Danner Union Way

Low quality boots for high quality price. Used their work boots for 4 months before they gave out and the boa technology busted. Worst decision was going to this store.

I visited one of my favorite brand stores and found that additional discounts were being applied to items like hiking boots and clothing, so I purchased a few things. I’m not sure how long the discount period lasts, but I’d recommend checking it out!

A smaller store but still well stocked. I intentionally sought out Danner products when looking for new boots. I've always found Danners to be of great quality and was not disappointed in my visit. The gentleman in the store was very knowledgeable (filled me in on White's Boots and their relationship to Danner) and was patient while I tried different sizes. He was even polite when some weirdo came in asking for sight-seeing advice. Store is very clean and smells amazing. Would shop here again in a heartbeat.

Great store in downtown Portland to try on the iconic Danner shoes, a Portland local pride and many models are "Made in USA". Their shoes are both highly functional and have great aesthetically style. Customer service was very friendly and attentive. Besides Danner, the store also carries some other outdoor brands and has a small but nice selection of outdoor apparels and gears like socks, bottles, backpacks.

Not that I really need another pair of boots but I just couldn’t resist buying a pair of Crater Rims, customer returns, at half price. Just lucky that was the boots I was after and of the few pairs on their sale shelf were exactly my size. If you’ve been to the outlet store close to the airport you might think that visiting this shop isn’t worth it but it is. Although smaller it stocks quite a few things not available in the bigger outlet. Big thanks to both members of staff in the store especially Paul from my home country (the friendly nation on the other side of the pond!). By the way I have a pair of USA made Danner boots still going strong after 23 years of wear.

After looking at these boots online in Australia for over a year I finally got to visit Portland and buy them at the store! Wanted to make sure the size was right. Staff were great - very knowledgeable and attentive. Thanks for the free laces.

I had an amazing experience! I got my boots as a gift and after going on a hike I quickly realized that that are small:( I went to the store to see if that can help me and end up with new size that works! The shoes are 100% waterproof and sooo comfortable! Just need to break down the ankle support! Thank you Danners team for the great service and awesome products!

I've always been a huge Danner fan. I have five pairs. I was at the OneMotoShow down by the waterfront and they gave me a free shoeshine and a coupon for a really nice free tshirt which I picked up later. Later in the day I dropped by their store next to Powell's books with a dead cell phone and the guy working there charged my phone so I could catch an UBER home. What a nice guy! Bought some clothes while I was there. Love this place. I just wish Danner shoes wore out so I could buy a new pair, but they last forever.

I've been to this downtown location and Tanasbourne. I can't play games with Danner anymore. They never have the shoes I'm looking for in stock and their online stock shows incorrect data for the locations. Keeping good inventory in a POS system is not that difficult. Please do better.

Quality and craftsmanship. If you appreciate those two words, you'll appreciate what Danner provides. I've been there a number of times and, to me, they're the quintessential PNW brand. From gloves, boots, a wallet, and a number of pair of clothes I've bought there just this past year,it all comes down to the quality and construction of each and every piece. Sure, they're not cheap. But for this kind of quality and construction, it shouldn't be.

My husband was in need of new work boots. We found a pair of Danners that were on sale so we bought a pair to make sure they would work. They arrived within 2 days and were awesome so I called the next day to order 2 more pairs. They refused to honor the sale price and tried to charge me $100.00 more for each pair. I explained that we only ordered one pair to make sure they fit and were comfortable, as we didn't want to have to return three pairs in case they didn't work out. They absolutely refused to honor the sale price. Not the best customer service experience. Will not buy from them again for this reason.

Needed work boots immediately but also something I can use for outdoors/hiking. Friend recommended Danner and I'm glad he did. Of course I did my reviews on the shoes I wanted to try prior to coming to the store. Tried them in the different colors they had available and everything went smoothly. They have a tester ramp kind of thing with different types of flooring to walk/climb on which is always a good thing to have. I ended up buying a pair and happy to know it comes with a 1 year warranty. Something you would think a shoe so expensive would have. I'll be coming back to get my boyfriend some boots.

Just managed to stop myself at the $200 mark no pun intended. For the last 7 years this is my boot brand of choice. Danner 600 mountain have been my everyday wear for 7 years. They are the forever boot and covered by our local Portlandia factory for life. I have never had but one issue in all my 7 boot pairs not to mention all my USA made socks and boots Danner produces. So the PUN is I delt with an awesome employee named Mark. I had never bought from a Danner store as lockdown Covid1984 block our freedom of movements for you tell me the martial law plan 2.0 I learned history of the boot saw examples from the 1960s and enjoyed buying tea shirts socks and cups as I am a fan boy of all thing American Worker. Let's go America! Wake up smell the Coffee and support what you love and enjoy your life however you want while freedom is available. Mark was also cool enough to throw in this cool Motorcycle Eric Banna Motor Cycle bandana besides his great conversations.

