Our first visit to Castine to check out Maine Maritime Academy for my son. It was the only place open in town for dinner and we just traveled three hours to settle in and have a good meal. We really wanted to like this place as the atmosphere, right on the waterfront seemed historic and fun. We also figured if it’s pub food? How can you mess that up!? The place had two people at the bar and one table of four when we walked in. We got served in a relatively quick manner but, quickly found just one more table walking in left the staff with their hands tied. I got a burger with no bun and I added bacon my burger, which cost me $21.00 with rosemary fries (the only thing they cooked right.) Now, I’m a single Mom, I’m not made of money, this was supposed to be a treat for me and my son. My son and I were polite but, all he had for dinner was fries by time we finally got our food his pulled pork sandwich was boiling hot, I guess from being in a microwave for so long and the meat was literally drowned in sauce. The meat that was in the sandwich was not edible, mostly pieces of fat and he took one bite and only had fries for dinner. That sucks. As I mentioned we were polite but, this is a JUST review. We waited forever to get our bill even though there was only a total of at that point two people at the bar and a four top plus us, the waitress who gathered up our plates and saw the barely eaten pulled pork had no questions as to why it was still on the plate and why we weren’t taking it home. All I can tell you is highly overpriced and the cook is not a chef- just horrible. Probably a better place to belly up to a bar and get drunk but, don’t waste your money on their food! Head up the street to The Breeze where they know how to cook and with fresh food to boot.
