I hosted my birthday celebration at Darrin’s Lounge. While the space itself was okay, several operational issues affected the overall experience.
From the start, bartenders required customers to leave their credit cards behind the bar, which I found inappropriate. My father opened a tab for my birthday. Money was not an issue at all, as this was a celebration and he intended to cover drinks. The concern was that the final amount charged did not reflect what I observed being ordered or consumed, as drinks were added for people bartenders assumed were part of our group, without clear confirmation.
Later, my fiancé ordered a drink and his card was also held. A bartender stated she needed to keep it and contact her boss because his drink had been mistakenly added to another patron’s tab. That error did not justify holding his card. He canceled the order, and I requested his card back.
Additionally, I was directed to set up catered food in an area where mouse glue traps were visible on the floor, which is not appropriate in a food-serving area.
Overall, the concern was not cost, but lack of transparency, questionable card-handling practices, and cleanliness issues. These factors prevented the experience from meeting expectations, and I will not be returning.
