A Fire Damages Newly-Opened Bay Area Restaurant Mazra | Eater SF

"I saw that downtown Mountain View beer garden Das Bierhauz is expanding to Redwood City this summer, taking the former Cafe La Tartine space; it offers traditional German beers and cuisine and is especially pet- and family-friendly, with a kid’s menu and board games on hand, and is expected to open next month." - Justine Jones

We've been here a couple of times, most recently for dinner. Service is consistently great. Obviously, they have a wonderful selection beers, everything is served in these cool glasses and is ice cold! The food is excellent. We loved the chicken schnitzel, the spaetzel, and the cauliflower fritter appetizer is so delicious! Just one note: the black forest cake is very dense, so if you're into fluffy, light cake, it's not for you. Everything was generally lovely, and I would absolutely come back here.

It's a great place. We normally eat at the other Biergarten (we've been going for too many years) the food here is hit and miss A German friend recommended this place so we decided to try this new place We had garlic fries 5/5 Thin crispy fries topped with tons of fresh sautéed garlic. Tons Jägerschnitzel 4.5/5 Veal Schnitzel topped with mushroom cream sauce Spätzle creamy cheesy. Which accompanied the schnitzel. 4/5. Wonderful homemade but I think it's should've been crispy fried instead if drenched in cream. Too much cream on the plate. Not balanced. But homemade. Yummm Beef Rouladen 3.5/5 Beef should be a bit softer, sauce was ok it had all the right ingredients but a bit disappointing due to beef being too dry Red cabbage standard 4/5 Amazing Potato dumplings 5/5 They carried Paulaner Radler5/5 which I really liked Schwarzwälder Kirsch tort. Do not order We came specifically because our friend says it was authentic and delicious. I was skeptical when I saw it in the case but we took it home. Most horrible 1/5. Not anything like real stuff. Some bastardized version yuck. Second time We ordered "German" Doner Kebab very mixed feelings about this First of all it was split pita bread bottom layer with yogurt dill sauce then layered with lamb/beef shavings. The meat was excellent--good quality very authentic balanced flavors. But then it topped burger style with leaf lettuce sliced tomato and American pickles (a small amount of picked red cabbage). No no no. This definitely is not German but "American" style. In Germany the wrap is better bread and then the delicious meat but the toppings are completely different: there's dressed salad/tomato mixed and of course the pickled red cabbage and pickled onions. But the star is also their garlic white sauce (and other sauces) Generous amounts of vegetables and dressing and meats, everything blends in harmoniously. I'm not a big fan of pickled things but these are more "Dressed" than really sour pickled. Definitely no cucumber pickle! Despite its short comings I think it's 3.75 due to meat quality We had the veal schnitzel 4.5/5 delicious with mushroom sauce in the side. The Spätzle was great creamy cheesy. Still prob would have preferred plain crispy buttered Spätzle would have been better 4.5/5

Loved siting out on the terrace enjoying a good beer and a pretzel. Having a festival happening at courthouse square made the experience all the more exciting. Can’t beat the location/set up. The food was good. Would recommend the pretzel with cheese dip and the curry sausage. Looking forward to coming back and ordering something different. My one complaint is that the plates are large and the table small - I felt like we were going to hit something off the table the whole time. I feel like they could have given us the same amount of food on smaller plates. We were sat down at a table by a hostess and then ordered our food through an app. It was nice because we could get up and leave whenever we wanted but it was kind of a disappointment on service because we then never spoke to a waiter. Our food/drinks randomly came to us from someone without any chitchat.

Had a great lunch here. The outdoor area is serene and the food service and drinks are amazing as well. I got the stiegl radler and the veggie eggs Benedict. Both were berry good. Service was great too! Would definitely come back.

Google
What a great time! I came here by myself just wanting to try it out and have a beer then I ordered pretzel then I ordered a hamburger next thing I know I have three new friends and we’re having a great time! Love the patio! Honestly, the fries were better than McDonald’s and the hamburger was perfect. If you didn’t know any better, you’d swear you were in Germany.! Probst!!!

Google
This place was very nice. Nice outside seating in the sunshine. Staff was friendly. We had the warm goat cheese salad, kasespaetzle and fries. All of it delicious! Good prices too!! Will definitely come again.

