I love schiacciata sandwiches and they were a highlight when I was in Italy, particularly Florence. So I was excited when this place opened up serving this, and with the owner's pizza places in town which Ive liked for years, I had high hopes.
I got a sandwich for takeout. Took it home to eat at early dinner time, near closing.
Service was fine. Nothing to really comment on for takeout.
I had a few problems with the sandwich:
the bread didnt taste very fresh - maybe its because it was end of day. I wouldnt call it stale, because it was not. But it did not taste fresh out of the oven, and had lost some of its texture. A tad dense on the inside and crumbly, the outside had less crunch than I would like but it was there.
I ordered the Mortadella sandwich. The sauce was good, pistachio crumble was very light though and cant really taste it. The mortadella was WAY too salty, and this was the biggest downfall of the sandwich. The flavour profile of this sandwich was quite flat. The sauce was bland, and all you taste is salt + arugula.
The sandwiches are big, and the amount of meat is generous. The pricing is on the high side which I have no problems with if the quality of every component was excellent.
Overall this is promising. They just need to tweak their seasoning and ratios a bit. The sandwich I had is a solid 3/5, but I can see the potential in making it better. This is why I would come back, try a different time of day, different sandwich.
