22 Affordable New Orleans Restaurants That Won’t Break the Bank

"Dat Dog has multiple locations serving its “haute dogs.” It’s not just beef franks here — they offer vegan dogs, crawfish sausages, smoked bratwurst, alligator sausage, and more. There are over 30 toppings to choose from — at no extra charge. Dogs start at $8.95, but they’re only $5 at happy hour, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the week." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

Where To Eat New Orleans’ Best Hot Dogs

"The original location, on Freret kicked off the city’s craze for hot dogs, sausages, and whatever toppings could fit on a bun. Since the early days of this hot dog hot spot, Dat Dog has announced plans to expand into Baton Rouge and Houston (25 locations expected to open here in the next few years). If you can’t get to the Freret location, check the website for other locations on Magazine, Frenchman, and Lakeside Mall. And do get the crawfish étouffée dog with crawfish sausage, étouffée, sour cream, onions, tomato, Creole mustard." - Stephanie Carter, Gwendolyn Knapp

Sausage-Obsessed Chain Dat Dog Chooses First Houston Location - Eater Houston

"After announcing its Houston arrival back in April of last year, New Orleans-based hot dog chain Dat Dog has chosen its first Space City location. The chain will bring its sriracha-smothered dogs to a location near Rice University, setting up shop at the corner of Times Boulevard and Morningside Drive. The shop will occupy 2,900 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, including seating for “between 50 and 60” diners in the dining room and “20 or 30” seats on the patio. “Dat Dog is different,” Greg Hamer, CEO of franchise operator B&G Food Enterprises in a statement. “It’s a fresh concept, and we’re very excited to bring a little bit of offbeat New Orleans to Rice University.” Construction on Dat Dog’s first Houston location is expected to begin soon, and the restaurant should open sometime around the end of the summer, when Rice students head back to class for the 2018-2019 school year. Stay tuned for an official opening date." - Amy McCarthy

This was a really fun place to eat at! The Flying Pig was the perfect balance of cheese, sausage, bacon and onion! The flavors were simply amazing. My wife got the Mediterranean Salad with Alligator Sausage and loved it. Friendly staff! If you’re not familiar with the area, there’s not a dedicated parking lot so be ready to find parking, but it’s worth it!

Google
We went to Dat Dog recently as a large group to work on a group project. It was the perfect spot for that! Their outdoor area is lovely. There are a million different combinations you can make to build your perfect hotdog, and the fries are just perfect. Would highly recommend as a quick lunch or a group hangout!

Google
Family friendly, classical NOLA spot. With lots of room inside and out, decent cocktails and good food that won't break the bank. We got the sea dog & the flying pig. My husband loved the sea dog & I reccomend subbing the bbq sauce on the flying pig for thier blueberry sauce! A go to spot for quick delicious eats

Google
Dat Dog delivers a fun and lively atmosphere with a wide variety of unique hot dogs on the menu. I tried the alligator hot dog and a regular one; both were good but didn't quite hit the mark of greatness. While the flavors were interesting, they lacked that special something to make them truly memorable. On the plus side, the service was efficient, with our order arriving in about 5 minutes. Overall, Dat Dog is a solid spot for a quick and enjoyable meal, though the hot dogs could use a bit more pizzazz to stand out.

Google
Dat Dog offers gourmet hot dogs and a recently expanded menu that includes burgers and salads as well. My favorite dog is probably the Guinness dog, and I love that all the toppings are complementary! This won’t be the most filling meal in the world - maybe add a side of fries if you’re super hungry.

When's a good time to have a hotdog for dinner? When it's Monday and the work week has already been so stressful you can't even think about cooking. I landed at Dat Dog on a Monday evening in September because I wanted to eat outside and they have a really large yard for outdoor diners. As the weather has become less insufferable, I've been looking for patio dining. Plus, the inside dining area of this place is a downer so that made the decision easier. I chose the first thing on the menu, Jimmy's Chicago 'Dog. I've only ever had a Chicago hotdog at O'hare and Sonic, so this one exceeded my expectations. Frankly, I loved it. My food partner got the Bacon Werewolf and she said it was very, very good because bacon.

