matcha mint strawberry latte which was new in their menu. I got a 12oz. for $7.18 so you could say this place is expensive. The taste was good though but $7.18 for a small drink is crazy. Otherwise, I only plan to come here if I'm trying to impress somebody with adventurous taste buds.

Yelp
Went there this morning with my husband and daughter. the staff was friendly and attentive and service was fast. We got a latte which my husband enjoyed, a mocha that I liked, and then we got a bagel, scone, and a mini doughnut. The food was good but it is like a do it yourself with warming up and cutting up your own bagel and things. Plenty of seating inside and very spacious and open. The parking lot is also big so plenty of space there as well.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee places in the A. Consistently delicious. Not too sweet. In the summers I go for the chilly goat. Most mornings it's a simple mocha.

Yelp
I wanted to like this cute little coffee shop. The atmosphere is nice and welcoming but the person taking the order on this day was irritated and ignored me. They finally came to take my order and I said yellow while they just stared at me with a straight face. I asked a few questions and it pained them to provide the most vague answer possible. The latte was okay, not very hot and not very tasty. They have limited eats. I will not return would not recommend for anyone who really enjoys a good coffee or latte. They have croissants but no way to warm them. Just cold hard croissants. No thanks.

Caroline P.

Yelp
The best coffee, an amazing place to study or hang out with friends, and solid pastries as well. Everyone who works there is so nice too.

Yelp
This was my first experience with Dancing Goats. I've walked past the Midtown location several times but never stopped in. The staff was friendly and cordial. The premise was clean and had interesting decor and seating placement. My beverage was a vanilla latte, and it was delicious! There was quite a number of patrons on my visit due to the exceptionally cold temperatures so I had to initially sit at the coffee bar until a table became available. There was a steady stream of customers in and out but few tables or individual sitting spots becoming available. Dancing Goats seems to be quite popular and maybe I've just experienced why. I'll soon try the Midtown location and compare notes. As of now, I think Dancing Goats is a top notch spot for a great experience and a great latte!

Yelp
My oatmeal latte was very good, first time here trying this coffee I must say love this spot clean customer service was very good and you feel so at peace sitting enjoying your coffee.

Yelp
Good coffee and blueberry muffins in a relaxed atmosphere. The service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
Consistently delicious coffee, bagels, quiche and Pastries. I've been going here for over a decade when I am in the area and I've never had a bite or sip I didn't enjoy. Plenty of space to either sit and read or work for a bit. The only down side is parking. It can suck, but if you know this, then you know to expect nothing. With this mindset, you'll always find a parking spot immediately lol. The staff is helpful and accommodating and the drinks come out quickly. I'm partial to the Decatur location due to nostalgia from my Emory days, but the other locations are just as good and consistent.

Yelp
I took a bit of a walk here as I have never been to this specific location of Dancing Goats. I've been to the one in midtown a few times, but I never frequented it, and I remember why. The coffee is okay and quite expensive as I paid $9+ for my large Toasted Coconut Hojicha Iced Latte. I did really like the Spring specials they had, and I ordered that specific item off that menu. The service was fast as it came out quickly after I ordered as well. The latte itself had bits of coconut at the top, which I thought was a nice touch. I have had Hojicha lattes before, so I knew what I was looking for. Personally, I did not taste any coconut besides the coconut bits, and I thought the taste seemed a bit bland. The shop itself is quite big, so it would definitely be a good place to stop to get some reading or studying done, since you'll probably find an open seat or two. Also, I've wanted to visit this location before since it had been featured in the Love, Simon movie which I saw in theaters in 2018. :)

Yelp
Very spacious cafe with free WiFi to work remotely. Friendly staff. I ordered a small iced coffee with oat milk and sugar free hazelnut. $2.95 they also have almond and soy options. The coffee was tasty and rich in flavor. The sugar free hazelnut isn't that strong didn't really taste it I did find the bake goods expensive they price the minidonuts individually 1.50 each and it's not that memorable can get a similar tasting mini donut from the grocery store.

Yelp
I have now been to this Dancing Goats twice and ordered the same thing and it was delicious both times!! Consistency is a huge thing for me and this place hits the mark. We walked here while waiting on a table for brunch and it did not disappoint. We were attended to quickly and all of our coffees came out great! I had the maple latte and it was delicious and the design is even cuter! The other people I went with also had some hot chocolate and an oat lattes and there were positive reviews all around. It is a little pricey, but to be honest I do think it's worth it given the quality and consistency. Cashiers were super nice and so were the baristas. The inside of the shop is very roomy and surprisingly on a Saturday morning there was tons of room. Great place to study or meet up with friends!
google avatar

Yelp
I try to frequent local and artisan shops and stores as often as possible. We headed to DG for a 20oz tea and a 20oz latte with whip cream. The prices are pretty comparable to a Starbucks or caribou. The large tea size came with two bags. I asked for a bit of space for honey but they didn't leave too much. I just poured a bit off to mix as desired. My date liked his mocha latte and mixed in a bit of sugar. He likes it, but said it's not better than Caribou-- so it's between Starbucks and caribou on the taste chart.

