Where to Eat in Footscray, Melbourne’s Most Exciting Food Neighborhood | Eater

"A wholesaler-retailer with tanks full of live lobsters, mud crabs, yabbies, oysters, pippies, scallops, sea urchin and other seasonal seafood; fishmongers will retrieve, kill and clean purchases on the spot, and keeping bivalves alive to shuck at home saves money." - Jess Ho

This afternoon their staff highly recommended one of their mud crab, and I spent $153.62 on mud crab for my wife’s birthday nite.however,I came home and started preparing.realized I spent all the money into the sea water as there is no meat inside the crab.the mud crab just full of water.and you explain why and what’s your after service? You just ruined my nite!!!!! Still cooked it.see the size of crab shell and the poor crab meat.why would you sell something like this with dear price?

This was an extremely disappointing shopping experience! Despite the upscale appearance of the seafood store and its premium pricing, the product quality was abysmal. I purchased a mud crab for $150, which appeared lively at the time of purchase. However, upon returning home and opening it, I discovered the shell contained nothing but water—absolutely nothing edible. Without consuming a single bite, I had to discard it directly into the trash. Essentially, I paid $150 for a bag of waste, in addition to squandering considerable time.

Very disappointing experience at D&K Seafood today. We bought 1kg of mussels and 1kg of abalone, but the service was extremely rude. A middle-aged female staff member kept shouting at us while serving. After scooping the mussels, she did not drain any water and put them straight into a plastic bag. When we politely asked for a clean outer bag, she refused. When we got home and opened the bag, the quality was unacceptable. Most of the mussels had broken shells, and out of 15 intact shells, only 12 actually contained meat. The bag was filled with a large amount of seawater, which clearly made up a significant portion of the weight we paid for. Poor attitude, poor hygiene, and poor product quality. Definitely not the standard you would expect from a seafood shop. I won’t be returning.

First time here. As soon as I walked in, I was impressed with this place. The fish tanks were clean, the variety of oysters were eye catching. And how they hang the salmons in those special fridges was worth a visit. We had a dozen oyster and they were very fresh. The service was a bit hit and miss. Our oyster was sitting at the counter for a while while we were sitting outside. We were not told they were ready. Putting that aside, it is worth a visit.

I had a very bad experience yesterday. I ordered a dozen of oysters and one piece of Abalone because of my wife's birthday. We were waiting for the takeaway and one of the staffs gave a bag without saying a word so I thought it was ready so we left. After I got home, they did not pack abalone so I called. He shouted me and blamed me saying " YOU LEFT BEFORE YOU GET ABALONE, YOU NEED TO COME TO PICK UP" I was super surprised that he shouted right away and I asked him gentaly for a refund but he only said " NO YOU LEFT SO THERE IS NO REFUNDS" All the other stores for takeaway, you would expect that you will receive everthing in a bag when you are handed in, he did not say any words when he gave it to me. so I think it is common for me to leave when you receive a takeaway. We rented a car because it was my wife's brithday, we live 1 hour drive away from the store, so no way to go back. We ocasionally go there to get a fresh seafood, we liked it here. But how they treated a customer was dissappoiting. We were simply sad and we just wanted to have a good day with having seafood which my wife loves. We will never go back here. If you have other options to get Seafood, I would highly reccommend that you should go other seafood stores.

We were impressed with the variety of oysters available. All freshly shucked to order. We were greeted by a friendly lady and she explained how things worked in the shop and suggested the type of oysters to order based on our preferences. We had a mixed dozen of oysters and half a dozen of cooked oysters. They were all very tasty. Highly recommend this place!

This used to be our go-to local seafood store. We often came here for fresh oysters, abalone, and sea snails — always happy to support a local business. But after my mom’s recent experience, we’ll never be returning. She went there after work and politely asked the older lady (who seemed to be the owner) about the price of dried scallop. Since she had just finished her shift, she was still wearing her factory uniform — nothing unusual or disrespectful. The lady’s response, however, was shocking: “Are you sure you have money to buy it?” Excuse me?! That’s incredibly rude and judgmental. No one should ever be treated like that based on what they wear or how they look. Every customer deserves to be treated with basic respect and kindness. It’s so disappointing to see this kind of attitude from a neighbourhood shop we used to trust. My mom left feeling embarrassed and humiliated. Such a bad experience — we won’t be coming back, and I can’t recommend this place to anyone.

Google
Bit pricey so 4 stars but the quality of the food looks great. Very impressed by the display. No fish smell in the shop so must be fresh. So many varieties of oysters! I bought a big jar of salmon roe, and I think it's slightly cheaper than I usually get. They sell not only fish but all sorts of Wagyu too.

Yelp
Ordered 6kg of fish priced at roughly $20 per kilo, I was told to come back in half an hour after they've gutted and prepared the fish. It was not ready for nearly one hour and that wasn't even the worst of it. The order came to over $300 ($50 a kilo) and they claimed to have misheard the order and I still had to pay for it. They had not told me the price nor showed me the supposedly fresh/live fish before (could have been old stock). Would not recommend this place to anyone. TLDR: Sneaky fishery management dupes unsuspecting customer.
