Lunch today, was one of the first customers there. Service was great, fast and friendly. Had a Darbys burger and fries and was delicious. The star today though, was Baked Jarlsberg!!! It was sooooo good! I would love to stay in town a little longer just so I can go back and have it again! Highly recommended!

Google
This was a fun find as we were passing through Belfast. The clam chowder was perfect, I ordered a cup, but then ordered a bowl after finishing the cup. Our waitress was awesome, so nice and good at her job. She made it a great experience. Our family also thought it was super cool that her mom had been a waitress there when she was a kid.

Google
This was a Monday night. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was fair at best. The mac and cheese tasted like there wasn't enough cheese - milky. The haddock scampi looked and tasted more like plain baked sole to me. Not good choices for a Monday night.

I've been eating at Darbys for many year's, and you can't get more delicious home cooking in the area hand's down! The staff is giving hard working folks that I feel fortunate to call friends, that I hold dear. And before ending this ode I happily feel that Kim needs to be called out as the an Amazing pastry chef! So... Don't fill up. Save space for any of Kim's delightful creations! 😊

Delicious drinks and food. Best Pad Thai in town.

I ordered the chicken chili w/cashews and cornbread. Very good. For some reason, I thought this would be a white chili, but its red& still happy with it. Mr Right got the Lobster roll, hot with butter on the side. One of the few that carries Coke products!

Google
Attempted to go to a different place, but it was so crowded, I could not make it to the bar. Walked a little bit further and found Darby's! Sat immediately at the bar and ordered my drinks and a snack. Bartender was very attentive. Everything was great! Likely will go back again on this trip.

Google
Delicious cornbread with blueberry maple butter. Tried a crab melt was packed full of crab and the homemade bread was fantastic. Dessert was the toffee brownie sundae, it's very rich, perfect for sharing. Good portions for the price! Decor was fun and visually entertaining. Would highly recommend for lunch while visiting in Belfast.

Yelp
pad thai from the microwave? not sure but it was sweet sweet and i didn't want to eat it great service and comfortable ambiance too bad

Nic S.

Yelp
Pad thai was okay, nothing special. Appetizer was good. It is just tired inside-like a bar who had it's heyday 20 years ago and never bothered to update since. The booths need sprucing up, the ceiling is falling apart in places and it is uninviting. For an area staple, it could use some love.

Michelle O.

Yelp
Right next door from the Grump and Sunshine book shop that we were at an event at! This establishment totally had that Irish pub vibe! Staff was very friendly and was very helpful with helping me make a decision. The problem with pub menus? Too many options!! The club sandwich was delicious and loaded with turkey, bacon and tomato! The fries!! Yummy! Let talk dessert!! Oh my goodness, the Scottish toffee pudding was ridiculous! I will make the 2 hr drive back just for that!!

Kayla J.

Yelp
First..the staff were amazing and the bartender was a blast!!! Second..the drinks (we had extra dirty martinis and wine) were perfect. Lastly..the food was holy sh*t phenomenal! We had clam chowder and meatball vegetable soup. Their famous baked Jarlsberg as an app. (Best thing ever) and then the crab meat sandwich and Cobb salad. 10/10!!! If we didn't live in Wisconsin we would come more often! Thanks guys!

Yelp
I have been coming to Darby's for years. I said to the server yesterday, there are no bad meals here. Yesterday I had the zucchini melt with grilled chicken and cole slaw and it was . My companion had the fried haddock and fries and the serving size was HUGE! We came in at 3pm, were seated promptly. Took a little while to get a server, but once we did she was very attentive! The hostess was nice enough to give us a 6 top in the corner to accommodate our two service dogs in training. It's my go to restaurant when I am in Belfast!

Teagan F.

Yelp
Great little restaurant! Outdoor seating was pleasant and staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, I had the Darby's Burger (pub style) and it was excellent! The menu has great variety and a little something for everyone.

Yelp
Planned to have lunch at a restaurant we had tried 2 years ago but they were closed so we went with Darbys based on a suggestion. We each had the haddock sandwiches and they were wonderful. Service was great and restaurant is nice inside. After lunch a gentleman stopped me on the street and asked if I was local. Said no to which he asked if I knew any good restaurants. Told him we had just finished lunch and sent him to Darbys.

Paula A.