I bought boots from Danners six months ago. The soul is coming off I went, to the factory to see they would fix them I paid a lot of money for them and they used to be very good. They told me in the store they can't fix it because they're seconds and these boots are brand new still they did not want to touch them they will not back their product. It's still under their name Danners there using cheap material taking shortcuts they don't back there boots like they used to.

Terrible customer service every time I've gone in. Rarely have the size I want and the staff seems annoyed when I ask for help. Danner make great boots but I would recommend buying them from another store or online.

I went in the afternoon of 3/13/18 with the intent of purchasing some boots, but the saleswoman was too busy complaining about customers to the beanied salesman that clearly had no time to actually sell anything, much less offer anything resembling customer service. I walked in and out with nary a hello or nod from either. I'll buy my boots online or from a competitor.

We went here looking for boots from the Danner hunting line or combat line and were out of luck. This store had a pretty poor display of the full Danner line. They definitely catered to their specific location only (Portland) meaning they pretty much only had the trendy hipster style boots. I would understand catering to the local demographic if there were a Danner store in every big city. When a company like Danner only has a few locations nation wide i would expect to see more of their full selection. It was fun to go in and look but we will be shopping Danner at the local Cabelas from now on.

Let's talk shoes. The origin first humans in Africa were barefooters. But about 40,000 years ago, far into our species' migrations, tool-making ancestors invented shoes. By then, they had traveled far afoot and crossed oceans without Top-Siders. Cobblers that made shoes to order in the hood'. Shoe factories. Overseas everything. Mass leather manufacturing. Sport shoe Titanics. Patent and trademark fights over shoes. Zappos vs Solestruck. We've been through a lot as a species since the origin of shoes. And I have some funny stories of shoe obsessed friends to tell sometime if you know me in person. In my high school, the fashion was big heavy European mountain boots. We did have snows. Those boots had Vibram soles that were proven sh*t magnets. Built to last several lifetimes though. The heavy hiking boots eventually took their toll on comfort, so I switched after a while in P-town to a Danner Light bought in a Portland Danner store. They may not look like much but they get the job done in the USA. Still wear them. Those big Euro mountain boots, Danner does those. Logger, electrically insulated, steel toe, work, hiking, hunting, false tongue kilts, desert military, no leather - they do. You can see a subset of their cool boots in downtown Portland at this small retail store. They opened recently with a well executed party. Cool Yelpers represented. Someone should have photographed all the cool attendee shoes. The store vibes Northwest with a focus on 4-15" lace up brown and black leather boots in Euro mountain to logger designs. They have a very cool dressing room, immediately cool kid occupied for the opening, modeled on a teardrop trailer with pre-mid-century wall paper inside. Wood paneled walls everywhere. A mossy and native plant living logo wall. Amid all this coolness, which old-school Danner has just stepped into, is the fact that some Danner boots are actually still made in the USA. The boots carried in this Portland store are the lines made in Portland. That's really cool!! And Danner is doin' it right in the 'hood. Danner collaborated on a boot design with Tanner Goods and sells Tanner Goods belts in the store. This is a good spot for Portland shoe shoppers to check. And a good spot for Portland visitors needing Northwest shoes, uniquely made here! If you are a web shopper, Danner has the Breakroom that has some pretty cool sales sometimes. This Portland company, founded over 80 years ago, is as authentic as it gets. Visit to audition authentic on your feet.

If you're going for that lumberjack Northwest kind of look this is the place for you. Almost all of their clothes and boots are American made, much of the stuff is sourced from Portland. I did find boots that were Japanese, but only one pair :). Plenty of chunky woodsman style things: boots, flannels, denim jackets, knives, scents and soaps.

Salesperson was terrible , I came in to snag a pair of work boots , and upon walking in I got a half ass head nod ... not a hello or hey or welcome to our store ..: just a head nod , I did the classic customer tell if picking products up and looking in the salesman direction .... nothing ... so I move to the other side of the store where more workboots are and get in the sales persons line of sight and try again .... nothing .... so sadly I left , it's probably my fault , I wasn't dressed like I could afford 320$ workboots .... next time I ll come correct and maybe I finally buy a pair of Danner work boots I ve been saving and wanting to buy ...

