Raise a Glass to International Chardonnay Day at These Bay Area Restaurants and Bars | Eater

"Sure, this alehouse in Danville’s historic downtown is most known for its in-house beers. But what people don’t know is they’ll be serving up free glasses of Harken Chardonnay on May 23. In addition, they put as much care into their food menu as their drink selection: pair your wine with the roasted beet summer salad for a double dose of the season or go for the salmon or fried chicken sandwich for something a bit heartier." - Vox Creative

I work nearby and had been wanting to stop by finally made it over and had a great time! Joshua was awesome super knowledgeable and had some spot-on recommendations. The food was amazing, and since it was a lovely day, we sat outside. The patio area felt semi-private with a roof and some screening, which made it even better. Their beer selection was impressive we even grabbed a few to-go to enjoy at home. Definitely a 10/10 experience. Grab a loved one and check it out I’ll absolutely be recommending this place!

Google
Lunch post Mt. Diablo hike. Service was prompt, food and prices decent. We drank the DBC IPA and Espresso Martini. I was kind of thrown off when the server told me the current bar tender absolutely hated making espresso martinis. I tried to order a different drink but he then tried to reassure me it was cool? That aside the vibe was pretty chill.

Stopped by on a whim and had some delicious beer and hands down one of the best burgers we’ve ever tried (the money burger) 😊

I went to Danville Brewing Co. based on a recommendation. The recommendation was that the food was good, and it was. Everything was appetizing, good presentation. This place definitely has the look. It’s too bad the service and environment wasn’t the same. The servers all seemed to have a very melancholy vibe. Very few smiles, just a little boring. I was even approached by an employee who asked me if I took a video inside the business. He then told me I made someone feel uncomfortable, although I suspect he was the uncomfortable one. If you’re looking for some solid food, not a bad choice, hopefully you’ll get a little better service than we did. Buy,Drink,Post!

Google
We had the Reuben sandwich with Cajun fries and the Bacon jam burger. They were outstanding! Great lunch!

Google
Very nice setting for indoor or outdoor dining. Good selection of food and beer. Not a beer drink not to worry they have a full bar and what looks like some signature cocktails. Had a sample flight of 6 though they have 11 of their own on tab. They also offer 8 guests beers. In the area this is worth the visit. Be sure to check in untapped. Was shocking in the middle of a conversation seeing my photo on the beer menu 🍻

Google
Sat at the bar yesterday and had a great lunch experience. A great tap list with their own beers plus a nice guest tap list. A very robust menu and a great selection of salads. The person next to me order the hamburger and I must say it looked delicious!!! I had the Caesar and loved the crispy brussels sprouts in it. I also thought it was a reasonable price point for lunch..... CHEERS!!!!

Google
Extraordinarily mediocre. The beer quality is decent enough but the food and service are severely lacking. We ordered two burgers. The burger cooked we requested medium was well done. It was sent back and return to us medium well. Close enough for us to lot send it back though both burgers were very underseasoned- something that would seem very clear if you order the ordinary cheeseburger (the specialty burgers have enough sauces and junk you may not even notice). Servers are nice but you’ll be waiting for awhile. Three visits. Three very mediocre experiences.

Yelp
Excellent You need to try very authentic and beautiful place to eat at. I will bring my friend there for sure

Yelp
Stopped by on a Friday night for some beers and snacks before dinner. The place is large with a ton of seating inside and out. We sat outside because we had the dogs with us. The service was good minus the issue of them never turning the heater in for us after we asked them multiple times as it was freezing outdoors. They have an extensive beer menu to choose from: we opted to make a flight and also share some fries and pretzel bites. Everything came out super quick. The pretzel bites were delicious. They were pillowy soft and warm. The garlic fries were crispy and so garlicky good. All of the beers we tried were good. I loved Why cant we be fiends. So good!

Yelp
Danville brewing is one of our go-to places when we want good food, friendly servers, relaxed vibe, clean, and even outdoor seating. From the tables you can see the brewing tanks albeit we have never been there where we saw staff making the brews. The appetizers and "burgers" are all good. We do t eat much beef but do like "burgers" that have fish or other ingredients. The restaurant is clean and nicely organized You can come here as a group if needed. We strongly recommend you give them a try.