Yelp
We stopped in around 7 on Thursday night. There was a 25 min wait and the family was bustling. They seemed short staffed on wait service but all the servers were working hard to serve everyone timely. The food was a mixed bag. The butternut squash soup was excellent. Baked haddock was dry. We got two orders for our table both were the same. The fried haddock was lightly breaded and good. Red potato mash wasn't as good as I expected. We got the cornbread appetizer and that was delicious. Would I go again. Maybe but not my first choice for a fish dish.

Larry H.

Yelp
The best fried clams! Also very competitive price. Portions are large which doesn't leave much room for the awesome desserts. Try to eat in the older section which has a real nice vibe. Sometimes the time to be seated can seem like longer than it should be.

RoseMarie Y.

Yelp
The atmosphere is Cozy,Rustic & Comfortable! My husband and I enjoyed our dinner, The ingredients were fresh and delicious. Our waitress was welcoming and service was prompt and friendly.

Olivia S.

Yelp
Decided to give Darby's a try tonight. It's decent, but not exactly what I was expecting based on the good reviews. Ordered the sweet potato fries to start, and for a $7 bowl of fries, they could at least season them or have a sauce that actually goes with them. Who eats sweet potato fries with ketchup? The fries themselves were good, but no sauces available to go with them and they had no salt/seasoning. For my entree I got the baked haddock with fries. The fish was "seasoned" with a sprinkle of paprika and a sneeze's worth of parsley. The fries, also seasoned with only thoughts and prayers, were stewing in the nondescript fish juices, soggy and off tasting. My partner got the crab melt, no complaints from him. Quality seems hit and miss overall. You might order something good. If they figured out how to season their food, it'd actually be really good. They've got technique down, but flavor is elusive. At least the almost empty salt shaker on your table will have your back for a few bites. We're not coming back.

Yelp
Great food. Nice and friendly staff. Typical pub atmosphere. Great place to stop when traveling

Christine D.

Yelp
I stopped here for lunch on a Monday, on the recommendation of a friend. I was there early, about 11:30. They got busy very quickly. Friend recommended the Buddha Bowl (Noodle soup, with veg and chicken in it.) It was delicious! I would get it again. While I was waiting for the bowl, I ordered the cornbread because it sounded great - and it did not disappoint. I ordered another for takeaway. I wish I asked for one extra blueberry butter in the takeaway order. Lemonade was great - not too sugary or pulpy. Overall delicious!!! I hope to visit again next time I am traveling north.

Bruce K.

Yelp
Credit for today's visit goes to Luke at the National Car Rental in the PWM airport who said that we MUST go to Darby's if we're heading north. So here we are. Greeted and seated immediately, we had a comfortable booth. The menu is quite wide but not much for keto so I decided that I'm on vacation and went for the mac & cheese. It was okay but after the first two or three bites, it just went bland. Plenty hot and lots of it, just not much for flavor. It needs some mustard in there to give it some kick. Or some bacon. There we go. My brother had the chicken chili with cashews and his was fab. I wouldn't have thought to add cashews but wow, it was amazing and I spend the meal regretting my decision. It's a comfy eatery with good service and friendly folks. A fine drinking and eating establishment. [Review 14849 overall, 351 of 2021, number 35 in Maine.]

Yelp
Even though we're fairly local, we went for the first time for lunch with friends. We shared the cornbread with maple-blueberry butter. Love! The cornbread was the way I like it, fluffy and a bit sweet. The butter was amazing! My husband really enjoyed his cup of clam chowder. The Cobb salad was really good. I HIGHLY recommend trying the garlic-feta dressing. Hubby had the fish and chips and our friends has the fish sandwich and the All American burger. Lots of 'yums' and empty plates by all but me (took the rest of my salad home because it was big). The atmosphere was cozy and unpretentious, but I'd recommend dressing biz-casual for dinner. We'll definitely be going back. After reading other reviews from months ago, I wanted to add that we and another party (6 people at the hostess stand) waited a minimum of 3+ minutes (long enough to strike up conversation w/ the other party) before we were approached even though we know staff saw us walk in. They were busy, but even a brief acknowledgement would've been appreciated. They redeemed themselves once we were in the dining room, as we were well attended to by friendly staff.

Aimee M.