Big selection, nice clean store. Staff is helpful, prices can get up there pretty quick but good quality. I got work boots for construction but they had many other styles, I am pleased with my purchase.

Danner may have built its reputation on making durable workhorse and hiking boots, but this location in the West End is 100% aimed at the urbanist (and tourist) who's looking to purchase the outdoor aesthetic that has become so ingrained here in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, it's not just all about fashion...it rains, rains, rains here, and Danner boots are perfect for that. They hold up against mud and water, repel against it, and have soles that can grip the rain drenched concrete, metal and brick. In addition to footwear, this store also carries their namesake clothing/accessories, as well as other brands, the majority of which are American-made (Filson, Iron and Resin). There are occasional sales to help make the high prices more palatable. For the most part, the staff here are quite helpful and friendly. Tip: if you're looking specifically for American-made, check the labels before buying, as some items are made abroad. I'd also recommend trying on the clothing and shoes before buying, as the American-made items are handmade and have variations in fit.

I was in birthday shopping for my son, who got a pair of boots, when I saw the Women's Trail 2650. I run a lot on trails, and my go to has been a Nike trail shoe that I love. These, however, have a vibram sole, and after doing some climbing and slipping on some wet granite earlier this month, I thought I would give these a try. They didn't have the color I wanted in my size (and they have half sizes!), so they brought it over from the Airport location for me. Today was a long run day, and I hadn't broken them it, but thought might as well go for it. What a fantastic shoe! It was like I had worn them all my life. Light, flexible and sturdy, balanced over rocks and roots, and well-cushoined. Highly recommend if this is your thing. Here's another thing I loved - my son's boot had an issue with the rubber peeling a little at the toe, and they whipped out a new pair and replaced them on the spot. Plus GREAT customer service.

The Danner flagship store sells factory seconds for deep discounts. There is no better value in Portland for quality, durable outdoor foot wear.

Yes indeed! American made clothing for the urban lumberjack plus accessories you had no idea you needed, all in an incredibly well merchandised store! I may not be able to afford the bulk of the wares on sale at Danner, but I sure have a great time pretending. If I didn't know any better, I'd believe that the powers-that-be at Danner followed me around and took notes about my personal style before opening their West Burnside showroom. It's a quite small store, so I also like to pretend that I'm rich and that this is actually my closet, complete with amazing denim jackets, heavy flannels, leather accessories, kick-ass plant wall and a helpful (and beardy) assistant or two. I'd play classic country and smell of tobacco and mahogany. I'd be the best rich person, I tell ya... I wish the price point was lower, but considering the quality of their goods that's hardly a fair complaint. Danner is rad is high on my list of spots at which to treat myself.

This review is about the store and its staff and not about Danner boots. The store is filled with high-quality stuff and the famous Danner boots. Unfortunately that is the extent of quality and service. There were four or five employees in a relatively small retail space huddled around a laptop - never once were we greeted with a simple hello or an offer of assistance. I'm always appalled by this.. it's probably the multi-year stint in retail where they drilled it in us to greet every customer. Anyhow I digress... Irony of ironies, they were dismayed by the one-star review on Yelp and too traumatized to assist anyone in the store even though the employee-to-customer ratio was two to one. I hope they recover from that one-star review and this one and get around to doing their job.

My boyfriend and I came into the shop with the intention of purchasing some boots. Not one person greeted us. The store was completely empty, but three workers were on duty. All three employees stood behind the counter talking to each other, when they should've sparked some sort of conversation with us (the customers). Not once were we acknowledged, so we left. Never coming back again. P.S. We came all the way from San Francisco to visit, thanks for the great hospitality.

Very rude treatment by a salesgirl. Another employee apologized for the her (she should have done it herself) and offered me 20% off. I likely won't go back.

I stopped by here on my last day in Portland and found some pretty good buys. I bought a insulated flannel that was 40% off and a cool T-shirt with an elk on it. The staff was friendly and offered to answer any questions I had. So far I like my new clothes and I have to give an extra star because they were playing Jethro Tull's "Aqua Lung"!

Never heard of this company but decided to drop in and see what they were all about. I liked their selection of boots but have to say that some of them look a little too heavy duty. I am not sure if that's more fashionable but I guess its whatever floats your boat. I love the fact that their products are made in Portland. I can immediately trust the quality of these shoes and justify its price! The workers at the store were helpful and gave me recommendations. Specifically, I was looking for a specific color and they made a call to all of their stores in Portland trying to find it. Sadly, they didn't, but knowing that I wanted to buy the shoes onsite to not pay for sales tax, the store offered to send me the shoes without charging me for shipping or the sales tax! Awesome service!

