Pros:
Very cool space, it's awesome we have a new queer space opened up in Boston. It's really nice inside, I like the decor a lot.
Has food and games upstairs, neither of which I have tried but I've heard good things and it seems like it could be a fun place to hang out during the evening.
Cover charge is relatively affordable the times I've gone, compared to other place in the city.
Cons:
You have to wait in a line to go downstairs once you get inside, which is nicer than being outside, but still a weird thing I've not experienced anywhere else. It's also jarring to get down there and see that it's really not that crowded, after for waiting 30 minutes. Truly the downstairs space is being underutilized and, I'm not sure if it's because of fire codes, but it feels very empty once you get down there based on the amount of people they let it. There's bound to be one area of the bar that's completely empty, which leads to it feeling a bit awkward because not many people dance. There's also a lot of people just sitting at the bar, which isn't super great to see when you waited 30 minutes to come down and dance.
I've gone twice now and both DJs I saw severely misread the audience. There's one or two hits scattered throughout the sets, but for the most part it's music that's just adjacent to mainstream, that maybe half or less of the crowd will know at any given point. I'm not sure if this is why not many people dance, but it's not super fun to only recognize every fourth song, again, especially after you waited so long to get down there.
I get vodka sodas and the one upstairs tasted like water while the one downstairs tasted like vodka, so this is a bit of a nitpick but the consistency in drinks is very different.
Overall:
It's a bit of an awkward feel, so you probably need to be a very outgoing person to truly enjoy it. The people are nice, and the community it draws is nice, but it feels a bit far from a traditional bumping club. It might be a better starting spot for people who want to get a quick dinner and a few drinks before they go elsewhere for night time shenanigans or people who are looking for a few drinks and a game of catan. Dani's won't be the first place I throw out on the table going forwards, but it definitely has a lot of potential as a newly opened space. I think they may just have a few kinks to work out.