Yelp
Review for happy hour only: Monday - Friday 3PM - 6PM - $6 house beers and $3coff All Wines, $7 Well Mixed Drinks and Select Starters like pretzel bites, shishito peppers, carnitas tacos, chili fries Of course we were here for Happy hour. Beers and discounted bar food. -carnitas tacos - these were ok and interestingly, odd that I came with pineapple inside the taco. - chili fries - the fries is really soggy and the cut. Chili was kind of just like dry pieces of beans overall wasn't that great we didn't even finish. - Brussel sprouts - was fried really well. Delicious - pretzel bites - was also good. A lot for 2 people though We had a really chirpy server, she was on top of it. Beer was good. Food was hit or miss. Overall, it's a chill spot for happy hour when in the area. I do like how it's happy hour in the whole restaurant versus only at the bar.

Yelp
Second visit here - had been looking forward to it and it didn't disappoint but was not quite as good as my previous visit - the beer was the saving grace! Out server was nice but I think she was a little overwhelmed with too many tables - my husband had wanted to order another drink and some wings but it took so long for anyone to come to our table, we were cold and had stacked plates so did not want to wait anymore - she was however super nice to realize we were on the cusp of happy hour and get our appetizer orders in. The IPA flight was delicious- they make some fantastic beers and it is a very good slight with 6 generous pours!! We enjoyed the Shishito peppers which were fantastic , crispy Brussels sprouts - also good and the poke nachos - these badly needed some heat and a tad more seasoning and I not sure yucca chips work as though they taste great, half of them were just too soggy to enjoy! Great beers and atmosphere, some good bites and some were a miss but would still absolutely return!

Yelp
They upped their game! Loving the food lately and service has gotten a lot better. Love the cauliflower cheddar soup too.

Yelp
Had lunch here after a hard hike up Mount Diablo. We both had the Loco Moco - grilled hamburger patty over rice, topped with mushroom gravy, scallops & a sunny side up egg. Delicious! I lived in Hawaii for 35 years and this Loco Moco was as good as any I had there. A taste of home! ;) The service was attentive & the ambience was casual & clean.

Yelp
Came to Danville Brewing to meet up with a long-time mentor over happy hour. We ordered a good number of the happy hour apps which overall was enjoyable, but not particularly memorable. These included the chicken strips, pretzel bites, shishito peppers, and the Carnita tacos. Service here was attentive throughout our meal. And there are a variety of seating options available both indoors and out. Parking is readily available at the street level as well as at several nearby public parking lots across the street.

Yelp
Came here on a whim at around 130 on a weekday. there was only one other group at a table and a few patrons at the bar. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us casually during our lunch. There was a kids menu so this would be great for families and wife enough for strollers! The place also has oddly shared bathrooms down a back hall but they were clean and well kept. The food was amazing! We literally ate all the scraps off the plates. The ingredients are top notch and you can tell the food is elevated pub goods. The beer tasting menu looked interesting with some beer flavors that seemed seasonal and artisanal. They allow you a taste before purchase so that was a plus. I will definitely come back here with family and try more menu items. Glad i found a good gastropub in the area!

Yelp
(Takeout) Got myself pretzels bites and a burrito bowl for takeout. These were recommended to me for things that would stay good for a long drive. The pretzel bites to me were a tad bit too salty however it pairs nice with their beer cheese. I like their burrito bowl, it came with carnitas that were easy to break apart. The sauce it came with was also good with a good kick to it.
google avatar

Elise C.

Yelp
We got take out for a huge group and they actually got all the orders correct! The food was really good, which is not always guaranteed when you order something to be delivered and it has to sit for a while, but everyone liked their food and they have a really diverse menu that satisfies a wide range of tastes The Brussels appetizer is so good Also, the salads are pretty legit - not a pathetic, limp lettuce situation. Definitely would order again

Kevin H.

Yelp
The food is exceptional for this level of brewery-feels farm to table without the hubris. Service is kind and perfect. Great people make great experiences. Ambience is chill and as always it's half restaurant and half your attitude. Great place!
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed our time here. We got drinks and apps. We were sat and served quickly on a Saturday evening. My drink was so aesthetically beautiful and the wings were so yummy (barely got a picture)! Will return!

Yelp
New Uchuu Magee beer is fire. Food is always consistent in quality and presentation. The staff is friendly, smart, and works together so so well: The best servers!- Rachel, Emily and Jeff- . Thank you DVB for being such a big part of our community. P.S., appreciate the outdoor, dog-friendly seating.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Considering I like Fieldwork, Almanac, Humble Sea etc., I found their WC IPA mid. We ordered 2 appetizers and sent the poke nachos back as it was poorly executed and had very little poke. Service was good Definitely has a nice pub feel with outside seating so you can bring your dog .

