Dan's Hamburgers - Austin

Ordered a cheeseburger with fries. This is the type of burgers I like. Simple and tasty, what more could you ask for. The fries were also just plain fries fried well. This place has been around for a while, so they must be doing something right. It's definitely a place I will be visiting again when I'm in Austin.

Dan’s hamburgers! Been an Austin original for over 50 years. It’s been a while since I’ve eaten here, but it still had the same look and feel and was packed with customers. The onion rings were great and the curly fries were good too. We ordered the cheeseburgers and they were really tasty. My daughter ordered the chicken strip sandwich. She wanted a chicken sandwich, but they didn’t have one although they said they could create one for her. She didn’t like it. They were traditional chicken strips and they were hard and dried out. All three strips. We were really disappointed in this. Overall, this place is good, but on our last visit I can’t say it’s great.

I ordered a cheeseburger with no tomato, no pickles and extra mayonnaise last night. I went back on my way back to Houston and got a wet burger that was salty. The bread was wet and the onion rings were floating in grease. The service was great! The burger and onion rings were disgusting. I don’t have a problem paying for what I want but don’t do me like this. Very disappointed and not coming back again. I patronize this establishment because my previous visits have been at Ben White location. The African American cashier was an Amazing cashier and so was the lady that handed me my order. The quality has changed and just want a full refund to my original payment please and thank you. Wet breaded, over board on the mayonnaise and more onions than lettuce. Just because I didn’t want no tomato or pickles, doesn’t mean to overcompensate in other veggies. This clearly is a training opportunity for the kitchen staff.

This is good food. I don't know how they make it taste so delicious but damn I'm impressed. Never get fast food when you got options like this. Heard about the hype and finally decides to try it. My only complaint is that I sat underneath the A/C vent and some water dripped on my arm. Who cares about cosmetic issues when what really counts is off the charts.

Best good ol fashion cheeseburger! Angus Beef on top of it too! Greatly affordable compared to other burger joints. Stopped to eat here in our way to the Chris Brown concert. First time here and won’t be the last. We order their two cheeseburgers, small curly fries and small onion rings. All of it was seasoned to perfection! Fries were not made in house but the onion rings were. You get free drink refills! They have an affordable menu with sizable portions. Hard to find nowadays. Food was fresh, hot, and delicious! Service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was clean, plenty of seating (booth or chair options), and included waiting benches for to-go orders. Looking forward to coming back to Dans! Can’t believe I never been here before.

I came into town to go to a show. I've heard about this place before and some of the locals said that it was a great place. I decided to try it because I'm a burger kind of guy. First off, when you walk in it has that old diner kind of feel. Classic. You walk up to the front counter and you're greeted with someone who has a fantastic demeanor and sense of humor. She gave us all of the information of the different items. I ordered the burger and fries and onion rings. Sat down and waited a few minutes and they called my number. When I got the food it was very surprising to finally get a burger that was practically fresh off the grill. It was very juicy and very flavorful. I rate this place one of my higher list of good burger spots. If you like that old kind of diner experience, this is the place to go. This place is magnitudes better than any fast food or big corporate company. Support the local businesses and keep them going. Next time I go back to Austin I'm definitely going to hit this place.

Exceptional food, freshly made onion rings, timely and professional service. Best burger and BLT I've had in Texas yet. And still more clean than 90% of the diners I've been to. Milkshake quality is perfect, not super sweet not overtly thick, beyond belief all around.

Best hamburger I’ve ever had! Free drink refills! Affordable menu with sizable portions! Food was fresh, hot, and delicious! Service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was clean, plenty of seating (booth or chair options), and included waiting benches for to-go orders. Small menu with just the basics, but quality is out of this world! The staff looked relaxed and happy to be working with each other! Fresh produce, fluffy yet crispy fires, patty cooked to the perfect temperature, and perfect amount of mustard! Parking can be a little difficult during busier hours and the soda machine is too close to the check out.

Good burgers, good service and the place was pretty cool. Not sure what else to say. It's a burger place. Met and exceeded expectations.

Dans Hamburgers has been around for a long time and it has that old school diner feel to it. Serving up greasy and great hamburgers. The service was good and the food came out right away and was hot. We tried one of their double cheeseburgers the burger was delicious and came with all the fixings you would expect from a burger. We also got a side of their curly fries. The food was cheap and delicious makes for a cheap great meal.

