San Francisco Bay Area Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes That Closed in May 2024 - Eater SF

"Persian restaurant Daryoush is joining the mass exodus of Center Street businesses lately as it’s soon to undergo construction, East Bay Nosh reports. The restaurant closed on Monday, May 20 but it’ll be a short-lived closure, however — the owners are opening a new location at 1534 Locust Street in Walnut Creek on June 1." - Dianne de Guzman

Updated: my friend looked at the Persian ice cream but we ordered the wrong one. Bumping up to 5 stars. I went back 2 days later for lunch. Chicken wasn’t as juicy but still juicy enough for me to go back. Had the lamb chops too, it could use a tiny sprinkle of salt. Lunch deal is good. 1 star taken off because of the Icy rice dessert. We HATED it. I wish I could have sent it back but the guy didn’t come back until the entire thing melted. We each had one bite and didn’t touch it. It was just sweet syrup.! Other than that, the lamb shank (we got the top one with the eggplant) and the chicken kebab was AMAZING! So juicy and tender! Will order again. (We got the combo plate). The salad had a couple bad/old leaves but otherwise it was fine. The free flat bread at the beginning was good but I think they should just give 2 pieces per person not an entire stack. We went right when they opened at 11:30am on a Saturday and there were plenty of seats available.

I came here for the first time for dinner and I was really impressed. The beef and chicken koobedieh was delicious as well as the hummus. Good customer service and the restaurant has a nice ambience. I'll definitely come back!

Had dinner with the family after a long vacation. Chose to go here but found the food to be mediocre. The kobideh is mushy a sign that it has flower or breadcrumbs added to the ground beef. The rice tasted like steamed rice than Persian rice lacking salt. The Kashk e bedemjun was runny. Top it off, they charge 20% gratuity for 5 people or more.

Daryoush - A Casual Introduction to Persian Cuisine Daryoush, a newly opened Persian restaurant in Walnut Creek, brings a variety of Persian flavors to its menu. While the food is good and slightly above average, it doesn’t stand out when compared to other Persian restaurants I’ve experienced. For those new to Persian cuisine or seeking to explore its flavors, it’s definitely worth a try. The service, while dedicated, leans more toward a casual, street-style vibe rather than a fine dining experience. If you're expecting the polished, upscale ambiance typical of Walnut Creek’s finer establishments, this might not meet your expectations. That said, the crew works hard, but the setting and service style may feel a bit informal for those accustomed to fine dining. The Server at one point when we arrived at the restaurant asked us to go out and stand outside. This was seen unprofessional and lack civic manners. I plan to revisit to explore more menu options, as there is potential, but I wouldn’t consider this a go-to spot for frequent dining. Overall, it’s a decent place for a casual meal and an introduction to Persian cuisine, though it may not satisfy those looking for a more refined experience.

Amazing food, great service, nice atmosphere, and great location! Both Barg and Koobideh were perfectly cooked and tasted great! The Tahdig was also perfect addition.

Google
What a great experience! We went to try Persian cuisine and it exceeded our expectations. The meat dishes were especially amazing—so juicy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was warm and pleasant, and the service was fast and friendly. Definitely a place we’d love to come back to. Highly recommended!

We stopped by for lunch here on Sunday and tried the Appetizer platter along with the Kabob platter. The appetizers had the egg plant dish, humus and yogurt cucumber salad. Everything tasted fresh on that platter but the egg plan dish was a bit bland and needed salt and pepper. As for Kabob platter I liked the chicken the most. The filet was overcooked.

Just heard about this place last night. I'm a huge foodie and Persian food is my #1 favorite. I loved this place. The service was spot on. We were in and out in less than a hour. Presentation was wow . Food was amazing 👏. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This was a good visit! We were just walking along the street to check out where to snack at and tumbled upon this place. We got the appetizer combination plate and the Jujeh Sultani Kabob, which were both good! The chicken/jujeh kabob is probably the tastiest/best chicken kabob I've had. We will definitely be back to try more dishes or eat the chicken kabob again!

Yelp
We came here for dinner after my massage on Saturday. The dining room was surprisingly cold looking and dark. Service was very fast. The portion sizes are pretty big. We both enjoyed the chicken dishes but the thigh dish was especially tender and tasty. Prices are very reasonable. We would come back if we ever want to have more Persian food. It reminds me of the Persian restaurant Maydoon in Sacramento but this place is slightly cheaper. Ambiance is a bit on a cold side so might not be the best for special events.