Google
I wanted this to be 5 stars so bad! But alas, they did not deliver. The night before my GF and I saw a movie across the walkway and on our way out we noticed this German restaurant/bar. Immediately we were intrigued. Coming originally from Europe I was super excited to try it and compare it to what I know these dishes are supposed to taste like. The next day we came for lunch. We were nicely greeted and immediately seated as it wasn't very busy, it was about 30% full. FIRST disappointment was online ordering. Ok, went through this last few years so we know how to work it but we would like to go back to good old days. Each of us ordered a pretzel for starters, my GF ordered Dönner Kebab for main dish, I ordered Wiener Schnitzel for the main dish and we both got a half liter Radler. Radler came out very quickly which was a plus but nothing out of ordinary considering it was not busy. SECOND disappointment was that we waited a long while to get the food and both starter and main dish came at the same time. I'm not sure why is this so hard get it right. THIRD disappointment was the Dönner Kebab. It seems that no one bothers to look up what its supposed to look and taste. Suggestion to the restaurant: please do some homework on this one. Fries was warm and was not salted. If done well you could sell millions. Radler was delicious. My Wiener Schnitzel was thin and small but it was tasty, speatzle that came with was bland but I fixed it by adding some pepper, mushrooms sauce that came in the side was very tasty as well as the side of jam. Thicken and slightly increase the size of the schnitzel and it's going to be awesome. Both of our pretzels were tasty but could have been warmer. Again, I think they cooled down because they came out when the rest of the food came. The atmosphere was good but we did noticed that sometimes the area attracts very rowdy youth, especially in the evening due to the movie theater near by. We will come by to try other dishes and drinks. I hope things improve.

Google
Service is lacking and unpolished but may improve (since they are new). If a table of new clients sits down and they want to order a lot of food and drinks, sending them to an app QR code in an area known for bad wifi/cell service is not a great first impression. Insult is added to injury if it's clear you're not busy but still won't take the time to help your clients. I can't imagine that works to sell more beer and food. Once the food arrived it was hot and pretty well presented. The Jagerschnitzel was the standout dish. The fries are good and crispy. The rest of the dishes were OK. We really want this place to be good as well as fun, so we will probably be back but hoping that management understands how much attitude matters; especially for a first impression.

Yelp
Went here and fell in love. It's across from the movie theatre so look for parking in the garage or outside lots. Flights are 3 beers but larger pours, the pretzel is smaller, and you must get the cheese with it. Also ordered the Currywurst with Pork and the Jager-Schnitzel with Veal. Both were amazing but the Jager-Shnitzel stole the show. From the creamy mushroom to dipping the Pretzel bread into the jam. We had to get to go boxes to stop from filling our bellies. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Staff was very friendly, the restaurant has ample seating inside and outdoors.

Yelp
Conveniently located across from the movie theater - park underground! Stopped in for a casual weekday lunch with a cheeky beer to match. My brother and I really enjoyed our beers, as we wanted something on the lighter side, and felt that the descriptions were accurate. We thought the food was pretty good, but the lentil soup was a little underwhelming/underseasoned. If I came back, I would definitely get the homemade pretzel, and maybe the sauerkraut. One funny thing is... They were playing the most depressing music known to man! I'm talking Skinny Love, 2012 indie era, sad music! Made it a little bit hard to enjoy my food when I just wanted to burst into tears.

Yelp
Food: - 4.5/5: Schweinshaxen: Available Fri-Sun only. It's better as leftovers; after a day or two in the fridge, the flavors get better. - 4.6: Kasespaetzle: nice snap to the noodles, good sauce. - 3.0: Potato dumplings. Skippable. Beer: - 3.5: Dunkel Weltenburger beer. Dark brown, but not as good as Sam Smith's Ale.

Yelp
Fun place for some good German food. Nice convenient location with lots of outdoor seating. It was too sunny for us, so we ate inside by the window. The sausages on the Wurst platter were excellent, the German potato salad was good not great (he's used to homemade) and the sauerkraut was good cured cabbage also good. The Kasespatzlee Gratin was really good with the carmelized onions but very rich. The pretzel was only ok. We would definitely go back.