Yelp
We have eaten here for years. And, for the first time, I ordered take-out. We tried to make it easy on staff by ordering two of the same thing; the Fiesta Salad. I went in to pick it up - they told me 15 minutes - . When I picked up the bag....I thought, oh no, because the bag was so light. I drove home with the take out. When we took out the containers - and removed the lids, it was as I feared; very little food. We paid $35 - for this take out, and I left the rest of the $40 for a tip! The portions were so incredibly small :( and the meal was incredibly expensive - so all that equals disappointment. So, be fair warned. We have so few really good places to eat here in Belfast that we often have to settle - . Please view the photos. You can see that the aluminum container wasn't even filled half way, so scant. I don't know if they made a single portion and then split it into two... ? lol. That is my only guess and that's the equivalent of what it appears to be, half portions, of what they might normally serve in the restaurant itself.

Yelp
Update to all the previous. -- still amazing. Buddha Bowl still my go to but fish tacos and Thai wonderful. Service is small town perfect. Love this place and only get up here about once a year but drive an hour to do it. See you again!

Yelp
Delicious lunch & friendly service. Our party of 4 agreed it was the best meal of our trip, and we hadn't had a bad meal all week. First, water came out right away when we were seated. Our drinks (tea & soda) were kept filled. We'd read about the cornbread, so started with that and it was warm with the butter & blueberry butter soft. Two had the peeky-toe crab sandwiches, cole slaw, fries - all good. Our friend said the pulled pork sandwich (generous size) was The Best Sandwich she'd ever eaten. The sweet potato & black bean burrito also rated 2 thumbs up. Then after seeing the dessert menu, it was hard to decide between bread pudding, creme brulee, cheesecake & more(!) We finally decided on the lemon cheesecake with lemon curd & berries, & altho we didn't think we 'had room for' dessert, we polished off two slices of it. It was delicious & the curd was delicious (you can never have too much curd on a dessert)! This is now our #1 choice for the Belfast/Searsport area.

Yelp
After my first visit I wanted to make sure I got my thoughts down quickly so I've only been outside of the restaurant for about 10 minutes at this point. The history of this location is certainly impressive, going back to 1860. There are some very definite antiquity type things about it that give it ambience and class. I gather that after 1940, it finally changed hands, and I'm not sure who owns it now; but it's pretty obvious that they have a busy staff. The front end wasn't getting a lot of attention, but the dining area was. In some cases, I have taken pictures of the food but in this case I did not. The type of salad that was brought to the table and the standard BLT and fries do not need a lot of attention. They were basically what you would've expected. Considering not too many people get up to Belfast Maine these days, I think it's great that the restaurant as old as this one, is still getting a steady flow of customers. I only gave it four stars because of the wait at the front end, and the time it took to get the food to the table. Otherwise it's five stars "all day long!"

Michelle L.

Yelp
This place has amazing specials. Their incredible meatball sub (only on specials) totally sold me on Darby's. Today I noticed a lobster roll on their special so I asked if they could add lobster to their zucchini melt and they said yes. They make their own bread so this combo reminded me of a puff pastry lobster newberg my Aunt made like 50 years ago. It was amazing. They have this soup that is like Italian wedding soup, only better. It tasted just like a soup my Memere made (she was from Gatsby in Quebec). If you want a Maine authentic meal that is mind blowingly excellet - come here. I understand this place started in 1835 - its obvious why they have been in business so long.

Yelp
I'm from out of town. This restaurant has a very eclectic menu ranging from American, Mexican, Chinese, and Thai--maybe even French too. Everything was very tasty, no complaints. The cornbread with blueberry butter was very good as well as the clam chowder. I'm giving it three stars because it didn't blow my socks off--averagely good food.

Jon N.

Yelp
Solid choice! Quirky pub menu with fish and chips, crab melts, enchiladas and even pad thai! What!? All good and other options if none of those impress. Good beers; wines and well drinks are good and a great value!

Liz W.

Yelp
Absolutely EVERYTHING is 100% consistent here! Great food, great staff and great atmosphere. Sadly I only have photos of drinks to share. This is a go to for us when I just need someone else to cook and know that I'll get what I expect. Tonight we had, Fried Pot Stickers, Mac and Cheese, side salad with Garlic Feta Dressing, Chicken Enchilada and the Bread Pudding with Toffee for dessert. It was delicious, I didn't get the name of our waitress but she was so bubbly, helpful, attentive and appeared to be enjoying her job even while they were busy and the hostess was the same, even helping to clear tables and support waitstaff. Top notch establishment all around!

Lisa W.

