AI Won’t Make Yelp’s Restaurant Recommendations Any Better | Eater

"Yelp's example summary for this diner emphasizes its cheeseburgers and affordability—observations so obvious they illustrate how short, AI-generated summaries can be redundant and offer little meaningful guidance beyond restating the obvious." - Jaya Saxena

Google
Great fried seafood here! Locally owned and run restaurant in rural part of the state. No frills here. But the food is good.

We just tried this this place on the recommendation of some friends. Can't wait to go back! We had a plate of onion rings that were crunchy and delicious. My husband had the BBQ plate and loved it. I had the grilled chicken salad and the owners house made dressing. That dressing is the bomb! I dipped onion rings in it and used it on my salad, then when my sales was gone I squirted it on the crackers I had. Would have tried their strawberry cobbler but we were too full. Going back very soon!

Google
Nice, simple mom and pop place with great fresh made food. The place was very clean and we got wonderful down home friendly service. I regret not getting her name but she was the best!!

DARWIN’S CATERING is amazing. Darwin himself and his staff of Jenifer’s ( had 2 ladies named Jenifer) and the rest of the staff are GREAT. Very professional, very knowledgeable, very friendly. The food was fantastic and hot which can be unusual for 150+ people. We were already customers of Darwin’s and I found out they were catering my nieces wedding. I was a HAPPY girl. They have REAL food not just pre boxed, slapped together quick meals. It actually DOWN HOME cooking. I’m a country girl and loved the menu. Beef tips, gravy, onions and peppers, chicken breast , seasoned PERFECTLY, green beans, salad, yeast rolls, stewed baby red potatoes. I could have hid in the corner with the whole tray of those. lol I’m sorry I didn’t take pictures of the buffet line but I was busy getting my food. They served to us and never complained about being there half the night. Go enjoy their restaurant too. Great food, great prices. I love people telling me about a local small business and as they say, hole in the wall restaurants. Because they STILL CARE ABOUT THE QUALITY, TASTE, SELECTION, PRICE, SERVICE AND THE CUSTOMER. LOVE DARWINS. SEE YALL SOON.

Stopped in one day in between showings and had a bite to eat. It's one of those southern cooking restaurants. Food made from scratch. Mouth watering good. I couldn't eat it all. Southern portions. I had to take the rest home for leftovers the next day. Very, very good. I will be back!

Google
Great meat plus three restaurant. True home style cooking. Chicken pie was delicious. Mac and cheese was outstanding and the potato salad had a lot of flavor. You can't go wrong stopping here.

Yelp
My favorite place in the area. Fried oysters are fantastic but their chicken salad is honestly the best I have ever had! Good food and better people.

Yelp
This is a very small town vibe southern style cafe. It was my first visit, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I walked in with my brother and the cashier said hello, but didn't tell us to sit down or to wait for her so we just stood awkwardly until we received direction. About 5 mins later, she finished with the customer checking out, and told us we could just go sit anywhere. There are no menus passed out, there are just specials written on a chalkboard. Apparently, there are other items available because I witnessed people ordering them, but I didn't see any paper menus, so I felt like I had to order from the specials. The Friday special was beef tips. Not something I'd normally go for, I'm not sure if I've ever even tried them before. Our waitress asked how I wanted them cooked so I said medium rare. They came with a choice of mushroom gravy or peppers and onions. We both chose mushroom gravy. Our food was taking a while to come out. Long enough to wonder if we were forgotten, as we watched other patrons come and go and pickup orders going out the door. She eventually came back and informed us that they were out of mushroom gravy, but we could do peppers and onions instead. We said that was fine. A few more minutes went by and they finally brought our food out. No peppers or onions. The beef tips definitely were not med-or med rare, but they were still good and most of the pieces were tender, although they were all different sizes so some were overcooked. Still a great flavor to them and the sides were yummy. Our waitress came back to say they were working on the peppers and onions. By the time she came back the second time, we'd finished eating our food. She apologized that no one brought them out to us. Oh well. The food was good enough that I'd come back, but be aware you might be waiting for a while.

Yelp
We've been coming to Darwin's since we were kids and back when Darwin was cooking up burgers for the whole travel baseball team. Great family, good people. This is a local business you feel good supporting. My favorite thing to order is their breakfast because the portions are huge for the price. My grandma turned me onto the tenderloin biscuit with mayonnaise and tomato. You have to try it! The biscuits are homemade and fluffy and delicious. This is a very small town so pretty much everybody knows everybody. If you stop by, you'll be treated like family and leave with a full belly. Stop by if you're in the area!