Yelp
Great kid friendly option that accommodates groups. We especially like the outdoor space on nice days or early evenings, great way to catch up as a family or with friends over beers and burgers or schnitzel. Burgers and kids menu options are reasonably priced, good portions, and a good variety across salads, burgers, German fare. This is located on a street where cars are blocked off across the street from the movie theater. Service is always attentive and it's pretty chill. They have happy hour specials if timing works out for you.

Yelp
A great spot for some beer. We walked in last Friday evening, and were seated right away. They have a good selection of beers on tap that they serve in 0.5 liter and 1 liter sizes, and a few non alcoholic bottled beers as well. All beers were served in chilled glasses which was much appreciated in the warm weather. The vibe is relaxed and good to unwind with friends. Will look forward to returning to sample their food next time!

Yelp
I searched for a brewery with food and Das Bierhauz came up. I looked at the food menu and Weiner Schnitzel sounded amazing, so I checked it out. I walked in a sat at the bar. The bartender gave me a beer and food menu. I looked at the beer menu and realized that it wasn't a brewery, rather a Bierhauz with many taps from different German style breweries. I had an amber ale and a doppelbock. Both were good but the doppelbock was a little sweeter than what I prefer, but still good. I wanted the bock but the keg blew while he was pouring and he didn't have another available. He did give me the small pour and I drank it..totally bummed because it was my favorite of the beers I tried! The place is quite big with plenty of bar, outdoor and indoor seating. The food was quite good too. I ordered the veal wiener schnitzel and it came with spaetzel and a mushroom gravy. The spaetzel with gravy was heavenly! The veal was good, but a little tougher than expected. Overall I had a good meal with good beer. I'll go back!

Yelp
We stopped by for the brat plate and the kasespatzle along with some of the Germany beers and thoroughly enjoyed the food! Probably the best kasespatzle I've had in the Bay, closest to the taste we experienced while in Germany. I love that they had so much space inside the restaurant, lots of seating, lots of beer options, including radlers and liter measurements! Service was fast and mostly left us alone as per German here halls. Definitely will be coming back again to eat and drink!

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been here--probably 5-6 months. I've always loved the vibes; it's definitely one of our go-to spots for playing games. That said, the food has historically been just meh in my opinion, which made it hard to justify the calories. So I stayed away for a bit. This time, we sat outside on a chilly night, but there were plenty of heaters, which made it super cozy. I ordered the Weihenstephan--a beer I really like, but it only comes in a 0.5L pour, which was a bit much for me to finish. It's a rich, dark beer that takes some commitment. The big surprise? The menu has expanded a lot, which is a huge plus. They now offer ribeye, pork chops, and even cauliflower as an appetizer. I went with the pork chops, which came with garlicky broccoli, carrots, and these little potato things that were tasty--though a touch under-seasoned. The plate had three bone-in pork chops--generous, for sure--but a little lacking in flavor. The grilled onions definitely helped tie it all together. I was tempted to try the ribeye, but the price point felt like a gamble I wasn't quite ready to take. All in all, the new menu options are a step in the right direction. I'm still a bit skeptical about coming just for the food, but I'll absolutely keep coming back for the vibes and the game-friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
Nice little beer garden in downtown Redwood City. They have traditional beer benches and some small tables with indoor and outdoor seating. Really great selection of German beer. I really like the Radler mixers which are a lighter drink for the summer. We tried the kaesespatzle and the curry wurst. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to par with the beer selection. The onions on top of the keasespaetzle were not crispy at all and the cheese was completely melted and more like a sauce which is not the way it's supposed to be. The Currywurst was ok, but the sauce could have used more curry. If you want a drink it's a good choice, not so much for great food.

Yelp
I really appreciate this brewpub in DTRWC. It's my go to for happy hour after work on Fridays, and the beers and menu are consistent so I know what I want will be there. Now the beers are very consistent (as in don't expect a rotation like at a craft brewery), and service gets the job done. Open air seating indoors and outdoors is nice given our weather in the Peninsula, so overall this is a regular stop for me.

Yelp
Third time coming here and the food and drinks are always great! They have a classic but great selection of beers and the food is delicious. I especially like the spatzle! You are able to order from a QR code from your table which is great especially when coming with a big group. The food and drinks come out fairly quickly and the staff is always happy to help. Love this place!