Yelp
I recently dined at Daryoush and, as a Persian, I found the experience quite disappointing compared to the standards of a typical Persian restaurant. The meal started on a disheartening note when the waiter brought out a half onion as a starter, rather than the traditional spread of fresh greens, cheese, and nuts that one would expect. The quality of the meat was merely average, lacking the rich flavors and tender texture characteristic of authentic Persian cuisine. To top it off, the rice served was reminiscent of Mexican rice, not the fragrant and fluffy Persian rice that is a staple of our culinary tradition. The lavash bread was from Trader Joe's instead of being fresh Persian made. Overall, it fell short of delivering a genuine Persian dining experience. It's a shame, as there is so much potential in sharing our rich culinary heritage, but this establishment failed to capture the essence and quality of authentic Persian food.

Yelp
Service was good, great place to catchup with someone or have a casual dinner. The food is very good quality, I would certainly go again and explore the menu. Highly recommend requesting the crispy rice, it's a hack my friend showed me. I'll definitely come back.

Yelp
Consistently great service and food. My husband and I have eaten here 4 times in the last two weeks and can't get enough! I especially love that they offer a vegan/vegetarian menu in addition to the traditional menu items- you don't see that very often in Persian restaurants. The owner is extremely kind and hardworking, and we are grateful that he chose to open a location in Walnut Creek!

Yelp
The good: The service was impeccable The restaurant was clean The chicken and filet were delicious. I wished the filet was more charred, we will ask for this next time. I upgraded the rice to the one with orange and pistachio, incredible The ice tea was great The cucumbers salad was delicious The bad: Nothing

Yelp
One of my favorite places in the East Bay. Cute little restaurant by the Berkeley campus. The food is sensational. If you are a fan of lamb, you need to come here. Perfectly cooked every time I have been here. Staff is attentive, the food comes out quick, and the price for the quality you are getting is amazing.

Yelp
I enjoyed an early dinner at the new Persian restaurant, Daryoush, on Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek. It's located where Kaiwa Sushi used to be. Daryoush's original location was in Berkeley, but they moved to Walnut Creek due to new construction at their former location. Berkeley's loss is our gain. The food at Daryoush was scrumptious! I ordered the Beef Koobideh Kabobs. The plate included two perfectly seasoned kabobs that melted in your mouth. The rice included crispy tahdig, which was a treat. The plate included a perfectly grilled tomato. You can opt to have half salad and half rice; I should have done that to have some green on my plate. The serving was huge; I boxed half for lunch or dinner tomorrow. Since I saved room for dessert, I ordered the Makhloot, a combination of Half Persian Ice cream & Half Faludeh Shirazi. The Persian ice cream was homemade with Saffron, Pistachio, and Rose Water. The Faludeh Shirazi is Persian Icy Rice Noodles flavored with Rose Water. What a sweet treat and very refreshing on this warm day. I also noticed that many of their dishes can be made vegan! The restaurant is beautiful. It's tastefully decorated and has a nice air of romance. Small lamps adorned each table--they were beautiful and practical! They offer both indoor and outdoor dining. Service was impeccable! The young man who helped me asked if I had tried Persian food before and explained that I should enjoy the grilled tomato over the rice and sprinkle the sumac seasoning over the Koobideh. Of course, I sprinkled the sumac everywhere! Daryoush offers lunch specials from 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM. I've included photos of the lunch, regular, beer and wine, and dessert menus. They have wines from France, Italy, and Armenia. They also have Shams Persian Pilsner.