Yelp
How is this place only 3.9 stars? Great location in a great little downtown area with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, super clean with great decor - I always enjoy seeing the action happening, and you can see the brew set up and the team working through the glass doors. The beers are delicious, and they have a great range of styles - not just a tap list full of different IPAs. The beers we tried were fresh, flavorful, and unique. My personal favorites were the Chuck Double IPA and the Lucky 4 Leaf. Unlike other brew pubs, they also have a full bar and a nice wine list, so anyone would be happy coming in. We came in around 4 pm just for snacks and a drink, so I can only speak to the appetizers, but they surprised and delighted. The pretzel bites were very obviously fresh in-house - they looked a bit like if Kings Hawaiian were a pretzel, pull apart with a nice fluffy middle and a great crust on top. Sitting at the bar, we could see into the kitchen, and they were making everything fresh. The food coming out looked great, with a nice mix of menu items to satisfy all - and it looked vibrant and fresh. I'm looking forward to coming back again soon.

Yelp
Wow. Fantastic menu and they live up to their flavors! I haven't had shishito peppers like this anywhere. But everything from the brussel sprouts to the wings have fantastic flavors and fresh taste. Not to mention the beer selection which they have something for everyone - and the something they have is GREAT. The staff, too, is super friendly and hospitable, with a great sense of humor. On a nice day, you can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine or inside with the cool bar atmosphere. Shout out to my waitress Emily who made us some "homemade" hand wipes to use after our chicken wings! It's out of the ordinary service like that that makes this place stand out!

Yelp
We are regulars at Danville Brewing since it opened years ago. The DB beers are always good, and they bring in great finds from other breweries. Service is always attentive and personal. The menu is broad and has unique variations of regular choices. Our favorites include the brussel sprouts, shishito peppers, the burgers, and several salads. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Came here during happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices of small bites and wide selection of local draft beers. This spot was pretty busy for a weekday, but the service was very fast and friendly. We sat at the bar and we were quickly given a menu and put our orders in. My friend and I shared the buffalo wings and housemade pretzel bites from the happy hour menu. The wings came out hot, with plenty of sauce that was perfectly spicy. The person working the bar also brought out an extra ranch for each of us! The pretzel bites were delicious and so was the cheese that came with. I had the 925 blonde which was absolutely perfect. Great service and food! The AC was also pumping because it was super cool inside despite being 100+ degrees.

Yelp
After a full emotional day at a grief and loss of a loved one retreat at San Damiano, we stopped here on the way home! It was a perfect, kind, and soothing end to the day. Aside from the wonderful atmosphere, food, and beer, our waitress was the absolute best - Rachel! She was friendly, professional, kind, and very funny! She was he perfect bookend to the day! Thank you, Rachel!

Yelp
The pulled pork sandwich was terrific The lager was great The coleslaw was good and they even brought a bowl of water for my best friend

Frank V.

Yelp
Dylan Ryder gives DVB a two big Thumbs w We never have a bad meal here. The Food, atmosphere, Service & Beer is a 10 out of 10!

Dave L.

Yelp
Great food and staff, including accommodating our family members with a gluten allergy. We love DBC!

Carole B.

Yelp
Great place always bustling with energy & good vibes. Wait staff is coin's & the food is always tasty & satisfying - great mixed drinks even though beer is their strong suit

Robert S.

Yelp
Food and service were exceptional. Many choices for beer. The outdoor patio is great to visit not loud.

Yelp
Just off the Iron Horse trail so we rode our bikes and sat outside for a Friday lunch. Area was shaded and comfortable. Had a Hops Magee IPA and would order that again. Poke bowl was delicious but a bit heavy on the rice.

Yelp
This was our second time here and will not be our last! The setting is very relaxed, with indoor and outdoor seating, shelters, and heaters for chilly nights. We sat indoors, which was a bit noisier but warmer, and that was a fair trade-off. The food is very good here for a brewery, and the stainless fermentation tanks in the back of the dining areas remind you of their first purpose. But, as said, the food is very good in offerings and quality. We ordered some appetizers mainly to be shared as the main meal. These included the house made pretzel bites (DBC beer cheese, sea salt), crispy Brussels Sprouts (Garlic, chilis, parsley, grilled lemon), Shishito Peppers (Fried shishito peppers tossed in garlic and pretzel salt served with a cherry pepper aioli), and a Fig Flatbread (figs, blue cheese, mozzarella, garlic, kale, balsamic reduction). Someone also ordered a Pesto Chicken Sando (blackened chicken, pesto aioli, bell peppers, habanero jack, little gems, tomato, and ciabatta), but not for sharing! We also ordered a couple of drinks: a real cocktail and a mocktail, "Whiskey Sour." The Whiskey Sour was sour, but that was it. Not a redo. The food arrived quickly and well-paced. Our server, Joseph, did a great job coordinating everything and ensuring we had everything we needed. The food was very good - as has been mentioned! - and all items would be redos. My favorites were the Shishito peppers, some quite large, and I didn't even try the aioli; just the peppers with salt and lemon were fine. The Brussels sprouts were tasty and well-seasoned, and the fig pizza was different, and I approve. Overall, it was a great time, and I can't wait for another excuse to visit Danville at dinner time.

