What a beautiful little location a beautiful spot in the world is my first time in Maine and I have truly enjoyed the hospitality at this location. The blackened chicken Caesar salad was awesome. The lady that was bartending wasn’t quite a bartender however she delivered phenomenal service. And when I come back to visit my husband’s family, we will come back. Hands-down.

Our first visit to Castine to check out Maine Maritime Academy for my son. It was the only place open in town for dinner and we just traveled three hours to settle in and have a good meal. We really wanted to like this place as the atmosphere, right on the waterfront seemed historic and fun. We also figured if it’s pub food? How can you mess that up!? The place had two people at the bar and one table of four when we walked in. We got served in a relatively quick manner but, quickly found just one more table walking in left the staff with their hands tied. I got a burger with no bun and I added bacon my burger, which cost me $21.00 with rosemary fries (the only thing they cooked right.) Now, I’m a single Mom, I’m not made of money, this was supposed to be a treat for me and my son. My son and I were polite but, all he had for dinner was fries by time we finally got our food his pulled pork sandwich was boiling hot, I guess from being in a microwave for so long and the meat was literally drowned in sauce. The meat that was in the sandwich was not edible, mostly pieces of fat and he took one bite and only had fries for dinner. That sucks. As I mentioned we were polite but, this is a JUST review. We waited forever to get our bill even though there was only a total of at that point two people at the bar and a four top plus us, the waitress who gathered up our plates and saw the barely eaten pulled pork had no questions as to why it was still on the plate and why we weren’t taking it home. All I can tell you is highly overpriced and the cook is not a chef- just horrible. Probably a better place to belly up to a bar and get drunk but, don’t waste your money on their food! Head up the street to The Breeze where they know how to cook and with fresh food to boot.

Great location, good energy, and the pizza we got was very delicious- the vegetables on top were super fresh, and everything was perfectly made. Perfect pre-kayak dinner spot!

Things were great until I paid for music, and they turned the music all the way down. It was the grumpy man in my photos. So rude. After telling them about not being able to hear it, they turned it all the way off.

Our dinner stop for our first first night in Castine. We were surprised not to see fish and chips at on Irish pub on the water but hey they had a veggie burger. Which was fine and the Mac and cheese bites were a hit. A mixed selection of beer and some wine. We were in early but I’m sure it gets hopping later at night.

We really enjoyed talking with the owner. Great guy. Good stories. Good local brewery and cedars sold here. AMAZING PIZZA!!!! We are so happy we chose this place on our last night here.

Very very Rude staff especially the guy at the counter as if they own the place. So upset. Really love this town I think this place needs to be shut down though.

Google
This was a really pleasant surprise. Unassuming and popular with the (mostly seasonal?) locals, we went on a Tuesday evening.... It was pumping because of Taco Tuesday, which was good value. Kind of sad we didn't stump for the pizza, which looked amazing - we had tacos instead. They were okay, but a little bland for my palate. Still, they could be livened up with the optional extras. Excellent range of Maine beers and ciders, with several in tap. I am pretty sure, we'll try the pizza next year. We anchored off Indian Beach and took the dinghy across, which doesn't take long at all ages tied up at the town dinghy landing.

Yelp
Fun place. At least they are open seven days a week which is helpful when there's nothing really else in town to go to. I just feel bad because they were rather short staffed and it took a while to get going. The ambience is super fun lots of things from Maine. The food was really good as well. My only complaint is they could use a little bit of background music. It doesn't have to be too loud, but I don't really care to hear other peoples conversations.

Yelp
The food took a very long time but when our pizza & onion rings arrived, they were pretty good. The servers were kind. We sat at the bar & chatted with the very nice captain of the Lil Toot and that helped with the time spent waiting for the food. Come here if you're not in a hurry & not starving & are patient. :)

Yelp
Open all year long, and the food is amazing. Best corned beef I've ever had on St. Pat's Day. Awesome pizza and salads too!

Yelp
We liked it, burgers and Ruben were great, good waitress, good pub atmosphere. We recommend it,

Yelp
Danny Murphy's is the "Cheers" of Castine. Everyone knows your name & face. However, I'm not cheering anymore. While it's the only game in town, the owner, Bernie, seriously needs to take a social etiquette course & learn to appreciate his loyal customers. You can run a business on alcohol and fair tasting food, but you can't do it on rudeness and un-appreciation. Bernie- the people made you and you need to learn to appreciate them. Manner's please!

Yelp
Sorry to write this review.. We came down for a redskins game tonight. When we called earlier, they said they serve food until 8:30. We were ready to order food at 8pm, but didn't see the bartender again until 8:20 even though we had empty glasses for over 10 minutes. She said food orders closed early today due to stuff shortages. We would have bought that reasoning except that a person who showed up after we tried to order was able to order a pizza and wings after we were told the kitchen was closed. Our second pitcher (for 4 of us) was pretty foamy-overall a very disappointing experience. We were looking for a place to hang out on the evenings during our trip, but we'll look elsewhere in town.

Yelp
Being from Ireland it's no wonder we like to visit Irish pubs as it's normally supposed to feel like a piece of home but definitely not here. We sat down a got a tepid welcome at best and had 2 decently poured guinness when we noticed the Irish flag on the wall and all the graffiti and signatures on it. The bar owner was sitting next to us and when asked about it told me he thought it was fine in a smart assed tone. It's places like this that give Irish pubs a bad name as anyone with a half Irish last name thinks they can run one. I found it personally disgraceful to see our flag desecrated in such a manner. Maybe next time they can write and scribble on the American flags next to it.

Yelp
We just ordered pizza for takeout, so I can't speak to the restaurant itself. The man who took my order on the phone was very nice. The pizza left something to be desired. But it's good enough for what it is.

