First off, this review is for the food only; not the service. My server, Gabriella, was an absolute delight and was very friendly and attentive. If not for her stellar service, the rating would be lower.
I ordered the duck pastilla and the beet salad. The beet salad with goat cheese was very good; not overdressed and very tasty. The duck pastilla came to the table looking very appetizing, but once I cut into it, the phyllo on the inside was completely raw. My waitress apologized profusely, as well as someone who I think may have been the manager, and they said they would remake the dish.
Phyllo requires adequate time to bake so that it is crispy. It has to be layered with butter and baked for a sufficient amount of time so that the layers of phyllo cook and crisp up. So when the replacement entree arrived just 5 minutes later, it could not have possibly been cooked, and sure enough, raw phyllo again.
At that point, I gave up and ordered another entree, this time falafel, and again, crispy on the outside, but raw inside. The same with the baklava dessert; crisp outer layer and inner layer of phyllo was undercooked.
After having to send my entree back twice, I didn't have the heart to ask my waitress to send yet another meal back to the kitchen, because I know she felt really bad about it.
I will add that they allowed me to order from the dinner menu despite the fact that they were still offering the lunch menu. They simply may not have been prepared to serve a dinner entree, and had they communicated that to me, I would have happily ordered from the lunch menu.
Since I was dining quite early, the restaurant was nearly empty, so I'm assuming that there should have been plenty of time to prepare a properly-cooked meal.
I don't know how a Mediterranean restaurant could not know how to cook phyllo, falafel, and baklava, but it was an extremely disappointing experience. Maybe I came on an off night, but based on this visit, I can't recommend this restaurant at this time.