Google
I ordered the Alligator Dog and it was definitely the best “hot dog” I’ve ever had. I am yet to try the rest of the menu, and the fries are perfectly crunchy and well seasoned enough that I didn’t use any kind of dip for the fries if that makes my statement for the fries any better. The atmosphere there is a bit on the louder side(alternative music half the time) but comfortable enough to sit and enjoy the food, if you don’t like slightly loud, there is outdoor dining, they also bring the food to you. There’s also a bar inside that I haven’t ordered anything from yet. The people there are very kind and helpful, definitely going to visit this place again.

Google
Hot Dogs reimagined. If you love having options, then this is the place for you. Don’t eat beef or pork (like me)? No problem! They have chicken, vegan and pescatarian options as well. Best of all, you don’t miss out on flavors with the “alternatives”. My brother is a pretty big meat eater. He tried my vegan plate and really liked it. Don’t want a hot dog? No problem! They have burgers and fries and beers. We will def be bringing family members here whenever they come to visit. This particular location is great if you want to avoid the more populated French Quarter and Magazine locations. Street parking is pretty easy to find (we went on a Sunday afternoon). There’s both indoor and outdoor dining options.

Yelp
If you are a vegetarian in New Orleans, this should probably be up high on your list of places to try. If you're like me then you probably aren't used to having so many options at a restaurant or the vegetarian version not being equitable to the omni one. However, Dat Dog is incredible! You have options of three vegetarian sausages and countless combinations of toppings for both the dogs and the fries. I've never had a bad experience with Dat Dog and the staff at Freret are definitely the friendliest of all locations! This place is very casual so coming with friends is a must.

Yelp
I'm lucky enough to live a few streets down from here. It's a great place to hang out with friends, especially in October when the weather is good. This is one of the best patio hangout places. It reminds me of South Main in Fort Worth. I get Jimmy's Chicago Dog because it is the best Dog, hands down. However, nothing beats the $5 Coney Island dog for Happy Hour.

Yelp
We had an amazing lunch at Dat Dog!! Aristotle did a great job at the grill. The chicken sandwiches and tater tots were awesome! Service was outstanding and very personable! We will definitely be back! Great job!

Yelp
Finally was able to get into Dat Dog after attempting to make it happen for the last two trips down to New Orleans. I basically built my page early on just doing hot dog reviews so this one made too much sense to check out. I decided to check out the Rougarou and Chas got the Bacon Werewolf. We also each grabbed a frozen berry type margarita. The girl at the counter was friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the open seating arrangement with coverage but the no walls to allow for airflow. Decorations were bright and fun and they were playing music like Alkaline Trio and other bands like that which I love, so that was a bonus as well. The Frozen margarita beverage was delicious but I don't think I could handle the sweetness of more than one of them. Good berry flavor and you could definitely still tell there was the lime flavor of a margarita to this as well. The flavor of tequila was masked by the sweetness, which I actually didn't love but I'm sure most people would. I love tequila and like to taste it in my drinks. The Rougarou is an Alligator sausage with grilled onion, Bacon, tomato, Jalapeno, Creole mustard, and BBQ sauce. There was a tiny bit of spiciness from the jalapeno and I'm guessing the sausage had a little spice to it as well. Nothing overbearing at all, just stating it for people who don't like ANY spice. This felt like it may have ended up being too much going on at once to enjoy it, but it was quite good. The flavors played off each other well and I enjoyed this a lot. I can't really speak to the Bacon Werewolf but I did try the bratwurst from it by itself and it had good flavor. I would love to come back and try some more of the signature dogs and maybe build one of my own. Dat Dog in New Orleans, LA - Didn't Suck! Yelp
Came here to New Orleans to visit my friend and he took me here. OMG it did not disappoint. We came to this location of Dat Dog since it was pouring and this location has the most indoor/covered seating. The entire restaurant is super cute and colorful and there's hot dog themed decorations everywhere. You order at the counter and soon after, you're greeted with your gourmet hot dog at your table. I got the Rougaroo, which my friend had tried before and recommended. It was AMAZING, the alligator sausage had the snap that you need when you bite into a hot dog and the toppings made it that much better. He got the Irish Channel dog and he said it was really good. We also got the Fries WTF, which are kinda like nachos if you replaced the chips with fries. It sounds weird to put guac and sour cream on fries but they were amazing, a must-try. Dat Dog is so good, we joked about coming back here the next day for dinner. Well, my friend was joking but I was entirely serious. This place is amazing!