Yelp
We came by for lunch after enjoying Redwood City's 4th of July parade and festivities. They have an outdoor patio space available but not all of the tables are shaded. We were able to get a bunch that was partially shaded and our family of 4 was all able to sit comfortable on one side of the table to take advantage of the shade. For our meal, I ordered a beet salad, my husband got the curry wurst, and we ordered a nurnberg wurst which comes with 6 skinny sausages, sauerkraut, and a pretzel bun for my kids to share. All the food we received was delicious - my beet salad was the perfect mixture of ingredients which just the right amount of raspberry dressing drizzled in. My kids ate up their plate which is always a great sign - the sausage reminded me a bit of breakfast sausage but better and it actually made for a nice additional protein on top of my beet salad as well. My husband also enjoyed his meal, although we felt that the curry wurst was just a tad bit too "saucy". Great spot to come to if in the mood for a bite to eat or if you're thirsty - they have a bunch of German beers here to sample.

Yelp
Casual beer hall type of restaurant. Servers are very friendly and leave you alone like in Germany. They have plenty of good beers to choose from. I tried the sauerbraten and the gravy was excellent but the meat was a little dry. Probably could have used some more time. The red cabbage was perfect and the dumplings were more like potatoes than the traditional style. Still very good. The Döner sandwich needed some more salad or vegetables and was good. I really liked the Black Forest cake we took to go. Good restaurant with a lot of local influences but still German.
google avatar

Hanna L.

Yelp
Spacious, vibrant vibe, with variety of German dishes - but the tables and menu booklets were a bit dirty. Their beer price was relatively reasonable, and also had two non alcoholic beer options! (It's a bottled one) We tried the German pork feet dish called Schweinshaxe which came with sauerkraut, grilled polenta, and sauce. The portion was HUGE. The meat was marinated well but some parts were rather tough and dry, difficult to eat. It does give you a festive vibe just by its visual. Salad with grilled lamb was okay, generic but delicious enough.
google avatar

Gauri V.

Yelp
I came here because I was craving a soft pretzel. Wiener schnitzel was very good, and they accommodated my request of extra brown gravy on the side. I had a glass of Riesling with it as well as well as a soft pretzel to start, amazing and the salt on top was just wonderful. Thanks again!

Yelp
FAHRVERGNUGEN! Drive on down to Redwood City for some pretty tasty pub grub schnitzel! Authentic German pub here and I believe Oktoberfest is in full swing right now, too. They've been here a while and I've always wanted to try them and finally did. Swift service for dinner rush hour and hearty portions! They have a kids menu. The happy hour menu has prices slashed a bit on foods and drinks, 15% and 25% respectively. Very unique cuisine for the area. For starters, I ordered the Schnelle Nodelsuppe, chicken noodle soup with toasted pretzel roll, very delicious and homemade. Do not expect big noodles, their version, teeny tiny noodles I didn't even realize they were there! It's super good though. It reminds me of my Mom's homemade chicken noodle soup. The entree I ordered, Jeager-Schnitzel, pork schnitzel served with spaetzle. Wow, prepare for some serious comfort food! The schnitzel is topped with a creamy mushroom sauce which compliments the schnitzel nicely. You can ask without sauce or on the side, if you prefer. Spaetzle is creamy and cheesy goodness, somewhat like the German version of mac n cheese. All accompanied with a small side of macerated Lingonberries. For the portions you receive, the cost is accurate. They have a big menu with something for everyone. Very authentic and super tasty, please give them a try if you haven't already. I will definitely return!

Yelp
I came here with my family to celebrate Mother's Day. My first time eating at a German restaurant with my family. We had a good time. We sat outdoor and there were heating lamps keeping us warm. Great service and great food. I would come back to try other foods.

Jenny G.