Yelp
Oh my goodness.. Literally the best Persian food I have had in my entire LIFE! I am so overjoyed and happy to have eaten here - I am literally still thinking about my meal a week later! The portions are large and the food is so juicy, flavorful, and made with love. I ate a little bit of everything and enjoyed it all. The service was amazing as well. The waiter told us they put a smiley face in the hummus!! lol. The inside of the restaurant isn't too big, but it's enough for many people. The ambiance is really nice too. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Another Delightful Dining Experience at Daryoush Persian Cuisine My last meal at Daryoush Persian Cuisine was before the pandemic, so it had been a while. Today, I was in the neighborhood with a couple of colleagues who were as hungry as I was, and we decided to indulge. The place was busy, but the three of us got a table inside. The dining area is not big but comfortable and well-kept, and interesting photos and art pieces are hanging on the walls. We started with a Combo Plate for an appetizer. We switched the Kashk-e-Bademjan (Roasted Eggplant Dip with Whey) with Mirza Ghasemi. The other items on the plate were Musto-o-Khiar (Yogurt and cucumbers), hummus, feta cheese, and fresh herbs. Mirza Ghasemi is a dish distinct to the Gilan province, which covers a good portion of Northern Iran by the Caspian Sea shore. It is made with a combination of tomato, garlic, mashed grilled eggplant, and eggs. The eggplants are roasted over an open flame and have a distinct smoky flavor. It was done just right, and we all loved it. Two of us shared a Daryoush Plate, which serves two people easily. It includes three skewers: one filet mignon, ground beef, and one chicken breast kebobs. We switched the chicken breast to chicken thigh, which is usually moister meat. The kebobs are served with two plates of Basmati rice. We enjoyed everything. The filet mignon was a bit well done for me, so I made a mental note to ask for medium rare the next time, but other than that, everything was good. Our server was very good and on top of his game. He was very accommodating and ensured we got everything we requested on time. All in all, all of us enjoyed our meal and will certainly go back there again.

Yelp
I was craving Persian food for nowruz this year so I decided to order from Daryoush, which has been on my list to try ever since they first opened. I ended up ordering a feast for my partner and I and I have zero regrets because it was delicious. First off, I had no idea while looking at the menu on DoorDash that they had so many vegan and vegetarian options--I'm not sure if the options aren't on there or if I just didn't know where to look. I happened to look at their website and saw all the veggie options and ended up ordering through the website. The food: Nowruz Plate - this was a special for nowruz. It was sabzi polo ba mahi, basically a fish and rice plate. The fish was delicately fried, perfectly cooked. The rice was herby and fresh, although again very salty. They also gave quite a lot of fish which really impressed me! This also came with a nice piece of kuku sabzi which was again herby and earthy and hearty and divine, as it should be. Gormeh sabzi - one of my favorite foods and they did an incredible job. It was tangy, it was herby, it had the right amount of bitterness, it was everything I wanted and needed. I am always grateful for a vegetarian version! Vegan Lamb Koobideh - okay, ever since going pescatarian the only meat I have ever missed is lamb koobideh. This did not compare obviously, but it was still surprisingly good and had an interesting texture. It was veryyy salty which was my main complain overall about the food, but it could have just been whoever was in the kitchen that day. I would be curious to try their other vegan options! Salad-e-shirazi - this was kind of overpriced to be honest, could have used more tomatoes (understandably, it is not tomato season right now) and could have used more acid/lemon for me. That said, it's probably one of their busiest nights in terms of ordering so I wouldn't fault them for it. Kashke bademjan - this may have been even better than their gormeh sabzi. It was so savory and the umami from the caramelizad onion and the eggplant and the tang of the kashk, absolutely delicious. Zoolbia & bamieh -- again, they totally crushed it! The consistency of the zoolbia was crisp and sweet and not too sticky, and same with the bamieh. I can't believe it took me so long to try this restaurant, but now I'm glad I know where to get some of the best Persian food I've had at a restaurant in a long time!

Yelp
This was my first time having Persian food but I love similar cuisines like Afghan and Moroccan, and also absolutely loved what I had here. I came with a group of four for a pretty late Saturday dinner and they fortunately had one table left for us - it seems like a popular place and doesn't take reservations so maybe there is a wait at more peak hours. We started with the Zabon (lamb tongue) appetizer since some of us liked beef tongue but never tried lamb tongue. It's served in a rich broth and quite similar to beef tongue, tender braised meat, but with the lamby flavor. Less weird than you'd think and worth trying for lamb lovers! We also split three entrees: the combo koobideh platter with juicy and well-cooked ground meat kebabs, the Khoresht Bodemjan which was a big tender lamb shank in an eggplant and tomato stew, and the Khoresht Fesenjoon which was chicken in a sweet pomegranate sauce that reminded me of mole. Each dish was exceptional and came with a heaping portion of either salad or rice. We also got the Persian tea which was richly flavored, served with sugar cubes, and seemed to have unlimited refills. You can guess we were very full by the end! Each entree was only about $20 - I don't think I've ever seen a whole lamb shank for that price anywhere else. The servers were great and readily answered questions about the menu and regularly checked in. UC Berkeley is lucky to have such a special restaurant close by, and at incredibly reasonable prices that students can enjoy considering the quality and quantity of food.

