"A private toll road, originally built by King Ludwig II to reach his hunting lodge, leads through a pine forest to this 90-room property with a big wellness center outside one of Germany’s top ski resorts. Old stone buildings with steep roofs and narrow windows, inspired by the English Arts and Crafts movement, rise above the spa and garden wing, a sleek wood complex with a grass roof. The interior is eccentric and modern, the lobby made vibrant with bright-green painted chairs and funky patterned wallpaper that acts as a fresh backdrop to the traditional wooden reception desks. Another room by the bar has white papier-mâché chandeliers, and a cozy sitting room is lit by a small galaxy of floating lanterns."

Amazing place to have break to relax. It is a really remote location surrounded by an impressive mountain panorama. The good thing is that the hotel doesn’t make you miss anything. Great food always with vegetarian options. Nice pool and an activity program that helps to disconnect from your day to day job. Perfect place for a short break … we went their with our dog and the hotel did everything to welcome also this little fellow … perfect terrain for hiking also with the dog ..

This place is a dream. Our room was in the Mary Portman house, it was spacious, spotless clean and beautiful. We were lucky with the weather, we had a lot of snow, which made the whole area like a picture perfect Christmas movie scene. We spent 3 refreshing nights there. Food and cakes are delicious. Wellness area amazing. Outside pools in a beautiful garden with mountain views. Saunas all with breath taking views to the pine trees and mountains. Lots of rooms to rest afterwards, the beds are very comfy there, too. Just amazing. Service was very polite, friendly and helpful. Also, we were there on Nikolaus day, and we got some Nikolaus chocolate from the hotel, which was a very sweet gesture. There's a lot of things to do there, outside activities (hike, snow shoeing, etc), inside facilities (gym, game room, library, darts room, etc) Go, if you have a chance, very very recommended, we loved it there. 😍 Thanks for hosting us!!

Amazing experience! We stayed 2 nights in the treehouse which is secluded and gorgeous! The rest of the hotel and rooms are beautiful too. The food is fantastic, the staff are excellent, can't do enough for you. Loads of activities available at the hotel and surrounding area.

I take out one star for one important reason. This place is rated as 5 stars and I don't feel it is. Is a really nice place but you don't feel luxury at all. Is just nice and cozy, nothing else.||Besides that, I really love spending there two nights. The spa area, pool, sauna, relaxing rooms are very comfortable to spent all day!||The food is average. For my taste every dish I tried was or too salty or too sweet. Food is a great area of opportunity for this hotel. ||The gym is ok. Is not a complete gym but for a fast workout it's ok.||The rooms in Mary P House are nice. I didn't like the lighting. The light was too white. Would be much better if they use yellowish (warmer) light. Yellow light is the key to coziness.||The views (landscape) are amazing.

On a roadtrip we just spent one night at the hotel. A double room at the mary porter house with nice english flair. Great dinner, awesome breakfast, and a great selection of cakes for the afternoon. The possibility to stay the whole day after checking out until 6pm-using pool all indoor/outdoor facilities and a light lunch free of charges is very special! |A place we definitelly recommend!!

A German friend arranged my stay here and I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Although they cater to the mostly German and European clientele, they made this female American solo traveler feel so welcomed. From having their yoga instructor Brigit give bilingual classes to translating the menu in English so I can have the full experience, I am so grateful for my time here. There are so many things I have to mention that this hotel got right.||First, the location. I literally had the postcard perfect view of the Bavarian Alps…from my bedroom window! Breathtaking isn’t even enough to describe the beauty of this place. It is simply impossible to not be at awe at the nature that surrounds you.||Second, the design of the hotel itself. Think moody interiors with impeccable lighting and perfectly furnished lounge spaces that are welcoming yet private at the same time. Kudos to the interior decorator because this place is Instagram heaven. The pools and sauna are so relaxing…but who has time for a soak when all I want to do is explore the great outdoors? And did I mention the VIEW from my room? ||Third, the professionalism of the staff who are very responsive. They have a free transfer service to the Klais train station (a bit of a disaster at the moment because the train service is disrupted by a railway accident early this year). Despite my 40 min delay navigating the German bus system from Murnau, the driver waited for me at the train station which was a huge relief.||Fourth, the food. Breakfast and lunch are more casual affairs, but between 2-5 pm, you can have all the cake and other baked goodies you want by the poolside bistro. Don’t eat too much cake, though, because there’s a 5-course dinner every night waiting at your own private table. Just. WOW.||For the price, Das Kranzbach is a great value considering that almost everything is included. I will stay here again in a heartbeat.

As always it is a delight staying at Das Kranzbach. It’s delightful from check in to check out. Everyone at the hotel is fantastic. Ms. Osbourne always made sure we had everything. Hike, swim, smell the herb garden and drink the fresh tea in the morning. You’ll love it!

If there is one criticism that I have for this place is that there is too much food (lol). Waw. What an amazing experience, starting from how friendly everyone is, to how incredible the facility is, the spa, the rooms, the views, the walking trails, the game rooms, the salad bar, the dinner options, and did I already mention how friendly the staff was? Certainly will come back often.

Yelp
From the reviews here you can see that this is hotel frequented predominantly by Germans tourist. However, while I don't speak much Germany, I was made to feel comfortable. The service, while rather typically Bavarian stiff, was excellent. I stayed in the new wing where the rooms are more than adequate in size. We had a ground-level room where there was a small porch which led out onto the lawn. This overlooked beautiful woods and the Alps. The views from this property are absolutely stunning. The bathroom had both shower and tub with private and separate toilet area. Bathroom was quite large with heated floor. As is the case with many European hotels the hallways leading to the rooms are a little bit stark and dark. In defense of this practice it is energy-efficient. The main attraction of this hotel is the spa area which is expansive and beautiful. The spa is focused on relaxation with multiple pools of varying temperature and multiple sauna areas, both steam and dry. Numerous spa treatments are available including various forms of massage. However, the deep tissue massage I had was only fair to good. Check in advance as some of the spa treatment selections were not available but listed. There is a large restaurant where breakfast lunch and dinner is served. The service as noted above is excellent. The food was excellent with a focus on more health items including gluten-free choices, not typical in this area of Germany. Also included with your room rate an afternoon juice bar area. WiFi was included with room rate and was robust as far as band width. This is probably related to recent infrastructure upgrades in anticipation of G8 meeting scheduled at the hotel next year. While not extremely expensive in the summer months I cannot comment what this hotel would charge in the winter time. I do suspect that the rates are much higher as this hotel would be an absolutely perfect base for skiing the multiple Alpine resorts in this area. I highly recommend this hotel and plan to return.