Yelp
I had the chance to check out Danville Brewing on a busy weekend night. The lakers and warriors were playing, so the room was packed. There is a bar area which makes watching the game much more enjoyable. If you take a peak in the back, the industrial part of the brewery is fun to look at. The staff was quick to take our order. There is seating both inside and outside as well. More importantly, their beer menu is abundant, along with other cocktails. The restroom was clean and the staff were very nice! I would come again. Parking is challenging, with the adjacent parking lot being the main area.
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Came here for lunch, great friendly staff and dog friendly. Appetizers came out very timely, waitstaff made sure our glasses were never empty. Burgers were juicy and flavorful, truffle fries were cooked to perfection. Will definitely be visiting again soon
google avatar

Miguel S.

Yelp
Nice and convenient spot with a solid selection of draft beers to choose from. The food is pretty good, and it's a great place to catch a game. Plus, the location in downtown is hard to beat!

Marc C.

Yelp
We decided to try DBC after reading rave reviews about their burgers. The restaurant has a ruggedly modern aesthetic and a lively atmosphere. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated by a friendly hostess. Our server was terrific. She was attentive and quick with suggestions based on our preferences. We started with the brussel sprouts, which were perfectly roasted and equally delicious. I enjoyed a solid, Hazy IPA while my bride had a rose that, unfortunately wasn't cold upon arrival but easily remedied by a few ice cubes. For our entrees, I had the bacon jam burger minus the red onion with a side of fries. The burger was quite tasty but a little under-sized for the price and quite greasy. I felt the fries were overcooked while my better half (who prefers crispy fries) actually felt the opposite . My wife initially ordered the chicken sesame wonton salad but switched to a money burger because the salad was on the warm side (the portion also seemed underwhelming to me). Like my burger, hers was also very greasy. In sum, we loved the place, the staff and our appetizers and liked the beverages but were nonplused by our entrees.

Caitlyn M.

Yelp
Every single time i'm in the area I always make time to stop by Danville Brewing. I always try something new on menu and everything is to die for! There is a wide option of food, amazing beer, and even delicious cocktails if you aren't an ale lover! Yesterday I had the pretzel bites (an absolute must), fig bread, ahi nachos, and beer battered fish and chips with the lavender cocktail and a 925 blonde. My friend had an IPA recommended by a worker who said it was his favorite, the beercan beach, which was also amazing. Along with great eats and drinks the service is always on point and everyone is so friendly! I can't recommend this place enough!

John D.

Yelp
Amazing food, incredible drinks, and superb service. We had the Ahi poke nachos, the pretzel bites, and the flatbread. The fish and chips were also very good.
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
Acceptable brewpub experience. Decent beer. Clean dining area. Service was impersonal but efficient. Food was acceptable quality for price point. Not a destination but good option in area.

Luis G.

Yelp
Food was very good! The wings are top notch!!! Service can be slow but it's because they get busy that's just how good the police is!!! Great space lots of seating inside but the real gem is sitting outside!!!!

Yelp
Came to order off of the happy (hoppy) hour menu at around 3pm on a weekday. We were able to choose our own seating and sat at the bar. The happy hour menu has a few food items to choose from, and we went with the beer cheese pretzel bites and the buffalo chicken tenders. Additionally, we got the 925 Blonde. The beer cheese pretzel bites were soft and fluffy, and an excellent snack to pair with beer. The beer cheese was rich yet light and had a very well rounded flavor. The buffalo chicken tenders were more like tiny chicken strips, though I enjoyed the size of the chicken. The sauce was zesty and flavorful, and the ranch was house-made. The chicken was served with cucumber slices, which was a nice step up from celery. The 925 Blonde was a pleasant blonde ale, though after ordering, I wish I had taken a closer look at the menu as they have many enticing beers. For example, the Diablo Island is a tiki inspired IPA, the moral flexible is a hazy pale ale with tropical fruit, and the sickbay pineapple which is a wine barrel aged Belgian beer. I will definitely be back to Danville brewing the next time I am in the area, and I am looking forward to trying their other beers. As their wall art states, WE WANT BEER!
google avatar

Foodie B.