Yelp
I've walked by this place so many times without knowing how good this place is. We started with the hummus which was very fresh. I ordered the chicken and beef kebab platter and both meats were to die for. They were so juicy and so hearty and well spiced. It was so well paired with the tahdig (which is more than just rice). It came with a piece of fried bread? I think it was to mimic the crispy rice but regardless it was a nice add on. I definitely want to try other dishes here!
google avatar

Leonna T.

Yelp
The girlies and I stopped by for weekday lunch and some tea. So glad we decided to come to Daryoush! The weekday lunch special is very worth it as it includes a full plate with rice, skewer, and salad with a drink. Chicken Koobideh: Very tender and flavorful. The rice portion was very filling and the salad was so fresh. The roasted tomato was fantastic as well. Service was very kind and refilled our tea while we were done with our plates and catching each other up on our lives. I would come here again!

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place forever and have heard tons of great things about it, deservedly so! Service was super fast and accommodating. My friend and I were the first ones in today, but the restaurant filled up quickly and was over half full by noon, which is impressive considering it's a Wednesday. The two dishes we got were absolutely delicious! I got a combo kebab plate (5/5) with half salad and half rice. Both the beef and chicken kebabs were extremely tender and juicy, but I especially liked the seasoning and flavor chicken one. Might just get the chicken skewer plate next time. My friend got the Jujeh Kabob plate (4/5) with the same half rice half salad combo. Also loved this one, the meat was cooked perfectly! Portion wise, however, I thought the combo plate/regular kebabs were more generous and worth the cost. After our meal, our server was super sweet and offered us complementary hot black tea, since it was our first time. Amazing experience overall and am definitely going to come back!!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal--in the appetizer platter, I really enjoyed the flavor of the hummus as well as the pairing with mint and and other veggies. The kabobs were juicy and cooked well, not burnt at all, and the rice (I got the one with nuts and raisins and such in it) had a very pleasant texture as well as mild flavor (compared to the meat I was eating it with). Service was good, they made sure our waters were full throughout the dinner, and the restaurant has a nice ambience. Will be back!

Yelp
The only challenge? Finding parking in busy Berkeley where meter maniacs circle like sharks ready to give out parking tickets. Located near UC - Berkeley, Daryoush is perfectly situated for diners with its large diverse student and resident population. Excellent service in this small but quaint restaurant in a comfortable setting. We were there for a birthday lunch and wanted to try a variety of dishes, thus ordered: - Eggplant Dip with Slices of Pita Bread - Daryoush Plate for two, comes with three Kabobs (Filet Mignon, Chicken, Ground Beef) and Basmati Rice - Stewed Lamb Shank with Eggplant - Ground Walnut in a slightly Sweet Persimmon Sauce Honestly, I don't know Persian food and how it should taste, all I know is that it tasted good and we ate it all up. FYI - street parking is $8 for two hours. We'll go back and try other stuff....
google avatar

Neha A.

Yelp
Had a tasty dinner here last night! The two of us enjoyed the daryoush plate for two with a hummus appetizer. The beef kefta was delicious and my favorite thing. The steak was good, the chicken kabob was a bit dry. Was disappointed with the hummus, it wasn't as flavorful as even store bought hummus. The salad was delicious. It was an affordable meal and plenty of food for two people! The interior of the restaurant is small and service was a bit slow. It's a casual ambiance. Not sure I would return again Bcs there's so much good food to try in Berkeley! But I enjoyed my meal.

Yelp
Great Food and Service is top notch! The owner is amazingly friendly and provides the best customer service! Was there on a Sunday with a large party and they were able to accommodate and after a wait till the tables freed up, the food came right away!