Plaid was something that never went out of style in either OR or WA state. These guys know how to make it urban cool for a cost. I love the concept of what they're going for but your just better off finding something similar at Buffalo. Small store that gives that boutique feel.

Love the smaller boutique vibe of the store that has a winter cabin feel to it. They have a well curated selection of outdoor necessities ranging from leather goods, notepads, books, soaps, and of course footwear and apparel. The employees are super friendly and know their shit. If you're a talkative shopper, they're always up for a good conversation, but if you're not, they'll respect that and not hound you or push anything on you. Season after season, they always have a good rotation of products and colorways that keep me coming back for more.

Man, THIS is how you make regular customers. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the way they went out of their way to get me what I wanted before we left PDX (we were there on vacation) was insane. Way, way more than the "leave your money and go" assembly line customer service you so often get. Oh yeah, Danner products? American-made, have that rugged cool aesthetic, and seem slightly pricey... until you consider the quality you're getting. Divide the price of a pair of Danner boots by the amount of miles you will be walking in them, and they'll start looking like a bargain.

Bummer, my husband wanted to try and probably buy a pair but the staff was to busy socializing to even say hello..

I'll echo the other five star reviews here - praising both the quality of the boots and the friendliness of the downtown PDX store staff. I've been into this store three times on three separate visits to Portland. On my first visit, the store had just opened and a magazine photographer was conducting a photo shoot while I was shopping. I was clearly in the way, but the staff went out of their way to help me find the boots I was looking for, regardless of the shoot, and I purchased an awesome pair of Danners. On my latest visit, the staff was also beyond friendly. The boots that I was after were not in their store, but were being sold by a partner company up the street. They gave me information on the boot and directed me on where to find them - losing the sale but helping the customer anyway. I've had nothing but great experiences in the store and am loving both pairs of my Danner (made in the USA) boots.

I just want to say this is an incredible company with incredible service. The staff at the Union Way store is beyond friendly. There was a fit issue with my boots and they, in a kind and friendly way, helped me out. I have a perfect fitting shoe and am a customer for life. I was treated like a person and had the best customer service experience I've ever had at any store. Believe me folks there is no better shoes company in Oregon for my money. Casual, hikers, work shoes, they have them all. If you haven't been down to the Union Way store go. Totally worth it for the money. Wow. Thanks Danner.

Mark did a great job helping me find two different styles of boots. The selection of work boots at the union store is limited but Mark was able to relate products on the shelf to what I need.

Didn't have what I was looking for downtown. Then they called the airport store and had it put on hold for me. I arrived 3 minutes until close and they were NOT push or rushing me at all! This is a company that still understands customer service!!! I'll be buying Danners from now on!!

Been to this store a couple times now and it's been a great experience. The staff are very helpful and personable! I hate having the experience where I just barely set my foot into a store and I feel practically jumped on by the staff with "CAN I HELP YOU?" and "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?!" And then they basically follow you around repeating this over and over. The staff at Danner respected my space and allowed me to approach them on my own terms. I asked questions, they eagerly answered them, they didn't push any products on me or make me feel obligated to purchase something just because I happened to step in the store. It was a very genuine, pleasant interaction that I don't see very often in retail. I also had a wonderful experience with ordering Danner online. I had purchased a pair of hiking boots from their black friday sale and they ended up coming a little later than expected. A week after I received my boots, I received another package from Danner that contained a HAND WRITTEN apology note and a pair of Woolrich socks. Best customer service ever. I truly feel that Danner genuinely cares about their customers and sees them as people, rather than a source to manipulate $$ out of. I really can't say that about any other company. I'm definitely a customer for life.

I walked into this beautifully designed store the other day, hoping to resolve a problem with a pair of boots that didn't fit comfortably. Without going into huge detail, employee Skyler Stevenson listened very cafefully to my explanation then thoughtfully offered some solutions. I ended up with a pair of Danners that fit perfectly and felt that I had encountered a type of customer service that I thought was a lost art. Danner has a reputation for excellence in their products and, now, as far as I'm concerned, an excellence in customer care.