Yelp
The food was so authentic and as delicious as my German mother in law's! The beer was the best! And so was the service!!
google avatar

Yelp
My Hoppy Place The original Oktoberfest, held in 1810, was meant to be a one-time affair, a celebration of the marriage of Prince Ludwig I to Princess Theresa of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The citizens (a.k.a. burghers) of Munich celebrated for five full days in front of the city gates and indulged in drink, food, parades and music. Such a good time was had by all that they've been holding the fête every year since, excluding years of war a few cholera epidemics here and there--but let's not go there. Despite my laissez-faire demeanor, I do love me some traditions--especially when food and drink are involved. So every year we try and find us a nice German joint to celebrate Oktoberfest and this year's wheel fell on Das Bierhauz's newish DTRWC location, with the original being in DT Mountain View. The Good: *Huge dog-friendly bïergarten (outdoor space) *Friendly service *Twenty German beers on draught *Order and pay via QR Code, or if you're more of a traditionalist you can order inside at the counter. *DT RWC is very underrated and more laidback than most places. *German Beef Rouladen was excellent! The beef was nice and tender and filled with bacon, mustard, pickles and onions and topped with a luscious beef gravy that had my wanting more. The coconcomitant Rotkohl (German Red Cabbage) was also quite tasty. The Meh: *The Käsespätzlee Gratin was good and kid of a German Mac and Cheese. Be sure to order it with the caramelized onions to help give it a little boost otherwise it can be a little one note. *We were really looking fwd to the German Potato Dumplings, but they were incredibly stodgy and difficult to eat after just a few bites. This was our first time trying these, so I'm not sure if that's how they're supposed to be or just visited on an off day? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *Parking can be challenging here, as there's street parking and a large municipal run garage nearby. Either way be prepared to pay, as RwC doesn't do the whole free parking on Sundays thing. The Ugly: .*Salmon on "Salmon Salat" was dry and overcooked. Conclusion: Great atmosphere, nice selection of beer, but the food was hit-or-miss.

Yelp
Good for groups. Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 5/5** Order on your phone which makes it easy to split checks, but there isn't much interaction with staff at all. Tons of both indoor and outdoor seating which make it ideal for larger groups. **Taste of the food, 4/5** I got the spaetzle (essentially German "mac n cheese") and it was very middle of the road. While the portion size is solid, the bowl felt pretty one-note. I'm glad I tried it but will try other items on the menu before I order this one again.
google avatar

Tim Y.

Yelp
Met up with some friends here recently and had some great food and drinks! Das Bierhauz has a huge outdoor seating area with plenty of picnic-style tables. Each table has a unique scannable QR code to order and pay for food. It goes through the Toast app but the UI can be a bit wonky to navigate. There's no "open tab" for the table so everyone can easily order and pay for themselves . I was impress by how fast the food and drinks were served after ordering. The Kolsch - GAFFEL was crisp, light, and refreshing for the warm evening. The garlic fries and wings that I ordered were served freshly fried and hot. There's no discount for ordering a 1L versus the 0.5L so you're better off going with the smaller glass and reordering a fresh one. Ice water is self-serve and there are two dispensers by the hostess check-in stand. As for parking, there is the Box.com parking lot right around the corner but does cost money per hour. If you're fortunately, you may be able to snag some free street parking.

Yelp
We were in the area and was looking for something to eat since it was already late. We found this place so we tried it out. They were only open for an hour so we got in and ordered right a away. We ordered a couple beers from the tap which were good. They had a good selection of beers. The two meals that we ordered were the Wurst platter and the Chicken Schnitzel plate. The dogs were fresh and good flavor to them, the bread was fresh and soft, and the condiments compliment the dogs. The chicken was cooked perfect with great flavor as well and the mushroom gravy go great with it. The Sptzle noodles were also cooked al dente. The restaurant had plenty of seating. If I was in the area again, I'd eat there again. Forgot to take photos.

Yelp
Delicious hot breakfast!! The sausage was out of this world good!! Try it you'll be very happy.

Yelp
Great place for weekday night. Always friendly. Always fast. Clean. Nice. Easy Parking in garage. It's really a great gem for Redwood City. Highly recommend for meeting friends or going out with your partner and not cooking dinner.

Yelp
Tasty German food, awesome beer selection, friendly service. Also...convenient parking in the garage across the street.

Yelp
Das Bierhauz generally was pretty good. Their food portions were really big. We ordered a gyro salad and a pork hock, easily a 4 person meal. The pork hock was good. Generally pretty well cooked but parts can be a tad dry and tough. Gyro salad is what you would expect. They have a good German beer selection to choose from but also two NA beers as well. Service was nice and atmosphere is generally cozy.

Yelp
Mr yalcin is my favorite bartender in the whole entire world. He's so extremely sweet and amazing and he's so funny and talented and he knows me by my name and a hard worker. If you want to make friends and have the time of your life come here now !!!