Yelp
Came here for a Tulane football watch party during happy hour. The drink menu on the board did not match what was being served -- i.e. the well brands were different. That put me in a bad mood. Then, service varied from extremely poor to good. The hot dogs, as always were excellent. The cheese fries did not have nearly enough cheese for NOLA cheese fries. No light beer on draft and the bottles were $4.95 each. The next time I want a gourmet dog, I will be back as the dogs are easily the best in NOLA. However, not for anything else. Sorry, Dat Dog. I want to love you, but service needs to improve and you need a much better happy hour.

Yelp
Dat Dog is one of my fav spots to visit in New Orleans. They have 3 locations (Magazine, Frenchman, and Freret) and the Magazine st. location is my favorite. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is cooked to order and fresh. During football season this place is normally packed with folks watching the game(s) and having a good time. I highly recommend a build-your-own dog with whatever you like on it and a side of cheddar-bacon-ranch tots (or fries, whichever your like). The cheddar-bacon-ranch tots (or fries) can be a little dry in the middle so, pro tip, when you order ask them to layer the ranch. That'll solve that problem! Enjoy your dog! Oh, and they are super pet friendly if you stop in while walking your dog!

Yelp
DL;DR: Chill staff, good eats, and fun environment makes this a must visit for visitors and residents alike. $10 for a dog + whatever for fries and a drink might make you second guess, but do it at least once. You're welcome. You found my favorite to go to and most frequented. Congrats. It's a bit more quiet here and the neighborhood ambiance is nice. Grab a dog and meet me here. I'll pet it and it will have a spot for water. I am a repeat offender at Dat Dog and have found that it is a visitor (tourist) hit when family and friends come in. You might find price tag shock when you arrive, at about 9-10ish dollars for a single dog, but 1 generally fills you up when done right. The topics are all you can get so make a list and check it twice before hitting the POS. Shoot, it might help to have a note pad on the way to the register. The fries are tasty enough to get again (I like crispy on the outside). The people are 95% of the time super chill and willing to work with you (like Hawaiian-shirt wearers would be, and they will likely be wearing one for outfit). The wall-art is semi-adult humor and mostly geeky (think Star Wars Geek). There are always bars and hand-made mocktails available. Expect the bread to be buttery-crisp and relatively sweet (like Hawaiian sweet roll sweet). There is almost always outside seating (on Frenchman, only a balcony), and the aesthetic keeps you looking around (again, expect some meat-related light adult humor).

Yelp
We had lunch here and it was great spot. I had the burger dog with chili, onions, peppers, and slaw. Very good. There is a very cool area and bar to sit at inside and also a great patio area. It was a quick counter service restaurant. Definitely a good spot if you're craving a hot dog.

Yelp
Used to love this spot-very familiar with locations and concept of how to order. I came with my 4 year old and the woman at counter was just mean, rude, and unhelpful. Nobody was waiting to order at the time. My daughter's chicken tenders were great for her, but my vienna hot dog was inedible and just covered in sauce after I asked them not to. I wont be back. Beautiful patio, thats why we came.

Yelp
Delicious hot dogs (with nice variants like chicken, cod, or alligator), nice service, and good ambiance. It is hard to ask for more. We got the cod today and it was delicious. The fries were super crispy and well seasoned.

Yelp
I went with the Rougarou Dog, aka the alligator sausage with all the fixings. I think I made the right choice. Ten bucks ain't cheap for a hot dog but I'd say I got my money's worth. It was pretty deluxe and a good size. The alligator worked well with the jalapeño and sauces. We also got the tater tots with melted cheese, they disappeared quick. The restaurant itself has good energy too. A smaller area inside, with lots of outdoor seating. It was a cold evening, but the outdoor seating was a bit warmer, even though I didn't notice visible heaters. Would recommend coming here if you're hungry for a small meal or big snack.

Brenda K.