My son and I ate lunch here today. Still a 5 Star Burger Joint !!! The burgers are greasy and require several napkins but they are delicious. I asked for extra pickles and got plenty which made my day !!! The dining area is fairly clean, and the staff is friendly. Worthy of a bookmark and a try !!!

Delicious!! All the toppings are super fresh. I got a burger fully loaded which is ketchup, tomato, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion! The burger is seasoned. If you don't like seasoning, this is not the burger for you. Everything made fresh to order. Not fake fresh but actually cooked after you order. Counter service, which I love! Don't live in Austin for 13 years and finally come here. Stop and come NOW! Yummy! I forgot to take good pics!! It looked to good so I dove in!

This place has really delicious but and fries. Also, the hand breaded onion rings are huge and excellent. They also serve a real good breakfast for a reasonable price.

Cool lille burger spot that also has breakfast. I had the bisquits and gravy, and it was pretty good. Very fast service and the place was very clean. Looks like the burgers are about 6 bucks. My breakfast with coffee was $8. Would definitely recommend this place

Dan's is one of those longtime Austin establishments one hopes will always be around. One of my all time favorite Austin memories was getting a plate of delicious pancakes with family while in town. So many businesses have come and gone in ATX, but it's great to know Dan's is still here. If you are a diner aficionado, visiting this great restaurant is definitely recommended.

If you're looking for a great place to get a really good burger, you can find it at this institutional landmark. This place has been in the same place on Lamar Boulevard for five decades. Unfortunately, it also is showing some signs of its age. If you're coming here during the lunch hours between 11 and 1 pm, parking can be a hassle and you can expect at least a 10 minute wait. I do recommend getting it to go because the less than spacious dining room is always packed during this time. I recommend their double meat burger and their chocolate shakes are great, but they are not hand scooped. Their fries are good, but nothing really that special. The thing I noticed missing was the fact that they used to offer three sizes of their burgers and now they don't. Although, seven dollars for a double single cheese large burger is still a great deal. The service is good and the kitchen crew is very capable of handling the rush. The burgers here have been consistently good over the years, which keeps me coming back.

The food is delicious! I highly recommend the onion rings, you can skip on the fries. The prices are less than Five Guys, but the double meat and single cheeseburger genuinely taste similar to Five Guys quality. We will be coming back it was delicious and cheap. Always and forever!!! I moved to San Francisco 18 years ago. When I'm in Austin to see the kids, Dan's is at the top of the list for breakfast and burgers.

I've lived in Austin for three years now and have always passed this place so I finally decided to try it. The burger was kind of average. I would probably take my family that visits here as a safe option to eat a burger that everyone would be satisfied with.

Best burgers in Austin. It does not matter the location you go to, they are simple but incredibly tasty. The environment is also quite nice, I like the decor, it's of an older style which makes it unique. The team is nice and quick considering the busy environment. Always leave satisfied when I come to Dans Hamburgers.

I was excited to finally give Dan's Hamburgers a visit due to all of the recommendations I got for a good burger. Upon arriving, you can definitely tell that the place has been around for a while. The building is old, and doesn't seem like much when walking in. The cashier/customer service was that of any normal fast food restaurant. And the tables were all dirty as well. I ordered the Double Meat and Single Cheese regular, sandwich only, which came out to $6.59 before taxes. Not a bad price, but I must say that the burger tastes almost identical to Whataburger. Just an average fast food burger. Not sure what all the hype is about, but I've got a feeling it's a nostalgia thing for all the Austinites who have been around for a while. Overall, not bad, but just not great.

Because we were craving a good burger, we stopped by, and as usual, we enjoyed our lunch. My burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned, and as always, the fellow customers are from all walks of life, and the staff are always so friendly.

Dan's is all about the Hamburger! It's just a great no frills old school Hamburger Joint. Food is 5 stars and close to my heart!! One thing you might not know about is their Biscuits and Gravy on their breakfast menu is literally the precursor to starting and ending a life of great choices!! Nah but really if you haven't checked out Dan's by now, you have to give them a shot. Like I said it's a no frills place so don't expect something fancy!

The burgers and the curly fries are very good! Regular fries weren't too good for me. The service was okay... Not the happiest people but weren't rude either. The ambiance is your typical local burger, joint that has been open for a while. Pretty decent and clean.