Yelp
We recently dined at the newly opened Daryoush restaurant in Walnut Creek as a family and had a fantastic experience. The ambiance is welcoming and the staff are incredibly attentive. We enjoyed Kabob Barg and Koobideh, which were perfectly grilled, along with Masteh Mooseer and homemade Doogh. Daryoush is a wonderful addition to Walnut Creek and we highly recommend it!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for ages, and it did not disappoint! My friend and I came for lunch just as the restaurant opened, so we were the first customers there. We were greeted so kindly at the door. Because it was our first time, he introduced us to the lunch specials, let us order through Snackpass (for the deal), and gave us complimentary hot tea at the end! Throughout the meal, our server kept checking in on us and making sure everything was to our liking. Exceptional service! The food was also amazing. We ordered the Combo that came with half rice, half salad, one skewer of beef koobideh, and one skewer of chicken koobideh. Everything was so flavorful, from the rice to the skewers to the salad. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked! We also ordered the Jujeh kabob, which is a skewer of chicken breast that comes with the same sides. The meat wasn't the slightest bit dry and so easy to cut into. Both meals came with this crispy rice, which is supposed to be eaten like a chip with everything, but we both weren't big fans. Definitely one of the top meals I've had in Berkeley, considering price, service, and quality of food!
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomenal meal, great service, and a convenient location make Daryoush the perfect place to celebrate a birthday or special day. Honestly, some of the best food I've ever eaten. It was a party in my mouth! Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Wonderful experience celebrating my birthday with my family!

Yelp
We discovered Daryoush Persian Cuisine on our first day in Berkeley. The restaurant is located across the street from the Residence Inn. Street parking is challenging. We ordered Panir Sabzi, Koobideh and Cab wine (from Isreal?). Mr. Daryoush himself waited on us and provided excellent service. He served us beautifully plated and generously portioned food. DELICIOUS! The freshness and perfect flavor combinations of the herbs, briny cheese, walnuts and flatbread of the Panir Sabzi brought instant satisfaction. I took 1/2 of it back to the hotel to enjoy the next day. The charbroiled Koobideh, was tender, juicy and oh so flavorful with the grilled tomato, salad, fluffy basmati saffron rice and tahdig. We enjoyed our dinner so much we returned for another dinner with our Berkeley kid. On second dinner at Daryoush, we started with the Appetizer Combo Plate and ordered Combo Koobideh. Our chicken koobideh was seasoned well and was juicy. Having both chicken and beef koobideh to compare, our favored beef a tad more than the chicken. Our Berkeley kid inhaled his Combo Koobideh (new flavors for him). Mr. Daryoush had told us on our 1st visit that they don't use any peanuts/peanut oil. This was good news and one of the reasons we brought our Berkeley kid here. Glad we discovered this wonderful restaurant.

Yelp
I've been here couple years ago and this time was my second time. I don't remember much about last time . The customer service is great . The employees are nice , very friendly, professional, efficient and very attentive. The food is just ok . I ordered their Mirza ghasemi and their lunch special : koobideh with rice . The rice was not flavorful and it was not Iranian rice . The koobideh same not much flavor in to it . Mirza ghasemi was kind of American version of some kind of food . I didn't enjoy it. I was just hungry around the area and I wanted to try Persian food which is my favorite type of food ,

Yelp
This was my first time coming here as my friend and I had a movie date across the street. We ordered two dishes, one is more on the sweet side and one is more on the savory side. I liked them both, but the sweet one was a bit too much for me. A cute moment was when I was about to order that, and the waiter asked me if I had that before. I said no and he offered me a sample, which was so generous and kind. I have not had Persian food before. It was my first time having it and I will try it again.
google avatar

Sophia S.

Yelp
The food was delicious! I got the stew that had Finely crushed roasted walnuts simmered in pomegranate sauce. It is on the sweeter side but it was still really good. We also got the beef kabobs. The price you pay and the portion you get is fair. The service was good and attentive. I would definitely come back.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
I feel really bad writing this because the ambiance was good, and the staff was pleasant. That being said, everything about the food was off. Starting with the Must-o-khiar, something was very wrong with the taste. After one try, we did not touch it. Moving on to the Kabobs, they were missing so much flavor, and the Ghormeh Sabzi had none, which was disappointing. I hope this was just an off day and the business can fix it because there are not many Persian restaurants in the Bay Area.
google avatar

Cal B.