Yelp
This is the spot to visit when in Yadkin. The staff is warm, welcoming and friendly. Diane welcomes you, walks around to check in that you're well and says goodbye on your way out. Kaitlen was our server and she was great! She made excellent suggestions for what they had left over. This is a place that has a set menu and daily specials. However, the later you go, the more limited that menu becomes so go early. Breakfast seems to be a hit but we went for lunch and had the salt and pepper catfish (my favorite), flounder (could've used some seasoning) and the beef tips (also a hit). The hush puppies were amazing and comes as an option with each dish. Wings were good and saucy and the cobbler was cobbler. By the way, the bathroom was well kept, clean and space and the ambiance of the restaurant was neat. Will definitely go back. Enjoy!

Yelp
This a great little place along Hoots Road near Yadkinville. The service is excellent, the food is very good and the selection is really good. The prices are very reasonable. When you walk in, check out the black boards on the walls for their specials. We did a motorcycle ride to this place and we all enjoyed the food, service, and the prices. If you are in this area, definitely stop by.

Yelp
Great breakfast at very affordable prices Their lunch and dinner specials are also very delicious, generous portions with a a great selection of delicious country sides at very affordable prices

Yelp
I heard about this place from some coworkers and we added it to our list of places to check out on Yelp. Today, we went to the Yadkinville area and thought we would grab something to eat. My wife went to our list, saw this and said, let's try it. It gets great reviews and they close at 2pm on Saturday and are closed on Sunday. We arrived about 12:15pm on a Saturday and pulled in the parking lot. The lot is large for the building with lots of room for parking. The building itself is very basic. It is a white painted cinder block rectangular building. You might not even realize it is a restaurant without the sign out front. After entering, we were told to have a seat where ever we liked. The inside is also a very basic rectangular room with tables. The restrooms are on the left and the kitchen is in the back. We were provided menus and offered drinks. We checked out the menu. Breakfast is served until 11am which we missed but they have all the basic breakfast items including egg plates, omelettes, sandwiches and biscuits. We focused on the lunch/dinner menu which includes their smoked BBQ, wings, burgers, sandwiches, salads and plates. My wife decided to get a double bacon burger (no bun) with buffalo chips and I ordered a double cheese burger with tater tots. The chips and tots came out first and were very good. It felt like it took a little while for our burgers to arrive, but when they did arrive, they looked awesome. We both agreed they did not have much flavor. They could have used more seasoning. And, we don't use salt very often. Overall this was a good stop, kind of off the beaten path. Everything hit the spot. It was not the best but the value for the money is great.

Yelp
Wow!! Just discovered Darwin's been there twice in one week. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. There is no doubt that the folks at Darwin's know how to cook some outstanding food. The service just as good as the food. Really loved the country fried steak at dinner and the biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Highly recommend.

Laura B.

Yelp
Food was down home country cooking. Very good! The waitress was great! And don't forget dessert! We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Excellent food and customer service! All this for under $7.00- Off the beaten path but well worth the extra mile off Interstate 77- Friendly staff and packed restaurant- all that you used to know before fast food restaurants and uninspired service -

Yelp
The food is always fantastic, the service is great, and Darwin's is a family hit for dine in or take out. Homemade, home style cooking! They have daily specials and they never disappoint!

Andrea H.

Yelp
Great little restaurant. Clean, fast and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. I had fried chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes for lunch. $7.49!!! The green beans were by far the best cooked green beans I have ever had in a restaurant. Seriously. The best green beans. They were cooked till the were done but not till they turned to mush. Chicken was delicious and mashed potatoes were too! Will definitely be back and can't wait to try their breakfasts. Highly recommend

Yelp
Me and three friends were heading home from a Mountain Golf trip and I was searching Yelp for a place to stop and eat. There was hardly anything near our location and I kept seeing Darwin's come up in my searches so we decided to give it a try. Ratings looked good and we were hungry. We pulled up to the building and the outside is nothing to be impressed about but there were a good amount of vehicles there. after we went inside, we received a friendly greeting, and the menu and handwritten chalkboards were explained. Glad we went on a Friday because they had blackened catfish and oysters and shrimp. The catfish was spectacular and I noticed another board with dessert on it and they had blackberry cobbler with ice cream. Apparently that is a hot item because there was only two servings left and since it was my birthday, I got one of those. I saw a lot of orders being taken to go the whole time we were there, and I realized that this was a Local favorite and very understandably why. Everything was delicious. They had a lot of good items, all very reasonably priced. We definitely plan to stop back by the next time we are in this area.

