There are food institutions that stand the test of time, either maintaining what made them special or evolving into another level of deliciousness. Dangerously Delicious Pies does neither of these. The pies used to live up to their name, dangerously delicious, but sadly this institution has come far from their namesake. Speaking of fall, my colleagues and I went for a pumpkin pie, simple succulent staple of the season. Thanks to this experience, we can now settle the debate of whether or not humans can taste more than the so called 5 flavors of sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami. There is definitely more, and one of them is utter disappointment which is embodied by this pie. The body was flavorless and barely had the tiniest aroma of pumpkin. The texture was that of a pear that time had forgotten. The crust, which sometimes can redeem a failed body of pie, was nothing more than a dry, pale attempt that one would have to exert extreme effort into extracting any semblance of flavor. I write this with a heavy heart. I wanted this to be an enjoyable experience that I fondly remember from a couple years ago. I thought the last couple visits in the past year were a fluke of bad batch of pies. It is almost criminal to charge $30 for what was a harsh life lesson. But it looks like this is the new norm and I will have to look elsewhere for my pie cravings... Two stars only because of the guy who worked there still having enthusiasm over pie and wearing a Rocko's Modern Life t-shirt.

Pretty good pie joint. This place didn't knock my socks off but the pies were good and they have a big selection to choose from whether it's savory or sweet. The guy behind the counter was great and this is a nice spot for the locals meaning it isn't a tourist spot. Try out their pies. It's probably the most cost effective meal and/or dessert you can have in this area of D.C. Eat in, outside, or get it to go...we got ours to go.

Absolutely amazing! We came in right before closing on a weeknight. Service was great, very amiable. And the blackberry pie, warmed up, was transcendent. Also very generous slice size. I wish we discovered this earlier in our visit, we would have been back for savory pies for breakfast and lunch!

O-M-G! Delicious! Huge portions, low cost. $6.50 a slice of pie warmed up to perfection. And the music in the shop is pretty good too (Norah Jones kind of music). I think it creates a good atmosphere. My server was funny and friendly. Will definitely come back. Photo: Apple Crumb pie.

Pies were pretty good; however, we had to wait about 30 min for our pies. They were out of alot of the flavors we wanted. They have a decent craft beer selection to compliment the pies. Just was a decent overall (albeit somewhat frustrating experience). Better to go during off times when nobody is in the place.

From the finger-licking pies to the sweet hospitality, I highly recommend coming in for a slice or two! There is an impressively large selection of over a dozen of sweet and savory pies and quiches to choose from with interesting flavors like beer brat pie to ratatouille. Not your average Marie Calender's chicken pot pies. I finally got my fiancee to stop eating them and replaced them with real chicken pot pies which have become dangerously delicious. There are plenty of vegetarian options to choose from as well. My favorite savory pies are the Tofu Curry pie and Hot Rod pie while I love the Mobtown, Chocolate Fudge, Caramel Apple Crumb, Chocolate Chess, and Baltimore Bomb sweet pies. The "pietenders" here are pretty cool and very nice. I've always experienced great service and sometimes even tip them. The location here is much smaller than the one on H street, there is a little bit of seating inside and some small tables outside. This is more of a take out location than a sit-down as people usually come here for a quick lunch during the weekdays. As the pies are dangerously delicious, I come here at least once a month to get my pie fix.

I love pies, but diverging from many of my friends: I'm just not at all impressed with this place. The sweet pies aren't nearly as good as what I can even find sitting on the shelf of a grocery store, and the savory pies just taste so dull, with a texture reminiscent of a savory pie that's been sitting out far too long (and from my experience here that's quite likely the exact cause). If you really want pies, Pie Sisters (in Georgetown) is the place to go (take the Circulator bus west along Mass Ave / K Street).