Yelp
One of my favorite stops when I visit New Orleans. I love a good hot dog and Dat Dog has some of the most unusual "dogs' around. From crawfish, alligator, bratwurst, duck and beef - anyone craving a dog will find something they like here. They even offer some veggie dog options, I tried one this time but have to admit I'm a meat eater and the veggie dog texture was just off for me. My favorite dog to get is their specialty duck dog. It comes with blackberry jam which compliments the duck dog meat very well, mustard in barbecue sauce. I sometimes opt without the barbecue sauce but that's just me. If you haven't tried Dat dog yet, highly recommend you stop by if you're in the area of one of their locations in New Orleans and give them a try.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the place is cute. I went on a rainy day, and although everything uncovered was obviously wet, the majority of this place is indoors or covered- which meant ample seating. The bright colors and unique illustrations give this place a quirky and eclectic vibe, which I enjoyed. I ordered a bratwurst and added bacon and chipotle Mayo. I actually didn't plan on ordering that but while I was at the cashier, I did feel rushed while ordering so I just chose whatever. I asked them a few questions regarding the crawfish sausage and a few toppings, but the short snappy responses made me a little uncomfortable. No one was in line and the restaurant didn't have that many guests so the interaction caught me off guard. Nonetheless, the bratwurst combination I ordered was sooooo good; it was juicy and packed with flavor. In addition, the loaded fries we ordered were just as tasty. The jalapeños gave it a little kick, but not too much. Overall, this place is good and the hot dogs are filling. I think this is cool place to hang out with friends too. They are strict with seeing vaccination cards or negative covid tests, so make sure to bring yours! I'd recommend this place, I would just suggest knowing what you want before coming.

Yelp
Put A Smile On Your Face! Dat's da motto of Dat Dog...and it is very accurate. I visited here August 16th, 2021 with my daughter (she's a student at Loyno) and my wife. We all loved it! The outdoor beer garden is cheerful and inviting. As the name suggests this place is all about hot dogs. They also offer burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc.; but the hot dog is the main attraction. They feature Vienna Beef hot dogs which is a Chicago staple (and what I grew-up on). But I wanted a local touch, so I ordered the Crawfish Étouffée Dog: (Crawfish sausage, homemade crawfish etouffee, sour cream, onions, tomatoes, and Creole mustard). It was incredible! My wife and daughter both went with more traditional hot dogs, and were as pleased as I was. We all agreed the buns were outstanding. We also enjoyed a side of delicious cheese fries. I highly recommend Dat Dog!
google avatar

Sanchita G.

Yelp
I can't eat pork or beef for religious reasons so having hot dog place that accomodates my dietary preferences is amazing! There are so many topics here you can choose from for the hot dogs. The fries especially with cheese are really good. However, again, if calories were not a thing I would indulge here more!

Yelp
Been coming here for a long time. This visit was nothing like my previous visits. I placed my order and found my seat. Finding a seat took about 15 mins. Every table was either dirty or SUPER STICKY. Me and my buddy settled on placing napkins on our table so we didn't get stuck. My order came out a couple mins after finding out seat. My friends order took over 20 mins. We started to wonder where it was and when we asked they said they misplaced the ticket and we had to wait another 15 mins for our order. We ate and our food was below average. Upon leaving we cleaned up our table and we had a hard time picking up the napkins we laid out because they were sticking to the table. Overall dat dog is pretty good as long as it's not this location. I posted pictures of our food and it does look good, but when you wait so long like we did the food gets cold and doesn't taste as good as it looks.

Yelp
Always my go to for a quick bite and fast service. The staff is always fun and friendly.

