Today was my son’s school holiday, so we decided to visit Dandenong Market since it’s not far from where we live. Compared to another market we love, South Melbourne Market—which feels more like a tourist spot and is always packed with foreign visitors—Dandenong Market seems more like a place for serious shopping.
The market is divided into three main sections. The first section sells processed foods like cheese and sausages, as well as specialty stores for flour, various kinds of beans, and an impressive selection of spices. The second section offers fresh produce, including meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and even flowers. The third section is dedicated to ready-to-eat food stalls from all around the world, with a strong focus on Asian cuisine, including Korean, Indian, and Middle Eastern food.
Most of the people here are locals, and the atmosphere feels very authentic and multicultural. I was particularly interested in the spices, beans, and flour, and I’d love to come back on my own to explore everything in more detail. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine market experience!