Tried to get breakfast here. Unfortunately, when I wanted to order a special with no meat because I don't eat pork, I was told I have to order my meal a la carte because they don't do any substitutions, as it slows down the kitchen. How is that for logic? I was told by the owner that it slows down the kitchen. Really? I have worked in plenty of kitchens and every single one has been able to handle substitutions especially for dietary restrictions. The funny thing is if someone orders a la carte it's literally the same amount of work and output. This place is outdated and unwilling to care about the customer or their experience. The blame is at the top because they think something that has been the same for 30 years can't possibly be wrong. I guess they never heard of Blockbuster. This is simply a case of people being too lazy to work on their business and connect with their community. Employees deserve better than to work for people stuck in the past.

I thoroughly enjoyed the burger and fries. The cheese was super melty and delicious. The price was great as well.

Went this morning to Dans Hamburgers on Airport Blvd , and had the Supreme omelet , biscuit and gravy , and it was so heavenly !!! The waitress were very professional and prompt, plus so polite!!! Everything tasted great, and recommend everyone to give them a try, they been in business since forever ,so they know what they are doing, plus if your money conscious , their prices and portion are on the Winning side for you ,just look at the pictures I took... Of course I was digging in , but you get your money worth.

Lowered my score because honestly I just feel like dan's is just another fast food burger joint only just made slightly above average because it's old school

One of our favorite burgers in Austin. Diner style smash burgers cooked to perfection! Fast and a great price point as well. Curly fries are a nice addition too. We will be back!

The vegetables were fresh. The burger patties were fairly thick. The buns were soft and held up well to the juicy patties. The small order of curly fries was the right for the burger. Can't beat the value. Left very full and satisfied.

It doesn't look like much when you walk in but if you want a good old fashion burger then you should go to Dan's. The milkshakes are also yummy. Every time we have gone there, the service has been amazing. The ladies up front are so sweet.

Dans is pretty much a classic here in Austin. Service was quick and the food was good. First time I tried the BLT and it was amazing. The curly fries are the truth. The chicken baker good too! That gravy though!!!!! Mane ain't even gone cap it's fye!!! The burgers are the truth! Definitely need to stop by. Get a taste of Austin!

Good burgers, fries and shakes but the other day I tried a grilled ham and cheese that was sooo delicious!

If you like old school fast food, you'll love Dan's. The straightforward menu is as you might expect from a classic hamburger joint and really, there are no surprises here. The burgers are meaty and tasty with generous toppings and a quality bun. Milkshakes are the typical blended machine ice-cream concoctions available pretty much everywhere; they're not hand-dipped shakes. Still, if you're hankerin' for a solid burger, you can't go wrong here.

I had an excellent burger made the way I like it (with mustard and ketchup). But the best part was the steaming hot fresh fries. It was a treat to not get fries, fried in old oil, or cold fries. The chocolate malt was thick and delicious too. If you're hankering for a good simple burger Dan's is it!

Dans has such good hamburgers and chicken tenders. They are much better than the typical fast food locations nearby. (I also love their walnut brownies they make homemade). The only dislike I have is that they don't have a drive thru window and you have to call in to order to-go. Other than that, the workers are so nice and helpful. Lunch rush is pretty crazy obviously so make sure you plan accordingly if you're going/ordering during lunch.

If you're looking for a classic burger cooked on a flat top this is the place. All the standard sides. I always get my burgers with a side of onion rings. Of course, if your going to get a burger might as well have it with a milkshake. You can even make it into a malt - not too many places do this anymore! It's counter service after breakfast hours. Staff is friendly. You might have to wait during lunch as it is popular lunch time spot.

Sometimes the best places to eat are not fancy. Dan's Hamburgers is no exception. It has great tasting burgers at prices as inexpensive as fast food restaurants. Stopped by here last night and had the double cheeseburger with fries and coke zero. The burger was juicy and the cheese melted perfectly. Very nice taste. The fries were marginal but were not that bad. The parking was pretty good and the dinner has plenty of seating. The cashier was friendly and the order came out pretty quick. I ordered a double meat with bacon, cheese, and jalapeños. I ordered the regular fries as I didn't notice they have curly fries! The burger is a standard hamburger. That's not a bad thing at all in this case. The burger is received was fantastic. Sometimes you just want something basic and this place does it in the best way possible. The fries were good, but after trying the curly fries (seasoned) that my coworker ordered, I would say get them over the regular. Will be back!