Yelp
Ordered Daryoush plate for take out and the food was prepared to order in less than 20 minutes and ready for pick up. The food tasted fantastic and everyone in our party was very impressed! The Kabobs were tender and tasty and portions were generous. The rice was fluffy and tasty. I will be there again soon and highly recommend Daryoush!

Yelp
Romantic environment serving up super delicious, clean Persian and middle eastern food. The ground chicken skewers brushed in their special saffron sauce were delicious and their yogurt dip divine! Great service too.

Yelp
Right across from the hotel we stayed at. Super good food- left feeling rather full but also with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. I went with the 2 kabob meal that had one beef kabob, one chicken kabob, rice, and stewed tomato. I was stuffed eating half then packed the rest up. Enjouyed it for lunch the next day with a quick reheat in the hotel room. Staff was friendly. Restaurant was clean and spacious. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Daryoush - it's definitely a gem and one of the best Persian meals I've had in a long while. Despite the weird bear face hummus (you'll know when you order it) - it's fantastically rich and bursting with flavor. The kabobs were exceptional with the meat being tender, juicy, and well seasoned with spices. Also the lamb chops! Those were phenomenal and cooked perfectly. If you're in search of a great Persian dining experience in Berkeley, definitely check it out. One note: if you are sitting outside and it's windy: you might get a few bits of leaves / tree bits dropping on you. Still a good experience though.
google avatar

Susie S.

Yelp
The absolute best and tastiest food --and great vegan options. What made the large group experience as divine as it was is that Manuel and Jerry were kind, passionate and attentive to our every need. They went above and beyond! If you are the owner reading this review, please know how rare it is to have employees invested to the degree these two fine humans are. Count yourself super lucky. Best of luck and congrats. It's a well oiled machine.

Lo W.

Yelp
Not good food very disappointed , Berkeley location had very tasty ,delicius and good food nothing similar to Walnut Creek new location , the Berkeley location was much cheaper , no rushing and pushing the diners out of the restaurant hoping new customers come in , I would say it was a big disappointment and a big shock for me,,

Yelp
Wonderful evening of outdoor dining ! Delicious plentiful food and excellent service ( thank you Jerry!) Everything looked amazing and every diner was clearly enjoying themselves. We went with our waitpersons recommendations and he did not steer us wrong! Shared dishes and still enough to bring home a full meals worth for two!! Definitely coming back here!!

Yelp
The service is amazing, the food is so delicious, the restaurant is very clean. The food delivery is always on time, very generous portion. I highly recommend Daryoush.Thank you for the wonderfull service.

Yelp
We usually go to this restaurant when craving about Kabob. Their food is good and delicious. Always busy during weekend but their service is fast. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Marc G.

Yelp
This quaint restaurant is a nice change of pace on Center Street next to a number of fast casual food stops. The service was attentive and quick despite the restaurant being full and the wait staff thin. I ordered the super barg meal (a mix of grilled chicken and filet mignon). The salad was great with the roasted tomato on the side, and the chelo (rice) was perfect - a good balance of firmness and fluffiness. The chicken and the filet were good - grilled to the right temperature, but the spices were a little bland (not bad, but not incredibly flavorful). If I could give this place 4.5 stars, I would. So, the 4 will have to do.

Yelp

Yelp

Yelp
Yelp delivery via Grubhub 2/16/2023: I got the chicken and beef combo plate. I asked for yogurt on the side but I guess they don't do yogurt, because I didn't get any. Not a big deal. Meat was crazy tender. Not sure what they add to their meat for that unique bouncy texture as well as unmatched juiciness, but it is out of this world! Ordered ghormeh sabzi as a side. It came with dried rice pieces for dipping. Since it was a to-go order, the rice pieces were stale and oily. Honestly, I don't even think they would have been any good fresh. You can tell when charred rice is right... because it's charred. This wasn't it, chief. I will say that the sabzi was beautifully bitter and the beans added body. Delicious. Summary: combo plate = bomb. Sabzi = bomb. Rice cakes = pffft. I'd still eat here again. Thanks for adding the sumac seasoning pack to my order! Loved that.