Yelp
Good pub food. I got the chili with the cashews. It was pretty good. The hand cut fries for me were the star of this place. I also enjoyed the lobster ale. Inside is massive just wish it was a little bit cuter. So much potential.

Adam S.

Yelp
Had to double check my geography and make sure we weren't in Belfast Ireland upon entering this classic pub. Live music, a vibrant crowd, classic beers, big bowls of chowder for a brisk evening... pretty much all you could ask for a spot like this. We weren't super hungry, but wanted to get a chowder fix that we can't find back home in the midwest. This big bowl was piping hot and flavorful -- overall pretty good flavor, not over the top. We also had some fries for the table because you try telling my two year old we're NOT getting fries! While nothing was over-the-top spectacular, it was all very good and an enjoyable, cozy evening in a classic, wood-lined pub. Casual, easy to get in even though it was poppin', and will be a good memory when thinking back on our trip here.

J V.

Yelp
Went in for lunch. Food and food service were good. Had Fish and Chips, clam chowder and pad Thai. Only ding is the bottom of the bear glass had left over something from not being cleaned. Would return and make sure I asked for a clean glass.

Michalie L.

Yelp
I've been here at least 5 times over the past 5 years, every time the food is pretty tasty, the staff are friendly and helpful, the place is clean and the vibe is warm and welcoming. I specifically enjoy their spinach & artichoke dip appetizer, I order it every time! Anyone I have brought with me so far has enjoyed it.

Jen L.

Yelp
Like coming home. Warm and welcoming. Excellent menu and food never disappoints. Owners run a great spot. Gem of Belfast!

Cassian A.

Yelp
Darby's is my favorite restaurant in Belfast! Amazing atmosphere, kinda reminds me of the show CHEERS! Jody was the bartender she knows the menu and all the drinks. Her customer service skills are above all! I had amazing meal the prime rib was a A+. Glad I only live 5 minute walk away! If you haven't been please go!

Brian W.

Yelp
This place is OLD SCHOOL. I used to go here 35 years ago with my first girlfriend, and back then it was a destination spot. These days it is not that but it's still a solid spot with good food, and a fun little bar.

Helen W.

Yelp
Darby's has good quality eats, friendly staff members, and an interesting atmosphere. Took a minute to get a seat, but it was worth the wait since our food came quickly and was delish! Side note: they use cloth napkins, which I think is fantastic!

Kenneth K.

Yelp
Tried a lot of different things, including daily specials. I was mixed on a lot of it. The chowder tasted fine, but it was way too thick, like someone had dropped too much cornstarch inside. Popcorn shrimp had no seasoning, but maybe that's what the tartar and marinara sauces are for, and sure, they go down fine after a dunk. The cornbread...was store-bought. The haddock-shrimp scampi had some overcooked linguine, and the sauce was turning into butter before my eyes, but the haddock itself was just right, not too fishy. The one thing I'm all positive on is the chili--not overcooked, came nice and hot with cheese and sour cream melting over it.

Emily S.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at this restaurant with our family of 4 (two adults and two children, 11 & 13.) There was something for everyone and the atmosphere was neat. Overall we liked this restaurant the best in Belfast and would go back. The service was also good.

Ruth C.

Yelp
We had an early birthday dinner on 3/21/21. Since I am a damn good baker and it was my birthday we decided to take a couple of pieces of carrot cake to go. You can't bake your own birthday cake. Since we didn't see the menu we had no idea of the price, and We were expecting about $5 a slice. $8! ...........8 dollars....this cake better be good. Not so much. Below to average cake, overwhelming spice ,overly sweet gloppy frosting, and peanuts. Peanuts?? Peanuts? No, just no. We were expecting a really good cake since those around us were raving about it. Not so much I will forever and always from this day forward bake my own birthday cake. The potstickers were good.

Emma B.

Yelp
Go to Maine and have the pad Thai before lobster. It's that good. Staff, atmosphere, food, they have nailed all three.

Marie A.

Yelp
Cool neighborhood spot, with good food and an eclectic menu. Make a reservation two days before or you'll have a long wait. Good burger, excellent fries. Buddha bowl was nice and spicy but a touch too sweet. The best thing we had was the Scottish toffee cake. AMA ing and good to share. Staff was a bit harried but friendly.

Chris M.

Yelp
Nice local restaurant and bar, excellent service. Wide variety on menu. Bar rail, ample seating indoor and out

Barbara T.

