There are food institutions that stand the test of time, either maintaining what made them special or evolving into another level of deliciousness. Dangerously Delicious Pies does neither of these. The pies used to live up to their name, dangerously delicious, but sadly this institution has come far from their namesake. Speaking of fall, my colleagues and I went for a pumpkin pie, simple succulent staple of the season. Thanks to this experience, we can now settle the debate of whether or not humans can taste more than the so called 5 flavors of sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami. There is definitely more, and one of them is utter disappointment which is embodied by this pie. The body was flavorless and barely had the tiniest aroma of pumpkin. The texture was that of a pear that time had forgotten. The crust, which sometimes can redeem a failed body of pie, was nothing more than a dry, pale attempt that one would have to exert extreme effort into extracting any semblance of flavor. I write this with a heavy heart. I wanted this to be an enjoyable experience that I fondly remember from a couple years ago. I thought the last couple visits in the past year were a fluke of bad batch of pies. It is almost criminal to charge $30 for what was a harsh life lesson. But it looks like this is the new norm and I will have to look elsewhere for my pie cravings...
Two stars only because of the guy who worked there still having enthusiasm over pie and wearing a Rocko's Modern Life t-shirt.