Yelp
These hot dogs are famous in Nola for a reason. The combination and variety of hot dogs is insane. You will need to look the menu over before coming, but even still need a minute before ordering. I love their signature dogs and also the option to make my own with endless toppings. They are pretty filling if you order a side separately, but when I'm hungry I can take on two. They are great to share and delicious when paired with a beer. We got a variety of dogs to try as well as loaded tots and loaded fries. This is my second time ordering the chili cheese fries and I started remembering why I wasn't the biggest fan. I feel like something is missing but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe if the cheese was nacho cheese, idk. Anyway, I love that you can bring family, friends, or coworkers here. It is a picture-worthy place that created the friendliest and most welcoming atmosphere. The outside seating is the most popular when the weather is right. And they can open the windows to building to really let the fresh air in. It's decorated like cool and vintage garage or gas station. If you read their history you will understand why. But also the service at the register is patient and kind. Very helpful with the menu. The only downside that kind of put a damper on my night was the service for the food. She made a remark to my guests and made me feel uncomfortable and upset. It was their first time visiting here, but not mines. They ordered their food and realized no mayo was on the tables or brought out. They asked the waiter the first time if they could go inside and get it from the condiment station. She said no and said she would have to get it from the kitchen herself. Fine, no problem. But the second time they forgot to order the mayo with the dog, we had to asked the second time if she could grab some mayo. Maybe she was busy, maybe annoyed, but she responded (along the lines of) " You know next time you could just order it with your food, and then you don't have to wait for me to go back into the kitchen." It was the tone of it all. When I go back I will make sure I do not get service from her. I don't know her name but there aren't many women that work there so I'm sure she will stand out. I'm sorry if you were having a bad night, but unfortunately you have spread your rudeness to a person who takes hospitality and service very much to heart. -for reference, I have waited tables and served in the F&B industry over 6 years. It was ny first job. So I can tell when someone is giving good service, being rude, or a bad server in general. But I won't say the service was completely bad, just needs some attitude improvement.

Yelp
Dat dog allows you to customize your hot dog any way you want it! Definitely try the duck sausage with blackberry sauce! Its a sweet and savory combination that you can't get anywhere else. If you aren't in the adventurous mood, they also have classic all-beef hot dogs! The staff here is super helpful and the food comes out pretty fast. They also have a pretty great selection of local beers that rotate pretty regularly. Parking can be a little difficult in the area, however, you can usually find something on one of the sidestreets. My absolute favorite part of this location is the large amount of outdoor seating! I've never had any problems finding a great spot to sit down and enjoy some cajun fries and cold beer. Definitely give this spot a try if you're in the area!

Yelp
I've always loved this place! I love hot dogs and the idea of a specialty hot dog is perfect! Whenever I go here, I pick the hot dog base, but then I always allow for "chefs special" and to be honest, it's NEVER failed me. We sat outside for a little while before ordering and it's a great laid back space (one of us was doing class via zoom, and there were no issues or distractions to us).

Yelp
The food was sooooo good here. Everything came out hot and fast. Got the son of a saint dog with a beef hot dog and no onions. It was still amazing! All the flavors worked so well together, definitely my favorite hot dog here. As a picky eater, I think this is a great option for those of us who like a lot of flavor and are trying new textures. And also, you can never go wrong with cheese fries. Although I do wish it were nacho cheese... still good though. We brought our dogs and they were happy with the vibes too. Will have to go back for trivia night!

Yelp
We went to Dat Dog for a quick bite to eat. Ordering our food was interesting, we stood at the order here area in front of the menu until someone told us we have to order at the bar. The hot dogs were good nothing out of this world. I was expecting a fully loaded hot dog and the toppings added were scanty. That would be my only complaint. Hubby ordered the bacon werewolf and I created my own hotdog. We also got bacon cheese fries.
google avatar

Madeline D.

Yelp
Dat diggity doggg! Dat dog has been a staple in my New Orleans cuisine since it opened its first tiny shop on Freret. I like to get the Guinness dog and load it up with everything from guacamole to the blackberry jam. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu
google avatar

Chassidy S.

Yelp
The food was pretty chill. I enjoyed it, but their portion size sucked a bit. I got like 7 tater tots for $4. The dog itself was worth it. I created my own, and it was perfect. It also took a really long time to get my food after ordering it. I don't think the other location on Magazine takes as long to serve your food. Maybe I'll just stick to the Magazine location.

Juj S.

Yelp
My togo order was really lacking. They forgot all my sauces and didn't grill the "grilled peppers" add on so there were 4 raw green pepper strips on my sausage lmao

Beth M.

Yelp
Just paid $14 for this Dat Dog at the Tulane game. The bun is hard as a rock inedible. I know the dogs can sit out but they need to figure out a way to fix it. I love Dat Dog! So disappointed!