Yelp
A fantastic place to unwind among both locals and visitors...owner and staff are awesome, food is fun and easy. Can't wait to revisit.

Yelp
The service is here is outstanding. The bartender makes you feel like norm from Cheers. Quite possibly the best reuben in the state, a must order. Decent beer selection.

Yelp
This place unfortunately is limited to takeaway in COVID times, but everyone is friendly, the food is good and reasonable, and you can enjoy a drink while you wait. Recommend.

Yelp
Super fun place even in Covid! Bartender was great. Beer and food yummy.. and the view

Yelp
It's always disappointing to hear staff complain about orders, especially if it's the manager (or owner ) doing it, nobody wants to hear that. We waited almost an hour for a cheese pizza but left before it was delivered - we were tired of hearing "5 more minutes"! We heard the oven "went down", twice and even asked the waitress if we should change our order from pizza to something quicker, we were told "no, it'll be 5 more minutes". Although the waitresses were very nice and were trying their best under weak circumstances, I can't not in good conscience give it a higher rating than a 1 Star, because that was our experience that night.

Bob N.

Yelp
You cannot beat the location, but the food service was extremely slow. Our waitress was terrific - friendly and attentive. Our food order took over two hours to deliver (chicken parm, three quesadillas, chicken fingers and a burger). We complained 4 times before the food was delivered. The restaurant had 8 tables with only 2 with food. Food quality was average at best. Onion rings were very good. The owner did not seem to care about our dissatisfaction and chose to argue with us instead of offering any service recovery options. In the end, he provided us with a 20% discount which we just gave to our waitress since the poor service was not her fault. Unless ownership changes, I will never be back (and I live Irish pubs!).

Yelp
This place is great for what it is. Extensive beer list for fantastic prices, with a few good local crafts on draft and in bottle. Wasn't sure at first where the waitstaff was at first but soon the guy behind the bar came over and took our order. We had the Greek pizza and the pulled pork. Not bad! The sweet potato waffle fries were delicious. It's got a pool table and a very relaxed - hang out decor. TVs large and well located. Would be a great place to watch a game.

Yelp
Worst service ever!!!! No staff no consideration of customers at all!!! Waited over 2 hours for food and didn't care.

Yelp
The only bar in the tiny town of Castine ME. We brought 10 family members for a few light beers and to play a casual game of pool around 9 pm. We were immediately met by unwelcoming wait staff and a bartender who informed us we would only be allowed one beer each, even though the bar, as stated on all websites, would be closing at 11 pm. Upon ordering a few beers for half of the group (with a small fit of rudeness when this person tried to take the beers away from the bar), the person then informed the bartender that he told her there would be more people coming, and she responded saying "Well, I told you that was a bad idea." This is a disgrace to the idea of an "Irish pub" and we are sorely sad that being the only bar in the town, they seem to hate serving bar customers. For a family that has been coming to Castine for over 3 decades, we could not have felt more unappreciated, unwelcome, and sad. Save yourself a headache and get your beer at T&C market, where they're super friendly and welcoming, and drink your beer at home.

Yelp
Outstanding service, great location, wide beer selection and tasty eats. I love this place.

Yelp
I didn't get a pickle or service. A "Redskins parking only" sign in Castine, Maine...I almost cried. Turns out this sign represents their core values of honesty as well as "we serve food until 8:30". The Redskins pregame was on the main screen until we decided to go to the bar and fetch our own drinks. Then it was Red Sox time. I get it, we're in Maine, but please take down your false advertising. We moved to the bar to get a glimpse of the game and a bartender. While the game could be seen, the bartenders belonged on a protected species list. Our glasses went empty, our menus...invisible. While the sight and smell of pizza and good times surrounded us, our tourist inadequacies ensured our leprotic treatment. When we tried to attain nourishment at 8:10 we were told the kitchen was closing early due to staff shortages. While we could have happily drank our dinner, it was a hard pill to swallow when our bar stool neighbor was served a smorgasbord of fares after our food inquiry. When our last pitcher of beer came with a third of foam, it was time to go home. There was nothing that could take away from the peace and tranquility of the Maine coastline except this bar.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Looked pretty grim from the outside, but we stopped in because we'd driven a good bit and the place we wanted to go next door was closed. Thought we'd get a drink, look at the menu. My beer was thin, fruity, gassy and skunked. I let the waitress know, and she brought a different draught. She was nice. The next beer was a little thicker, had some head, but was still gassed, and skunked. I couldn't drink it. I've never sent a beer back in my life, and never not been able to finish a beer in my life. I'm fifty years old. Two bad kegs? Incredible. And then the Dewars my wife and her dad got was an eye-poppingly small pour, and cut with water, and weird tasting. We didn't get dinner.

Allie B.

Yelp
Stopped in here one night with my family and it was understandable that there weren't a lot of seats because it was a small place, but we sat ourselves because no one had greeted us. We had gotten our drinks and ordered two appetizers, but it wasn't until 45 minutes to an hour until we got our appetizers. The place was full, but there was only one other table waiting for food, so it didn't make sense why nachos took an hour to make. After we had ate our appetizer, the waitress finally came over and asked us what we wanted for dinner and it took another hour to get our food. It was just ridiculous how long it took to get food and how inattentive our waitress was. She never apologized for the food taking so long, and rarely ever came over to check if we needed refills or anything. I'm not one to complain, but this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had.

Yelp
So, I have this really hot girlfriend named Mollz, she just wanted meat for dinner. No vegetables, no potatoes, just meat. I ordered her the largest platter of spicy buffalo wings they had and she demolished all of them. Nothing left but bones. The meal was excellent, except they had no good cakes. Thank god I was there with my girlfriend, she supplied the restaurant with some much needed cake zoo wee mama.