Yelp
My husband and I ate lunch here for the first time and were very pleased with our experience. We started with deep fried hen-of-the-woods mushrooms with sriracha-honey dipping sauce. I had the peeky toe crab roll with fries and my husband enjoyed his steak and mushroom sub. (I believe that all our food was off the daily specials menu.)The service was quick and attentive and the prices were reasonable. I really liked looking at the beautiful tin ceiling and old bar. We will definitely eat here again.

Brad S.

Yelp
This pub is quaint and the service was good. we ordered a lobster roll for 20$ and there couldn't have been 3 ounces of lobster on it. It was served on a traditional lobster roll and you couldn't even see the lobster at the top of the bun! This is a no-goer!

Round T.

Yelp
Darby's is a nice little pub but lacks food quality. The service is always excellent, but the food is not. The last time we were there, we ordered a Taco fiesta salad, vegetarian and it came out in like 2 minutes with terrible ingredients and chicken on it. When the salad was replaced, it came out quickly again and was greasy. The beans were flavorless and uncooked and it was inedible for me. It's one of those places that you want to go back to, but you're just afraid to order anything.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
Good food options and tasty food located in Belfast ME. Our server was attentive, food options were plenty to chose from for our table of 5. All was well received and enjoyed at our table. Give this place a try while in the area... also downtown stores are a great place to check out while there.

Aimee M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful meal last night. We reserved an outside table and the service was great, food delicious, everything came out hot and the quantity...well, it was your typical American serving (too much). I took half of my meal home. The only reason I held back one star is that their profile via the website talks about locally sourced food when possible... but there is no other mention of locally sourced ingredients after that statement, i.e. starred or otherwise identified items on the menu, so you really don't know how much, as a patron, we are supporting local farmers. I have a suspicion it's not much or wouldn't they be talking it up? Like the restaurant across the street that actually has local food. And you can tell the difference. But still good. We had a gift certificate for $50 and it covered our meal.

Bill P.

Yelp
We walked in not knowing what to expect. We liked the decor, the woman playing the piano as we were being seated was very enjoyable & a pleasant surprise. We were looking for a break from lobster rolls. The steak tid bits were excellent along with the baked potato & salad! My wife had the soup of the day which was beef stew. That was also very tasty. We couldn't resist having lobster so we had the lobster Mac-n-cheese appetizer which was really good. We had a super friendly waitress named Meaghan.

T B.

Yelp
Enjoyed lunch. Great straightforward burger on a nicely grilled bun. Small bowl of chowder was thick and flavorful and the Popcorn Parmesan Shrimp hit the spot. The kids enjoyed a great fish-n-chips and Mac-n-Cheese. Love the old building and plenty of vintage decor. They were busy and still provided kind service and attention

David B.

Yelp
I've eaten here for years. The prices keep going up and the quality keeps going down. Today we ate here for lunch. I am a celiac which always limited my choices, but I could work around it with substitutions. However, when I ordered chicken chili with chips instead of a tortilla, I was served chips that had been fried in the same oil as all their breaded foods making it uneatable. My food and the spaghetti special my husband had were both tepid and sent back. They were returned reheated. When I told the waitress who made no accommodation on the bill for the poor food, she(Nicky), turned on me to say that I always complain about the food (untrue) and that she would never wait on me again. Awful food and service. Nicky is right since I will never return. Not when The Neighborhood in the next block is friendly, has many gluten free options and one where one is made to feel welcome.

Philip H.

Yelp
Solid restaurant open 7 days per week. Been going there for 15 years. Food is good quality. I love the pad thai and buddha bowls. Well prepared choose your heat level..too much to eat! Staff very friendly and accommodating. Good Covid practices- tables sanitized, staff wear masks and patrons masks to table.

Mike B.

Yelp
Great Buddha Bowl. 4 of us all got one and with different levels of spice the flavors change a bit. All tasty!

Chris C.

Yelp
Darby's is a nice casual spot in downtown Belfast. Belfast is a great town, and has a lot of nice spots like this. Everyone was super friendly and very casual. Got there on the earlier side, but the place filled up within an hour or so. I liked the menu. Variations from Korea. to New Orleans to Maine seafood

Kristen M.

Yelp
Such an eclectic menu. There is something for everyone and all the dishes our party tried were incredible. Highly recommend! And the service was efficient and amiable!