Dans hamburgers TLDR: Great burger joint that's a half a step up from fast food. For the food I had a double meet cheeseburger with jalapeños and the curly fries. The burger was exactly what I expected. Greasy, gooey melted American cheese, and crisp and tangy toppings. Really no major complaints with it. The curly fries were amazing. Great seasoning, and where crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. For what I paid, I was more than satisfied with them. The environment was so-so. A bit worn out and tired, and could do well with a facelift. However, the food more than made up for it. The service was also so-so. The staff where polite, but the wait for my food started to push into the "too long" territory. Nothing to stop me from returning, but don't expect to be in and out in under 30.

first time here and husband wanted a greasy good burger. It did not disappoint. We both got bacon burgers 1 with cheese minus the pickles and mustard but added the hickory sauce and the other how it comes with the hickory sauce. a large portion and definitely delicious. Onion rings a little too greasy for me but the curly fries were good. Very casual restaurant where you order and pick food up at the counter. I want to come back and eat breakfast.

Sooo good! I was craving a burger and fries and my cravings were answered! As busy as they were, I expected for it to be a long wait but it wasn't.

I got the breakfast tacos and I'm mad I didn't get more. These tacos reminded me of 2001 when I first got to Austin going to McCallum. They were great and still have that good taste. I will be definitely visiting again.

My husband and I have been going to Dan's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for almost 30 years. We love it, the food, and the staff. BUT the menu is dwindling:(. First, no more cinnamon rolls at breakfast. Now, no more hueves ranchero with the best ranchero sauce in Austin and probably all over Texas. If not the entire breakfast entree, please at least carry the ranchero sauce. We love adding it to any item on the menu. There have been many other changes, but these are the two most significant for us. The changes won't stop me from coming, but I do miss my sauce! Take care and here's hoping.

Chose this place over another based on prices & distance I had to travel to GET MY FOOD! Always a good sign, parking lot had a lot of cars parked there, but still many open slots. Another, is that the restaurant was at least halfway full, yet still enough seating available. It's a typical greasy spoon kinda joint however, people of all walks of life and age groups came in for burgers. The cashier was such a pleasant lady. The order retrieval system is a bit wonky, in that for someone like me, it's hard to hear clearly when there are other people talking. It also seems that it's the short order cook (I ordered two separate times, once to eat in & then to carry out) who hands out your order since this guy didn't check my order receipt. If I didn't ask, I wouldn't have gotten my milkshake. The burger, while tasty was a little on the greasy side. A different cook delivered my to-go order. My daughter, who is medically food sensitive, loved her burger. I also have to mention that Dan's Hamburgers onion rings were amazing! It was NOT GREASY AT ALL! When you order the large size, you do get a large quantity, compared to other burger joints where the biggest difference between order size seems to be the price. This place is definitely not a place if you want privacy though, there may be groups here for game night, and the seating is close together. I'll be back to Dan's Hamburgers and next time I hope to remember to take photos.

Whoa. Damned good burgers, Dan. Toasted bun, fresh ingredients, tasty meat, and dammit, I hate onions but those rings are the bomb. Great chocolate shakes. Love coming to Austin for family dinner with Dan's. Stopped for a 2nd visit last week and the shake machine was broken. Loved the vibe inside and the cashier was so friendly and jovial. Like setting how attentive the manager was, assisting burger assembly and then answering phones.

I have been eating at Dans since the 70s. Got sick for the first time on 11/30. Contacted mgmt they blew me off. Guess they thought I was lying? No big loss, ATX has a lot better places to grab a burger. Sorry Ed, Catherine ignored us and we will not be returning.

Just stopped by here because Waffle House was to go only and Denny's was a bust - great service- biscuits and grits about best I've had in area - plus they have blackberry Jam vs pos jelly

I love Dans! The first time I came and until today I would get the Huevos Rancheros! They are the best but unfortunately the ranchero sauce will be discontinue TODAY! Il It won't be the same anymore.

Darn good burger! This place has a very limited menu but what they offer they do well. The burgers are simple and delicious. The seating area is a bit small but they use the space well. The curly fries and onion rings are also good.

This is not a five star restaurant, but you do get a fantastic burger at a great price! So I give it a 5 cause you get exactly what you came here for. A small at $2.59 does me just fine. Add some of their fresh fried onion rings and you are good to go. The counter service is friendly and efficient. They also have table service breakfast that is cheap and tasty as well. This was out first visit to Dan's. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. My husband and I had hamburgers and onion rings. Everything was hot and exceptionally good. Shay was our server, extremely pleasant and great at promoting your business. She deserves a raise. We will be back for sure. Ty & Sheree Clark