Yelp
Newfound appreciation for Dat Dog these days as increasing numbers of friends are either vegan or vegetarian and this universal-please all diets-spot is a great choice for diverse groups! Last summer some out of town friends who were vegan, made Dat Dog their go-to after all night drinking bouts on Frenchman. Tonight, a vegetarian friend and I met up for a bite before their first ever comedy night at their Freret location. The menu has tons of options, including a broad selection of craft beers and cocktails including non alcoholic options. (#dryjanuary) Tonight, I thoroughly enjoyed their Bacon Werewolf (bratwurst, saurkraut, dill relish, tomato, onion, bacon, mustard on a super buttery soft bun.) I also had two house sodas; peach & blueberry which were exactly what I was hoping for! A win-win tonight and I plan to send more out of town guests their way!

Yelp
When you need a spot for a family meal, take them to Dat Dog and put a smile on everyone's face! The kids can enjoy a Lil Beefy while you enjoy a creative gourmet twist on a hotdog (and a Paradise park on draft ;-), let the husband be the DD and have another round). Being a midwesterner that now finds NOLA as her permanent home, I love taking the family here when I need my Chicago-style dog fix. It's my favorite item on the menu. Then add a side of cheese tots and and I'm in hot dog heaven. Pros - Chicago-style hot dog, Cold local draft beer, smiles on everyone's faces, tater tots and cheese tots - A patio for the kids to play on in lieu of a paying a babysitter for a date night Cons - The flies were out in force that night on the patio, annoying most of the tables near us (trash cans were all well covered so maybe need to try hanging ziplock bags full of water) - There was a wait for food to come out of the kitchen, but there was a decent crowd. - They have gotten rid of the octodog, a kid favorite - Being married to a NOLA local who is generally ignorant of hot dogs (and so much more, but lets stay on dat dog for now . . .), much less the blissfulness of the Chicago-style hot-dog, how many times do I have to explain Chicago style to him? - A 2 year old that needed to go potty three times - at least the ignorant husband came in handy then, but how can you bring a kid back to the table from the bathroom, that dirty? Seriously

Yelp
dat dog has been on the top of my list since I moved here a few weeks ago. I wanted to love it. Unfortunately I did not. We ordered 2 dogs for dine in and one to go for a friend a block away. The guy at the counter recommended I wait because the go order was a Chicago dog which has a lot of wet items on it and it could get soggy quickly. I asked, but how long does it take to make? As we were trying to make 7pm trivia at Gasa Gasa. He said 10-12 minutes. At 6:40 I go and order the Chicago dog and cheese fries. I still don't have my crawfish etouffee dog at this point either. Idk how long it takes normally but it was 20 minutes for the crawfish dog. My friend was already finished eating her Chili cheese dog by the time my crawfish etouffee dog came out. They were out of the creole mustard so they recommended the Cajun Mayo? It was good. But there was no crawfish etouffee. It was soggy though. The bread (great bread) was soggy from the sour cream and Mayo, but there was no etouffee. I was sad. I was also starving and the flavor profile was good so I didn't even notice there wasn't any etouffee until I was halfway done. At that point I just kept going. It was still good, just didn't have everything I ordered on it and it was falling apart soggy. I would have loved a bite of a MUDBUG! Then we finished and waited. And waited. And waited. It was almost 40 minutes from ordering to actually get the Chicago dog and cheese tots. We booked it over to gasa gasa since we were now late as heck. My friend stated the Chicago dog was super awesome and not soggy at all. However the cheese tots were old and cold and tasted like oil and not much else.. like the made the tots first then had them sitting around while the dog cooked. Service was good. I like the outdoor seating too. I will probably not come back though. Food was inconsistent and timing was poor. Lots of good food choices in Nola to try...

Yelp
I have seen and been around Dat Dog but never tried their food - but recently i noticed they have some vegan and veggie options so decided to try them it was very easy to order and customize my vegan dog online through the website i ordered the vegan bratwurst and the toppings were plentiful and free - the flavor of the vegan dog was really good and the bread type complimented it very well we also ordered cheese fries which were good but would've been better if served hot overall, a good and tasty meal

Yelp
This was probably our favorite stop on the trip! We almost didn't go (so little time, so much to eat) but we are so happy we did. Got the Alligator special and the Crawfish special. SO GOOD!