I would just like to counter some of these 1-star reviews with my little anecdote, as it may help out a store that I found very agreeable, in light of the very negative image that two of the three reviewers thus far have given. I was traveling through portland during their recent snow storm; I landed on the Thursday that it hit, and didn't leave until the following Tuesday. I was very underprepared, having packed a pair of ankle-high Sebago boat shoes and some slick-bottomed Red Wing Heritage boots (both are great boots, but ill-equipped for the unprecedented ice and slush). I happened to be near the Danner store on my last day in Portland because I was headed to Powell's--a must-see by all accounts--when I noticed the storefront. I decided that being in the land of Danner, and having some extra hours to kill, I might as well see about getting a pair--or at least trying some on, as I've wanted a pair of Danner's for a while, but with no stores in my area carrying them, I've never taken the plunge of purchasing them online without first trying them on. So there I was, peeking into store-front window at 10:45, 15 minutes before their opening time. I cupped my hands around my eyes and peered into dim, unopened store. Low and behold, a long-bearded, flannel-clad, Danner-sporting, thick-rimmed-eyeglass-donning shopkeep came to the door and opened it. I asked if he might let me in a little early to look around, as I was a traveler in need of some more appropriate footwear--I showed him my my sad, soppy, slick-soled, boots. Without missing a beat, he graciously let me in early. He then proceeded to tell me all I needed to know about each particular model, and when the time came, brought out as many pairs as I needed to try, while also giving me his own recommendations about how they break in, which ones were best for actually hiking or working in, and which were more for style. He honestly represented each shoe he showed me--telling me which were made in the USA, and which were made in china (only a small selection of cheaper more "style" oriented boots). He didn't hesitate to give me his honest opinions on which would likely last longer, versus which were made more for street-wear. After at least 30 minutes of trying on shoes, I decided that I wanted a style that they didn't have in stock in the color I wanted, so he kindly wrote down the style number and color, without hesitation or any attitude, and I went on my way. The service was nothing but top-notch, and I will certainly be buying Danner boots because of the experience, because I now know what size/style will work best for me. I should also mention that the other person in the shop (maybe the manager, not sure) was also quite helpful, and re-assured me that his Danners had brought him on many a hiking trip over the three years he'd had that particular pair, and still had many years to come (which I could see certainly appeared to be true, both in the wear they had, but also the great shape they were in). Please disregard the low yelp rating and give this store a chance--but if you're in the market for Danners and find yourself in Portland, you probably won't be looking at yelp to make your decision to go or not anyways. It sounds to me like the really long winded 1-star reviewer (though I may be hypocritical in characterizing Ben's post as such) is simply one of those customers who can't be satisfied, and maybe the other 1-star reviewer just came on a bad day. The discrepancy between my experience and the two other reviewers was severe enough, that I decided to write my first yelp review. Consider that and the general lack of eloquence by which Ben L. lays out a rather trivial complaint (he returned a pair of shoes that he was happy with because he didn't get a discount on shoe cream, and was possibly given a bit of sass over asking?) Though I don't think he deserved any rudeness, Ben's response was a bit severe, and I therefore doubt to some degree the validity of his beef.

My son got hired on fighting wild land fires and everyone he talked do doing the job told him to get the Danner tropical storms for the job. We went to the Danner store on Burnside and were greeted promptly by a friendly knowledgeable employee. These boots are spendy! However it also quickly became apparent that they are extremely well made. Purchase done, my son left the next day for his new job.Two days later I'm looking in the paper and I see that Danner is having a sale... 30% off! I called the store and asked if they did sales adjustments, the manager told me that no, as a policy they do not give adjustments to pre-sale purchases. Then he asked me what I had bought (one of their most expensive boots) the whole time we were talking he was courteous and professional. Long winded story short. He gave me a store credit for the difference that same day. I was impressed with his solution and will make it a point to continue shopping there and for sure will recommend them to my friends. The staff here were super helpful. Non-pushy salespeople, were available to answer any questions we had about both Danner boots and the other great brands they carry. We bought the Danner boot dressing, to use on my girlfriends vintage Coach bag. When you ask about boot polish to use on a lady's purse, you might expect eyes to roll. But nope! They were super helpful and knowledgeable, these guys and gals are into leather regardless of what that form it's in.

Great store, helpful staff. My wife and I visited Portland for the first time and I was intent on picking up a pair of Danner boots. This location on Burnside is fantastic because it's right across from Powell's Books, another must-see attraction for visitors to Portland. I was met by friendly staff but was saddened to discover that they didn't have the full line of Danner boots, and sure enough they didn't have the pair I was after. But the guy who was talking to me got on the phone and called another store to see if they had someone available to run the pair of the boots that I wanted over to the Burnside store. I thought that this was exemplary of great sales service, because he understood we didn't have our rental car anymore and he was intent on helping me get my boots. As luck would have it, it was a slow day at the other store and I had my boots in about an hour. This isn't the regular way they do things, but I am really grateful they made that extra effort for me.
