"Much to the delight of his diners, Andreas Hillejan, originally from the Lower Rhine, moved to Upper Bavaria some years ago. Here in the beautiful village of Mittenwald, at the foot of the Karwendel Mountains, he serves up his own refined take on traditional pub food, resulting in some really crowd-pleasing dishes. Take a seat in the pleasingly informal, simple space and opt for one of the two set menus, "Wirtshaus mal anders" (also available in a vegetarian version) and "Heimat". Alternatively, an appealing selection of classics such as fish soup or Wiener schnitzel can be ordered à la carte. Before or after your meal, you might like to take a walk through the colourfully painted houses of this pretty historical town, which is renowned for its violin makers and climatic health resort – you won't have far to go, as the restaurant is very close to the pedestrian area." - Michelin Inspector

We were welcomed by the wonderful host as well as the chef. The aperitif was excellent as well as the alcohol free option. The food ! Omg the food outstanding quality, impeccable presentation. The dishes had the best balance I’ve tasted in years. Perfectly seasoned and each element on every dish was there to blend together into a wonderful oral symphony. The service throughout was attentive yet not overbearing. After an 8hour drive from Berlin it was the so refreshing to be taken so well care of. Congratulations to the Chef. So kind and so humble. Congratulations to everyone working there. And a shoutout to the guy who cleaned the miniature radishes that came with the bread. Thank you Nancy and Andreas for taking care of us.

Cosy atmosphere, they are able to prepare many dishes in gluten free variant as well. The food is complex and delicious. We enjoyed their friendly service too. Thank you 😊

A really excellent choice to have dinner. The place felt so warm and the staff met great standards of service and hospitality. The food was literally awesome. Each and every dish had something special. Great job chef Andreas. We'll be very glad to be back again.

They got one Michelin star for the kitchen and it is a very good kitchen indeed. Simple and delicious food, very German but at the same time very light, exquisite, and tastefully served. The place itself is not very pretentious too, you can waltz in in your jeans and nobody would mind it.

Tucked away in an unassuming small town in Bavaria, this incredible restaurant finally earned its deserved Michelin star, and the entire experience backs it up. We had a full tasting with a requested wine-pairing for each course (7 glasses total), and it was 100 Euro per person in total. Highly recommended, a gem in Bavarian country. If you find yourself in Mittenwald, this is the place to treat yourself.