Dat Freakkin' Dog. I love you. You'll forever have a place in my heart and I can't get enough of you. From your bomb HH with $5 signature dogs and your beer specials to the wide variety of fries you carry. From alligator to brats, even vegetarian and classic dogs. You have something for everyone. From my last trip I overheard y'all offering someone to have their dog served on a bed of lettuce because they didn't want any bread. Personally prefer carbs myself but it's great you give alternatives for other folks. Recently had an event here and the staff was so easy to work with. Ended up utilizing tickets and the team handled it with ease. Dat Dog has a few locations throughout but I really do enjoy this spot. The outdoor patio with covered options is always nice. The music is pretty uplifting too. If you're not ordering food at all you can go to the bar instead of the register and order from there! I'll be back most likely in a week or two knowing myself. PS- grab the chili cheese fries. You can thank me later...

Yelp
My favorite Chili Dog in NOLA!! It is always soo good every time I come, and never ceases to satisfy my chili dog craving. They have a lot of fun options, but I always build my own with Chili and Raw Onions. The chili is really good, and they have the best buns!! Not to mention their tots are always super crispy and yum!! Thanks Dat Dog!!

Yelp
Our second venture out since Covid restrictions were lifted. Taking the pups to get a dog. We love the variety and many choices of toppings. The patio was open and social distancing was in order. We ordered and sat down. Our beer order got lost in the process. So when our food came out we had to ask for our beer. The staff was very apologetic. And promptly got us nice cold beer to have with our dogs. In their defense they were slammed with take out orders. The folks who were working were hustling. Tables were fill as soon as possible. It felt good to be out and about have some semblance of normal. What ever that is these days. Thank you Dat Dog for doing what you do.

Yelp
This is the second time in a row we have had the worst customer service at this establishment. The first time, they forgot our order for an hour and 25 minutes, yelled at us when we inquired about it, came out to tell us we ordered incorrectly, then got the order wrong when it eventually did get completed. This time, they made the two little boys I was with-- age 7 and 6 -- outwardly cry, then expressed zero empathy or regret. I don't know if they're trying to become a new Dicks Last Resort, but everything about every interaction I have had has been so unbelievably rude and horrible, it is a wonder they are still in business. I have loved Dat Dog since it first opened in the tiny shop many years ago, and hope they turn things around.

Yelp
It is a complete food experience and not just hotdogs. You must experience it to believe me. That have burgers, chicken sandwich sausages brats and gourmet hotdogs. In addition to amazing local brews. Their locations are inviting and has cool vibes. Enjoy and experience Datdog like you will never know.

Yelp
Dang dog good! As we are thinking what are some out door friendly locations offering safe space and practice and DARN GOOD FOOD? Visiting NOLA in times of a pandemic you got to think what's good? After a quick refresher of what can we try my friend mentions that the local flavors are a variety but hot dogs- what do you think? And I am always down for a creative spin to a dog; so we came on the first full Sunny day and sat outside enjoying local Paradise Park brew and a genius special and the R dog. (Can't remember how to spell it but it's alligator sausage) both were DAMN delicious. Service at the counter was speedy and very friendly, they actually picked the dogs for our first time to try. Seasoned tots are crisp and warm to perfection and the day together was perfect. Stop on by, bring your furry friends, your drinking friends, the kids... whoever wants a Damn great hotdog will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I like hot dogs and my favorite place to get a dog in the city is Dat Dog. I like the Freret location slightly. Food to me at the Magazine shop and Freret is identical. Both have decent indoor and outdoor seating. It's the parking. I know that's sad but parking is slightly easier around Freret Dat Dog. So I like the Chi town dog best. I have tried many others, but I usually buy two. One tried and true Chi town and one rando. Admittingly, I have eaten some subpar dogs at Dat Dog. A few times, I have landed on stale bread which is the death blow for a good hot dog. But that's the exception. Recently, I impulse purchased a chocolate shake at the counter. It was awesome. Try it. I have repeated Dat Dog multiple times, and I plan to continue.

Yelp
Nice spot with great food, great staff, and outdoor seating. Definitely would recommend.