Yelp
Nice seating outside on a warm summer day; good tunes and vibe. A 0.5 liter Amber ale is just $7.95 in a icy cool mug.

Yelp
Das Bierhauz is new to downtown Redwood City, occupying a prime location across from the movie theater. We arrived just before happy hour ended (at 5:30 pm) and grabbed a table outside. We ordered a variety of beer, wine and food. My burger tasted like it was a frozen patty from Costco made with the least amount of effort possible. We're talking cold stale buns and a nickel size amount of sauce on it. This was rather disappointing for $18. The pretzel wasn't much better. Their Sauvignon Blanc tasted like water. We had to place orders and pay through a QR code only to find out afterwards that some drinks weren't available. It was also impossible to have anyone bring us waters. We asked multiple times and received one glass for our table of 7. Maybe there's a self serve water station inside? No idea but we weren't informed of one. No one in our group was impressed with our experience and would rather return to the OG German bar down the street, not Das Bierhauz.
google avatar

Hugh L.

Yelp
Not authentic at all. They serve Früh Kölsch out of a Maßkrug. The pretzels are very soft not crunchy. The Onatzda isn't made with mature Camembert. The Currywurst doesn't taste like in Germany. If I had to guess, this place isn't run by a German
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
I went with my coworkers to check this new place out for dinner after watching a movie. Lucky for us, it's located right across from the movie theatre. It was such a nice night, we decided to dine outside. My friend and I shared 2 beer flights, so we chose 6 different beers. The server explained what they were so fast and took away the ticket that had the beer names printed on it, that we had no idea what beer was what? Some were great, some were OK, but we don't know which ones we want to order again for next time! As for the food, we sampled a variety of things: - German Rouladen - My friend ordered this and thought it was good, but slightly dry. She said the potato dumplings and cabbage were very good though! - Veal Jeager Schnitzel - I thought the fried veal cutlet was tasty smothered in the mushroom cream sauce. The spaetzle, on the other hand, was a little bland. Perhaps, it needed more mushroom cream sauce to accompany it. - Wurst Plate - There were 3 different sausages (beef, pork and veal). I thought the pork and veal were delicious and the beef was just alright. I did like the 2 different mustards that came with it. It also came with sauerkraut and a pretzel bun, but I didn't try the bun. The sauerkraut was nice though. - Veggie Burger with Garlic Fries - I didn't try it, but my friend really liked her veggie burger! She thought it was seasoned well and had good texture. I tried a garlic fry, which was crispy and not overloaded with garlic. I sampled her curry ketchup and that was excellent! I should've asked for some of that to go with the sausages! I would say Das Bierhauz is a welcome addition to downtown Redwood City! I'd come back, for sure!!

Yelp
Crips beer and plenty of options, outdoor seating is great, good German food and sandwiches!

Yelp
Satisfied with my experience here but found it slightly lacking. Beer service was fast but food took 30 mins. The chicken schnitzel was also very basic and bland for the price and the fries were ok. Definitely recommend if you're a beer fan as they have a huge selection but wouldn't recommend for just food.

Yelp
Stopped by midday for a simple drink and had a really disappointing experience. There were only two customers in the entire place, yet it took a surprisingly long time just to get a bottled beer (not even on tap). When it finally came, the waitress had an unprofessional, dismissive attitude and even complained about being "short handed", which made no sense considering how empty the place was. To make matters worse, she spent most of the time just standing around instead of helping. If this is how service is when the place is nearly empty, I can't imagine how bad it gets when it's actually busy. Definitely won't be coming back.

Yelp
Came here for brunch and it was so great - a really nice mix of traditional German food and classical American brunch - something for everyone. Really liked the spaetzle - it's perfect for kids. The wiener schnitzel isn't the most tender that I've had but it's decent with the mushroom sauce. The pork hock with potato dumplings was also a nice dish. Also got the German favorite with sausage and eggs, and this was probably my least favorite. The sausage was good but the eggs and hash browns were nothing special. The kids pancake was also a bit dry. Finally, the space is large and the service is warm - great for families.