Natalya P.

Yelp
I wanted to add after a few more visits- Their almond milk is awesome! So creamy and perfect, my go-to! Once I ordered salted caramel syrup/sauce and could barely taste it. Yesterday I ordered the salted caramel flavor and it was very overpowering. Today I ordered an oatmilk latte. I definitely prefer the almond milk. Oatmilk can be hit or miss for me. But it was still tasty and the staff yesterday and today were very kind. Nice and clean inside.

Yelp
What a nice place and a great area. They have outdoor seating and a covered area. There's plenty of places to park in a private lot or on the street, only if it's not super busy though. Tons of restaurants nearby as well. I have great coffee, it does take a little longer than normal to come out but it's really good. It's always packed and sign fairly a nice place to sit. when I went they didn't have a ton of food options left which is pretty disappointing. Overall really good customer service, pretty good drinks. Great location. If you get a great place to sit inside it's even better. But outdoor seating in the spring summer and fall is nice too. Good prices. I've definitely been here twice and I'll be back again!

Paco R.

Yelp
Problematic WiFi in my experience, which is pretty much a crime for a coffee house. I truly wonder why this place is anything but spotless. Furnishings are dusty and stained, crumbs are everywhere. The business has been open barely 2hrs. And the trash receptacles are full, yet there are only a dozen or so patrons.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
I came here for coffee with my former coworker --SUCH a treat. Come early to have parking in the lot, and there's ample seating inside. The butter croissant was HUGE and I got to warm it up. That was a DELICACY!! It was giving...Paris croissant lol. We both had lattes, but I had a hot vanilla one and she had an iced one. The service is really quick and friendly. I'm going to check out the one by my office next!
google avatar

T.A. B.

Yelp
The coffee was fair. It wasn't bad, but we drove way out of our way to try it because you'd think a place with such a unique name would have uniquely wonderful coffee. We also ordered hot chocolate but what we got was hot milk, there was no discernible taste of chocolate. So we opened to cup, raked off the foam and sure enough, no chocolate. But we were already two blocks away, so our loss. Bathrooms were dark and needed cleaning. We bought a hat and had sticker shock when it rang up $32. Saw no goats and there wasn't anything to dance about.
google avatar

Yelp
Dancing goats has great coffee, there's no doubt about that. They have a very diverse menu with lots of options and lots of add-ons to make your coffee just the way you like it. The only hesitation I have with their menu is when it comes to food. When you order food they make you heat it up on your own in a microwave that's in the back of the restaurant and even cut your own bagels and toast them if you want one of those. I feel like if you were going to serve food, you should serve it to the customers instead of making them do part of the work, like a hotel breakfast buffet. Overall, the space is fairy bright, and always full of business. It's a great place to walk to and has a lot of seating options to work or chat with a friend.

Larry W.

Yelp
This is a nice space to meet and talk or just hang out and read or websurf. The coffee is pretty good. The food items are generally not great and are over-priced. My biggest complaint is with the WiFi. The provider they're using now collects your email, then requires you to download some nebulous file just to get connected. This seems highly intrusive and insecure. I wasted too much time dealing with the WiFi setup, and I finally gave up.

Sarah K.

Yelp
Service is amazing I wish the syrup choices were a little more visible. Makes for a less panicked ordering experience for people who aren't here all the time and don't know their order by heart. :)

Yelp
One of my favorite places to study. Of the Dancing Goats Coffee locations, I find the Decatur location to be most convenient in terms of parking. Although weekends are sometimes more busy, understandably so. Literally have camped out here for hours during the day to study for school. It has the quintessential coffee shop vibe and ambiance that drives productivity. The people are always nice. There are numerous outlets and free Wifi. My go-to is an iced caramel latte ( never disappoints) , and I usually end up getting a bagel (I'm here for hours at a time so I end up getting hungry). The only complaint I have is that I wish their hours were longer.
google avatar

Yelp
Dancing Goats is a coffee shop chain that can be found in various parts of the metro Atlanta area. I've had mostly good experiences at each place and I'm most familiar with the Decatur location. They have the basic coffee, espresso, and tea selections you can find at most coffee shops. I love that they have seasonal drinks such as purple rain, matcha lemonade, etc. I check in throughout the year to see what new creations they have every few months! :) Sometimes this place can be a bit understaffed so the sitting areas can be dirty or napkins, straws, and etc need to be refilled. The staff are happy to address these concerns once you bring them up though. Give Dancing Goats a try if you pass by a shop!

Yelp
I had the Iced Toasted Coconut Hojicha Latte and it was divine. I live two hours away and think about driving down just to get another more often than I would like to admit.

Yelp
What's NOT to love about this coffee shop?! 1) ample parking all around the building on the sides and back plus a entrance from the back so you don't have to walk around. 2) cover patio with ample seating in the front. Great place to catch up with friends and make new ones 3) tons of space for seating inside and to plug in and work. 4) great food and beverage menu with lots of tasty treats 5) really cute dry goods for sale 6) AMAZING COFFEE!!!!

