Dark & Light Coffee

A nice coffee shop in the area with strong coffee. They do have a vegan croissant available.

A great option for the morning coffee rush hour. They’re super efficient and serve up delicious coffee.

I used to enjoy coming to Dark and Light, but the way I’ve been treated over something so minor has made it uncomfortable to return. There’s a public outdoor space directly next to the café — open, accessible, and not under scaffolding (despite that being used as an excuse). Ironically, while I was calmly sitting adjacent to the café, a staff member stood under the scaffolding to tell me I’d be banned if I did it again. It’s not private property — people often sit on the steps — so I’m not sure if it’s about "owning" a particular chair or simply a weird power move. I’ve only ever stood or sat there quietly with a coffee to avoid the heavy cigarette smoke out front. I was once asked not to set up a table, which I fully respected and have never done again. Despite that, a staff member named Matt previously told me to move “because I said so,” which felt rude and unnecessary. Management later apologised and confirmed he’d be leaving the business. Today, after waiting for a seat, I briefly sat on one of their chairs in the same public space — only to be threatened again, this time by a staff member named Theo, who said I’d be refused service if I did it again. To be clear: it is perfectly legal to stand or sit in a public space, especially when not obstructing anything. Wanting to enjoy a coffee away from clouds of smoke shouldn’t be a source of drama. The coffee is good, but the way some staff handle situations like this feels petty and overblown.

Best coffee, food and atmosphere in the area alongside Milk Beach. The coffee is top notch and that’s coming from a coffee snob Australian. They serve awesome sandwiches and snacks plus the people who work there are lovely and take pride in their work so you always get the best.

Best coffee in Queens Park! Can’t recommend enough coming here for always a delicious full body coffee and a warm friendly welcome from all the staff who work there. We have been regulars since they opened and it’s our only local we go to. We don’t even need to say our coffee order as they know us too well, makes you feel special😃 Always a positive atmosphere, consistent with their coffee quality and everyone working there is such a pleasure to chat to. Large space to work on your laptop and the staff LOVE all animal customers in their shop.

Pistachio pain au chocolat was delicious, nice coffee, and friendly staff. If I had 1 negative, it would be that there isn't enough seating outside. Other than that, it was lovely.

This is a great coffee shop. Friendly staff with a good atmosphere. The only drawback is the layout which can result in congestion and slightly slow service at peak times. The coffee however compensated for all that.

Finally got around to trying out this new local cafe and I have to say I'm super impressed. Really happy to have such good matcha, so nearby. Not many places do a decent matcha. They also use the estate dairy milk so a plus. The parents were also very impressed with the coffee, which is high praise. Croissant was lovely and soft, yet flakey on the outside. Quite big so good value for money and a bonus is they do 50% off pastry after 3. Staff were really lovely and the space feels lovely and light. love the addition of all the plants for sale. Will be my new local spot.