Yelp
Sorry to post this, but food made us both so so sick!!! Had the ahi appetizer, bacon jam burger and regular burger and we were up all night with issues from the food. We have been here in the past and it just seems to keep going downhill. Posting so others are aware. The server even took off the ahi after realizing we only ate one bite... then the burgers made us sick after we got home... wont be back.
google avatar

Jo F.

Yelp
Superb service from Josh and fantastic food along with a very pleasant outdoor, dog-friendly setting. As world travelers, we long ago, decided that the best hamburgers are made in the United States. But now, we will narrow it down to Danville, California, i.e. at the Danville brewery. Try the bacon jam burger!
google avatar

Slava C.

Yelp
Fun place with a great variety of tap beers to choose from from light and classy to double IPAs. Wii ok I'll highly recommend Station 31 for those wanna try something new in beers. Food wise place has a dissent selection of appetizers, salads, bowls and dinners from which can point out to Salmon quinoa bowl at $20 and another good one was a Hangar steak at $26. Cool and fun service by Rachael made our time at the place even more fun, welcoming and pleasant. Thank you Rachael and Danville Brewing for pleasant night out.

Yelp
We had a very enjoyable experience here! My friend and I split a money burger and fried chicken sandwich so we could each try them both. They were both so tasty! We did order the burger medium and it came medium well, no biggie for us. It was still tasty, loaded with flavor. The fried chicken sandwich was also good, crispy and not dry, yummy sauce. Truffle fries were fire as well. Crispy edges, soft middle, great taste. Our waiter was super friendly and a joy to talk to. The ambiance inside is a little loud but lively, it's clean, and there are tv's with games showing. Outside looked nice too, there are heaters. Prices are fair, and great location. Would recommend!
google avatar

Caren B.

Yelp
The food and service were great. I was pleased with the great selection of items to choose from, definitely something for everyone. My one issue was there was way too much Sriracha sauce on the poke bowl, it completely took over the taste of the dish. I would order it again but ask for the Sriracha sauce on the side. A little goes a long way. Our server was great, very attentive and I liked the option of indoor or outdoor seating.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
The food is all very good and if you're craving a burger, they have great options. I also think they do a great job with their fish, which is hard to find at a burger joint. They have pretty good cocktails, and of course, all their own brewed beers! Our server was super nice, but the service was a little bit slow. If you like beer, the ambience is very house brewed.
google avatar

Jaime N.

Yelp
Fantastic lunch at Danville Brewing today!! Food is always good but today gets an extra shout out to our server, Jeff- he was simply the best!!!

Yelp
Changing my rating to 5 stars. I've been here a bunch of times this year and the service has been solid. This is my go-to spot whenever I'm looking for comfort food or craving a burger. Burgers 10/10: Always juicy and flavorful, with great ingredients and buns. Fries 10/10: They have the best fries in town. Crispy outside without being hard, perfectly soft on the inside, and not oily at all. I'm talking about their regular fries, but their garlic parmesan fries are great too. Fish & Chips: 6/10 The fish tastes good, but the two times I've ordered it, it's been pretty oily. Maybe I just had bad luck as I rarely order them. House beers: 9/10 They have some great house beers. 925 Blonde, Chux Dipa, and their Danville pilsner are all great.

Lani M.

Yelp
Came here today for lunch. I was craving the hanger streak,, decided order it along with a side of Brussel sprouts, asked for my steak medium the first three slices were good as I got to the middle and end those pieces were not so medium. They were very over cooked and super dry and there wasn't enough chimichurri, I was disappointed. I hate sending food back and I was super hungry, I was also in a rush so I just kept eating. The Brussel sprouts were very flavorless just very bland, they could've used some caramelization or flavor. Wish it would've been a better experience. Service: I guess if you're not a regular or local you don't get the best of the staff. That's all I will say about that. I have more but don't want to make it a big deal of it. What we paid. $100 for two meals, two beers, a shot of mezcal, and a sparkling water, and one side.

Yelp
I went here with a couple of my friends last week, and we had the best time! The food was amazing, I got the money burger and it was probably one of the best burgers I've had in my life. The bacon on the burger is incredible. The beer is also really good, I got a CHUX which I really enjoyed, it reminded me of Pliny the Elder. My friends both got a 925 blonde and they also really enjoyed their beers. The service was good and everyone was friendly. They keep in nice and cool inside which is nice for the hot summer days. Can't wait to come back soon!

Yelp
Chill atmosphere, good food and reasonable prices. I just got a salad but the rest of the food I saw others order smelled pretty good. I would come back here

Yelp
A very nice atmosphere awaits you. They had very attentive servers. There were very good beer selections.
