"Izumo soba is a local cuisine of Shimane. The family moved to this location from Shimane and opened this restaurant to introduce the taste of their hometown. Nana Nitta, who took over the restaurant from the father, mills the unpolished buckwheat. This is what gives Izumo soba its blackish colour. The thin juwari soba is served with broth poured over it. Another cultural tradition of Izumo is the three-tiered vermilion-lacquered serving dish called a ‘warigo’." - Michelin Inspector

The best ever Soba restaurant where I went to ! :D Everything is homemade, from the soba to the tempura and fried vegetables. You can either order a cold soba with tempura+vegetables or hot soba with tempura+vegetables. Their drinks menu is really good, they have a lot of choice. Nana-san and her mom hold this restaurant and you can feel their love for cooking in your plate. The place is located 5min from Nara Shinkansen station in a quiet neighbourhood and has a zen kind of ambiance. What's more, Nana-san speaks English and a bit of French ! Just go there guys if you want to eat homemade soba and tempura !

We found this on Google and walked 10 minutes from our hotel near the Nara train station. They grind their own flour and make the soba noodles fresh daily, it's well worth the wait. The menu was in Japanese but a local who spoke English helped us decide what to order (they are printing an English menu). The man who helped us described this restaurant as his pride. We went with a warm Duck soba, it was amazing. At home, in Calgary, we eat Pho regularly but this place is superior in every way. The decor is relaxing, seating comfortable, with a quiet atmosphere and friendly staff. We've felt as though eating here was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as we don't know when we'll be back in Japan or Nara. We are very lucky to have had this experience.

Walked here from Nara Park, was a long walk but totally worth it. The owner and daughter are so humble and excited for their guest. The noodles are traditionally handmade served both hot or cold and the tempura veggies/shrimp are delicious!! We were served hot tea that we drank through pretty fast cause of the amazing taste. Would recommend and I definitely plan to come back whenever I'm in the Nara area.

I cannot overstate what a nice experience this has been! We were so lucky to be received there! This place is just passion. I read the low rated reviews because I wanted to understand what problems one can have with this place. Either the people misunderstand the concept of the place or the owners are doing an outstanding job at always evolving. We had hot soba tempura soup as a main dish, but all the little things around it were as magical as the soup and house made noodles. We are food enthusiasts and the 2 month miso infused tofu, the ice cream desert and even the simplicity of roasted buckwheat tea were so delightful and inspiring! In a small and elegantly run kitchen a bit of waiting is normal and also necessary. We felt very well taken care of and we have to say, the hosts are such sweet people!! Thank you so much and when we are back in Japan we would come to Nara even if it is just for this restaurant!

Quaint little restaurant near Nara station. Do not be fooled by the all-japanese menu as the staff are more than able to communicate in english. Great service coupled with delicious soba noodles. I recommend the hot soba noodles if u are craving for some soup in the cold weather.

This is the best soba noodles ever…. Everything was delicious and fresh. We had a set menu of 5-6 dishes from vegetarian, to sashimi, to teriyaki chicken and of course Soba noodles with tempura (made with buckwheat). Then came the desert and buckwheat tea, also exquisite. Everything was gluten free!!!! The host and the chef were so warm and friendly, and made the whole experience amazing.

I’ve tried many ***/**/* + gastro-restaurants around the world… believe me, many!! This restaurant owned by Chef Nana, its a little even on heart. It deserve a visits from a Michelin or 50best inspector… as very few times these days the summons of ingredients where so perfectly blended in such super humble relaxing atmosphere. Its a must go to. A Very rare find!! Bravissima Chef Nana.