Yelp
Wife and I are in town for family holidays. We stopped to have breakfast at this place, and both of us were very disappointed. The wife had a breakfast sandwich, which needed to be microwaved by her in a very small microwave, and I ordered a bagel w cream cheese. The bagel was plain (no choice), cold and supermarket package type. I had to toast it. Two coffees were bitter. I will give one star for the ambiance/space.
google avatar

Alka K.

Yelp
This is a cute spot to grab some coffee and hang out at. The outdoor patio is screened in and has lots of seating as well as some seating outside of the screened area. Located right by Ponce City Market. The inside is set up for one way entrance and exit with distancing stickers on the floor and all employees were masked. I got a caramel chilly goat latte with oat milk and it was delicious. The barista was very sweet and wanted to let me know there was some lactose in the other parts of the drink before I let her know I'm not lactose intolerant! Definitely would go back.
google avatar

Tony K.

Yelp
Been living while in town in Old 4th Ward and while on foot checking out Ponce Market I came across this hip coffee house with a great outdoor covered patio. The vibe and crowd was the neighborhood. Old, young, kids, dogs and hipsters galore. Loved the mix. The coffee is terrific. You can tell the beans are high quality and locally roasted. So rich and flavorful. I could make out their beans from anyones. Unique taste. There are a wide variety of pastry and breakfast offerings as well as great friendly staff that are eager to please. Check out Dancing Goat and feel the vibe and energy that make the Old 4th Ward so awesome.

Yelp
I love this place! It is the only place I can get a frozen drink that is decaf and without sugar added. It's my favorite! The ambiance is nice. Seating both inside and outside. I love sitting outside and watching the people go by.

Yelp
First time here today. I live out of town, but my employer is headquartered in Decatur, so I will be visiting frequently in tue future. I consider myself a coffee snob...I roast my own at home, but working as a field service tech, my choice is often lousy coffee or no coffee. All this being said, today I had a 20oz Americano, and I have to say it was one of the best tastings cups I have ever had. Super smooth, full-bodied, and I seriously regret adding any sweetener because it did not need it. I look forward to many return trips in the future.
google avatar

Valigirl V.

Yelp
Looking for a local coffee house that has really fresh (self roasted) coffees. Nice place to grab a coffee or small bite, but just don't care for their coffee. Ordered a cup while in the store..meh at best. Also bought three other bags to try at home. Coffee was medium to medium light roast and all gave me a stomach ache. Must have to do with the roasting levels? Will continue to order on line from Peets coffee. Delicious and no stomach upsets. Sorry Dancing Goats, not for me.
google avatar

Leigh W.

Yelp
A Decatur staple for coffee aficionados. Very over priced and baristas are not as sweet as the coffee served but that's to be expected in town. Plenty of areas to set up for working or studying and ample parking.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Drity chia tasty pretty watery for $7. Definitely not worth it in my opinion. I'll find other coffee shops

Yelp
Parking - there's a private lot. Experience - My friends and I came on a Sunday afternoon and there are many students who were doing work here as well as folks who are just enjoying their Sunday afternoon. It was a bit difficult to find seating, but we were able to eventually find seats at the high tables by the windows. I like the atmosphere in here and the staff were friendly. Drink - I got a small Chai latte and it was a bit too sweet for me. Also, don't forget to put away your cup when you're done!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. The chai is hands down the best drink here and the biscotti is amazing. The croissants are also delicious. The snowman mocha, ginger and turmeric chai and purple rain drink are good too.
google avatar

Kimia J.

Yelp
I am obsessed with this place and esp this location. The drinks are 10/10. My favorites are the gingerbread latte, chocolate orange mocha, and matcha latte + espresso. The inside is so pretty too with lots of seating and parking. I get so much work done here!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my first time trying out this dancing goats coffee location. I went Saturday evening. The wait wasn't long to order drinks. Customer service was excellent from all of the staff. There's plenty of seating available however I'm sure this might vary if it's peek hours. I ordered a cappuccino. It was good. The menu also includes pastry to enjoy with your coffee. They have delicious chai latte too. This a great place to meet people for business. Great atmosphere for small groups. It's family friendly which is great. They sell merchandise with the dancing goat logo and they are cute. They also have coffee pressers that they sale. Parking is kind of limited close by but there's more parking within walking distance. I will definitely return soon.

Yelp
I love Dancing Goats. It's a great place to work, especially when you have pressing deadlines. The coffee is good. The snacks are amazing. And I promise the peer pressure of people around you being productive will force you to be productive.

Yelp
My review is on the customer service this morning 3/25/21 not on the coffee. I had accidentally routed to this location not realizing that there was more than one location. When I couldn't find my friends I went to the front counter to ask the baristas for help. The two baristas blatantly ignored me. I kept saying "excuse me... excuse me..." and literally I was like I was invisible or something. I knew that something was up with those two when the other barista who was further away answered me. Clearly it wasn't because they couldn't hear me. I will not be coming to this location again. That being said the other location was amazing. Staff was great and they had a cute outdoor area. I recommend that location over this one hands down.