Yelp
Hole in the wall country eating that feels homemade and people are nice. Service is fast.

Yelp
Absolutely one of my favorite place to eat! The food is almost always delicious especially breakfast!!! Service us usually good. But the food comes out of the kitchen very slow so don't come here if you're in a hurry. On Friday night they have a few extra desserts worth a try. Thank you guys for great food and a reasonable price.

Dawn C.

Yelp
Great food at a great price! The chicken tenders, meatloaf, and seafood are amazing. If you want good country food at a good price check it out.

Yelp
Ok, so 1st off, they are not open on Sunday, which is how we ended up At Angry Troll Restaurant in one of our other excursions. Nonetheless, this is an unpresuming little restaurant in the middle of nowhere between Yadkinville and I-77 off Hwy 21. You drive up to a white cinderblock building and you think, there is no way there is a 5star restaurant in here! And you would be wrong. All home cooked food, including BBQ, fish and your standard meat and 3 veggies. Plenty of food served hot and quickly and in a place you would never think you would walk into to eat. And since I am going through a sweet tooth phase, let me tell you about the homemade pies. Chocolate, Lemon Ice Box And Coconut Cream. Let's not forget they do have a New York cheesecake that rivals anything at your higher priced restaurants. If your craving home food and like Funky places to go to, this is definitely one to put on your list. You will not be disappointed !!!

Yelp
It doesn't look like much when you drive by but don't let that fool you, Darwin's is one of Yadkinville's best kept secrets. Great southern cooking, reasonable pricing and friendly staff. Very clean and great service.

Makenzie A.

Yelp
Delicious, home style food. What you would expect if you asked your grandma to cook for you! WONDERFUL breakfast but excellent dinner/lunch items as well.
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Best food around. The staff is always friendly. If your looking for country cooking this is your place.

Yelp
After many years traveling to clients nationwide, I learned early that the great local eateries were the places with full parking lots. This is one of those. Simple and tasty southern fare without any pretentions to be something else and very reasonably priced. Love this place for both the food and the service and visit often. There is only one reason for a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star... the offerings at dinner seem much less fresh in taste than they do for lunch.

Haley H.

Yelp
Try the traditional sauce and chicken tenders. Excellent service and people that work here are extremely friendly
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
I frequent this place weekly! The food is excellent and the service is great also! I recommend Darwin's highly!
google avatar

Kathy V.

Yelp
Typically husband won't drive very far off the expressway but we were hungry so he decided to take the 3 miles to get to Darwin's. What a pleasant surprise! Server/cashier/greeter was a funny friendly lady who made us laugh. Her food recommendations were spot on! Whitefish, catfish were wonderful! Fast service. Small local place with lots of specials on large chalk boards. What a fun place! Highly recommend!

Fred M.

Yelp
Great fresh country food and excellent service consistently at Darwins!
google avatar

Eva T.

Yelp
They're chicken tenders with the traditional sauce is AWESOME. Some of their sides are bland like the mashed potatoes (I think 99.9% they're powdered) and the Mac n cheese but I don't even care when the sauces tenders are that good.
google avatar

Jillian S.

Yelp
Excellent service and food at affordable prices. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. Our waitress (Cassie) was very kind, informed us of the specials, and provided us with drinks. She was constantly sweet and smiling and all of our orders were accurate. She made sure we had every thing we needed and that our drinks were promptly refilled. Highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely visit again!

Megan G.

Yelp
Love the food here! I usually get the chicken tenders with Buffalo sauce, green beans, and Texas toast!
google avatar

Tana M.

Yelp
Wonderful service and food. Staff is friendly and I recommend the traditional style chicken tenders.

Yelp
We stopped on a drive to Boone. Great value and good food. The service was fast and friendly. I will stop here again.

Mickie W.

Yelp
Great location for breakfast and lunch. Very reasonable prices. Lunch specials Monday thru Friday. Best hot dog in area. Try it all the way and you will like it.