Yelp
Well, what to say about this place.. Its a new hot spot in redwood city area..The atmosphere is laid-back and spacious perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. The menu has something for everyone, with a nice variety of dishes that are both familiar and a bit creative. I tried the calamari and pasta (vegetarian) and it hit the spot! It was tasty, well-cooked, and had just the right amount of seasoning. Beautifully portioned as well. The service was friendly and efficient. The staff made me feel welcome and took good care of me and my pup without hovering, which I really appreciated. Overall, Das Bierhaus is a great place to grab a good meal in a relaxed setting enjoying a chilled beer of varieties...I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the mood for some good food without any fuss. Also, I totally recommend this place to everyone if you're looking for a chill place while in bay area.. I hope yelp doesn't remove my review here. It's sis that they do it all the time.

Yelp
Great spot downtown. It's across from the movie theater so you can dash across to catch your movie at the last minute. Service on a Friday night was super fast, so we had no anxiety around the timing. Also very easy to split checks.

Yelp
Merve was an excellent waitress. We appreciated the friendly service and the food was sooo good. I was jonesing for grapefruit radler like they have at the other German place by the Auto Zone, but they closed early. So we looked up other German places and I was like, Ohhh! THAT'S what they did to that Cafe by the theatre that closed? Sure enough they had the grapefruit Radler. Sooo good. And they have an eggplant schnitzel with mushroom sauce that was so good, my bf didn't even realize there was NO meat in it. The dessert - chocolate cake and raspberry cake - was delightful.

Yelp
The cute and kind waitress, Aleyna made things bearable. Only reason I would come back, to be seen and heard is very important part of the experience. Burger and fries were good Chocolate cake devine

Yelp
Very on all accounts. No comment on service because there wasn't much (service); except for a random server dropping off menus and glasses of water. We ordered via the QR code sticker glued to the table-top...then minutes later the server showed up, as if to take our order, "Dude, we're good thanks! Already ordered online!" (as we point at the table-top). Confused, he mumbles & wanders off never to be seen again. A girl food runner dropped off our order... Schnitzel (both pork and chicken) that had been pounded into submission were dry & hard from resentment and sporting a meager, but greasy, batter crust; all smothered in an over-seasoned white mushroom gravy. Sooo salty! Included on our schnitzel plates were scoops of congealed-cheesy spaetzle. On the plus side, there's a limited selection of decent german beers on draft. Had a half pint of doppel that only filled 2/3 of the mug. Oh well. At least THAT tasted delicious. For the $$ spent, the meal was not a good value for us.

Yelp
Great for a drink, but the food is atrocious. Beer is very reasonably priced. You can get a half liter of Weihenstephaner Vitus for $7.95 or a full liter for twice as much and get totally sloshed lol and all the draft beers are even less at happy hour! The food is probably passable after a liter of Vitus. I had a schnitzel salad as I'm currently on my health grind and it was served with a pretty small serving of chicken and dressing that tasted like it came straight from a bottle. My husband had currywurst that he swears was covered with curry ketchup also straight from a bottle (not even a dry mix!). My daughter's käsespätzle was dry although she ate it so I guess no real complaints there. The food menu is also huge. We came in during "brunch" time so had the full menu plus the full drink menu plus the full brunch menu plus a kid's menu. With so many options, it seemed unlikely the food would be that great. I'm glad we tried it once... to confirm what I figured would be the case. For superior German food, consider Bistro Mitte in San Carlos.

Yelp
Food is good, service is good, beer is good. Ambience kind of sucks for one very fixable reason. On the outside area there is top 40's pop and soul blaring from crappy speakers. Loud and hard to ignore and hard to have a conversation. Sound quality is at the level of a school P.A.

Yelp
Since my daughter lives in Vienna Austria and went to school in Berlin Germany, we have strong opinions about german food. Das Bierhauz has great beer but the food not to be mean does not have a taste. Skip it and drink beer. I was just in Vienna in April and the food is amazing that I tasted was hearty and had flavor. Sad since we live in Redwood City.

Yelp
horrible service, they don't allow people 1 hour before closing. The guy outside kept hovering over us and rushing us to order and the guy pouring the beer got our order wrong. the chick working was so rude.

Yelp
Had a nice experience @ Dasbierhauz restaurant. Ambiance is elegant yet inviting, with soft lighting, tasteful décor, and a calm, relaxed atmosphere. It's the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. We be back very soon