Yelp
100% halal menu which is great for those with dietary restrictions. I was surprised at how fast the food came out, we ordered several plates and within 5-10 mins our food was ready. We sat outdoor as the weather was great. The food was delicious, I wish they would add onions on the plate rather than bring side plates with half onion on it that you then have to cut and chop yourself. One weird thing that happened is while eating there was a bunch of bees that kept swarming outside. It caused us to quickly finish our food and pack the rest. We thought about going inside but everyone only had about 20% of their food left and would be tough to relocate with little ones in the party as well. Not sure what that was about. I would go here again and perhaps give the indoor seating a try.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service and ambiance! Its proximity to the UCB campus makes an excellent choice for a pre event meal! I'll definitely go back!

Yelp
We didn't plan to eat here but what a gem!! We waited about 10 min for a table and the owner (I'm guessing) updated us many times on when our table will be ready and what the plan is and he was pretty much the only waiter but he remembered to take care of all his customers in such a friendly and calm manner! The food was sooo good ! I've never tasted such tender meat before ! My friend got the chicken/eggplant stew and thought the flavor was impeccable with the rice ! We told the owner that we're from out of town, so he was so nice to bring us Persian tea and baklava on the house! And poured us more tea when we were empty! The tea was so flavorful and refreshing and you can tell it's not just tea bags but actual tea leaves that they used to brew it. And the baklava was not too sweet, which is hard to find in my opinions. Baklavas I've had in the past have always been so sweet to the point where my teeth would hurt! But theirs was perfect with the Persian tea! We really enjoyed this last minute decision we made and it was the perfect way to end our get-together!

Yelp
I was super hungry before coming here and I pretty much saved my appetite for this dinner. I have not had Persian cuisine in the East Bay yet, so I was ready for a new experience. We had reservations and were seated briefly before our table was ready. We were seated at the window which was really nice because it was people watching and tucked in the corner of the restaurant, so it felt private at the same time. For apps, we ordered panir sabzi, which is what I typically love starting my Persian cuisine with. It's a variety of mint and basil, tomatoes, olives, walnuts and feta that get put together on bread and it's just a perfect sandwich salad. I cannot turn down mirza ghasemi, which is made of garlic and eggplant. It's just HEAVENLY. We ordered the Daryoush platter, which has the khoobideh (beef), joojeh (chicken- thigh) and the filet mignon. It was perfect with our basmati rice, which came on two plates and were heaping mounds. The dinner was absolutely unforgettable as was the service, the ambience- super casual and popular, it seemed and I felt like I was having a great night. To finish off the dinner, I'm a huge fan of baklava, so I had to try theirs. It arrived warm and syrupy and perfect with my tea. Just an awesome dinner!

Yelp
This restaurant did not disappoint! We did have to wait a bit for a table because it was pretty busy on a Saturday night, so it may be best to make a reservation. I ordered the lamb shank and eggplant stew and it did not disappoint! The lamb was super flavorful and had that good melty texture that slowly cooked lamb should always have. On the side I had the rice and salad. This portion was super big, and felt like the perfect amount for the price. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
I think I've found my new spot for Persian food! Daryoush is centrally located and so easy to get to since it's right near all of the important transit hubs/stops in Berkeley. This time, I visited with my family (who also loved it!). To start, we ordered the Salad-E-Shirazi. It was refreshing and the ingredients themselves tasted fresh. It was a great way to start off a hearty meal! Our server also brought out some lavash, butter, and onion. For our main meal, we ordered two Combo Koobideh platters. Our server saw that we were planning on eating them family-style so they combined all of the rice onto one plate and all of the meat onto another. We really appreciated this since it made it easier for us to portion everything out onto our personal plates. The koobideh (both beef and chicken) was so juicy and flavorful and there was lavash at the bottom of the plate to collect all of the juices from the meat, something I've never had at a Persian restaurant before but ended up loving It was like a flavor bomb! The rice was topped with lavash tahdig, which I've also never had before but enjoyed nonetheless. The interior of the restaurant is super clean and it's decorated with large prints of historical sites from Iran, like Persepolis. This was such a nice touch and I found myself reading off the prints while I waited for the food to come. If you're in the area or are even willing to travel for Persian food, Daryoush is well worth the trip! I'll definitely be back soon!