Yelp
Great food, a bit out of the main road but easily can find. I would give 5 stars but price was extreme, I thought. Can't see myself visiting often when Costco sells hotdogs at 1/10th the cost.

Yelp
Large outdoor seating area. Large variety of options to choose from. Would recommend trying whatever they have on special that day. Someone in our party did so, and it was the most delicious thing that arrived at our table. We brought our dogs. They were not allowed inside the actual restaurant but we could tie the up on the post in the outdoor eating area and go in to order. The man at the register was not as friendly and happy as I had hoped but he got the order done quickly and efficiently. They brought the food out fairly quickly - so I was satisfied. I feel it might be a bit pricey for a hotdog but they were full of flavor and worth a try. Always heard amazing things about them.

Yelp
I have NEVER expected to crave a hot dog in my life. I haven't eaten meat in 32 years, so hot dogs are not something that I seek. When my co-workers wanted to come here for HH, I figured that I would simply get fries and a soda. Little did I know, this cool little place had an apple, sage dog. Yall, this dog was on a soft, vegan bun, and the dog was smoked perfectly. My pregnant self had two, and I was in food heaven. Although my food was awesome, I had to deduct a star because of the setup. There was one cashier and one person serving the drinks. There was a long line damn near out the door, so to get another beer and/or cocktail, my co-workers had to stand in line again. The HH experience really sucked. It seems like a really great lunch idea, but definitely not recommending coming to get multiple drinks for HH.

Yelp
This place was on our list of places to try so we hit them up after a short day trip outside of Nola. I had the plain, beef hotdog and friends had some fries and the hamburger something or other?!? All the food came out quickly and was pretty good. The person taking our order could've been more helpful seeing how we were obviously tourists but it didn't take away from the experience. It's a nice quirky place which reminded us all of the Austin vibes.

Yelp
Don't get between Dat Girl and Dat Dog. Because Dat Dog is just too dang good. My favorite place to grab a dog in the city. The soft, buttery Hawaiian buns are unlike any I've ever witnessed. The selection of "dogs", or sausages, is vast, they even have something for the die-hard vegan. The tots are super crispy as are the french fries, which are seasoned to perfection. There are also dozens of toppings to build your best dog. Where else can you get a hot dog with crawfish etouffee on top? Many complain about the pricing, but I feel its worth it for the quality. The dogs usually run about $8-9. If you do happen to be penny pinchin', head in for happy hour Mon-Fri from 4-7pm. Here they have $3 well drinks, $1 off draft beers and a selection of $5 hot dogs on the menu. Super relaxed and laid back spot. Perfect for after work happy hours, a cool meet up with friends or even when you wanna chill and chow down on a dog by yourself. The outside seating is cute (if it isn't a smoldering New Orleans heatwave sorta day.) But they also keep fans outside and cool cool AC inside, so you should be good to go. Now go get a dawg! P.S., yesterday they had a Dog Design Competition on National Hot Dog Day for a great cause as they are partnered with Son of a Saint, who provides mentorship, education, recreation, camaraderie, cultural enrichment and emotional support to young men growing up without a father. We stan good dogs for a good cause!

Yelp
The queer representation at this place is reason enough to try it out. They feature vegan and vegetarian options as well as some of the best dogs and sausages you'll find!

Yelp
Terrible food. I have been a patron since they opened up years ago in Feret and today was the worst food I have ever had. The menu has changed and is confusing as heck...they now make burgers and chicken fingers...they should just keep it simple. HOTDOGS and FRIES. I ordered a Guinness Dog with mustard, Kraut, ketchup and there was barely any kraut. I had to ask for additional kraut which I have never had to do before. The dog was burnt and wrinkled- not plump and juicy. The fries were okay...kinda stale. Worst experience ever. Get there by 7 cause the line was out the door with a whole bunch of freshman college kids. My suggestion, go back to just selling hot dogs.

Yelp
A dog done right! There are many hotdogs, kielbasas, and sausages to chose from at this little hole in the wall local eatery. I had the crawfish dog which was so delicious. Where else can you get a crawfish or alligator dog or a beer kielbasa? The alcoholic drinks were great too!
